Food: My boyfriend and I both had the R.C Burger-homemade Texas chili, jalapeños, hickory smoked bacon, sautéed fresh mushrooms, Swiss and cheddar (menu description) GIVE ME THIS ANYTIME! Babyyyyyyyyyyy this burger was JUICY and it belongs in the food hall of fame for delivering a punch of flavorful goodness in each bite. We had lunch on a Saturday and it was not too busy. Parking lot is kinda small if driving a big truck or SUV. We were able to get backed in after a little maneuvering. We walked up and greeted promptly. We were take. To a seat. Our Waitress took some time to come over. We order onion ring apps and 2 burgers. I asked for a hamburger as I do not like cheeseburgers. When mine came out it looks like they forgot and added cheese then scraped it off. I took 2 bites and my stomach turned from the cheese. I took it apart and yep there was the cheese remnants. That is horrible what if I had a dairy allergy?? The Hubby said his was ok. The burger was the frozen/prepackaged style that lacked flavor from the bites I ate it was just bland. Overall it was not the way we remember from years ago. We use to eat at River City several times during our stay, but definitely not this time. read more

Went here on Wednesday September 25th 2024 with my family as part of our South Carolina Vacation. We needed a bite to eat before heading to the nearby alabama theatre to see the show there. We decided on here because they have a patio by the water. We were greeted and immediately taken to a table. We wanted to sit by the water, and the host sat us near the water and sort of near people. luckily we were able to move and have a server know where we are. We sat down, table was a bit, dirty as it had lettuce spilled on the bench of the table, but i took a napkin and cleaned it. Our server came, and was very nice. He made sure to check on us, and make us happy. He even refilled my dr. pepper without me asking! We got 4 waters, i got a dr. pepper, and a peer punch. They also have cocktails like mixed drinks and margeritas. So the menu is much of burgers, sandwiches and a few salads. It sort of reminded me of a Red Robin because they had plenty of speciality burgers. For appetizers, we got boneless bbq wings no sauce, the bbq on the side, and fried zucchini. The Fried Zucchini i very much enjoyed, as well as the wings. For entrees, I got the Nacho Burger with sweet potato fries and coleslaw, my dad got the philly burger with onion rings and coleslaw, my mom got the bacon crunch burger with fries and coleslaw, and my aunt got a regular burger with fries and coleslaw, and she also had my coleslaw as i didn't like it. I'm like that with any coleslaw though. I thought the Nacho Burger turned out delicious and was very enjoyable, and stuffed with chips. My dad wasn't a big fan of his, but ate it all, as did the others. Check came in a timely manner, paid via credit card and left a cash tip. Let me start by saying i went in and ordered to go. I called about 3 times, they Never answer the phone. I sat at the bar while my food was made. Maybe 25 mins. The service almost had me leave before i ordered. Took maybe 5mins to notice my 6'5 self standing there while making awkward eye contact with random servers. Someone finally took my order. Server was very nice. In fact everyone was once they spoke to you. With all of that being said. I'd give this place more stars if I could the cooks were an absolute vibe! Music going everyone cheerful and grinding out food. I ordered the blackened Mahi sandwhich with fries and Cole slaw (had raisins in it?) everything was beyond great. I knew it would lookijg at the main cook. My boy was organized and had this food seasoned properly. He earned this 5. We also got the bacon burger and my 9 yr old who won't finish a mcdouble ate the whole thing and said it was the best tasting burger she's had. I havnt been here in years because of the wait but we got lucky this year by going later in the night. We showed up for dinner after a late afternoon movie around 8:00 and only had to wait 5 minutes. We ate inside, which I have never gotten to do before, and it a a super fun mess! We each got a burger...which was so fresh, delicious, and tasty! We also shared a fry. I thought maybe there was something on the burger like vinegar. I took another bite and realized it was spoiled. I had two people taste it just to be sure. The server took it away. We have been coming here for years today was the worst service we had ever had. Our waiters name was Buck, he seated us, took our order brought us. Our food never came back to check on us and never came back to refill our tea. I had to go up to the register to get a T refill, and when I did, he hand me my checkout receipt that is the rudest thing ever that you're that lazy you cannot come to my table and then when we did go up there to check out, the other waitress could not get his attention because he was continuously talking and eating french fries. I talked to the manager and told him that we did not have a good experience. It was the worst service we had ever had. My daughter is a waitress and we tip very well and I was not giving him a tip so if you do go here, sit in someone else's section. read more

Update 5.11.23 Very good burgers the jalapeños burgers is really good just a little spicy and the bacon cheese burger as well both have tender meat and the pier punch is really good. We like to stop in whenever in town for a good burger. Onion rings are also good but sometimes they are hit or miss occasionally they are way to greasy. read more

This was a second choice stop after our first choice had an over two hour wait and quite frankly it was one of the best things that could have happened. River City Cafe is a local "chain" with 2 or three locations. This review is for the one we went to since it's the only one we've been too. The restaurant is simultaneously nothing to look at and a gem when it comes to appearances. They have a few picnic tables outside and inside they have several tables that could easily turn into a wait. We stopped in an hour before closing and didn't have to wait at all. The walls are covered with license plates which is typical around here, but what makes it special is all the writing...everywhere. They give kids crayons, and our server even gave our 8 year old a sharpie, and let them loose. Our son wrote his name on his chair, one of the license plates and even the window we were sitting next too. If anyone goes sometime soon and sees "Rowan Uwa" that was him. The food is as special as the restaurant itself. They're known for their burgers and it's not hard to see why. My 8 year old just got a plain cheeseburger and he gave it a 10/10. I tried on my big boy pants and got the kitchen sink burger. It's two patties with tons of toppings between two grilled cheese sandwiches. It's definitely a novelty but the melt on your mouth beef was the star. It's definitely not just their burgers that are good though. My wife got the "big dawg" which was a hot dog with chili, cole slaw, onion and mustard. The hot dog itself was great and the toppings complimented each other well. My older son got the chicken tenders and he said they were delicious. Their fries are good, salted well and fresh. The bloomin onion was good, if you like Outback's you'll like it. I actually like their petal sauce better at River City. The one point of contention in the meal between me and my wife was their slaw. I like a sweeter cole slaw, but it was a bit too sweet for me. Ironically my wife doesn't like sweet cole slaw but she loved the slaw here. It's definitely great on a hot dog. All in all this is a great restaurant that I highly recommend to anyone in the area. They have a few cocktails but it's definitely more of a family friendly environment. We spent under 100 for appetizer, 4 meals and our drinks (my wife even had their "wedge" cocktail, another recommendation) so price falls a little on the cheaper side than a lot of places here at the beach. read more

Came on a Monday evening nearing 8PM. There were lots of people loitering around outside. Went in to add our name to the waiting list. We were told to expect about 50 minutes wait time. Within less than 15 minutes, I received text message that our table is ready. There's parking structure behind the restaurant and few spots are reserved for guests, so parking is a non issue. Can't say the food is good though. We ordered the Grouper Fingers. The platter came with 4 thin, fairly small and super duper salty fish fillet. The breading was fine, nothing to complain nor rave about. I'm also not a fan of the World Famous Onion Rings either. Each onion ring is HUGE and THICK, but the breading has no taste and so does the onion. There's no dipping sauce either. The Jalapeño Bacon Jam Burger includes something that makes it sweet rather than savory & spicy. Oh...this place doesn't have Oyster. Someone else posted an image of raw oyster for this place and perhaps it made Yelp includes this restaurant when I searched used keyword "oyster" read more

I think you'll find the River city Café a fun place to go. The decor is conversational. The staff works very hard and are very efficient and friendly. And the food is OK. Two of us went for dinner last night. One of us got the continental burger. Burgers seem to be the more favorable choice here. I ordered the blackened grouper Reuben. My colleague, thought the continental burger was just OK. He prefers a choice of cooking preparedness, but was not offered a choice. Well done it is. The grouper Reuben sandwich was toasted, stuffed with a good amount of grouper, and a light amount of dressing. I did ask for extra dressing and our server bought it immediately. Overall, the sandwich was OK. I found it to be pretty salty. You do have options for side alternatives with the grouper, but a salad is not one of them. The server suggested the sweet potato fries and those were terrific. We both had a side salad. Both were good sized with plenty of fresh veggies around. We both chose the avacado ranch dressing. These places are what I would imagine a Margaritaville place being but isn't Distinctly laid back, in a deliberate manner. We ate 2 lunches in a River City, the first one was just north of the 501, with numerous l9cense plates all over. The second one further north on 17, between 2 large hotels. Both were outstanding BURGER JOINTS! Prices were comparable to anything in the area. They both had a certain planned easy going atmosphere. The burgers were better than average and fixed as we requested. The fries were 'real' not the frozen kind. The service was very good also.... To be honest, I could think of several people I know and have known that would never deliberately walk into a place like this, but it suited us just fine.. I had burgers both times, just fixed a little differently and she had a burger and some fish the 2nd time. Will be looking for the locations next time we visit read more

So off we went on our 2nd day. this was the one on Dick Pond Rd My son gut the Buffalo Chicken sandwich, Wife got the BIG ISLAND BURGER And then i got the CONTINENTAL BURGER. Now i want to say something fist about this Restaurant as there are a few in myrtle. The staff that works there are AMAZING. we was sat down so far and they were fast with refills and everything. Even talked to us and made us feel like we were not tourist. Back to the food My burger was topped with egg and it tasted great burger was not overcook and had GREAT flavor. my son loved his buffalo chicken sandwich. he did say it was a little hot but he liked it. My wifes Big island burger was Well lets just say ive never tasted a burger like this when i tried hers and OMG it was by far best ive ever had. Now skip a couple days this place was so great we went back again before we headed home. And me and wife got the big island and son got the same as well. yup we will be going back as once again it tasted like it did first time. Came here during Thanksgiving weekend with the fam. Super yummy! Had the veggie burger and it was tasty! You can get the veggie burger on any of their specialty burgers which is so cool if you don't eat meat. The fried cheese curds are out of this world super yummy and a hint of garlic.
