One star off as I know it is their thing to be a dive bar, but sitting at the bar waiting for a table, watching the kitchen- the staff were all great! The kitchen needs to be renovated and made more modern. Shelving is out of date. The cord (I am guessing) that goes to the attic looks like a big piece of dust hanging from the ceiling. The kitchen aesthetic was just off. The sticky floors and tables, etc. Not great, but River City lives off of being a dive. The plastic waste is ado so bad for the environment. Came here with the family after a stroll at the beach and looking for a fun experience for dinner. We were seated on the screened in patio, which was very fun and a nice way to enjoy the weather. The decor is very funky and fun and the picnic table seating with paper table cloths was a fun way to keep the kids entertained with coloring (and the adults ;)). We enjoyed peanuts as we waited for our order and our server was a young lady that was very friendly, helpful and funny. I ended up ordering the surf n turf burge and really enjoyed it. The burger was delicious and the topping gave it that sweet tang from the sweet chili sauce. Their sweet potato fries were very good and she brought their avocado ranch that she recommended to go with them. Their slaw was also good with the raisins in it and not too overly mayo based. The burgers were good. We all enjoyed our meals. We ate here twice during our stay in Myrtle Beach. Sat on the patio during our first visit, ordered take out on the second visit. The wait was about an hour at 7:00 PM on a Wednesday. Once we were seated, server was quick to check on us and take our drink orders. Concern with the restaurant was the wait for the food. It took over forty minutes to get our burgers after we placed order with our server. We suspect he might have forgot to enter the order. They just plain forgot to give us our order for take out. Food was sitting in window. It would have been longer if I didn't go check on our order after waiting 30 minutes. They wanted me to leave with the order, but the fries were cold. We ordered their house margaritas and burgers. The drinks came within a few minutes. The burgers took almost an hour. Waiting in the filthyness wasn't too bad. Place itself is not one I would go to on any normal day because it's very touristy, peanut shells on the floor and kinda dingy. We were seated pretty quick for a party of 11 but squeezed into 2 tables so it was extremely crowded. When we asked the hostess about adding another table next to us which was empty, we were told they had a lot of folks on the list and could not accommodate despite the fact that the table sat empty for the next 30 mins. Decided to try something close to our condo. We didn't have to wait very long but the place wasn't very clean, and it can get super cluttered with a lot of people. Our waitress was super slow and so hard to find. We placed our order and she barely came back, then she messed up on one of our orders. The place makes me think of what I imagine the funky little shack from The B-52's Love Shack song looks like. lol it's definitely little and funky but I like it. I had the Swiss Mushroom burger and it was so good. You know you have good cheese (and a healthy portion of it) when you have that nice stringy pull when taking a bite. The onion rings are massive and while they were good, I personally would prefer smaller rings (but that's just me). The cole slaw was meh and I think it was the raisins that threw it off for me. The hubs got the Bacon Jalapeño burger and felt it was one of the best burgers he has had in a long time. The fries could have been crispier and lacked any real flavor. River city cafe is super laid back and it's exactly what we were looking for after a long weekend of being at a cheer competition. The place is covered with license plates and just about every inch of the place is covered in names from visitors. It was our 2nd time here and it was fun finding our names from the last visit. We were greeted and seated right away (it was early afternoon on a Monday) our waitress was pleasant and attentive. We ordered the blooming onion as an app and our drink were free frills. Our waitress was busy with other tables so she didn't notice our app was sitting in the window, I did since I was facing the kitchen. There were other staff behind the counter doing "busy work" and not running the food. The older gentleman behind the grilled noticed I was watching and told one of the guys to run the food. He came right over with it & The bloomin onion was hot and crispy. Few mins later our food was brought over which had been sitting in the window with our app ( I also saw that) we ordered the Philly steak sandwich with onion rings and a side of fries and chicken tenders for my daughter. It was average but the onion rings were great. The fries weren't crispy, I should have asked for them well done. Over all it was good and it has a great vibe. Just note if you have a peanut allergy beware. They have peanuts out in a box and the shells are on the floor. Next year we plan on visiting the one on the beach. read more

we dined here multiple time's on our vacation since it was right outside our resort. All time's we were able to get sat immediately and had excellent service. Burger's are good, and you have plenty of options to choose from. Chicken fingers were fried perfectly, the avocado ranch dressing that came with it was delicious as well. So, on a genuine review, I've grown up eating at this place ever since I've been as little as a toddler. Each and every time me and my family came into this place every year when I make it to Myrtle Beach for vacation, was always a good time. I even had my first dinner with my promised-ringed girlfriend here, and I even met her in person for the first time, HERE. This place holds a special spot in my heart. The food is always hot and on-point with it's delicious burgers or wings, and don't get me started with the fries. Heaven in a bite. The service is super nice. Yes, slow, but I have more than enough patience for this place. The servers are super nice and one of them has a really great sense of humor. Some of them even remember me from when I was little, which still makes me smile to this day. Ambiance? Boy, the ambiance here is amazing. The TV's, decorations, all those sharpie writings everywhere, it's all great. Yes, it may look dirty, and I may have a bias for it, but it's still such a nice place to visit because it's so fun. Overall, personally it holds a special place in my heart. I'll be coming here again and again, even when I'm 10-20 years older from now. Cya this summer. read more

I had the kitchen sink burger and it was hyped but no delivery. Grilled cheese bookends were a 4/10, the burgers were a 5/10 and the chili might have been a 6/10. The best part of this was the giant onion rings which were very breaded but very good. Got a side of sweet potato fries which were actually pretty good though. Bacon ranch burger was average. Kids burgers were average. Adult cheeseburger was ok. The hotdog was at best a hotdog. They had no draft beer, the margarita was very heavy on the mix, the pina colada was meh, and the wine was a mini airplane bottle of barefoot in a plastic glass. As for service, our sever was walking away from our table before we could even tell her everything we wanted, she was very disinterested and didn't seem to want to be bothered. read more

This was an easy and convenient spot from the hotel. We were seated right away and chose to dine on their outdoor deck. The waiter was great but we couldn't miss the peanut shells all over the place, which we assume is a thing as that is an on-the-house appetizer, but it was ridiculous. I ordered the grilled onion cheeseburger. It was good but the onions must have run out because there were barely any on the burger, but they did substitute with a whole bunch of pickles on it. The drinks were in these small cups- especially for the alcohol drinks. The highlight was the big... waterbugs, palmetto bugs, roaches whatever you want to call them running rampant. My husband brought it to my attention and I'm glad he did because that would have let out a yelp for sure! There was one we kept our eye on coming up the umbrella to meet his relatives who were peering down at us- can you imagine eating and one of these big things falling in your food!!! We asked to move, some of the other guests looked like they were familiar with the guests but that's their business! We came here because it was listed as one of the best burgers in Myrtle Beach. But we were disappointed. We asked for medium burgers, all were extremely well done. Heavy on the black pepper. We had the cheese lovers, the OMG platter and the Texas chili burger. Cheese on the cheese lover's wasn't even melted. Requested "extra crispy almost burnt" onion straws for the Texas chili burger, and they were nearly raw (see picture). The OMG platter was crazy but pretty decent. Onion rings are literally 2 giant pieces of onion. The atmosphere is ok, there was a large table of very very loud kids behind us which made it hard to carry on a conversation because it's a small place. The pros are the service.
