On the surface one may judge this location at a rough and tumble, without polish. Our experience was early evening on the outdoor patio, flowering greenery, with an energetic upbeat knowledgeable staff. The staff was accommodating with a member of our group's food allergies and the menu was appropriate for the environment. I can recommend the green chili as excellent. Ate here for the first time. My friends and I ordered the 50 pieces of chicken wings (BBQ and dry rub). The dry rub has kind of a sweet taste to it and it tasted amaaazing, but after eating a lot of it consistently, I started to get sick of it because it's so sweet. The BBQ wings was ok, I'd stick to the dry rub. The wings are served in these buckets and they are HUGE and we weren't even close to finishing them. They are complete full sized wings- drumstick connected to the wing so in actuality, we had 100 regular sized wings for 4 guys lol. We also ordered Totchos which is tater tot nachos. One order of this can feed a party of at least 4 so don't order sooo much like we did. The food were all delicious. One of my other coworkers took on their Jiffy burger challenge. I was told it was 3lbs of hamburger meat covered with Jiffy peanut butter in a burger form with bacon, tomato, and lettuce on a good sized tray filled with a pound of curly fries. The challenge was that he was to consume it all in 30mins. It's only a $16 challenge. If you lose, nothing, if you win, you get it for free plus a $25 gift certificate for the next visit that's if you don't have a heart attack after eating this. Unfortunately, my coworker failed. I love to eat and I can eat a lot, but I knew by looking at it, I wasn't gonna beat this because of the bun and fries. I know there's a technique to eating this, but look, I'm from Hawaii and cheap food places like this are unheard of in Hawaii so I wasn't trying to beat a challenge, I just wanna enjoy my food comfortably, but one day I will return lol. It's an old school-looking wooden bar with some history to it. There appears to be some nights with entertainment because there are apparently bras stuck up on the decorations in the ceiling lol. I don't remember her name, but our waitress with blonde hair and a nose ring was very nice and provided excellent customer service. The manager of this place was very nice too and has one of those epic voices that belong on a radio show lol. The parking lot is huge and there are a lot of table and chair to sit at including a bar. I've been here before, and liked it, but I had never tried the pizza. I really don't even remember pizza being on the menu. It is, and it's worth a try. Before going, you need to know that this is a "Meat Eater" restaurant. Almost everything on the menu has meat in it, but there are some vegetarian options, and almost nothing vegan. The focus of this restaurant seems to be its chicken wings which aren't like any others I've seen anywhere. They're big, like they're using the whole wing, and not cutting it into pieces. My wife and I met friends there, checked the menu out ahead of time to try to find something for us to eat, and we found the pizza. As you might expect, they offer several specialty pizzas at good prices, but all of them contain meat. You can, however, "build your own," and that's what we did. The base pizza by itself wasn't that expensive, and then any toppings you wanted to add were only $1.00 each. That's much less than any other place we've been to. When we got the pizza, it was good-sized. I would guess 14" or larger. It was big enough for two or three people. It was a thin crust pizza, but not too thin, and not too thick. It was just about right. The crust had a good, fresh taste with no aftertaste, and all of the toppings - the sauce, the cheese, and the toppings we added had a good, fresh taste, too. I'm pretty sure they used "fresh" mushrooms, too, where some places will use canned, or bottled. Anyway, the pizza was cooked perfectly, and it was delicious. It was as good as any pizza I've had anywhere else at any price. I would definitely go back for their pizza. If that's not enough, we wanted a salad, too. As with the pizza, all of the salads had some kind of meat on them, too, but they did have one Dinner Salad without any meat. It was like $5.49, and I thought it would be a little, tiny salad. It wasn't. It was not quite as big as a salad that one would eat for a dinner, but it was pretty close. It would be easy to share this salad with another person. The salad, too, was loaded. It wasn't just lettuce, and dressing. It had cukes, tomatoes, onions, and other veggies. It was a nice salad, and the housemade dressing was excellent - tasty without being overbearing. To top it off, they had draft beers for as little as $2.00 each! Two of us had the pizza, one salad, and three beers all for under $25! Try doing that anywhere else that isn't fast food. Someone on one of these comments commented about the "smell." I cannot comment on that because we ate outside on the good-sized, comfortable patio. There were also comments about the parking, and I don't know why. This place has a huge lot just to the South of the restaurant. It's a dirt lot, but there's plenty of parking just about all the time. The waitstaff was friendly, helpful, and accommodating, too. She was quick, accurate, and attentive without being annoying. Good help is hard to find these days, and this place has at least one, good waitperson. I definitely will put this restaurant on my short list, and I am definitely coming back. It may have been a fluke that the meal was so good, but it was good enough to make me want to try it again, and to recommend it to others. read more

*Plus size review* This place is huge and they have really good food. There are lots of drink options and a full menu. One of the bathrooms closest to the bar is more of a tight squeeze than the restroom in the back room. The big stall in the woman's restroom in the back room even has a fireplace in it which is kind of bougie. Practically all of the bar seats are cemented into the ground and those stools don't move. The booth tables are all wooden and snug.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] However you do have the choice to sit on a bar stool with no back at one of the tables. I found myself getting uncomfortable on the bar stools after a short period of time which then inspired my friend and I to leave and go check out a different spot. A-ok place with pretty good fish and chips. They currently have a Friday only special where you can get fish and chips for $7.95. It is not on their menu but I called ahead to see if they in general had it on their menu and found out about it. It was nice and crispy on the outside, but soft and moist on the inside. I normally don't use tartar sauce but I liked theirs. It really hit the spot. They had happy hour prices on their Coors and Coors Light on-tap and bottles, but I went with my standard Blue Moon Belgium White with an orange. Very roomy and we ended up leaving before everyone got dancing, but there was definitely lots of room (and lights and music) to dance your heart away. Their big parking lot was a gravel, dusty lot and was filled to the brim, and in front they have a handful of spots in a paved area. Nice they have lots and it was great for them they were filled, but we spent some time until we found a spot to park. Servers were nice and accommodating. There are a couple of pool tables and a foosball table towards the back. If we are ever back in this area again we may just have to stop in again! read more

Great place we stumbled onto accidentally on our way to Crested Butte. Donna was awesome. She was entertaining and knowledgeable. We went for lunch on a Sunday and the food was not good at all.. my burger was over cooked (burnt/dry), bun was very dry and burnt, pizza was undercooked and slimy, we also got tots smothered with green chili and everything was soggy and tasteless. The service was not bad but it was not great and they took forever! I heard this place had good wings and we got two buckets and they cost $60, they were decent but there are many more places to get better wings for a better price. This place is rather rough around the edges, but still has quite a bit to offer. We dropped in for a couple drinks and a quick bite on a sunny September afternoon. It was too nice not to sit on the largish patio. We found a place with a bit of shade that was mostly out of the smoker drift pattern. The craft beer selection was decent. I did experience the issue of where you order something they are out of, and after waiting 10 minutes for your beer, they finally tell you this, so you can start the process all over again. When the beer arrived, it was cold enough (but not by much). Our waitress was friendly, and eager, and a touch forgetful. We ordered some wings (half Asian and half of the 2nd hottest). I didn't think the Asian ones had a lot of flavor; mostly soy and margarine. The hot ones were not that interesting, but did bring the heat. They deep fry the wings here, so that is definitely too my liking. If you are looking for a visually appealing and artfully presented wing, this is not the place. Ours were served in plastic Coors buckets (like a gallon of ice cream would come in). They give you the whole chicken "arm" here; from shoulder to wing tip. You then get to separate this at the joints and eat what you wish. It is a bit messy and I am not that squeamish, but my friends who dislike "chicken meat on the bone" would have been horrified. The celery and carrots were okay (not uber-fresh), and the ranch was a touch runny. We also split a side of chili-tots. These were a heap of deep-friend heart killers, but were pretty tasty. They would not allow us in the bar because she was under age regardless of the fact that she wasn't going to drink. This was our first time trying this place yesterday. While the history behind it was neat and the eclectic decor was interesting, despite bras hanging all over the service was not good and it was very slow. The food was not good and came out luke warm at best. I ordered sliders and asked for 1/2 beef and 1/2 bbq pork- thinking I'd still be getting 4 sliders. The server said nothing and brought out 4 of each, so I had 4 plain burgers with bun that were cold. I expected the cheese and grilled onions but no. Also the 4 cold bbq sliders. My daughter had a cup of broccoli cheese soup, it didn't come with a spoon so she was eating it with a fork. I will not return. read more

Let's just establish a communal baseline for Rock Rest. Rock Rest is a biker bar, not a fine dining establishment. It is everything I want when I'm looking for a dive bar with good unhealthy food. We ordered 20 wings, which are served in a massive bucket. The wings are the whole wing, flat and drumsticks connected. So you basically are getting double the number you order. The base Louisiana hot sauce doesn't have much of a kick so I recommend kicking it up a notch if your looking for a good burn. As expected at a bar like this some of the patrons were enjoying the waitress outfits a little too much. Just embrace it and take it as a fun people watching experience. I took away a star because it sucks that the patio is smoking. When we were there the tables around us were chain smoking which was a buzz kill on our meal, we'll need to be more selective in the table we choose next time. read more

The only food I recommend eating here is the wings. I've been here over three times and I decided to write a review now because I don't believe I can boost up the stars. All the food is very basic. Nothing special. If you like wings, just know you are getting the ENTIRE wing, they don't cut them in separate wing and leg. You must ask for extra sauce or you might be disappointed with how unflavored they may be. We also question the cleanliness. We only order bottled beer--nothing from the tap or anything that could be from the ice machine. Service is very iffy. My mom ordered ribs and she specifically asked about the spice level and the waitress indicated not spicy. Welll, the ribs were dry, tough, and were SO spicy should could not even eat them. We told the waitress and she did nothing to accommodate us. We asked for the manager and a guy from the kitchen came out and he was also not going to accommodate us; we had to suggest something to him! Ugh. I've been a waitress my entire life. Every time I come here, the service is awful. My friend and I sat at a table at about 9:00pm. The bartender would not come over to us - I don't know why. She would literally look over at us and never came over. I finally got frustrated bc we are thirsty and walk up to the bar. She goes "Yeah, What do you want?" I said, "I want some service!!!" In many ways this is a themed bar. The theme? Country western meets old diner meets biker bar haha nonetheless, the vibe in here is very casual and it's clear this is a locals hot spot. If you've read any of the reviews you'll know to order the small portion of wings since they're full-size, on the bone. Not a lot to choose from in terms of drinks and your cocktail will likely be a well liquor but, this is a fun place to enjoy country music, each some tasty bar food and watch them pull the rhino's horn for more beer. I recommend the curly fries... I don't know what they do to them here but they are freaking delicious. read more

A funky little place to have a good time drinking and eating. Came here for my wife's office Christmas party and we had a great time. Not a huge selection of beer but what they had was good and not overly priced. The food was your typical office party food. Lots of fried stuff for apps which was all cooked well and crispy. The dinner was wings, ribs, nachos and pulled pork sandwiches. Again, all was cooked well and tasted great. Beer was tasty and not overly priced. Love that they carry Coors products instead of AB/InBev. Just wish they offered some more local and independent beers from the area. Service has been really awesome for me at times but there was this grumpy blonde chick who was working at the back bar this last Saturday night.. and she was the rudest person. Drinks were $4 total I thought it was $2.. took out a $5 to compensate and that woman snatched up all $7 as fast as she could after ignoring me and serving every man around me, in knowing that they would be buying regular priced drinks. I'm fairly certain this place is a biker bar/ hip hop dancing bar hybrid. By day it's a sweet little place to eat wings and hang out with any sort of crowd. By late night I think you need to come ready to bust a move. Nick and I came here for some dinner before a concert at Red Rocks because I had heard they have tater tots and I have decided it is my destiny to sample all of the tater tots Denver has to offer. I really like the bar's atmosphere. This place is huge and there are a few separate areas like a pool table room, a back room and the patio. Everything is wood and there are some strange paintings and animal hangings for décor. You get your drinks from the bar and your food from the kitchen window. I think someone else compared it to the Dark Horse and I can see that similarity but this place is much bigger and brighter. I ordered the infamous wings and could only finish 2 out of 8. Well, more like 2 1/2. But, that's because I'm happy to say I ate a shitload of deliciously prepared tater tots. These aren't fancy, just regular flavor, but they are oh-so-crispy and that's all that matters to me. With tons of beers on tap (even a fancy one Sir Nicholas ordered that took about 15 minutes to pour), inexpensive prices, and friendly service it's easy to see why the Rock Rest is a favorite of lots of people. read more

I've mentioned to my friends that curious pandas may probably get nuked one day, and that came here with Rock Rest's 4-pound Peanut Butter Burger Challenge. Basically, if you can finish a big burger laced with several days' worth of peanut butter and a plantation's worth of curly fries in 30 minutes or less, you'd get the $12 meal free, your picture on their wall, and a $25 bar tab. A great way to make some new friends if you prevail. The burger also has four 1/3 lb. patties, four slices of cheese, eight strips of crispy bacon, and your usual burger veggies. A dill pickle spear is placed on top of the burger, and all held together with a skewer. Roughly 2.5 to 3 lbs, I'd reckon. It's a pound of COOKED curly fries. I thought I read somewhere that since the uncooked potatoes lose water when fried up, it could amount to four pounds of uncooked spuds. FML. At other places I've been to, their version of a pound is nowhere near as large as Rock Rest's portion. Yay for a very large greasy and heavy food-porny challenge! Only 5-6 people have won to date. A woman reportedly finished in 9:24. WTF. Must be a competitive eater. For the record, the food was insanely awesome. The fresh beef patties were cooked perfectly, very juicy and seasoned well. Initially, the fries were a sexy golden brown. The peanut butter oozed out of that burger and blanketed my favorite meat crack (that'd be bacon, folks). Admit it, peanut butter-covered bacon is foodgasm material. Then flavor fatigue and heaviness (especially from the peanut butter) set in. The Cinderella-like food transformed into very ugly stepsisters. I mean, we're talking a trillion times worse than WWE's Mae Young here. My pace slowed to an agonizing crawl for the last half of the challenge. I never got very full, but left about a quarter of the burger and maybe less than half the fries. Ugh. I guess it's respectable for deciding: "let's do this for no other reason than to defile a spicy panda!" (I even put up a video on my YouTube account: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7RUVhpKIYs) The staff was great and I loved the decor. For $12 you can't beat the price and the quality. Heck man, that challenge could feed 3-4 "normal" people. Admittedly, I goaded my friend into doing a couple of spicy challenges the previous few days. This was basically his revenge to get maximum entertainment value. I know he's now happy and laughing at me for this stunt. You're welcome. Don't worry, I only took ten gigantic leaps closer to heart disease. Speaking of my sadistic friend, he got some delicious-looking mozzarella sticks and really loved them. He also tried some of my burger after the challenge was over and enjoyed that as well. Somehow, I would like to see him screwed over on a food challenge...don't know why. We decided to celebrate my son's college graduation at Rock Rest. What a disappointment..... we had a group of 12 people. The waitress chased me down at the bar and told me she would take care of us... Well she didn't... she was horrible. We hardly saw her after the wrong beer and food was delivered. She added an mandatory 18% tip which she barely deserved 10%. Food was average but it was really the poor service that soured the experience. Upon arrival, I couldn't help but feeling as if I had was in the old west, with the building looking like a rustic log cabin, animal heads on the wall and occasional cowboy hat. [however, if you come around dinner time = biker bar. 9pm ish = dance club] This place references all three different feels equally! 2. The staff is all primarily women, who are quite attractive. Most wear short shorts, low cut tank tops and happily sport a smile. They were very attentive, prompt and friendly. 3. With a bar full of CO beers on tap, for $4.50 a pitcher, what more could you ask for? 4. I came for dinner in celebration of a friends engagement and let me tell you, the bbq is outstanding. perfectly brushed chicken breasts, pork and wings were delivered and to die for! i'll always be a fan of southern comfort food [being a southern girl] so i munched it all up! overall, this place is super unique, different and a place you must try before you die! :) read more

Unbeatable Food) -Good Patio -Great Service (Bartenders are spectacular and waitresses are spot-on) -Good TVs for the 'Big Game' (They are numerous and are always willing to change the channel to something else). My first experience having Peanut butter on my hamburger anywhere. It was good actually. Writing about it makes me want to have it again, soon. We sat outside on their patio on a Sunday. Their was a live band playing, mostly to their friends that showed up. They did not have an organized set, they just played whatever they felt. Just an additional bonus while eating my peanut butter burger. Their service is sub-par. Even when we were inside, the bartender passed off all responsibility of ordering, even with an empty bar without customers. Well, I take that back, there was that local town drunk that was extremely needy sitting next to his full PBR watching NASCAR. We ordered through the kitchen window and had an interesting conversation with the "half-there" cook. I took it in as their Rock Rest Lodge "atmosphere." The type of atmosphere that comes along with their large cabin feel, biker bar image or a honky-tonk personality. I sometimes forget the differences between Denver's dive bars and the surrounding mountain or suburbia dive bars. I enjoy them, but I am also a paying customer and would like decent service to go along with my meal. Without comparison to other places, Rock Rest Lodge must have been on break when my girlfriend and I were there. But, back to that peanut butter hamburger. Yes, that was good. read more

I love this place. . Julie the bartender rocks! She makes a delicious Bloody Mary. Wasn't sure what to get to eat and she recommended I get the wings. I wanted 12 but she assured me six was more than enough.. Glad she suggested I only get six because I could only eat 4. They aren't your typical little legged things. The wings came out quickly and were very tasty. Granted it wasn't very busy at 3 in the afternoon but Julie made me feel right at home. This is a unique establishment with a lot of personality and charm. Hats off to the hiring manager. read more
