Last night (Saturday, 8/18), was here for a meet up group. I did not eat anything here so I will not comment on the food. The atmosphere is definitely a laid back, casual setting. They have a big back room where there's a dance floor. They had a special for ladies night, $1 drinks for coors light and any smirnoffs. They had a DJ and he played music from the 80s to now, so it was a good mix. The crowd coming in was definitely younger after 10:30ish. Definitely a place to check out from time to time. Do not step foot near this place if you are a person of color. Wish we would've read the reviews on here but we stopped in randomly to grab a quick bite and the outside looked fun. Big mistake. My partner was stared at with dirty looks the entire time. One of the employees has a huge noose tattoo on his neck. I've been here a couple of times and each time service has gone downhill, this time being the worst it's ever been. I came here with my family and we sat ourselves like the sign said. No one greeted us, we just got stared at once we managed to find a table and sit down. We waited for 20+ minutes and non of the servers came to our tables despite there being multiple on the floor. We could've probably been there all afternoon and no one would've bothered going to our table. Arrived at the front entrance, no one was there to seat me so I sat myself outside on the patio. Three different employees we obviously working patio with only 4 tables full of customers. After 25 minutes of employees walking by me, even bussing a table right next to me, no one spoke or interacted with me at all. Fortunately one employee had a shirt on that said "staff" on it to make sure that I knew I was being ignored. This is a fun joint to go to when in Golden that isn't subject to the downtown golden parking issues. A Burger and beer joint for the most part that has outdoor seating and potentially a fun bar (I went at noon).. The building is made of River Rock and goes back to the 40's era (guesstimate) and the only downfall- which is happenstance is the traffic noise on the side of South Golden Road....But it really doesn't impact the experience all that much. Looked this place up online, seemed like a good spot for lunch on a Monday! My boyfriend and I were excited to come here after we looked up places to eat near Red Rocks and saw that this place was well-liked and had outdoor seating. We walked through the front door and looked around a little bit (clearly had never been here before) but were not approached by anyone that worked there. I walked up to what appeared to be a pair of employees to me (a male server leaning over the bar talking to the female bartender) and I asked, "where is the host stand?" To which the male server replied, "uhh there isn't one...." I have worked as a server and a host at many restaurants, so in my opinion there are a myriad of problems with this situation. 1. Guests should be greeted within several minutes of arrival (sometimes it's even nice to get some sort of direction on what the next step is, since we clearly looked like we hadn't been there). 2. If there is not a host stand, it is customary to tell the guest they may seat themselves. 3. The male server had an attitude with me that conveyed I was stupid for not knowing this (I'm pretty sure you can live in Colorado and not have been to every restaurant there...) It was as if my asking this question was a nuisance to him and inconvenienced him and his conversation with the girl. We sat ourselves outside on the patio (menus were already at the table) and waited to be served.... About 10 minutes went by, before we decided to get up and leave. From a former restaurant employee point-of-view, this was a terrible 15 minute experience. I could understand this lack of service if it was a busy Saturday or another busy day; but it wasn't... I stopped by with my family, as we have as often as possible since we moved to Golden in 2015. Went to our same table, played pool on the same table we always have. We NEVER got a server. We use to love this place for to go hotwings. It is in no way a kid friendly environment, so we always did to go orders.( And they were always so nice an accommodating for any to go orders). Over the last 3 weeks the management has not been able to get it together to order enough boxes to fulfill ANY to go orders for wings. Worst yet... they are nothing short of totally rude when you ask if they can accommodate you in any other way...say smaller styrofoam boxes that we know they have on hand!!! I have no idea what happened to their customer service... Maybe they have just succumbed to the "treat you like shit", dirt bag bar attitude. Great food especially the wings, but there's always a lack of consistency. We just ate there the other day and asked for a specific beer special they had. The server said they were out and we took the closest thing on the menu. They rang us up for both the beers we drank plus the ones they didn't have. When we asked her to change it she rolled her eyes. The following day we noticed they swiped my boyfriends card twice. Once for the right amount and then a second for the extra beer we never got. As someone who works in customer service you're trusted to do the right thing with the customers card not swipe it additional times will especially for unauthorized purchases. If you read 17 great reviews about Frasca, go there and have a server who is obviously not happy to be there and makes your experience less than it should be, you will be disappointed at all the 5 star reviews. 'Sure the food was good,' you'll say, 'but the service was shit.' For this reason I try to look at each meal and each establishment with as much of a level head as possible, but sometimes a place gets past my "bias defenses." The Rock Rest Lodge is one of those places. Had a number of people told me it was the most amazing bar ever, I would have been sadly disappointed at the self service, the dim-witted bartender and the not-fastened-to-anything flyaway umbrellas on the deck (we had to dodge three of them while we were there). I could have easily written a 3 star review. But because I found this place by accident... I loved it. I went in with zero preconceived notions about the service or food quality. ACTUAL REVIEW: The food portions and quality were great... and at the price it felt a little like I was robbing them. They have something like 36 beers on tap, including Barmen, a rare treat for me. The baked beans were good. The croutons for the salad were home made. The pork sandwich was cook slow as were the ribs. If you love BBQ like I do, you can tell when it has been handled with some care and when it was thrown together to please the masses (cough... I remember Bryan M telling me about this place when the Elite met at Alta but of course it slipped my mind until someone in "talk" mentioned it again. Well the stars aligned because my brother took us up here tonight. He used to work in Golden and said that this was the place for wings. Now I had wings on my mind. The room looks like a big a$$ed western bar with lots of wood and a huge dance floor (complete with the aforementioned dancing pole). There's a small window into the kitchen with an unlit neon sign above it that says, "Order Here". There were five of us so we ordered 20 wings ( I figured that would get us started), a rack of ribs, an order of sliders, fries, tater tots, and a BLT? We grabbed a pitcher of IPA and headed out onto the large deck and waited for the food. Not much later it arrived, the wings in a beer bucket full to the top. You don't get the drumette and the two-bone as separate pieces, you get the whole shabang from drumette to tip and they are as large as everyone has been talking so 20 pieces here is like 40 anywhere else and these puppies were big. I grabbed a rib first and it was large and meaty (not enough smoke for my liking but still pretty good). Then I had at the wings. They are killer good. We got the medium hot and it was just that (although my brother's girl friend must have got a hot one because one was enough for her). This isn't just a louisiana hot sauce butter mix, there's more flavor and heat on these wings. This would be a great place for a big gathering or party or just someplace to hang on a weekend afternoon. My unofficially adopted son Kevin had a craving for hot wings, one of his favorite foods, and I realized I had never brought him to the Rock Rest. I myself had only been here once before, several years ago. This turned out to be his favorite of all the many places we've ever eaten, so I know we'll be back. It's a surprisingly quick drive from Denver. I was concerned when we arrived because the place was so parked up; I thought the crowd would be huge. Fortunately the Rock Rest is huger, because there was plenty of room, seating, and service -- and parking spaces, too. This is a funky, quirky dive bar with a great patio, a big dance floor in the back room, and a large, diverse, and interesting menu. I ordered 20 wings, planning ahead for wings to take home, and we ended up with 13 left! These are big, meaty, full wings instead of individual wing joints; so an order of 20 runs about 5 pounds. Extra hot was a perfect choice, lots of nuanced flavor, not killer hot but a firm reminder of what "hot wings" is supposed to be about. Kevin likes seriously hot wings and said he is not tempted at all to try the "gringo killer" version offered here. The extra hot hit the spot. The wings come with a nice amount of impeccably fresh celery and carrot sticks, and the blue cheese dressing is full of -- gasp! -- blue cheese. The tater tots were piping hot, delectably crispy, and kept their flavor even when they reached room temperature (which they did only because an order is a very generous basket full). The total for all that food was just under $22, a great deal. Thirty taps of premium draft beer -- good, interesting beers -- in addition to taps of ordinary domestics which are very inexpensive during happy hour. Wow. I tried a Batch 19 (okay) and an excellent Tommyknocker Maple Brown. Kevin had a cola which was only $1 with free refills. Impressive. Some of the reviewers of this place don't seem to get the service plan: Go order for yourself, pay in advance, and then sit and wait for your food to be brought to you. Same with the bar; walk right up. The bartender was really friendly, attentive, and efficient. Not showy like those yahoos who toss the bottles around, but she was literally fixing drinks with both hands and turning them out very quickly. (You can wait around for table service if you want. Sometimes it's super fast, sometimes it's slow.) The music was very cool and not blaring like so many bars; we could converse with only a little added volume. It was modern, not country, but I don't know how to categorize it beyond that. The menu offers lots of tempting options -- the peanut butter bacon cheeseburger is reputedly awesome -- but it's going to be awfully hard to pass up those wings. Stopped here on a recent trip to the area. The outside really caught my eye, and the inside just as awesome. There are so many neat things on display. But the food was even better. Best ribs I've ever had- and the wings WOW. I'm from Chicago and I've never seen wings the size of your face. These are Texas sized wings!!! And they taste as awesome as they look. I've heard how good the wings were here, I mean...Food Network showed up here because of them. So I come with high hopes. It all went down hill from there. First the server couldn't get our drink order right. We both ordered a pint of Coors Original, and she brings us PBR. Ok, not a bad beer, but not what I ordered. Then, it comes time to order the wings, and mind you, we have never been here before so have no clue what they are like. I order 20 wings thinking that should be good for 2 people. Half an hour later (Wings should only take 5-10 minutes to cook) They show up and HOLY COW these things were HUGE. One wing is the wing AND the drumstick, so it's like getting 40 wings. They were pretty good, don't get me wrong, that's why they get 2 stars instead of 1. But the server should have told us that maybe 20 wings might be too many. That would have been the right thing to do. So they screw up the drink order, take forever to bring out the food (and we went at 3 in the afternoon, they weren't busy) and didn't mention to us that perhaps 20 wings would be a bit too much food for only 2 people. We went for a 21st birthday party, with reservations and rented out the back room with the stripper pole. The pole was vacant all night until a guy in my group was dancing on the platform. He was on there for maybe a minute and a bouncer comes up and violently two hand PUSHED him off the platform!!! Didn't say anything to us about why he shouldn't be on there, no warning, no signs that guys shouldn't be on the stripper pole. Apparently it's against the rules for a guy to even near the stripper pole. My friend was then pushed to the floor, things then began to escalate even more. Management failed the manage the situation which led to some of the party leaving and vowing to never spend money there again. Rock Rest should be ashamed of their staff and don't deserve fun customers. STAY AWAY. I wouldn't even give this place one star. Managers name was Doug McClair and bouncers name was Nick. Nick wouldn't give us his last name cause he knew he was wrong. This was on Saturday the 10th around 11:30pm. Ps. This place has a stripper pole and Saturday night is $1 drinks for ladies. They play pop and hip hop and there's a dance room (obviously where you can find me at all times)as well as a more casual sit down bar area with brighter lighting and arcade games. I picked a fight with a guy at the bar and got him kicked out in order to fit in more with the crowd here.... jk but that really did happen. The crowd is actually all ages not just drunk Mines kids. I mainly went here to check out their wings. And all those other people were right - they serve some damn huge wings here! It's the drumstick and wing together, with the tip still attached. You get 8 of those in an order! I couldn't get over how huge they were. And they tasted good! They were super crispy (which I love in my wings) and the buffalo sauce was so nice and tangy. We also got some onion rings, which in theory I should have liked, but the beer batter had been fried on there a bit too long so they weren't as chewy as I like. They were simply all crisp. Their sliders were just a bit sub-par. I just don't think they were really trying, but they will pass for bar food. Flew in from out of town to see Primus at Red Rock. The clerk at a local hotel recommended Rock Rest for a burger. After a quick trip to a dispensary, I stopped in the lodge for a burger. First thing I noticed was every waitress I saw was smoking hot. I don't know what's in the water in Golden Colorado but all ladies should drink what those ladies were drinking. After ordering my burger and tots I realized doors at Red Rock opened at 6:30 when I thought they opened at 7:30. Panic ensued because I didn't want to miss any of the show so I asked my smoking hot waitress to pack my burger to go. 5 mins later I was on my way burger in tow. The Hamburger was seasoned well and cooked perfectly. The perfect ratio of juicy and greasy that makes a great burger. I had to eat it with 2 napkins wrapped around it to keep from wearing it. Tots were also cooked to perfection. Next time I'm in Colorado and need a burger I'll stop back in the Rock Rest Lodge. Did I mention the waitresses? read more

We've driven past this place a couple times and it always looks busy so we thought we'd check it out. If you're looking for a dive bar, this is your place. The walls are covered with Old West decor and there are bras hanging off much of it. There's even a stripper pole for those who want to twirl. The place had a dingy smell on the inside. The restrooms were in dire need of a face lift. One toilet was out of order, the tile on the floor was broken up, and the stall door wasn't secured. We ordered wings which came in a big bucket and the wings were whole wings, so you had to rip them apart. The sauce was good. We got plenty of food for what we paid for. They provided styrofoam plates to eat off of. Yeah, the food was good, but I kept thinking about the odd sights and musty smells around me. The service was ok too. read more

Credit card theft with no consequences? ...the service was horrible, so I left the waitress a $1 tip. When I reconciled my bank account, the total for my lunch was $3 more than my copy of the receipt stated. I called the manager to let him know their waitress helped herself to my bank account. I heard nothing for 4 or so hours, so I called Jeffco Sheriff to ask what to do. It's a felony to change the tip amount without customer permission. He went to the restaurant to talk with the manager and when I called the manager to find out how he would correct it, he yelled at me for calling the sheriff. What kind of manager sticks up for a thief and yells at a customer for trying to get a problem resolved? BUYER BEWARE. Pay with cash, because there is a good chance you'll get into the same situation. They returned my $3 and didn't fire the waitress. read more

Not happy with this place at all. Food was subpar at best, pizza crusts are a premade product (we know because the server said so), and was super tough to eat. Cheese sticks weren't too bad, but fried pickles were obviously from frozen. Chicken on our pizza was tough, salads came out wrong. We had a huge party, but we called ahead and had a room rented out for us. However, service was awful! We were there for close to three hours from sit down to leaving, and most of that time was spent waiting for either food, or the waitress to just bring us a refill. One of the few places where they have traditional style buffalo wings! I hadn't been here in almost 10 years and it has been way to long. I love this place... During dinner I heard some great hip hop, punk country and even some 90's ska stuff. The atmosphere is defiantly chill and my son learned about "root beer pong" lol as they has a skiball style beer pong table there. As for the food my wings were a lil dry as I like them saucy but still had good flavor and coming from a guy who normally eats 20+ wings at bdubs and 15+ at hooters I couldn't finish sharing 8 here. When I think about places that I hold near and dear to my heart, this is definitely one of them. I adore the Rock Rest. Everything from the patio to the mixed up bathroom signs makes me happy. I swear I can come her every night of the week and have a different experience, and it is always a good one. Some nights lend themselves to dancing, some to pool, and others to just relaxing on the amazing deck. That's why I love it here--there's something for everyone. The drinks are always okay--I don't think they are that special. But the food? I love it. The wings are absolutely amazing. The burgers? Delicious. And for those moments when I've been drinking a bit more than I maybe should the peanut butter pizza is absolutely incredible. They also have super good fried pickles. Honestly, Rock Rest feels like a place you'd see in a movie. or a TV show. A cool unique spot where my cast of characters (aka my group of friends) spends a lot of time. It is a lot better in the summer than in winter because of the patio, but that's not something any of us can change. My only issue with this place is that the DJ won't play Taylor Swift. He says he can't play country and yet he played Cotton Eyed Joe? I'm sorry, but that is unacceptable. I'm kidding of course, but I don't see why they hate on T- Swizzle so hard. ;) read more
