Came here with my big Vietnamese extended family for a group lunch. Seating was plenty and the staff was pretty attentive. We ordered a variety of dishes to try which all leveled to the OK rating from all of us with some pieces being hits and misses in each dish. We started with the appetizer combo which had a few banh beo, a banh it ram and of banh beo, quai vac, and it ram. The fish sauce wasn't as fragrant and the fried shallots were wilted. I thought the noodle part themselves weren't as firm and bouncy. I also tried two noodle dishes, one dry and one soup based. The mi quang (dry) lhad great presentation but the crispy wafers on top were unfortunately not crispy and was surprised to see romaine lettuce. Solid option amongst so many options. They have just about all the "hue" dishes here. We tried many dishes. Nothing outstanding. We also tried the bun nem lui but the nem is quite dry. The place is spacious and appears to be clean. The service is OK. If you are in this particular area and like the convenience, dining here is not a bad option. We ordered three things today - kept it very simple. Egg rolls, banh beo appetizer, and the banh canh tom cua. The food was exceptional and reasonably priced. I'm not completely thrilled about some of the small things - they have banner ads on their websites if menus, so it's easy to click on them instead of their actual menu. And no ordering online, so I had to call them, and when my uncle showed up to pick up the order, they hadn't written down my name or phone number, so he had no way to reference the order and that took another confusing phone call. The noodles for our to-go order came raw - still had flour on them and stuff, so we had to boil water and cook the noodles ourselves. I guess it makes sense because those noodles won't do well to-go. I think this is the best banh beo I've ever had! The fresh shrimp topping with the soft rice cake and spicy fish sauce was delicious. We also ordered the bun bo hue which was good as well, but I wish there was more meat. They put a lot of tendon and it also came with pigs feet. The mi quang was flavorful and had a lot of shrimp. I recently came here to eat again after a long hiatus and I have to say I like their food much better now! I like how clean and beautiful the restaurant is! It stayed the same and the owner really takes care of the restaurant. I love their salt water aquarium, probably one of the main reason why I keep coming here! Their food is decent, not the best but not bad! I really like their manila clam salad and the banh canh tom cua! Banh beo was good too! Their banh bot loc is called banh quai vac here! We wanted to try something from the hue region and this was a recommended place. It was pretty packed and busy so we had high hopes. We ordered the combo of banh beo, banh it ram, and quai vac. Out of the 3 my favorite was the banh it ram. It has a nice texture and the flavor was on point. Quai vac is really good too. The banh beo was ok, it's a little too thin for my taste. I definitely like the 2 fish sauce that was provided. We also ordered the mi Quang and it was definitely a disappointment for me. There was nothing that distinguishes it from other noodle dishes and mi Quang is pretty unique. So failed for me. Another thing was that the wait time for the food was a lot longer than expected. Good thing we had banh beo combo as the appetizer and the mi Quan as the entree. We used to own a restaurant, so we tend to be very picky with our rating. My mom in law was the main chef, so, like any other typical mother in law chef of the household, she's even more picky. I was really hoping the food was as good as it was before as this place used to be the go to place for Bun Bo Hue and Banh Beo but my gosh... the only thing they have going for them now is ambience. The food was subpar and with food costs on the rise, we were hoping the quality would still be intact, but from our experience, it was just a total disappointment. To be honest, this was not our first choice, but it was the only restaurant open that had both Bun Bo Hue AND Banh Beo on a Monday. The neighboring restaurants in Westminster were closed. $50 got us the basic Bun Bo Hue and Banh Beo, if you want extra toppings, there is an upcharge which we found a bit ridiculous. The Bun Bo Hue broth was strangely sweet, meat was super dry, and other topping were weird and spongey - not at all what Bun Bo Hue should taste like. Banh Beo was nice and warm, but bland from lack of toppings. This was probably one of the most disappointing meals I've had in awhile. We definitely should have read all of the other Yelp reviews before heading here. In my opinion this is one of the few viet restaurants in OC to take people from out of town. They've been around for a longggg time. All their food is good and done right, place is clean, and old asian people love that koi pond and bridge they have inside. Starting off with their banh beo is a must. My husband was craving Vietnamese food and we haven't frequent this restaurant in four years so he suggested this place. Well guess what?!?!?!? He now knows why I've always shot the idea down when he suggested this restaurant. In the past, the quality and flavours of the food was good. I use to eat here growing up and my favorite dish was banh beo. I recently came back after couple of years, and let me tell you the banh beo was a disappointment! The restaurant is located in a little Saigon..in a big plaza with plenty of neighboring restaurants (that probably tastes better..). I went on a Sunday, it was very hard to find parking. The restaurant was half empty though. As usual this place is very cute. It has a fish tank situated in between the table which leads up to curious (loud) kids yelling back and forth "ooooh wow look at that fish!!". Not the restaurant problem, but I wished they yelled in their parents ear instead of mine . The seatings were also kinda cramp, like the table is so up close to the booster? The table was also very sticky n smells like fish sauce. I ate the banh beo and a side of special egg roll. I also got the ube coffee. Banh Beo 2/5: Absolutely disappointed. The toppings were literally just one chunk of mashed shrimps and a huge chunk of chopped scallion. The mashed shrimp also had no flavors. The fish sauce was not spicy enough and was way too sweet with almost no fish sauce flavor.. wonder how the table smelt more fishy than the sauce itself. The only reason I even gave this dish a 2 is that I like how thin the rice cake is. Special egg roll 3.5/5 The first egg roll was pretty good, but I guess my luck was real good cause every one after that was dog sht. The only thing that saved it was the salad to wrap it with. Ube coffee 4/5: Surprisingly good. Probably because it was a collaboration with an actual coffee place. The ube cream was not too sweet, but I do wish it was thicker and had a stronger ube taste. In an area filled with so much regional variety of Vietnamese cuisine, Westminster has proven itself to be the most legit "Little Saigon" in the world. One of the most well known spots has been Quan Hy, a place that showcases a number of Vietnamese classics, but more specifically that of the Central region. They truly have one of the most complete menus that I've seen just about anywhere. The restaurant is clean, spacious, and friendly for all sorts of groups. Vibrant and modern are two ways I'd describe their decor and I dig the interior koi pond. Due to their popularity, there is almost always a wait during peak hours. Thank goodness, I've managed to dine here without much hassle due to the fact they use Yelp Waitlist. On a food front, the execution is pretty close to flawless. Sure, they have some mishaps here and there, but that's more or less due to faulty service more than it is the quality of the food. Fans of banh beo, banh uot, banh it ram, my quang, or even the infamous bun bo hue etc. can all enjoy it here. The presentation is good and most items I've had here have been pretty stellar. I would recommend for all first timers: * Banh beo. Multiple trays preferred. Once you pop, you can't stop. * Xoi ga. This is one of their in-house specialties. * Banh it ram. One order since it's super filling. * My quang. It's not the same as one will find in Vietnam, but it's the pricier, more loaded OC cousin. * Goi hen. This is a party pleaser, guaranteed. * Banh Bot Loc. There usually aren't many pieces (4, 5?), but this is one of the only places that serves it. So if this place was so good, why is it not 5 stars? It really boils down to the service. I feel they've fallen a few notches with their attentiveness and overall professionalism. Multiple times we've had issues with orders not arriving, slow drink refills, and bill adjustments. After yesterday's experience I most definitely will not be coming back here. I am sure by now everyone who lives in SoCal understand that you don't come to a Vietnamese restaurant expecting good or great service-you come for the food. With that being said, neither were good today. We ordered 3 appetizers and 4 entrees. 2 entrees came out first (noodle soups), but we reminded them about the appetizers since we were surprised the main courses made its way out before any of the 3 appetizers showed up. About 10 minutes later the other 2 entrees arrived (both rice dishes). Both of the noodle soups were #17, Bun Bo Hue special which comes with a piece of shrimp patty. One of the bowls had them and the other one didn't so we called a server by to let them know and they went back to the kitchen to get us one. Didn't apologize- didn't say a word, just listened and dropped off. The veggies that accommodate the noodle soups are usually brought out on a separate plate so that you can add it in per preference and they should be room temp. They brought the veggies straight out from the fridge in a baggie which immediately turns the broth cold when you put it in. The broth itself was already not hot at all- just lukewarm. A big no no for these kind of noodle soups. We asked the server to reheat the bowls. Again, literally not a peep, just grab and drop off. By now with all the entrees out, the missing patty and cold veggies for a should-be hot soup; we were pretty annoyed. We flagged a server down and ask them to just cancel our 3 appetizers because by now everyone has started digging into their main course. You think that by asking them to cancel that they would do their due diligence and go cancel it from the order system but nope- it was only relayed to the kitchen. When we went up to pay- they charged us for the 3 cancelled items. The person at the register is a dude who we are assuming is the owner- we told him what happened and he tried to justify that it is "lunch" time which is busy and not a time where they usually serve those kinds of appetizers so the preparation for that took a lot of time and the reason why the soup and rice dishes came out first is because those are different cooks. I understand different cooking stations but don't lie about it being lunch time and you don't usually prepare it around this time and the bs about how that particular machinery needs to be warmed up first and that it would take longer than usual. We've been here before around lunch time and the appetizers always come out first fairly quickly or at least BEFORE the main course. We understand if you are busy but you need to "COMMUNICATE" with your customers. You don't leave them hanging and not let them know there will be a delay with something. That's literally all there is to it. Let the customers know in the very beginning and we'll make a decision then if we want to wait for it or not- don't go silent and leave us hanging. He was very loud and defensive trying to "explain" and justify his reasoning. Honestly, their entrees are all pretty crappy. We mainly come here for the appetizers and sometimes out of convenience, eat their mediocre entrees since we were already there. But service is never great and this was just it for me. Had the owner just STFU and apologized for lack of communication, I would have been a little more understanding but with the food mess up and that- it was the last straw. And oh, please don't put at the very bottom of your receipts "suggested" tip amounts. Let me remind you that tips are EARNED and not a given. How on earth do you start at 8% as the first tier and jump right up to 20% for the next? You're not a American food restaurant with better service- you LACK service so how on earth do you expect to be tipped for something that is not earned? Here's a tip for you, take off the suggested amount, train your workers to perform better and perhaps patrons will be more inclined to leave a monetary tip. read more

After double checking our order, she served us the wrong one and then had a horrible attitude to us about it. She started arguing that she heard something else when we clearly said what we wanted and also confirmed. With no updates and zero communication about fixing our order, she then proceeded to silently hand us a separate bowl with our correct food. After that, she literally just stopped tending to our table and avoided any contact with us. The cherry on top was that she canceled the rest of our order so two of us were just sitting there with no food for like 15 mins lol. The stick up her a** today was obviously more like a log.
