I must state that I hate giving businesses low stars but I was so disappointed in all of the dishes that I just had to share as I had high expectations after everyone else's reviews. Honey walnut prawns are dense in batter and some strange orange sauce (I am used to white sauce and much lighter batter). They were probably the worst ones I've ever had. I switched to the shrimp chow mein which was mushy and overly oiled. There was only one shrimp after eating 1/3 of the to-go container. Mind you I was starving after a 12 hour shift. I gave up on my meal and will probably throw it out. My husband had the orange chicken and said it was very fatty. He also tried the chicken fried rice which was overly drenched in soy sauce and with very little egg. We didn't eat much of it very bummed out so much food will go to waste. read more

The lady working there tonight is super rude. Drove all the way here from Hayward just to be ignored. As soon as we walked in the lady asked if we were there for pick up, as soon as we told her no we were there to place an order she completely ignored us. Waited 5 minutes before we walked out. This is really sad because we never experienced this treatment from anyone else. The grandfather who worked here would have never treated us like that. I've seen some of the reviews here talking about a rude lady over the phone and I have never experienced rudeness here. It can be loud in the back so there might be yelling but you have to be aware of cultural differences too. I've been dozens of times and the people are always nice especially if you show manners. There was a mixup with one of my orders, the lady simply asked me to bring it back. I did and they had my order they didn't make ready to go and had me keep the original order and I just gave it to my dad. You can combine two of your dishes on one plate if you like which is rare for a Chinese place like this. Especially with the price you pay. At most Chinese places, you're honestly paying sometimes double the price for worse quality. My favorite is the chow mein and walnut shrimp combo. The man who works there is super nice. One time I ate inside with a friend and he brewed and poured us tea on the house. They clean their dishes and their woks after every meal the prepare if you're worried about certain things they may keep in them if you're vegetarian or avoid certain foods/meats. read more

Rose garden has great and fast service! My favorite dish is their combination fried rice (pork, shrimp, beef & chicken). It reminds of fried rice I used to get in Chinatown (Oakland) as a kid. They give a free item if you order $35 or more. I usually get the dried fried pork buttons as my free item. The black bean sauce fish is pretty good but a little salty. I accidentally ordered lemon chicken instead of orange chicken and I much prefer orange chicken. The lemon chicken was a bit sour and a sweet tangy flavor. Overall, this place has some items I enjoyed but didn't have the style of shrimp I like (shell/head on & non-battered). I give this place a 3.5 but round up to a 4. read more

We saw some of the poor reviews but they failed to provide the dishes they ordered either sighting bland flavor or poor quality but we were still inclined to try...and we are glad we did! Ordered from DoorDash, I did not get the correct items. Excited to get orange shrimp however I ended up with orange chicken. If I would've known that my order one of them completely different. My food took over an hour to come. The dried fried ribs were old and stale . The chow mein tasted like old grease . The curry tasted like milk and was literally dumped all over my combo plate making everything taste like it. I called and they didn't care at all about the food I received. Rose garden is the best Chinese food in the bay fair area. Great chow mein and fried rices. Priced right and they do delivery. This place is my go to anytime I stop off in San Leandro. It's alway chicken chow mein and Mongolian three. Their salt and pepper shrimp is good but it cooked with no shell. I guess it's just preference but it just looks much better with head and she'll on shrimp. Mostly everything I've tried here don't disappoint, and you can watch the chef cook all your food right there which is much more reassuring. read more

Thanks to our Yelper friends, we finally have found a great Chinese delivery for Castro Valley! We ordered Szechuan Chicken, Broccoli Beef, Chicken Won ton Soup, Crab Rangoon Puffs, Pot stickers, Steamed Rice, and they threw in a big portion of yummy pork chow mien. Very friendly service -- they customized almost every dish for our very picky preferences, and the service was so speedy -- we'd just barely finished ordering and the doorbell was ringing with our dinner. Everything was just as ordered, piping hot, and huge portions. Prices were very reasonable. I'm very fussy about won ton soup, and Rose Garden met my requisites: very clean broth, tasty but not too salty, nice greens, white meat chicken, perfectly plump won tons, with filling that is pleasant and not overly spiced. It is the perfect comfort food, especially for when one is feeling "deep inner chill." I enjoyed all the dishes except the Crab puffs -- they do have onions in them, and since I don't eat onions, the first bite just said "No - not for you." However, the others (who do eat onions) thought they were yummy. Hadn't had Rose Garden in years, and when I used to have it, it was always take out. So for the first time we decided to actually sit and have lunch here. We had the honey walnut prawns, which were the best thing out of everything that we ordered. My mother ordered the Kung Pao Prawns and steamed rice-she said she liked it. I ordered the Kung Pao chicken with steamed rice and it was ok. Like the other reviewers mentioned it is very Americanized and I think Panda Express is better. As far as I can remember, the only entree I have ordered was the sesame chicken and fried rice. We used to work across the street and or company would order a bunch of boxed lunches and we would split the cream cheese wontons. Fast forward many years later, I had a craving for the sesame chicken and it is still just as good! From the outside you can't tell but the food is good. It's a true hole in the wall type of restaurant. The owners are very friendly and the service is good. We ordered a egg flower chicken soup that fed 4 people and a child, potstickers which were house made, mongolian beef, schzechuan chicken, mixed vegetables that consisted of egg plant, bean curd, bell peppers. The lady that answered the phone and took my order repeated three times that the driver needed to see both my credit card and ID. Okay lady, I got it. I am who I say I am. Trust me, I have PROOF! Great food but dirty restaurant!!!!! The food is really good but I will strongly recommend not to eat at the restaurant. I went to eat there with my husband and my 1 year old. The place itself looks very dirty. I use a wipe to clean the table. It was no surprise when the wipe got so black from all the dirt on the table. It was disgusting. I gotta give them credit their food is really good but they really need to do some deep cleaning to their restaurant. I generally have them delivered but this time I decided to go eat there and I was very disappointed to see how dirty it was. This is my go to!! Food is good. Family owned so call ahead. I would not and have not sat down to eat. It's not that comfortable. You have to ask for fortune cookies and any extra sauce because they do not give them to you. (Things changed since Covid.) Their prices are reasonable.
