I am pleasantly surprised with my lunch experience at Rice N Roll! They offer a very affordable lunch menu with a variety of thai, sushi and the mixed Thai/Sushi. All right around the $10 price mark. I opted for the Spicy Sushi lunch. It comes with three piece of Nigiri, spicy salmon maki (4 pieces) and spicy tuna maki (4 pieces) with your choice of salad or miso soup. The miso soup was your typical variety. What I liked is that the tofu was very fresh - if tofu can be fresh? It was soft - the perfect texture really. The Nigiri (tuna, whitefish and salmon) were great. The fish was fresh, perfectly cut and served. The rolls both were exactly what I want when I order a spicy roll - for it to actually be spicy! How many times have you ordered a spicy tuna roll and it doesn't even have a hint of spice? A lot. Well - the rolls here had a great level of heat. Also - the ginger was quite gingery spicey - fresh. Fresh - I've used that word many times in this review. That is what you want with any sushi place. It's a tiny space - so be prepared at those peak times. You can do takeout as well. Next time I'm going in for the Thai. Based on the sushi experience I had, I can only imagine that they will provide an equally as pleasing dish. read more

I couldn't be happier to have Rice N Roll so close to me! I've been here three times already, all for take-out. Once we did wait at the bar for our food, but we have never technically dined in, if you will. This place is extremely clean and tastefully decorated. All the employees were friendly and helpful. And their food was damn good. I've now tried several rolls on the menu, as well as their tom kha soup, seaweed salad, and crab rangoon appetizer. The sushi is incredibly fresh and made well. Love, love, love it. I can't say enough good things about this place. Best sushi. read more

my MKE food buddy and I were eager to try the newest spot on the block, given the rave reviews on Yelp and OnMilwaukee. we arrived just shortly after happy hour ended. because the place was packed, we were seated at the sushi bar, to avoid waiting otherwise. for appetizers, we ordered the crab rangoons and the fried calamari. for both of these dishes, the efforts were spent on presentation. the taste of both dishes were subpar. the crab rangoons truly were bland. the addition of celery was unnecessary. I prefer the crab rangoons from my neighborhood chinese take-out spot. as my friend best put it, the fried calamari was akin to grade school soggy chicken nuggets. the calamari was not only lacking the appropriate texture, the flavor of the batter was non-existent. the batter "spices" included salt and black pepper. the sushi was decent for MKE. I enjoyed the shrimp tempura. the addition of avocados and asparagus added great texture. Overall, this spot did not live up to the hype. I did enjoy sitting at the sushi bar and watching the chefs. I am willing to come back but only for happy hour. read more

Everything my friends and I got here was just delightful! This price point here is way less than I would expect for the quality that comes out of the kitchen. The curries were spicy, but not enough to make flames shoot out of my nose. The sushi was plentiful and fresh. I will definitely be back! read more

So good! Our server was wonderful. Fish was good, and the display was wonderful. Make sure you get the Tlm Kha soup and any of the signature rolls! The restaurant is small so expect a wait. We will absolutely be back! read more

I placed an order the other night through grubhub and had a delivery time of 745pm, it was about 630 at that point. Not a big deal, I was anticipating a wait. I got a text notification a few minutes later that my meal was being prepared and again confirming that same delivery window. I went back to doing laundry, and oddly enough about 15 minutes later, food was here. Don't get me wrong, I'm not mad they were early, but almost an hour earlier than anticipated is sort of frustrating, I had other things going at that point. Anyhow: the food. I got the carribean fried rice. It was amazing and I ate entirely more than I needed to because the flavors were so delicious. It had cashews, raisins, and pineapple. My only complaint was I wish it had some spice to it. All in all great and I know I'll be ordering again, I just really hope the delivery window can be accurate to maybe 20 minutes instead of an hour. read more

I'm always a little hesitant if there are combo restaurants with Japanese, but in search of a solid sushi place, was happy to try. Food: They have a large menu with an assortment of salad, soups, appetizer, traditional rolls, special rolls, sashimi. They also have Thai food and other Japanese entrees. I tried their chirashi (different types of sashimi on a bed of sushi rice). For the cost and the ungodly amount of rice on the plate, I would've expected more fish, so I was a little disappointed about that. But when I tasted the sashimi itself... oh my goodness. It brought me back to my visit to Japan, it tasted really fresh. They also had two pieces of tamagoyaki (rolled omelette) that were sweet and delicious. (But really, there was way too much rice.) My husband tried their Call Me Crazy and Red Boy rolls. Very pretty plating and super yummy. I will probably opt to trying more rolls next time instead of the chirashi. The pricing can really vary. Traditional rolls are generally a bit cheaper. Some of the signature rolls are $9, but it can go up to $15. Mine also come out with complimentary miso soup. I've never had such a big bowl of it, but again it tasted great! Well-balanced. Drinks: They have beer, wine, bubble tea! Tried out their taro bubble tea. It's a smoothie. I've never had a bubble tea come out with whipped cream on top and a maraschino cherry... But the tapioca were perfectly chewy. Service: We had a friendly server. I felt like he checked in on us an appropriate amount of times. Didn't feel like we were searching for him or that he was coming by too many times. Ambiance: Very relaxed. Large windows with lots of natural light. There were a few tables outside too. Feels a little tight spacing, but with how busy I can imagine it might be, they make it work! Overall, it's a great place to bring out for a date, catch up with a friend, eat solo for great sushi. Wouldn't really recommend groups of people. I am looking forward to trying out more of their menu! read more

After hearing that a new sushi restaurant was opening in my area, I was excited. I ordered delivery so my review is strictly based on the food and not the service. It was the worst sushi I had. For a place called Rce N Roll, they sure do suck at rolling because everything started falling apart as soon as my chopsticks picked them up. As for the taste, I think they do a good job with coming up with unique combinations i.e. the awesome roll but I had a few basic rolls like the spicy salmon and Alaskan as well that were awful. I'm hesitant to try again but after seeing all the good reviews, I hope my order was just an isolated case. read more

Rice N Roll has always been my absolute favorite sushi place! Their food is something I crave even after moving and not being close enough to eat there as often. Today, their SERVICE blew me away! I ordered lunch to work and my soup was forgotten. In 15 minutes, they had contacted me, driven back with my soup, and even included a bonus California roll! After trying to go to EE-sane and Jai Now for Thai and having both randomly be closed, decided to give Rice N Roll a try. Very happy we did! Has a good mix of sushi and Thai options, everything is clearly marked Vegetarian and/or Gluten free if applicable which was nice. Fresh Rolls were really good, jicama is a unique but nice addition, something different than your run of the mill fresh rolls. I got the pad thai with tofu, good size portion. Sauce was a little on the sweet side, but definitely tasty. My bf got the pad see ew and liked it. Solid spot for thai, didn't get a chance to try the sushi but that seems to be a big focus here. They have options for brown or black rice on the sushi too which is pretty rad. Monday and Tuesday is sushi happy hour with half price rolls, definitely seems worth checking out! read more

This is my favorite restaurant in MKE!!! Hands down, no competition!!! The sushi is great, the entrees are great, awesome service and a great vibe. A cute place, especially to grab a bite on the patio in the summer time. I've eaten here soooo many times and never disappointed. read more

Usually a thai/sushi combination restaurant would make me weary but during my time in Milwaukee I probably ate more food from this restaurant (mostly because of their delivery option, especially during the winter) than almost any other asian restaurant. The sushi is good, the Tom Yum (thai soup) is also good and if they have a special kind of fish (usually fatty salmon) then I highly suggest trying a piece or two. The actual restaurant looks very modern and clean but the space itself is quite small which I actually came to enjoy more over time. It feels like a sushi place in the city, with just enough room to fit a few groups of people at one time. They decorate their sushi with a little extra flare (sauces, various colored roe) which I don't always enjoy but here they really nail the right amount of additional ingredients to make a dish feel unique. Being able to order thai dishes made it easier to eat here with people that do not typically eat sushi. The only dish I did not fully enjoy was their Pad Thai. It seems a little bland but in a pinch it is definitely not a bad option (still worth getting if you want to feed a few people with takeout). read more

The food was not worth the price. I got a california roll and a spicy salmon roll, and the miso soup. The sushi was room temperature when I got it. I prefer it cold, since it's raw fish. The crab in the cali was not real carb, which is mainly why I rated it low. The spicy tuna and the miso soup were decent. read more

Great little sushi spot, so happy I finally stopped in! Rice N Roll has a large selection of sushi that covers all of the classics, simple rolls and a nice variety of extravagant rolls. I would highly recommend the Farwell, it has unagi, tempura and a killer spicy sauce drizzled over the top, we liked it so much after we tried it that we ordered a second! While I didn't try any they had a good selection of Thai dishes that sounded delicious as well. I've been on the lookout for a new place in my neighborhood for sushi and Rice N Roll is it! Yum! I would highly recommend it if you are in the area looking for sushi & Thai food. read more

The food is very good, but the woman I spoke to on the phone messed up my order. What was supposed to be fried shoyu turned out to be fried tofu when I returned home and opened the bag. I guess you have to speak *very* clearly. read more

This is our go-to delivery place! Some of us get sushi, some of us get Thai food, and everyone is happy. My favorites are the curries: I love the Panang Curry, Green Harbor, and Red Curry, and based on those I'm betting I'd love any of them. The sushi fans in my house give high marks to the Futo Roll and the Shrimp Tempura Roll, but say they are all amazing. The Egg Rolls are always a hit with everyone. Highly recommend! read more

Well, you guys were right - this place is stellar. We made a reservation for 6:30, though we didn't need it. I was nervous reading people say how small it was, but we were one of three or four tables, and it was perfect. We were seated by the window and perused their extensive drink menu. Our server was present when needed, but never pushy. We stated with the Curry Buttery Dip (vegan!) which was the masaman curry sauce with onions, peanuts, potato and carrot. This was served in a small dish with four pieces of roti bread. Their roti was very... doughy I guess? It didn't have any crunch on the outside layers as I've come accustomed to, but it was delicious. I am going to try and control myself while describing this masaman curry sauce... IT WAS AMAZING! Buttery, savory, sweet, creamy, spicy... I wanted to bathe in it. My only complaint here was that the roti proved difficult to dip/scoop any sauce, and it seemed like we all took a scoop, ate the chunks and then wiped up the sauce... difficult to eat but delicious. For entrees, we ordered the Panang curry with chicken (good, but my picture was blurry so I didn't include it), the Caribbean Rice (served in a fresh pineapple!), the Two Nations Noodle and the Green Harbor. Tim's Panang came with bell pepper and green bean with peanuts with a nutty and spicy sauce. My Green Harbor dish came with a side of roti bread (4 pieces), a small dish of white rice and a huge bowl with breaded crispy chicken over the veggies and green curry sauce. It was pretty spicy, and I loved it. Joe's Two Nation noodle dish was served with huge chewy udon noodles, hot chili with bell pepper, egg, string bean, onion, scallion, cherry tomato & basil. He noted it was ALMOST too spicy for him, but it was devoured. Nancy's Caribbean rice dish was not spicy at all; fried rice with pineapple, egg, bell pepper, cherry tomato, golden raisin, scallion, onion, cashew nut & roasted chili puree. We liked the idea of serving it in the fruit base that it was cooked with, utilizing every part of the vegetable ;). For dessert, we ordered the fried banana balls. The serving is four balls and one scoop of vanilla ice cream. It seems they they cut a banana into four large pieces, rolled them in batter, rolled that in coconut and then deep fried it. The result was a coconutty, hot mess of yum. They were delicious, while very rich - I could MAYBE have two, but one was the perfect endcap to an already amazing meal. Interior/exterior decor was adorable, the place was clean, the service was attentive, the food was phenomenal... wish I lived closer! This place was outstanding! read more

History

Established in 2014.

Chef Tony Koraneekit started his culinary career in New York's famous Restaurant Row in Times Square. After moving to New York from Thailand in 2005, Tony, a business major at local Pace University, started working nights in his aunt's seafood restaurant, Danny's Grand Sea Palace in midtown Manhattan. The Sea Palace boasted lavish seafood creations and a nightly cabaret that was famous with its patrons. It was here that Tony discovered he had a passion not only for food but for the entrepreneurial side of the restaurant business. In 2007, Tony moved to the Midwest and continued working with his aunt as a sushi chef, in two of her Thai/Japanese-inspired restaurants just north of Chicago. Chef JJ discovered his passion for working with food while cooking with his mother at a young age, creating Thai dishes from scratch. He too moved from Thailand, coming to the Chicago area in 2009, where he attended school and started working in his aunt's restaurants.

They were very attentive. We did not complain about the food because we were hot and just wanted to hurry up instead of waiting longer. This restaurant holds a special place in my heart for the past few years. Some of my favorite things to get are the crunchy bites, potsticker, and special rolls. I'm a big fan of salmon, so that is something I always get, and they NEVER disappoint. The presentation? Always got people asking me where I'm eating just through the pics. The taste? Everything is so fresh. The sashimi slices are cut just right, hold firm yet melt sweetly the moment you take a bite, and the flavors feel like fireworks in your mouth. On top of that, the servers and chefs are very friendly and attentive, which I really appreciate. My friend and I spontaneously stopped in on Sunday for our first visit. Service was slow for a not so busy Sunday. We didn't get waited on right away to place our drink order so we had to order everything all at once. The menu was extensive but I thought the prices were a little steep. We waited a whilte for our sushi which is fine, but I noticed our rolls sitting on top of the sushi bar for quite some time before the server noticed it. Our server checked on us once but seemed very rushed. I would have ordered a second drink, however we didn't get the opportunity until the check arrived. The sushi itself was okay.
