Not a Michelin restaurant by any means, but my partner and I eat here almost weekly. The staff always seems busy, but it's always a pleasant experience. We have the same order every time, to the point where they know what we want before we even finish ordering. (A lesser human would be embarrassed by this, we are not.) I only took away a star because this restaurant is not super consistent. The spice level changes depending on who's in the kitchen and my dish often looks different from week to week. That being said, I have NEVER had bad food from this restaurant. (And the one time they got my order wrong, they had it remade by the time I got back to the restaurant and let us keep the original food.) read more

I just moved from Alameda and sold my car. My options for the city and peninsula food I grew up to go to is now limited. When it was raining the other week, I was craving a hot bowl of soup and came to Rose Garden. The service was quick, the staff was efficient and the food felt like a hug. Ordered delivery which arrived very quickly. Food was ok but way too sweet for me. Even the West Lake Minced Beef Soup was sweet (and too thin)! Overall quality was ok but I likely won't return to this restaurant. Shrimps with scramble egg was my favorite and the only thing I might order again. Fried Crab Cheese Puffs (8) was ok. On the sweet side but expected, but there wre really large chuncks of undercooked onions. Broccoli beef was a little tough. When I worked in an office building near Bayfair Center, this was my go-to Chinese lunch place. I would get a lunch plate to-go and eat at my desk, but I could never finish all the food in one sitting, so it became either dinner that night or lunch the next day. And every time I came in, the same staff were there, working hard and offering a smile. I left that job almost 10 years ago, and have only been back a handful of times since. My most recent time was on the Lunar New Year. Instead of getting a lunch plate, I ordered dinner for my wife & I (which I had never done before). Due to COVID, all the chairs were piled up and the tables pushed to the side. I walked in and saw that all the staff were wearing masks. I ordered the Seafood Dinner for 2 with an additional order of Szechuan Beef. Since the total was more than $35.00, the staff person offered me a free appetizer or chow mein (I took some pot stickers). 20 minutes later, my food was ready. Our bags were filled with: Fried Prawn appetizer Pot Stickers (complimentary) Seafood with Tofu Soup Sweet and Sour Prawn Salt & Pepper Fish Szechuan Beef And 1 Snapple (didn't order, but they must have thrown in anyway). My favorite dish was the Szechuan Beef, which is battered and fried with a mildly spicy sauce (no vegetables needed here). My wife really enjoyed the Salt & Pepper Fish (also deep friend, but not sauced). But everything we had for dinner was delicious. And as expected, there was more than enough food for 2 people, which will last us the entire weekend. Despite all the problems that the pandemic has brought, it's nice to know that businesses like this are still around serving the community (and,yes, the same staff are here, still smiling). read more

One of the few Chinese restaurants that was open on New Year's Day but let me tell you the Beef Chow Mein was the best I've ever tasted. I have eaten from other places that served the same thing but my problem was that those places overdone on the vegetables when serving up their entrée. Not Rose Garden they modestly add the vegetables in there and give you more noodle and beef. For the portions you get you can feed 2 people or you can have lunch and dinner for yourself. According to the pictures, this looked like it was going to be a nice place to sit and dine. When we got there, there wasn't any parking, only street parking if you're lucky so we had to turn around and wait for other people to leave. After finding parking, we walked into the restaurant, and it was like there was a heat wave inside. It was so hot, no air-conditioning or fan blowing we decided to sit down and order food, and we asked for ice water, but God only tapwater with no ice. food is OK. Food is salty and I'm sure there was MSG. Ice cream we decided to take the food home because it was too hot so we asked for the check and we asked for boxes. We paid the check with our credit card. After signing the receipt, the lady said; "what, no tip"??? We usually leave cash tips on the table, but how dare she ask for a tip like that? That wasnt cool. I wouldnt return to this place. I wouldnt recommend it either. Hope she enjoyed her $1 tip. Dont ask stupid questions like that. You probably wouldve gotten a $10 tip but we didnt like how you asked for the tip. read more

"Cheap Chinese" food that is good, is hard to find these days. And let's face it, it isn't cheap anymore! That said, I keep coming back to Rose Garden because their food is always good, they have fast delivery (and the food is always hot), and even though a meal for "two" is $40+ delivered, we always have leftovers for the following day. 2-3 meals actually makes it a bargain! We keep trying other Chinese restaurants, and regret it every time... Rose Garden is our go to! read more

As soon as I got accustomed to the elevated service everything went topsy turvy here. During our last visit the food quality was mysterious and extremely unappealing. I cannot swear to it but I firmly believe we had someone's leftovers added to one dish. In total the food was so off putting we vowed never to return again. This is a personal disappointment because everything went crashing down at one of favorite reasonably priced establishments. My bf and I have struggled to find a good chinese restaurant and we're glad we finally found one. Definitely making this our new go-to. We ordered the orange chicken, pork fried rice, and fried chicken wings. No complaints and everything had flavor and good taste. I cannot stress enough how many times we've tried a Chinese restaurant only to be sourly disappointed and wishing to get some of that East coast chinese food. My husband and I have been ordering + eating at Rose Garden for about 6 yrs now. Last night we ordered the chicken chow mein for take out and when we got home, there was shrimp in it. We are allergic to shrimp so we were pretty upset about it. We called the restaurant and the owner was very apologetic and offered to remake our order and drop it off. We have always loved their food, chicken chow mein being our favorite, but after that encounter we love their business even more. I tried this place last week for the first time and come to find out my grandmother frequents the establishment. I only had the potstickers and the sizzling shrimp soup last time. Both were very good. Extremely fresh. Quick service and clean establishment. This week I tried the Kung pao three combo and the sweet & sour chicken. This is my new favorite Chinese spot hands down. Once again the service was quick. The lady taking orders is always sweet, patient, and pleasant and she works very well with the cook in the kitchen. I must state that I hate giving businesses low stars but I was so disappointed in all of the dishes that I just had to share as I had high expectations after everyone else's reviews. Honey walnut prawns are dense in batter and some strange orange sauce (I am used to white sauce and much lighter batter). They were probably the worst ones I've ever had. I switched to the shrimp chow mein which was mushy and overly oiled. There was only one shrimp after eating 1/3 of the to-go container. Mind you I was starving after a 12 hour shift. I gave up on my meal and will probably throw it out. My husband had the orange chicken and said it was very fatty. He also tried the chicken fried rice which was overly drenched in soy sauce and with very little egg. We didn't eat much of it very bummed out so much food will go to waste. read more
