Sure, you don't get the premium toppings you'd find at other poke places, but this place gives you double the fish and it's way fresher. They also have some off-menu options too, so you can make it spicy, add avocado, nix the rice, etc. Don't feel like poke? No problem. Try the bibimbap, udon soup, you name it, it will hit the spot. The concept is cute- it's Korean/Japanese food in a red bowl. Teriyaki in a bowl, Udon in a bowl, BiBimBap in a bowl, Chirashi in a bowl, Hwe Dup Bap in a bowl.. I'm sure you catch my drift. I ordered a tempura Veggie Udon which was supposed to feature a homemade broth. That being said, it wasn't very special. And there was no set Togarashi out to season it, they just sprinkle an X amount on top when you pick up the order (See the picture of the makeshift Kamaboko boat carrying the Togarashi?) Food comes out fast, probably to process the large amounts of to go orders from the lunch crowd. In 15 minutes, there was a snake trail forming between the tables of dining customers. Fast, tasty, hearty, and healthy all for $10. I can't think of another Japanese place that can satisfy those requirements. I eat here at least once a week, and typically get the Alaskan bowl. It comes with a generous portion of imitation grab and fresh salmon cubes on top of vegetables and your choice of brown or white rice. They have a ton of different options that will satisfy your whole lunch group. They have chicken katsu or teryiaki beef for people who don't like raw fish. They have veggie/tofu options for those who are vegetarian. They also have a spicy option for most of their menu items. I typically like spice but the dressing/sauce they use for the regular orders is too good to pass up. The line is typically out the door from 11:40 to 1:30 but it goes pretty fast. Faster than you'd expect, even after hearing the line goes fast. Once you order you'll have just enough time to grab utensils and a cup of water before it's ready. Pretty minimal and cramped seating inside. There is typically a table open just outside in the lobby that's much better. Tip: Pay with cash for a free bottled water. Go in after 3pm for free avocado on your bowl. Enunciate the "bowl" in Red Bowls otherwise 9/10 times people will think had red bull for lunch. read more

A year later I'm still going to this place. I love Red Bowls! There's very few restaurants that I would declare my love for but this is one of them. Since last year my order has changed slightly. The owner introduced us to the Spicy Alaskan. They mix a spicy sauce with the crab mix and salmon pieces. The spicy version is extra delicious! If you like avocado, be sure to add it. We initially wanted poke for lunch but got the best of both in the Red Salmon Spicy bowl. Heaping portion of fresh, meaty raw salmon, dressed in a light sauce, with some slightly steamed broccoli, cabbage, and carrots, and rice at the bottom. Very decent sized portion and filling. Long line out the door, but moves quickly. Easy to read menu, nice staff. This is my favorite place to get lunch downtown, you just can't go wrong. I love love Poke and I wouldn't call their fresh fish bowls Poke, it feels a lot more authentic than that. It's simple, not over sauced, and the fish for the price and quantity in the bowl is on another planet. Nothing I've seen in Seattle compares on the quality of proteins. The salmon especially is divine, I'd recommend a Radical bowl if you're just trying it out for the first time, you will not be disappointed. The lines used to be long (don't fret the lines move crazy fast), but so happy this place is still in business through Covid, and can't wait for business to pick back up again for these folks. This is my first time here. It's pretty small but the service is great. You walk in and if there's a line he asks you your order so by the time you get to the front of the line it's ready. I recommend looking at the menu and knowing what you want before you get here. They have a way of doing things and it works out great if you know what you want. My go-to order is the Spicy Alaskan($8.99) with Avocado (+$1.50). It's well-balanced in taste and nutritional value. It starts out with a red plastic bowl which resembles traditional Asian lacquerware. The bottom is padded with warm white rice and then covered with a bed of predominantly cabbage, shredded zucchini, and carrots. These vegetables are perfectly par-boiled for a satisfying texture. Then comes the mound of spicy imitation crab mix flanked by lightly marinated salmon. Snuggle in half a creamy avocado with two imitation crab sticks and you now have the perfect mix of protein, carbohydrates, fiber, and fats. Pure bliss. Got the Alaska bowl that comes with silky fresh salmon, two pieces of REAL crab, lots of imitation crab, pickled broccoli, cucumber and cabbage. The majority of the bowl underneath the seafood is vegetables with a little bit of rice at the bottom. Grabbed lunch here today. It is a super quick counter service restaurant in a small space with a few places to sit. Looks like most people take their lunch to go. I ordered #19 Spicy (Central - tuna and crab). There was quite a line out the door and wrapped around the restaurant but the line moved really fast. It did not take long to get my bowl and leave. Total time in line and waiting for my food was 10 maybe 15 minutes. It is a pretty hefty amount of food for $10! Loved the spicy marinade the tuna was in, and the spicy sauce on the veggies (broccoli, carrots, zucchini) tasted like the spicy sauce you'd get for bibimbap. Just got back from here, and I thought it was pretty good. The teriyaki chicken bowl had tasty tender pieces of chicken and very good steamed vegetables. They give you a lot of chicken, which is good because I got full and didn't finish the rice (bad carbs!). If I could change anything, there would be a little less chicken, more steamed vegetables and have a noodle option instead of rice. I've been going to Red Bowls off and on since they opened. They definitely had some growing pains when they first opened so I would let weeks pass before going in again. Thankfully, they have stabilized and there is a certain amount of reliability I can expect there. The staff is consistent, friendly, and tries really hard to be efficient, keeping people moving during the peak lunch times. I don't recommend eating there when it's busy. There is an okay amount of space but when more than 10 people are in line, things can get uncomfortable. Not only does the line weave through the seating area but once you order, you have to wait for your food. I often order then run an errand. When I come back, my food is ready to go. As some have mentioned, you should probably expect to pay around $10 for your meal. I order the chicken katsu most often because it is prepared just the way I like it. The sauce is not my favorite but does the trick. The vegetable selections have changed over time and it's okay by my standards but definitely not as good as when they first opened. When they first opened, they had a selection of mushrooms mixed in that were fantastic. The udon is a good standby. There are tons of other bowls you can try. I like bulgogi. I tend to stay away from the fish because I'm a bit picky on that front. Good, consistent food, great service, and an all around decent lunch spot. read more

The staff is friendly, and accommodating. I'm a picky eater, and often judge a place on how nutritionally balanced the meals are. At Red Bowls, my favorite bowl was the Earth Bowl with tuna or salmon added (for an additional $2), and half the normal amount of rice, with more veggies. I would pay $25 for that meal RIGHT NOW... I ventured down there yesterday as I was having an asian craving for lunch. There was a line when I walked in but it went fast. There's a lot of choices and this place is very veggie-friendly. Everything comes on a rice with carrots, radish sprouts, broccoli, and cabbage in a bowl. I ordered the chicken katsu, which was very fresh and crispy. But where this place lost a star with me was the obvious pre-pared rice and veggie part of the bowl. I don't work far from here at all and so I was a bit confused why the rice had congealed a bit. I surmised that the early prep work has them assembling the bowl part and then just throwing on whatever entree topping you want, hence why the line moved so fast. And the carrots were a bit too under-cooked for me, still very firm and crunchy. However, the lady working at the register, taking the orders was very nice which leads to me consider going here one more time but earlier then when I went, just to see if I can get the rice and veggie portion of the bowl a bit more fresh. Afternoon bout with drowsiness after a Red Bowls lunch? Check. Basically it's a donburi joint where you choose from tens of different toppings for your rice bowl. I typically go with a mixed chicken terriyaki and bulgogi bowl. The bim bop is delicious and the veggie meals are quite tasty and refreshing. I still have not managed to try any of the sushi bowls though. NOTICE: If you're concerned about the plastic bowls they serve their meals in, I recommend just bringing your own. Since they only have a limited amount of tables (2 large tables, 3-4 smaller tables, and counter seating facing the window), I called ahead to ask them to save the large table for our party of 10. We got there just as the lunch rush was picking up so we were happy to see our table reserved for us. Free hot tea near the window, bottles of water for 50 cents with a meal! Look here is the what you need to know. The hot sauce they use is hotter than Siracha but looks just like it. Don't get fooled. Order the food without hot sauce, simple as that. Keep Siracha in your office fridge and add to taste. I find the fresh fish bowls refreshing and tasty. I have to admit several years ago I had gotten a couple of bowls with poor cuts of fish and I was totally turned off from returning. I've come back and have had nothing but good food. They pump out the bowls quick, even with a line to the door, which happens quite often. If you don't like the spicy sauce then don't get. I don't like sesame seeds on my bowl and I ask to not put them on the bowl. Plus the calls it out like "Noooo Says A Me" and that is just plain fun.
