Made a trip to the Fresno area to visit my good friend, VH. Since returning to Fresno, VH often spoke of Red Apple Cafe; notably the potatoes. So, before jumping on the road back to the OC, we stopped here for breakfast... 'And happy we did! Before I continue, I have to say that VH is not the most discerning foodie. When she tells me, "This place is SOOOO good!", it's usually a flip of the coin on whether it's actually true or not. - "Was VH drunk @ the time? Did she lose her sense of taste again? Did her tongue fall off?" VH has told me several times, "This place is SOOOO good," only to have it register negative on the yelp* scale. As I glanced around the patio, there were families, friends, and possibly first time breakfast dates sharing the quaint, close quarters, patio area with us. For a moment, it reminded me of being in a local spot back in Hawai'i. Everyone simply enjoying the moment. It was nice. The service was great; friendly, quick, and answered my usual round of "fist time here" questions. - "Is the salsa made fresh, in-house?" - "What gives the hollandaise sauce in the Hot Link Benedict that orange color?" A: Yes, the salsa is made in-house and the orange hue is from a chipotle sauce added to the hollandaise. Expect to pay about $20 per person; plate & drink. For the $$, it's a good value. I've paid $20 for less quality and value. I'm getting hungry just thinking about the Red Apple Cafe. Stopped off here with the family to grab breakfast on our way home. This place has a nice corner location with a patio. We arrived placed our name group of 9 on the list. We were told it would be a 25 minute wait. Not too bad for a week end morning. We were called when our table was ready. We got seats were given menus and our drink order taken. After getting our drinks we placed our order. The place has cute decor, its clean and the food came out in a good time. Everything was good portions and looked wonderful. My husband took me to breakfast here and let me start off by saying the line was ridiculously long which I can understand to an extent but I don't understand why some people who walked in after us got sat first? He called the worker by name so it's only fair to assume they knew each other. All customers should be treated the same point blank. That's how you make others feel unappreciated. My money is as good as theirs. My waitress was Rebecca and while she took our order quick she was also quick to forget about us. My drink was empty most of the time which is the worst when you're eating! I had to ask for salsa twice before i had to flag down another worker to get some. Her name was Alexis and she apologized and got me the salsa the first time I asked. I truly was disappointed and do not recommend coming here. The price and quality is not worth the struggle. Please be more attentive and have a better serving system in place for your guests. 2/10 only because the salsa was good. read more

A great little place for breakfast. Not cheap, but really huge portions. I usually get one of the potato dishes, and that's what sets them apart. The potatoes are top-notch. It could have fed two people easily. The service has always been great too- the waitresses are really friendly. They also have good coffee. I ate lunch there once and got a burger and it was okay, but breakfast is really their wheelhouse. It is a step up from most places and definitely worth a try. read more

You know it's a good place if they are always busy. I've been here a handful of times. Literally on the corner of Herndon and Ingram. They have a great friendly staff. I would highly recommend getting there early to avoid the wait. They have inside and outside seating. When we go we would always request to get the 1st available. Most times we sit outside and during the cold season they have heaters out which is great. Today we went around 9am, party of 3 with one child. We waited about 15 minutes and was seated outside. I ordered the french toast special it came with 2 eggs, 3 french toasts, sausage and bacon and I ordered hashbrowns on the side. The portions are pretty big. However, some items can be over priced. They have a variety of selections on the menu. The food is usually good. However, my hashbrowns were a bit mushy and soggy on the inside which gave it an unpleasant texture. And my Bf had the potatoes, however it was a bit burnt and he even mentioned how he didn't really enjoy it because of the burnt taste. Overall, I still really like this place. This review is of our second visit to this place, for breakfast on a Sunday morning in January. The first time we went, with some friends, I had something called a beef enchilada omelette. It was a breakfast special, and it was just amazing! Pretty much what the title says, but eggs instead of wrapped in tortillas. Anyway, I was looking forward to that today, so I ordered the same thing. I looked and looked, and found only the tiniest sliver of beef in it. I mentioned it to the server, she said OK and left, and that was the end of it. The second negative, which I know is not a huge deal, was with my wife's order. She got the chorizo and egg breakfast, which she really liked, but they brought out the two warm tortillas just sitting on a plate, not wrapped in anything. We were seated outside, and it was very cold out, so even though the overhead heaters were keeping our bodies warm, the food was getting cold really fast, seems like it wouldn't be that hard to wrap those tortillas in a piece of foil or something. So, not sure about how many stars. I guess I would probably do four for the food, but deductions for not fixing things that should be easily fixed. Like, if the first word in the description of the item is beef, it should actually have beef in it. And, I totally understand that kitchens and servers (and yelp reviewers!) can have an off day. I'm not sure if restaurant owners read these reviews, but if they do, this should be a really easy thing to remedy in the future. We really try to support local businesses, especially restaurants, and will probably be back. But I think I would feel like "that guy "if I ask the server if the beef enchilada omelette actually has beef in it! read more

Went here the first time this morning for brunch and sure glad we did! The food were delicious and definitely worth going back to. We had the Corned Beef Hash with a side of Baby Cakes and and the Crab Cake Benedict. They definitely did not disappoint. The Service from the staff was great. Here again for our 39th wedding anniversary looking for some good eats and company. My sister was able to join us for our celebration. We arrived first thing Sunday morning at 7am. As always, service is good with courteous staff. My wife ordered from the lunch menu, a veggie sandwich with rye bread and potato salad, and my sister with an omelette, hash browns and pancakes. I chose the house special favorite, corned beef hash with poached eggs. My dish was good but have had better. Depending on what you order you can have either a good dish vs a awesome one. Solid spot for breakfast and brunch. There has been a wait each time to get in, but average per visit was roughly 15-20 minutes. If you're going by yourself, you can always snag a seat at the little bar next to the TV but that's something you have to grab on your own. The dude and I came to Red Apple Cafe on 01/26/2020 for an early breakfast. The dude and I arrived around 9:30am and luckily we arrived before 10am as it was packed! It was packed when we got there but we only had to wait for about 10 minutes. Then the rush came in after us. We were seated and our drink orders were taken. I got a Mimosa and the dude got a Rumchata Latte which he said was delicious! My Piña Colada mimosa was so yummy and pretty! Before our drinks arrived a few staff members can over several times to see if our drink order was taken and each time we said yes. We also ordered water and lemon but it never came. They have a huge menu selection of yummy items! I ended up getting an egg white omelette vegetable included and I added shrimp. Since I'm am watching my carbs I wanted to swap out the toast for fresh fruit and server said they could not do that. I got the potatoes and she said I can do 3 small pancakes inside of toast and I told her that is fine as the dude can eat the pancakes. The dude got a Chorizo omelet which he said was good. He got his order right but I never got my potatoes and instead gave me 6 small pancakes instead. I should not be too pouty but I wanted Emmy potatoes! The lettuce, tomato and pickles are fresh. The fries were on the lighter side...it could have been a little more generous comparing it to other restaurants. I missed Red Apple soooo much this past year. Pre-pandemic, I used to come here at least a couple of times a month. The service is always friendly and the food is hot, quick and filling. I ordered takeout on occasion but it's the "regular" dining experience that I missed. This past weekend it was time to venture out - my husband and I came by a little before 11am on Saturday morning. We joined the list and it seemed to be the end of the rush, a bunch of tables freed up at the same time. We were seated within about 10-15 minutes on the patio. I hadn't seen the expanded patio space - there's maybe 6-8 tables in there, well spaced and heated. It was nice to see some familiar faces. I ordered the eggs benedict and my husband got their famous corned beef hash. It came out really fast. Generous portions as always. The poached eggs are always perfect which is worth the price of admission IMO. There was plenty of hollandaise. I like that the potatoes vary in size so you get some softer and some crispier ones. They're always well-seasoned too. The corned beef hash was on point. I'm so happy they've survived thus far. Although it was busy there wasn't a long wait. I didn't get a look at the indoor seating but they did ask if we preferred inside/outside/first available (and I signed up for the latter). Everything was completely delicious. The steak was cooked perfect. The breading tasted fresh, not frozen or hard. I loved the gravy on both the biscuit and the steak. The potatoes were really good!
