A group of us went to NOLA for a few days and had a number of really good meals. This was the best. I dont recall our waiters government name but he had a big personality and was a lot of fun. We walked up to the restaurant and didn't have a reservation-there was a waitlist and they told us at least 20 to 30 minutes. However, we were seated within 10 minutes which we really appreciated. We placed our order and the waitress who was very on top of it happened to mention that there was bacon with my pancakes and asked if I ate that which I do not, and offered me other options. I will say I can't wait for my next visit. It was 6 of us and we didn't have reservations. In 97 degree weather we decided to wait the 30-45mins we were told. Inside it was extremely crowded, but the hostess accommodated our group with 10mins. While sitting our waiter began to explain what specials we had, and he identified we were tourist. So he proceeded to ensure that our shots (which were single shots) were poured with love! The food was amazing, and the service was exceptional. There was a street musician who kept us entertained while we waited. So once seated we were greeted by the super sweet and calm (amongst all the chaos of patrons) that was so patient with us as we placed our orders. She was attentive and didn't make us feel rushed. She got our orders out as soon as they were ready and for the most everything was good. I got the spinach, mushroom and goat omelette, cooked well and pretty tasty. The bennies are phenomenal but, today we opted to try something else: cinnamon swirl pancakes for the hubs - whoa, huge and delicious. They were well balanced and super tender. I went with the shrimp omelette and they did not skimp on the shrimp. Mine was paired with grits & a gigantic biscuit with their take on butter. Neither of us were able to finish, though we both took several "just one more bite" opportunities after the forks were down. I would still recommend starting with bennies- ideally the peacemaker, where you choose 2 kinds on one plate. (VS the standard 2 on 1 kind on a straight order.) My husband, on the other hand, says you hafta try the pancakes. So, my solution, take a friend and share! We happened to stay near the Ruby Slipper when we visited New Orleans and we heard several times that it was THE PLACE to get breakfast/brunch - so we listened - and we were not disappointed! I ordered a house mimosa before I saw they offered a mimosa flight... which I had to order as well obviously - it was a boozy first half of the day to say the least, but such fun & unique flavors - worth it! There had been quite a long wait to get in (we get it, it's popular), so we were seated at the bar, but the bartenders ended up being so friendly and helpful that it made the experience that much better. I went to another location years ago, and it was a much better experience than the one I recently had. They have multiple locations, and we thought maybe this one would be less crowded than the other busier area ones. We were seated way faster than I expected, at the bar which was fine for us, and the server who took our order was not the friendliest. She could've been having a bad day idk. We weren't That hungry but needed to eat before a long day, so we decided to split something which didnt seem to go over well. We split the berry stuffed french toast, got fruit instead of bacon, and my partner got coffee. The French toast was good but nothing to write home about. I remember the portions of the more dessert entrees being bigger than this, and luckily it was easy to split between us separation wise. There was a thin layer of filling, 2 layers totaling 4 pieces of triangular bread. The guy working behind the bar was much friendlier and checked in on us. Later on after we left I got horrifically sick, and didn't eat anything that should have caused my symptoms. There are so many good places to eat in NOLA , no other place has ever made me sick, and it stinks because this used to be one of my favorites. Me and my wife stopped by for Breakfast where I had the butter milk pancake with scramble eggs on the side, the pancakes were over cooked and doughy and honestly trash and the scramble egg was a tiny portion. To preface this, this review reflects the service here NOT the food which I felt was decent. Of the 300+ reviews I have written, very few places have received a 2 star or lower rating for me, but unfortunately there were several problems with our service here at Ruby Slipper that warranted the rating. First, the reservation system: we checked in via Yelp and was quoted a 30min to 1hr wait time. In the subsequent text that you receive once you put yourself on the waitlist, there is no wait time listed. 40 minutes later, we received a text that "your quoted wait time is almost here". I responded that we still were interested in the reservation and arrived within 5 minutes of the text. I was told that we were late but that they would still accommodate us, which I appreciated. I asked what time we were expected to show up and was not given an answer. The hostess agreed that there was an issue with the system not showing the appropriate wait time. Regardless, she was friendly and overall I felt like this exchange was odd but was not too bothered by it. Next, we were seated at the bar. This is where I had a bigger issue. The bar was very busy understandably, and the bartender was friendly, but there needs to be a better system in place to track customers. There were not one but two parties who sat down after us and had their orders taken before us (in fact, had drinks and appetizers served before we were even given the chance to order). I understand waiting for a server to get to you when it's busy, but the fact that multiple parties who were seated after us were taken care of before us left a very sour taste in my mouth. Eventually, another lady (not even the originally bartender) got to us and took our orders. Afterwards, one of the parties next to us told the bartender they hadn't even actually ordered any main courses, just appetizers, and the bartender told them he had forgotten about them. Please request to be seated at a table, NOT the bar if you do come here! The food itself arrived without issue. I had the Chicken St Charles benedict and my friend had the eggs cochon. The chicken was nicely fried and seasoned and the biscuit had a nice texture, but the poached egg was overcooked through and through (no runny yolk unfortunately). The cochon had nice flavor and was not too salty which I liked. Overall, decent brunch food. I had high expectations for this place but unfortunately these were not met. I will not be returning to this location of Ruby Slipper due to the issues with the service. read more
