A really quaint, cash only, country diner in Shadow Hills. Basically north west of DTLA up in the valley. Inside is fairly large with many different size tables so they can host many different sized groups. One thing I love about these sort of places is the service and this spot did not disappoint. Our waitress was extremely polite and everything that we ordered came out super fast. There is a small free parking lot attached in front otherwise free street parking is also easy to find. I love how eclectic it is on the inside, every inch of the wall is covered in a collage of American memorabilia and various different things from various different places. It's really fun to glance at all of it while you're waiting for your food. As you would expect the menu is very large and filled with all sorts of diner classics. For this breakfast, I chose the Chili Cheese Omelette and really enjoyed it. It was a large sized portion and had some great flavor to it. The coffee is also really strong and I was a big fan of that as well. I would definitely recommend if you are in the area and make sure to bring cash. read more

First off: cash only! Didn't know that so I had to get money from the ATM. It was busy but not overly crowded. Sat down wherever we wanted. Service was quick and friendly. I got the Spanish omelette while my partner got dueces wild. The coffee was watered down and my omelette had some veggies but not enough to be an omelette's worth. The salsa from it was okay, just felt like bell peppers, onions, and tomato juice. It needed some seasoning to it. The beans were lackluster in flavor and my rice was stale. The dish was disappointing. My partner's mom had a different omelette with the potatoes and some of the potatoes were a bit undercooked. A few weeks ago I was supposed to try this place with a friend but couldn't. So we finally got a chance to try it today. Family owned open for 23 years, this little gem in Shadow Hill is amazing. Walking in you don't feel like you're in California but in some country side in the south. Shadow Hill is a horse town so it's definitely giving the south. Anyways I digress... I got the steak and eggs with a muffin on gravy and my friend got the country fried steak with pancakes. We also got sourdough bread with butter on the side. Emily our waitress was very nice, sweet and attentive and so was everyone else. From the time we placed our order, it didn't take long when we got our food. The food was cooked to perfection and tasted fresh. I will say they had a pretty good selection for breakfast, that also included Mexican/Tex mix breakfast. We will definitely be coming back to try their lunch. If I had to rate this place it would be 9 out of 10. If you're in the 818 area please be sure to visit this spot. Side bar muffin and gravy so good and the pancakes were amazing they were so fluffy and the syrup was delicious not too sweet. I enjoyed being here once before. I had a hankering to go back. Finally I got the chance today. I usually only drink black coffee until noon, and lately have only been eating one meal a day, so I really miss breakfast. Anyways, the wife and I dropped in about 11 am. The place was about 3/4 full. You seat yourself, or wait at the counter (I had forgotten about that from last time when we went with my wife's cousin and his wife), and they will tell you/seat you. My wife had eggs and bacon. I chose eggs and sausage. A big plus is you can choose between toast, a pancake, or a biscuit and gravy (one of my favorites). My wife had the pancake and guess what I chose? The waitress served our drinks (coffee) right away and helped my wife to decide between a side order of onions rings versus zucchini sticks. As she mentioned, you can get onion rings anywhere. The sticks were thinly and evenly battered, texture was perfect with a tasty seasoning. BTW, it comes with not two, but three eggs. While we waited I was admiring everything on the walls. A picture of George Strait, a sign that said,"This ain't Denny's", shout outs to LAPD and LAFD, and items too numerous to mention. Our food arrived in a reasonable amount of time (I had noticed about three or four other groups had arrived about the same time we did). Everything was as good as I remembered. I also enjoyed the country potatoes with bell pepper and onions, versus hash browns. We enjoyed it very much, settled up, and left. Important: CASH ONLY. We can't wait until our next visit. These sorry suckers tried to brag about it, so naturally the rest of us had to go see what the hype was about. Let me tell you -- they were right. The vibe when we walked in was instantly cool. The décor gives this cozy, homey, but fun feel. The staff? The girls working there were amazing. Their personalities were contagious -- super friendly, funny, and just genuinely great people. They handled our group of seven without any hesitation. Accommodating, attentive, and on point the whole time. Now the food... TOP. TOP. NOTCH. One of the guys in our group ordered the ribeye steak and eggs, and they kept offering him more food -- biscuits, pancakes, you name it. He couldn't stop talking about how the pancakes were "1000% delicious." That's a direct quote. And he doesn't talk like that about anything. Everything we tried was fresh, flavorful, and made with care. No shortcuts, no "meh" items. Just straight-up amazing breakfast. Terrible experience at this establishment. I wish I could give it 0 stars but yelp doesn't give me the option. :\ This being our second visit. Upon arriving we were able to sit ourselves but we sat for about 5 mins and no one came to attend us or give us menu's. But as soon as a caucasian family of 5 walked in they were greeted with the warmest welcomes and were given menus right away. The rude waitress walked pass by us seeing that we had nothing if front of us and smiled at us while she handed THEM the menus. So rude and disrespectful! I love coming to Rise N Shine cafe. This is truly a family owned and run restaurant. It's has a country / cowboy theme. The owner is always quick to greet everyone, no matter how busy they get. As a rule of thumb when traveling I always ask where the local FD or PD go to eat and this restaurant is definitely on their list. It's not uncommon to see police or fire personnel enjoying their morning breakfast at Rise N Shine. The menu has classic American breakfast options but they also offer Hispanic options and as Mexican raised individual, I can confidently recommend their chilaquiles. Great breakfast cafe in the hills of Sunland. Unassuming corner cafe, great coffee, good 'ole American breakfast menu, no frills. Biscuit is buttery and a must get, pancakes are melt in your mouth. Their dishes are diner like and plentiful. I suggest getting here early since they do get awfully crowded and there's nowhere to sit while waiting for a table. Bring cash - yes it's cash only. Having breakfast with a friend, This place has the best pancakes and their French toast is really delicious too, I usually will order the Western Omelette and instead of country potatoes or hash browns I usually will order the tomato slices and sometimes I get a side of avocado. This morning I ordered the hamburger patty and three eggs over easy and the tomato slices and coffee and my friend Dave ordered the corn-beef hash with country potatoes and rye toast and coffee, both our meals with tax was $43.70 and so I paid $50.00 to include the tip. We waited patiently and eventually got sat down. I kid you not we didn't get our orders taken after 30 mins. We are Hispanic family and just the feeling of being not taken care of because of our background sucks. The waitress had mentioned to me that she was going to come by and take our orders she served us coffee but that's literally it. Then two big white families came in after us and got seated right away and got their orders taken all within that time span. It's upsetting to see that being done right in front of your face. It's a slap in the face. I tried keeping my composure but I eventually told the waitress that why weren't we being taken care of!?! And why were the other families taken care of before us when we were here first? WTF!!! Anyways she apologized and I think her apology was genuine. I will give her the benefit of the doubt. Our food was delicious and everyone enjoyed every bite! My veggie omelette was tasty. All breakfast came with either toast, pancakes or biscuits and gravy. The children loved the pancakes. My daughter ordered the rib eye steak and eggs and she raved about it the whole time. We also loved the decor. The ambiance was like being in a country. Felt like we were in another state like Texas or something. It was so cool and relaxing. Now we know where to go after going to the shooting range. Highly recommend if you are in the area. Truly a hidden gem! On my way out to arizona or even coming back home to Bakersfield- we no longer head to Dennys or Ihop! We find a way to always come here, it's a must!
