Every year around this time my wife and I like to get to get together with close friends for our annual Christmas dinner. Having looked for a new place to experience within a neutral area (easy for all of us to get to), our wives discovered Sage Bistro and we couldn't be more please with the entire experience. From the moment we sat down, our host Wanda was attentive, quite personable and funny as hell. The food selection was amazing and the quality was delicious. I myself had the duck breast with mashed potatoes and practically licked the plate clean. We will definitely be back to try more of the dishes and say hi to Wanda. Give them a try! read more

Sage is a fairly new Asian-run Italian restaurant, with a small interior and a short and straight-to-the-point menu. The staff was friendly and got our orders out in decent timing. We asked for the seared salmon salad with mango salsa, and cajun seafood pasta. The salad was sweet and sour - salmon was seared nicely and the mango tied the salad together with a fruity and refreshing kick. The cajun seafood pasta included a medley of shrimp, clams, mussels, salmon filet, and crab meat in cajun sauce and linguini. The soup base was lightly creamy and spicy and the seafood was delicious. The portions were just enough to fill two people. We also got a free scoop of strawberry ice cream for checking in on Yelp! I thought the price was a little steep for what it is, but I would definitely like to come back to try their braised beef short ribs. I came here on a late Friday night around 8pm with some friends because we saw that this was a recent Hot Check-in area on Yelp. Being that it was still around dinner time, we figured that it would be packed given that the reviews on Yelp were pretty positive and we were checking out the menu to see what suited our fancy. We found parking in the plaza behind the restaurant and walked over there and to our surprise, majority of the restaurant was half empty. There were only a couple people sitting around which we found pretty surprising. We got seated right in front of the restaurant and prepared to order since we had scanned the menu prior to coming. As we were listing the dishes we wanted to order such as Duck Leg Confit, they had ran out already.. and a few other dishes as well. Now I understand that this is a new restaurant, but being that it was only early Friday night, and they ran out of some of the dishes already, was pretty poor planning there I think on their part. They have been open for some time and should be fully aware of what dishes were their popular ones that they should stock up on a little more of. I think I ended up choosing from whatever they had left and ended up with the Chicken Farfalle Pasta which was just ok IMO. Another person in our group ordered the Pork Chop with mushroom and was eating about a quarter in before he discover someone's hair in it (possibly a nose hair?). He informed the owners and they quickly replaced his entire meal for him. I think overall, just from the lack of food options and having to choose from whatever was left on the menu and that there was hair in one of the food dishes, really kind of turned me off about wanting to come back to try again for the actual popular dishes. The free yelp check in offer was for a free dish of ice cream (which is not the best either because it tasted like the cheap Thifty ice cream) with slight freezer burn on it. This is a higher quality food establishment in the 626, it shows through the quality of the food, smaller menu, and slightly higher prices. I got the two most expensive items on the menu, the rib eye and the beef rib. Both were exceptionally cooked. The beef rib reminded of the Cafe Spot red wine beef rib, but with a much more delicious "curry/masaman" type sauce. The rib eye came out perfectly cooked, I suspect the sous vide their steaks as it came out quickly and had a uniform cook throughout. I can tell that they are trying very hard to make it in this restaurant biz as the owner and employees asked me how we heard about this place (yelp obviously) It's worth a shot for a different dining experience in the 626 read more

I alway pass by this place and checked the reviews on Yelp so I decided to try it for dinner on Sunday evening. The menu is easy to read and offer wide selection of items. Service is very good too. I ordered a delicious duck breast with mash potatoes and it was very delicious and moist. The deviled eggs are delicious with crispy seaweed as toppings. The mango ice tea is tasty except no-refills. My husband ordered braised beef ribs w/rice and extra side of Mac and cheese. Both items were delicious, especially beef ribs was tender and flavorful. I was looking for a place for lunch on mother's day and found this hidden gem. Even though it was Sunday at about 1 pm, there were only 3 occupied tables. (To be honest I hesitated after seeing how very little customers they had on mother's day, but decided to go in anyways. Veryglad I did )The ambiance is very relaxing, with soft music playing in the back ground. Service was great. Servers were attentive, their menu had pictures which is very nice. We decided on ordering the Smoked Salmon Bruschetta for starters. Also ordered the Shrimp Garlic Mashed Potato, Chicken Farfalle Pasta, and Duck breast. Food came about 15-20mins after we ordered. The food was amazing, the skin on the duck was crispy the meat was juicy. It is cooked the French way so it's pretty pink in the center but it was very good. The shrimp mash was very creamy shrimp was fresh, and the chicken pasta was well balanced, not too creamy or cheesey. I would definitely come back to try the other dishes. read more

Service: friendly team! The waitress made sure our waters were never empty and asked how the food was etc.. Very sweet Food: The jambalaya ($12) was okay. The spices were on point. Of course here I am comparing it to a Cajun restaurant so it's almost not fair but thought I'd give an honest review. All I tasted were raw carrots and overcooked tomatoes. Chicken pieces were over boiled as well. They should consider adding jumbo shrimp to this dish as the frozen shrimp just did not cut it for me. We are in the 626 and this is not bad for the area but I've tasted more legit jambalaya. I also tasted my dates duck platter ($12) which was good. Meat came right off the bones. Not a fan of the canned pineapples though and the random mushrooms on the side could either be a bit more truffled/caramelized tasting. For the prices they charged, I honestly did expect more. If I do go back it will be to try to ribs everybody raves about. Good start to a restaurant though! And again, great mannerisms! read more

Really wanted to like this place. Parked in the back at the parking lot. This place is located right next to Alondra Hot Wings. Came here on a Friday night, the place was half empty. The place is pretty small, its long in length. Probably, no more than ten tables. Got seated on the aisle... which, I thought was horrible especially how narrow the walk way is. You have to form one line to walk through. The menu is simple. Ordered the stuff chicken breast and the shrimp and chicken jambalaya. I even asked about the free ice cream when you check-in on yelp. Option on the ice cream: vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. Got the strawberry flavor. The place was not packed....yet we waited 30 minutes for food. How starving i was..... Finally the food came. Shrimp and chicken jambalaya.. was ehh. it was suppose to be spicy yet it was bland... and tasted mostly like tomato sauce all over the rice. This is was not my favorite dish.. the chicken was so shredded that it pretty much was mushy.... The stuff chicken breast on the other hand was pretty good I really like what they did on the outer chicken breast, they caramelized it. They stuffed it was spinach and some type of cheese which, I thought really was overwhelming. I enjoyed just the chicken breast without the stuffing. This dish does come with mashed potato and some vegetables on the side. The service was okay in the beginning. One of the server knows what she was doing as for the other two server they looked lost.... The guy server came over to my table and asked if we ordered the pork chop... Ha! I was like no... but I should've if i knew my food was going to take a while to come out. He even asked the table beside us if they want to order drinks when they already ordered their food and drink. I feel that they need to train their server better and also have a better arrangement on what server serve which tables. The girl server who helped us in the beginning was nice, she apologized for the wait on the food. But, I was irritated how they keep passing server... I wanted to leave after I tried the food. I wanted to get my free ice cream to go. I asked if that is even possible. One of the server said yes, but she needed to check my check-in, which I already did I said that I showed it to other server. But I was gladly to showed it again... but she left to pack my left over so, she asked the guy server to check my check in... he checked it. Like they don't trust me... seriously getting free ice cream is such a pain... I even saw the guy server grabbing the ice cream bucket to bring it in the the kitchen, it was the Rite Aid brand Thrifty Ice cream. It seem like the freezer is on the other side of the kitchen or something.... They gave me my ice cream to go, which was nice. But didn't give me a spoon.... I have to give credit when it's due...and they scored on our dinner! Service was excellent from the waiter and the runners. Vince, our waiter, was super friendly and introduced himself and checked back multiple times to top off our water and see how we were enjoying our food. Now to the food. I picked off of everyone's plate so that I was able to try a little of everything :) *Braised beef short rib was excellent. Fall off the bone status, and that sauce went so well with white rice! *The duck leg confit was also scrumptious, with the perfect portion size and the duck meat was perfectly cooked, topped off with yet another delicious sauce! *The rib eye was well seasoned and came with a side of amazing mashed potatoes. I wish they'd share with me what ingredient a they put in their mash....best I ever had. *Pork chop casserole was super tender! Desserts were solid: tiramisu and cheesecake! I came to celebrate my friend's birthday and we had a huge party of 20 people. Parking can be found in the back and there's an overflow parking in the back across the street. The owner was awesome and the waitress was so nice! I bought a nice big cake that the store was able to take and hold onto for dessert. The waitress was really prompt with our drinks but I wasn't too enthusiastic about it. I got some sort of fruit tea but it was a bit too sweet for my taste. Upon the recommendation of my friend I got the duck breast and I have to say it was quite delicious. The only complaint was that there was a tad bit too much sea salt on the duck breast itself. New Italian-French-Asian fusion family restaurant on Main in Alhambra. Like the previous posters mentioned, nice decor, great staff and service. The menu is very selective and priced between $10-16. There's a lot of seating available. Not the hours are odd as they aren't open on Tues and Wed. Its next to Alondra Hot Wings. I ordered the duck leg confit ($12). The duck leg is served with a red curry with pineapple chunks over it and a side a rice and grilled vegetables. The vegetables were nicely made with asparagus, mushrooms, bell peppers, and cherry tomatoes. It added color and texture to the plate and nice crunch. The duck serving size was a good. The duck was cooked very well- very moist and soft. It came with duck leg and thigh, wing, and another leg. It had a hint of sweetness and heavy and the curry was very thick and a little overpowering. Its good with rice. read more

Few months ago, we joined Sage Bistro delivery group via the Line app. Every 2 wks, they deliver to a few designated areas in the South Bay. Consistently, it's 5 stars in freshness & taste. Food arrives in to-go boxes as beautiful & full as pictured. No false advertising. Our family found a few favorites #4 seared salmon salad mango salsa, #5 linguini meatball, #7 chicken farfalle pasta, #8 cajun seafood pasta - like the kick, #18 cheesecake (!!!!) & the new A1 chicken cacciatore spaghetti squash - crispy squash, no carbs, yeah! One time, we had a small group event & ordered 16 meals. Wanda made sure all the requests (no sauce, sauce on the side, etc.) were honored. Event went smoothly, many were very pleased with their food & have leftover to take home. Timeliness of these long-distance group deliveries is very important to us. Sage Bistro has always been early & ready to go,100%. Comparing to most delivery groups, we typically wait in parking lots for an average of 10", sometimes up to 60-90"! Extra note on excellent customer service: Wanda talked to me on a minor issue - our cheesecake slice broke off during delivery. A month later, she still remembers & continues to follow up. Although it's only dessert, & even if it involved the entire meal, we are only talking about $40 here, $80 there, their keen interest in my family's experience proves my money was well spent! The first time I came here, I was very pleasantly surprised by the food. The duck breast was phenomenal and the beef short rib was also very tasty. We ordered the smoked salmon appetizer which was great as well. The food was worthy of fine dining but without the hefty $$$. With that said, the second time we came back and brought a friend, it was a completely different experience. Everything was WAY too salty, to the point where it was just difficult to even eat. The duck breast wasn't crispy like the first time we had it. We also ordered the jambalaya this time and it was mediocre at best. I was pretty disappointed since I was raving about how good the food was to my friend prior to going. I really wanted to like this place because it's right by my house and the staff is really friendly. This place completely exceeded my expectations. My dad suggested coming here after finding it on Yelp and although I was down to give it a try, the food on the menu didn't seem to be what I was exactly craving for dinner that day. However, I was genuinely impressed by how delicious each entree we ordered was. My dad ordered the duck breast, which was tender and slightly fatty and paired well with the balsamic sauce that it came with. My mom ordered the salmon, which came with this creamy sauce that was so delicious especially with the sides of potatoes, rice, and onions. I ordered the garlic shrimp pesto - I was blown away by how fragant the basil in the pesto tasted, as if they freshly made it themselves. The shrimp was also nicely seasoned, juicy, and very flavorful. I'd typically go for Asian food when in the area, but if you want some American/French inspired food, I'd highly recommend coming here. Restaurant isn't too spacious (the layout of the place is just long / narrow), however it can accommodate big parties - just be sure to make reservation. The place is clean and the service is great! Friendly and patient staffs. I ordered a Guava Iced Tea and the Cajun Seafood Pasta. The guava iced tea was okay ( i don't need to order it again for next time). The Cajun Seafood Pasta was really delicious. The portion is perfect for one person (although i wouldnt mind if they were to just add another handful of pasta). it had a nice mixture of seafood: three green mussels, a few baby clams, one chunk of salmon, 5 shrimps and a small handful of real crab meat all mixed into their sauce. The sauce was very flavorful, it wasn't spicy at all but the aroma of seafood combined with bell peppers, onions in this creamy pinkish sauce was so good. I had a sample taste of the jambalaya and i thought it was pretty good, but i had better. there wasn't a strong cajun taste to it. i also i had a taste of the duck breast and that was really good and tender. Portion is a bit small for these two dishes (jamabalaya and duck breast) but maybe order a dessert or appetizer to go with it for those who have a bigger appetite. i wouldnt mind visiting this restaurant again. as for parking, you can find parking on the street (if you're lucky), there's a public parking lot on 5th, they do have a few spots in rear, but the spots were all taken up and the spaces were really small. read more

PROS -personally i like small restaurants that make you feel at home (may be a con to others) -waiters and waitresses are nice -food tastes good (duck breast, cajun seafood pasta, salmon side dish) CONS -pricy food. each plate is over 10-12$ -very oily. i had a bad stomach ache cause of it. i have low tolerance for oil it may just be me (but did taste good) -food takes about 15-20 minutes (even when it is not crowded) -very small menu, not much to choose from Based on what i've seen TODAY, I would recommend this place. Mac n cheese side. 3 of us shared... not smart because it was done in 2 minutes. 2. Deviled eggs. Weird it had seaweed on it but strangely good. 3. Pork chops. Meat falls off the bones. I don't care for mushrooms but the flavor was so good! 4. Jambalaya. Little on the spicy side but I'm a fan of spicy. My friends thought it was too spicy but they're weak ;P. Had early Friday lunch and it was very good. We had ordered the stuffed chicken dish which was a honey orange glazed chicken breast stuffed with spinach, herb feta cheese, sundried tomatoes, and mushrooms. It was pretty good. Come support local, small businesses like SAGE BISTRO! We were so impressed with our take-out dinner entrees: 1) braised short rib, and 2) roast duck breast. Dessert was the tiramisu. We've missed the one California Pizza Kitchen made since they took it off the menu a few years ago. SB's tasted wonderful, creamy and enough flavor without being too strong. Roasted duck breast - 2/5 Overcooked, way to salty up the the point that I could feel my blood pressure was rising. The duck skin was all burnt. If I was still with my ex, she would complain and make them redo it; but we're not together anymore so I decided to man the fuck up and finished the whole dish. Stuffed chicken breast - 4/5 Sweet dish, everything was good except that most of the veggie was burnt. I liked this dish. Quick service since it's a small restaurant. This place seemed really yummy based on the Yelp reviews, and to some extent, I agree! We ordered based on what seemed popular: beef short rib & Cajun seafood pasta. The plating of the dishes made look seem very appetizing and almost had a Cheesecake Factory-like style. My first impressions of the dishes were both really good too! The beef short rib was very tasty and tender, but after eating it a while, because it was very fatty (based on the cut of the meat), there was a LOT of oil underneath the rice that the rib was placed on. We had to ask the server for extra rice because the rice that came with the short rib was swimming in lardy oil. Overall the short ribs tasted great, but the dish (including the ribs) was too greasy, so I probably won't be ordering this again. The Cajun seafood pasta was pretty good too! You can really taste the kick. I'm not someone who can tolerate even a moderate spice level, but this was spicy enough to be Cajun but not too spicy! They were very generous with the amount of seafood, with a lot of shellfish, shrimp, and fish. Personally, however, I found it a bit too creamy, which caused me to not want to eat it anymore after several bites. We decided to try the Tiramisu! It was a generous portion for $6. It looked really pretty, and to my pleasant surprise, was really delicious. I would've liked it a lil' colder though! Overall, this place is really good and very unique from most restaurants you'd find in the very Asian Alhambra area, but has its drawbacks. So, we were looking for some where new to eat in Alhambra on a random weekday night and came across this restaurant on Yelp. Had good reviews, the images were inviting as well so we took a chance on Sage Bistro and we're glad we did. Very quaint restaurant that I've driven by numerous times without ever seeing. We were greeted right away and given a nice table away from some of the other occupied tables. The menu was a bit limited but there were plenty of items on there that I would have ordered based on their descriptions and ingredients. Asked the server if I should order the duck or the short ribs, she said the short ribs were most popular and their specialty. I had seen images of both items on Yelp, both looked delicious but decided on the short ribs. Wifee ordered the chicken pasta. It did take a good 15 minutes for the food to come out but when it did we were quite impressed with the plating and quantity and they smelled so good too. The beef was tender and very flavorful and it came over rice with some sautéed vegies on the side. I asked for a little demiglace because it was really good. The rice was just rice, kinda wished it came over mashed potatoes or something, but still, the entire dish meshed and worked together. The pasta dish was really tasty as well, huge portion, aldente pasta and they didn't skimp on the protein, again, another solid dish. Ordered 3 dishes and 1 appetizer Smoked salmon bruschetta - 6 pieces great to share, pesto sauce on the bottom topped with a slice of smoked salmon and a piece of cranberry with sprinkles of cinnamon. $8 Braised beef rib- comes with mushrooms under a pile of white rice. Beef rib was very tender and flavorful with just the right amount of sauce and consistency. $20 Pan seared salmon- comes with sliced potatoes and mushrooms, hints of cherry tomatoes, and white rice. I liked entree the most because the salmon was cooked just right and paired nicely with savory potatoes and mushrooms. $16 Cajun seafood pasta- in a white sauce. Decent amount of mussels, shrimp (although it's not tiger prawn), clams, and 1 or 2 chunk of salmon served with a slice of toasted bread. $17 Lemon iced tea- free refills $3.50 Overall this place was delicious.
