Stopped in for lunch this past Sunday while checking out the Stockyards area .. was recommended to us as a good BBQ place. Was pretty busy there, but they have a waitlist system to text you when your table is ready. We were seated, and got a nice sampling of different types of BBQ - ribs, smoked catfish, smoked sausage. Average food, awesome location. This restaurant is located in a very lively historic district called the Fort Worth Stockyards (worthy place to visit for tourists [pun intended]). They say, nothing embodies the American West heritage better than this area - saloons, rodeos, cowboys, livestock, shops, BBQ restaurants; they're right about that. However, the food at this restaurant was forgettable. I ordered the bison burger and fries. The meat was dry and fries were bland. It wasn't bad but nothing special. Our little parent get away has been going strong yet missing our 3 monkies the last couple of days. In honor of our carnivores, Mother of Cashew and I sought out the elusive Beef Ribs in Fort Worth. We didn't believe the Chick Fil e sign done by the cows, we want to eat more cows. Our journey took us from Sachse to Ft Worth which took 1:20 with no tolls and crazy construction. Arriving to the area be aware that traffic is heavy and you will encounter individuals on horses holding a beer and party people dancing in the streets (Insert David Bowie and Jager's 80's version). Parking is limited yet there is a public parking lot in front of Ricky's at $10. When you arrive there is a waiting list approximately 1 hour so make sure you enjoy the area. There are plenty things to see, go to the petting zoo and purchase your cowboy apparel. You can also nibble on some other foods being sold in the area while you wait. We were called and as we selected first available ate in the patio area. The restrooms are located to the far right as you enter the establishment. The objective was beef ribs and Ricky's has all you can eat for $13. You're given 4 ribs with fries and given 2 ribs for every reorder. They had a good taste yet cut very bad some ribs had hardly any meat. Mother of cashew ordered the corn balls which aren't all that just eat the fries. The service was ok. Since it was National Pi Day we had the homemade peKAN pie which was Awesome. I highly recommend that slice to end your meal. This is a good couple or family stop. The cost was $50 so a good evening meal for all to enjoy. read more

I thought this was gonna be another tourist trap. It turned out, this place was actually pretty affordable. Service was pretty good. My waiter was brand new (her second day) but she was very patient and sought help when she didn't have an answer. If I were more hungry and came with more people, I'd totally try the AYCE options. Went here on 11/28/14 - Black Friday. 20 minute wait for 2 to eat at the bar. Not terrible. Brian P. and I got the $12.99 all you can eat ribs. He got the fries and I got the potato salad. While the ribs are good, they're inconsistent in size and quality. Once you eat your original 4 beef ribs, servers bring you out 2 ribs at a time. Some are large, some are skimpy with hardly any meat. Some are tender and fall off of the bone and others are burnt. Very odd. Be forewarned - club soda costs the same as sweet tea, rather than free like other restaurants. Bathrooms smell god awful and the women's bathroom needs more stalls. No bueno. While I did like most of my ribs, I don't think I'd make the trek down here again. read more

Wife and one son got burgers and had no complaints. One son got the pork ribs and ate 2.5 of them. Said they were bland. I had the beef ribs and they were overcooked to the point of bitterness. First the good - the location is awesome. It's right on a bustling street with lots of neon, cute walking centers, and actual cattle. The service was good (but slow) and the margarita was excellent. I also HIGHLY recommend the brisket bites, maybe one of the best appetizers I've ever had anywhere. The brisket was moist and they fried it to the perfect crunch. Also, the prices are hard to beat, you get a good bang for your buck. Now the bad. Most of the rest of the food was honestly not good. I ordered a combo plate with beef ribs and turkey. The beef ribs were very unremarkable but more problematic, didn't have that much meat on them. The turkey, however, was terrible, probably the worst I've ever had. It was incredibly rubbery. I'd take lunchmeat turkey to this any day. The sides, and I know its hard to believe, all tasted fizzy. I think its from whatever peppers they use in their foods because they included a whole pepper on my plate and it definitely had that off-putting fizzy taste. Friendly staff who are eager to please, conversational, and prompt. Parking, too, is nearby. Food was good - I got the three meat combo with brisket, fried catfish, and smoke sausage. The meats were smoky and tasty, although I wish the brisket was a little juicier. Catfish was seasoned pretty well and batter was not too heavy, allowing the flavor of there fish to come through. Others in my party had items ranging from all-you-can eat ribs, brisket tacos, chicken tacos, and chopped brisket sandwich and they were all pleased with their meals. I was so excited to eat here and try the bbq. I've never had Texas bbq so I wanted to try some. The inside of this place is very cool. I loved the Texas cowboy vibe. We started off with an appetizer of fried pickles. Honestly, they weren't great. They were VERY salty. I usually like a lot of salt and flavor in my food, but this was too much. We ended up not eating over half the basket. For our entrees, I ordered the brisket sandwich with fried okra, hubby got the brisket tacos with cowboy fries (fries with onions and jalapeños) and my son ordered the flank steak with fries. I thought my food was good. I've never had brisket so I don't know what to compare it to. I was wanting pulled pork but I didn't see it on the menu. The brisket was very tender but did have some slimy fatty spots on it so I picked that off. There was no sauce on it so I asked our waitress for some bbq sauce. I was pretty disappointed in it. It was sweet with what tasted like cinnamon? I was expecting it to have some heat to it (I mean, it is TX) but it had zero heat. It was good, but wasn't the best sandwich I've ever had and probably would have been a lot better with a kick of spicy bbq sauce. The okra was nicely fried and not soggy at all which is a plus! My husband liked the brisket tacos. He said they had a bit too many onion straws so it was hard to taste the brisket so he picked those off. The cowboy fries had good flavor (and the jalapeños on them were super hot which we liked). My sons steak was cooked perfectly! He said it was very tender which is great. Overall, I would say this place is pretty average. If you are trying to decide between this place or another restaurant within the Stockyard, I would probably look at other options. Like I said, it was good but I wish we had looked at reviews first as some of them are pretty spot on with mine. Especially the other reviews about the fried pickles.
