Visited this place on a recent Sunday morning. Parked in the lot adjacent to the establishment before the valet dudes even showed up. Got to the entrance about 25 minutes before opening hoping to avoid being in a long line, which I heard is pretty common here. Was pleased to see no one else waiting in line. By the time the place opened, there were only about a dozen or so people in line. Kind of regret showing up so early, but absolutely do not regret coming here. The selection of bakery goods here is pretty impressive. I could have ordered like two dozen things since everything looked so delectable, but I exercised restraint. Can't afford to gain too many more pounds. I ended up getting the cinnamon roll, traditional croissant, chocolate chip cookie, and bomboloni. At the register, I also ordered the short rib burrito and lemonade. I paid for my food right then and there, which I appreciated. That meant I could leave whenever I wanted once I was done eating. Anyway, after paying for the food, I was given a coffee cup with a number on it and informed that I could sit wherever I wanted. I could talk about how cool the interior looks, but you can browse through the interior photos and judge for yourself. I felt like I was in one of those themed restaurants at Disneyland. While I waited for the burrito at a table, I started trying out the baked goods I got. Man oh man. I loved everything I got here. The cookie was packed with chocolate goodness and had a wafer thin crispy crust that was amazing. The cinnamon roll, which had a crunchy and sugary exterior, was delicious. My favorite bakery item was the croissant. It was crunchy and flaky on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. There's no way I can go back to eating store bought croissants after this. The short rib burrito was a home run as well. It was so tasty. Loved that it had a slight kick to it. I should point out here that this is not one of those burritos you can grab and eat with your hands. You have to eat it with a fork and knife. Like an enchiladas. What makes this burrito distinctive is that it's got an egg on top of it, not inside it. This review is running super long even by my standards so I'll wrap it up soon. I have to mention that I even enjoyed their "lemonade." I'm not sure why they call it a lemonade when it tastes like blueberries and mandarin oranges, but who cares. It's refreshing as hell. One last thing to share. Just because you park next door and there's no valet guy around doesn't mean you get to park there for free. It's $14 whether you park the car yourself or not. Not sure how people can rate this place less than five stars, but everyone has their own opinion, heh. Went here for dinner. It was very expensive for what you get and I felt it wasn't worth the price. There were some good items though. The good - baguette with butter was surprisingly good - yellowtail tartare - gem salad - tomatoes were good - duck - good flavor and good texture Meh - agnolotti - truffle risotto was a tad salty - sirloin - the beef itself was good, the other things were a bit salty around. - the chicken was recommended, but I found it incredibly normal and not worth the high price. read more

Republique has made me understand what it means to be top quality restaurant. Full disclosure, I am more of a 'hole-in-the-wall' type of guy, and I don't mean glory hole, although those are nice too. It's just when I dine at expensive restaurants, I usually look at the check, and say "HEY! That meal cost $130 per person?! Where did all the money go?!" Five years ago I took my soon-to-be-wife to this restaurant for her birthday and ordered the set menu and wine paring. The dinner was such a memorable dining experience, that it stood out in our memory as one of our best dates. Five years and two kids later, we decided to go back for my wife's birthday, because it had been a while, and this time there was a slip up with one of our dishes towards the end of the meal. The staff and manager, Julie, did everything in their power to make sure we left the restaurant wanting to come back. I'd never experienced a business so serious about retaining a single customer, in such a deft and personable manner. They were apologetic and kind without being over the top, and I was astounded at how well the business functioned in order to curate the customer experience. The service is unobtrusive but dialed in to the minute detail- every time we got up from our seat, we came back to a folded napkin. The servers were funny and helpful, but never disruptive. When we left the retaurant, the hostess opened the door for us. It's rare for me to talk about service more than the food, although the food was top notch (the lobster pasta and baguette are nearly flawless), but that's the impression Republique has left on me. When I got the check, I looked at it, and said, "Wow, that's a steal." So whether you're into hole-in-the-walls or glory holes, know that when you go to Republique, you may buying more than a dinner, you might walk away with a lifelong memory. read more

Tastes pretty average Baguette (5/10): not memorable. Bread was pretty average. Kimchi Fried Rice (6.5/10): not as good as the adobo, actually. Less flavor in the rice and it felt lacking somehow. Short rib was decent. Adobo Fried Rice (7.5/10): actually delicious! I was surprised to see a French restaurant serving Filipino food. The chicken was very tender and savory Brioche French Toast (7/10): pretty good. Nothing mindblowing. Breakfast Sandwich (8.5/10): actually surprisingly good. Looks very simple, but super flavorful. I just moved to the area and was thrilled when I saw République was walking distance to me. République is busy more times then not. And for good reason. It's recognized by the Michelin Guide and you'll see why when you visit. It's a beautiful open sunlight restaurant that has a big dining room filled with seating. I've only been in the breakfast/lunch service and you will wait in line to place your order. There are a bunch of delicious pastry options to choose from while in line. After you order, it's opening seating so you can sit wherever that's open. I've order the Koshihikari rice and the quiche from the pastry case. The rice is great, my boyfriend loved it! It's very flavorful and satisfying. The quiche is delicious and they rewarm it perfectly, the crust is perfect and flaky. I've gotten both the Vietnamese latte and the café con horchata. They are both okay, nothing out of this world. However, they do have other drinks that I do want to try. Like I said, they have a wonderful pastry case with plentiful of options. I've only tried the dulce de leche pound cake and it was fantastic! It's definitely a new favorite spot that I will be coming back on repeat. So much more to try! read more

Came here for a date night with my husband, and was completely blown away! I am so happy we finally were able to dine here. The ambiance, service, and quality of food were all 10/10! We ordered the blue fin tuna tartlet (packed with flavor in a tiny handheld tart!), baguette and butter (the world's SOFTEST bread!), yellowtail tartare (the zest!!! was def my fav), duck (so tender!) and the Campanelle pasta. We also got a side of fries that was so savory! To finish, we got the strawberry tiramisu, which was to die for. The service was quick, friendly and so thorough. Yes, I know it's a fancy place. Yes, I know a lot of people go there just to take Instagram pictures but the food is legitimately good I mean really good. The interior is also classic French cafe and feels like they used french street views inside of the building. Friendly, well spoken staff, they clearly knew their food. Its an open kitchen and you can see the big grill. Yes, it's expensive but it's not overpriced. This is a great place to treat yourself or your loved ones..! can't believe I'm saying this, but the duck was better than the beef steak. The french fries were crispy pieces of perfection. The croquette was a crunchy morsel of bacony fat and potato. The tuna and caviar was my least favorite skip it... But then again, l've never been blown away by caviar. read more

this spot has been on my list of places to try for a while and i finally had to chance to try it! the line seemed pretty long but it went by really quickly, i think we waited around 15-20 minutes. you order first and then it's open seating. i ordered the: potato pancake kimchi fried rice caramel banana pudding bread with vanilla cream short rib burrito my favorite was the potato pancake, i loved how crispy the pancake part was and it paired so well with all the toppings, very creative and unique dish. i also really liked the banana pudding bread, it was crispy and soft and had a really great banana flavor which went well with the vanilla cream on top. the burrito and kimchi fried rice were just okay, the meat was rlly tender for the fried rice but the dish itself doesn't rlly taste like kimchi fried rice. overall loved the vibes and ambiance of the interior and i would come back for the potato pancake and to try other desserts read more

My friend says this is one of her fave foodie spots. So let's see if they're pretty good eh or ew. They were on the Michelin guide and have a bunch of yummy looking pastries. I ended up getting their quiche slice and banana croissant thingy to try. The quiche had a buttery flakey crust with super creamy rich savory eggs and a good amount of spinach. My friend said it's the best she's ever had and she wasn't wrong. The croissant was nice and crispy flakey caramelized and buttery and had a soft gooey sweet yummy bananay middle. A bit of a wait on Sunday morning around 11am but the line moves quickly. The interior has a nice touch and is worth a walkthrough. The spicy fried chicken sandwich is solid but nothing life changing. The brioche French toast is a must! It is soft and melt in your mouth on the inside but the outside is just slightly crispy. The caramel banana bread pudding is more like a banana bread with bananas on top. Nice if you're a banana fan but a little dry. Kimchi fried rice was good, it has a good kick. Potato pancake is also good with a lot of flavor. Recommend trying the pastries either from the outside window or before you get seated. read more

Went to République on La Brea and Wilshire and really liked it. The place is beautiful and has a great vibe, but it does get pretty busy. The pastries were amazing...definitely the highlight. Food overall was good, though a bit pricey for what you get. I'd come back, especially for the pastries. read more

We finally were able to try Republique! Arrived around 10am on a Saturday and waited about 20 mins to order. When we left at 11am, the line was triple the length (come early!). Pastries 10/10: WOW, they can't go wrong. We tried multiple and we couldn't get enough What we ordered from best to worse: 1.Breakfast quesadilla: basically the French version of a Oaxacan tlayuda. The cauliflower was such a tasty twist to what could have been a basic dish. It was loaded with flavor and was a very good size. We ended up sharing it! 2.Mediterranean eggs: probably the most unique egg dish I've tried. Taste was 10/10, but the portion was very small. It was two eggs in a puddle of yogurt which tasted amazing but left us wanting more. 3.BLT Benedict: the least memorable from what we ordered. Still had fresh ingredients and tasted lovely but was pretty basic. Wouldn't order again. As expected, the ambiance was amazing and made us want to hangout and just enjoy the space. Parking lot is tiny and valet parking is pretty much mandatory You walk in and get funneled into the line of ordering desserts while you browse through the daily fresh made breads and cakes. At the end of the line, there's two kiosks that will take your order. My wife and I went during lunch time so it's cafeteria style seating and you get a number sign after you order and the servers will bring your food to you. The basque cheesecake was the most memorable item here and most other items on the menu are ok/above par. The ambiance and the decor is what really draws people in. I've had this restaurant on my try list for a very long time and this recent weekend I was able to take my wife here as she also was heavily interested in this restaurant. First impressions from us is that the wait time can be a bit off. We expected to wait about 30 minutes to an hour on a busy weekend (lunch hour) but we waited only about 10-15 minutes to get seated. PARKING: No designated lot, recommended to park in nearby residential streets (free) and take a walk over to the restaurant. For first time diners, this is a order then sit down type restaurant. With an amazing display of pastries along the way before taking your order. There's a booth window outdoors with a different line outside for ordering pastries only. With plenty of diners around, we thought it would be difficult to find seats but it was easier than we thought with plenty of diners going in and out of the restaurant after their meals. Also pretty nice that there's plenty of seats in the restaurant along with counters seating as well. Our first time visit consist of two pastries orders: - Creme Brulee Bomboloni ($4.50) - WOW, this is literally a mouthful of creme brulee BOMB. The cream absolutely melts in your mouth and it's full of flavor from the shell and the cream. Not very pricy and definitely worth a try. - Almond Dacquoise ($7) - This is by far the best pastry I've ever had. While the looks can deceive you, the pastry is soft and similar to a souffle style dish. Love the flavoring blast as you taste the pastry. Very well presented and definitely a pastry that you could get addicted to. HIGHLY RECOMMEND Brunch items ordered: - MAINE LOBSTER AND DUNGENESS CRAB OMELETTE ($28) - Classic omelet dish, filled with gruyere cheese, spinach, hollandaise sauce, and a side of sauced salad. Presented super neatly, eggs were cooked perfectly and cut very easily. The salad complimented the omelet extremely well. Not very salty, would say that you can't really go wrong with this dish if you're having a hard time deciding what to order. Simple and delicious. - BLT BENEDICT ($25) - Similar to the omelet, this was super flavorful. Full of ingredients that include bacon, avocado, arugula, balabrian, sauce, and a poached egg. Loved everything about this benedict, very savory, and not very salty considering the ingredients. Highly recommend if you want a fast bite. Overall, a wonderful restaurant, amazing brunch spot. Love the interior as they have a open kitchen, and it's pretty interior with their medieval modern styling. Love how spacious it is even when it's packed. Amazing food and service. Only con is that they don't take reservations for their brunch but they do for their dinner times. This place is very popular so expect a line and a bit of a wait. But the line goes reasonably fast and despite the number of people you can generally find a seat. The skylights make for a very pleasant morning dining experience with wonderful natural light without three wind or weather. I ordered the Croque Madame wondering, how good can a ham and cheese sandwich be? The answer is, pretty damn good! The gruyere cheese is fantastic, the chopped ham was the perfect amount and the fried egg on top was just decadent! More places have to copy this! My wife had the lobster omelette and it was also very good. The flavor was mild but very nice. The Belgian waffle was fine ... But not as special. Warning: the valet parking is $14, which is pretty steep if you consider that you're probably only going to be here an hour or so. The one thing I would change is the choice of drinks. If you don't want coffee you can have ginger ale or lemonade. That's it. Would it really kill you to offer some diet Coke? I had the ginger ale and it was just too much. I had to water it down to make it drinkable. I was considering dropping down to 4 stars for the drinks and parking ... But this is about food so I kept it at 5. read more

I came here for a birthday brunch with my friend on a Thursday afternoon. Seating is first come, first served, but we found a spot within about 5 minutes. You order at the front and they bring the food out to you, which worked out smoothly. We shared the ricotta toast, and it was amazing. I never had anything like this before. It truly melts in your mouth. I ordered the regular breakfast (minus the bacon, subbed for avocado), and my friend got the steak. The fries that accompanied the steak were the most crispiest flavorful fries I ever had. I felt bad I kept picking at my friends fries. We also picked up a scone and a cookie. Everything was absolutely delicious, incredibly fresh, and full of flavor. One thing I have to highlight is the French baguette with the butter and jam. OMG... SO mouthwatering. I would honestly come back just to buy a jar of their preserves. The pastries were wonderful, and my Vietnamese coffee was perfect. To top off the experience, I even saw a comedian there and got a selfie with him! The vibe was awesome, the food was fantastic, and the service was great. I'd love to come back for a weekend brunch. My sister and I took our cousin out for a late birthday brunch. The line was really long but went by pretty fast. Whether you're want to purchase some pastries or order some food, you'll need to fall in line regardless. While we were in line, of course we ordered some pastries: seasonal bread pudding, berry tres leches cake, creme brûlée bomboloni, pandan cookie, and spinach tomato quiche with caramelized onions & cheese. As for brunch, we ordered a brioche french toast, lobster omelette, Filipino adobo fried rice, and chicken & biscuit. For drinks we ordered a carafe mimosa and iced ube coconut matcha latte. While we looked for an open table to sit down. My cousin noticed one of our water drinking glasses was damaged so we flagged a server/busser. They mentioned it was the way the glasses were stacked and he proceeded to put his finger in the glass to show us the glass did not have any shards. Furthermore, he never gave us a new glass and was very rude. We had to flag another busser to get a new cup. Regardless of the mishap we encountered with the glasses, the food was extremely amazing! Each entree we ordered had their own unique flavor and taste. Would definitely come back although I hope not to encounter the same problem with glassware. read more

Had an end of year date a couple of weeks ago. The ambiance was beautiful, even though we waited a little bit to be seated for our reservation. Andrew D. was our server, and he went over the menu and concept, along with giving some recommendations. To drink, my fiancé had the Skyduster IPA and I had their passion fruit cocktail. Both were delicious. We ordered escargot en croute as an hors d'oeuvres, kurobata pork belly as a second course, then I ordered the venison with peppercorn jus and my fiancé had the halibut. A complimentary cup of mushroom soup was also served. We also got a baguette with the butter, and I selfishly ordered more bread so we could take it home with the butter. All of it was delicious and unique, but they all felt familiar in the best way. The mushroom soup was a stunner, and my fiancé (who usually resents mushrooms) really enjoyed it. Our favorite dish was the pork belly; it was interesting because usually we eat crispy pork belly, but the textures and flavors of the dish were decadent but light. A little disappointing for a place with a Michelin star, especially since the restaurant itself is gorgeous. The line was long, but it moved pretty quickly. The guy serving the pastries was very nice, but unfortunately the servers at the tables were not very helpful. I ordered a latte that was way too strong for my taste. I asked for more milk, but one server completely ignored me, and I only got help after asking again. My friend's food also arrived about 40 minutes after the rest of ours. When we asked about it, one server ignored us again, but thankfully another staff member stepped in and finally brought the plate out. I had the regular breakfast. The potatoes and bread were easily the highlight -- both 10/10. I wasn't a fan of how the bacon was served, and the eggs were just okay. The pastries were decent, but nothing particularly memorable. The standout item was definitely the tres leches cake -- perfectly sweet and probably the best thing we tried. read more

The croque madame was exceptional: the sandwich had a perfectly crispy crust and was filled with plenty of Gruyère cheese and fresh, non-deli looking ham. The salad on the side was refreshing as well. I also got the coconut cake with yuzu cream I think: it was pretty good, had a slight lemon flavor and not super sweet and had a lot of fresh coconut. You order at the front cashier and then find your own seat, which I prefer to waiting for a seat and server. It makes it pretty casual overall too, but most people seem to be dressed more smart casual than anything. Very good, looking forward to coming back. read more

My first visit to Republique was a disappointment. Our entrees were unremarkable, the drinks tasted basic, and service was downright disappointing. I doubt I'll be giving their breakfast another shot. The long line and difficult parking situation on top of our lackluster experience pretty much seals the deal. We ordered the Short Rib Burrito and Adobo Fried Rice. The short rib was tough and the fried rice didn't taste like adobo. For such a well reviewed and renowned restaurant, our entrees were not up to par. I'm not sure if our interactions with the staff were influenced by the fact that we came in the day after thanksgiving, but everyone seemed to hate their job. We were really excited to finally try Republique after all these years, but our visit left us disillusioned. read more

Had dinner here tonight to celebrate our daughter's 19th birthday. They do a fabulous job celebrating birthdays. Every person who brings something to the table says happy birthday and they give you a sweet birthday card. At the end they give the person having the birthday a scoop of ice cream with a candle. This place has a super cool vibe and great energy. The service started out phenomenal but by the end slowed down significantly. I don't recall our waiter Liam even asking us if we enjoyed our meal. Never had a manager stop by to check on us. I thought that was strange considering this is a high end restaurant. I will focus on the food. First of all the bread service is amazing and the butter makes it.I think we could have eaten bread only for dinner and been happy. The hamachi crudo was spectacular. The flavor was incredible. We enjoyed the roasted spring vegetables. We loved the risotto and the gnudi pasta. Our final course is where it went off the rails. The strip loin had so much fat. It was incredibly disappointing. This and the fact our service which was excellent till the end is the only thing keeping this from a five star review. Do not get the beef! read more

With the Wilshire/La Brea subway station now open and so very close, my daughter's father-in-law and I had a chance to stop by around 10:30 on the Tuesday after Memorial Day. As explained in other reviews, the lines here for the first-come/first-serve Cafe & Bakery are long and stretched out the door. However, the Express Window on the outside was unoccupied (customer or server), so waited in front of the closed window, and soon a harried but no-nonsense employee soon came to ask what I wanted. It was later in the morning, so my first choice of a croissant was sold out. But they still had a chocolate croissant which I got ($7.50). It's beautiful with the outside buttered layers of the croissant being crispy and the inside being flakey. The transaction was quick. Saw no reason to stay much longer, so found an empty table outside, tried not to make too much of a mess while eating the decadent croissant, and we were on our way. read more

The reason for the 3 Stars... They force a Healthy LA Tax on your bill that is not required by law. I asked them to remove that Tax and they refused. This Tax is meant to help the restaurant pay for employee health care. Proving Health Care to their employees is their responsibility, not the paying customers responsibility. The fee is exorbitant, cheap, and tacky! They won't tell you this up front. You have to look closely at your check and there's a line item called 'Healthy LA.' It's truly outrageous! Great Food, amazing staff, and beautiful location! Breakfast was really good and different! Portions were small and pricey. The restaurant was clean and there was plenty of seating. Everything was so delicious. Our favorite was the strawberry passion fruit cream pie. Wow!!! The taste was phenomenal and so tasty. The crust was perfectly cooked and I loved the strawberry and passion fruit cream. Everything melts in your mouth and we were both wanting more. We ate all of the dessert before our entree came to the table. The burrito and fried rice were both solid. I loved the baguette with the butter and jam. Came once for breakfast/brunch and once for dinner- can say both experiences were splendid! Though, I may be a bit partial to the breakfast/brunch here bc I love pastries and theirs are spectacular (especially the canele!). Highly recommend to treat yourself to a dinner here, even the bread and butter were very memorable. We ordered 1-2 dishes from each section of their menus and not a single one was a let down. If you get the chicken (dinner menu), disclaimer it is not a big bird/portion is smaller than you'd expect. However, the service and flavor pairings of everything made up for it. Firstly, do not part at the lot, it's minuscule and $14 for brunch timing parking is steep. The lines were long but it moved quickly. You are quickly overwhelmed with the amount of pastry choices and very little time to decide. Once you picked out your pastries, you're able to order your entrées at the cashier and pay for your food. They give you a number and then off you go walking through the entire restaurant looking for a table. In our case, it was standing around waiting for someone to get up. The restaurant was full and yet they refused to open up the second floor for patrons. Our food arrived, and we still didn't have a table to sit in, which was frustrating. The five of us squeezed into a two top until a larger table was available. Once we were done with our meal, I noticed there were tables that were empty that were for dirty plates that were not cleared in time. The food was good but for the service and price for valet, would not recommend unless you were looking specifically to overpay for next to no service. read more

Other than the parking being a complete and utter shit show... the food and ambiance is 10/10. The must gets: Omelette Brioche French toast Kimchi fried rice Ricotta cheese toast (I believe the fruit on top is seasonal) the bread and cheese is amazing enough to get it! The fruit is a bonus. This place used to be very good. Note* they have a 4% healthy fee (whatever that is). Havent been here in a long time and missed their avocado toast. The wait was the usual, long lines outside that would take about 30 minutes before you can choose bakery goods and order. After you order, they give you a number and you find a random seat and food will come. The avocado toast for back then was very flavorful. It had a yuzu dressing, crunchy bits, and seasoning on top. Now you can barely taste the dressing and its bland. The adobo fried rice would have been good if the rice wasnt hard. It felt like i was biting into uncooked rice. The potato pancakes were good but not as crispy as it should be. The latte tasted mostly of milk with a hint of matcha. So the rose matcha latte tasted like a floraly milk. Their blueberry tart was good. It wasnt too tart and it was sweet. But for the price im not sure its worth it. A little sad that this place went downhill. I guess it got too popular? Street Parking is hard to find so you have to valet since there isnt a parking lot. read more

Been to Republique for brunch and dinner and although I enjoyed both brunch is better. The pastries and desserts here are quite amazing. If they ever have the Austrian soufle pancake on the menu it's a must order. Truly memorable dessert. The pastry counter is full of delectable choices and it's really hard to decide on what to get. I really enjoyed the roll cake, ham and cheese sandwich. The canele is the only thing I wouldn't get again. On the lunch menu we really loved the Filipino fried rice so much so we ordered a second order. If you like coffee don't skip out on getting your favourite espresso drink. The mocha here is really great. During breakfast and lunch hours there are no reservations so do expect to wait in line on the weekends. We've been to République many times for brunch, but never for dinner--so we finally tried it tonight while celebrating my son's birthday, and we had a great experience with the family. Dinner felt like a tasting-style, shared-plate experience, and everything we ordered was top notch. The bread and butter was a hit as always, the pastas were amazing, the steak was cooked perfectly, and the Dover sole, deboned tableside, was fresh and clean-tasting. Their execution is consistently impressive. The staff was very friendly, and the restaurant is beautiful at night with all the lights. The overall service felt polished--they changed our plates with each course and kept the meal moving at a nice pace. The one area for improvement was with the team clearing plates and resetting the table. They were very fast and efficient, but at times a bit abrupt, often reaching between us without warning. It caught my daughter off guard more than once when someone suddenly squeezed between her and my son. A simple "excuse me, may I take your plate?" and serving from the outside would make things feel smoother. Even slowing down just a tad when taking or placing plates would maintain that first-class experience rather than giving off a "we're so busy and rushing" feeling. We also found the dessert menu a bit underwhelming compared to their incredible bakery selection during the day--still good, just not as exceptional. Overall, it was a wonderful dinner and a great place to celebrate a special occasion. We'd definitely return to try more of their seasonal dishes. read more
