Foods good, drinks good, good ambience. I'm not sure why making a reservation is difficult to be honest. Most people in the restaurant are well dressed. Ricotta pasta has a nice side sauce but otherwise didn't taste that special to me. I really like the roasted oysters that came with a special broth. Saint Theo's is a new restaurant that opened a few months ago and it definitely hit their expectation! It is also a sister restaurant of American Bar. It was really hard to get a reservation but we got lucky (on Resy by setting up notifications). Love the ambiance and the service was spot on. They provide complimentary focaccia which was nice. Beautiful new Italian restaurant with Chef Ashley Rath, who worked the kitchen at The Grill and Santina and more recently LaLou, so you already know the food is going to be top notch. And it was - starting with the amazing fluffy, warm focaccia, followed by great starters and all the pasta. I really wanted to order the Caviar with Burrata but it was $125, so we opted instead for a great Tuna Crudo ($26) and Beef Carpaccio ($26). For pasta, definitely try the "Cherry Tomato" ($22), a simple but perfect spaghettini with olive oil and basil. The "Ricotta" ($29) is also a good choice - a cheesy plate of gomiti, which comes a decanter of calabrian chili oil on the side that you can apply if you want some kick. I definitely want to return for some "Cicchetti", the section of small snacks, especially the Tramezzino and the Mozzarella en Carozza, but it all sounds good. read more

We were seated immediately, and the ambiance was great--we started the night feeling optimistic and excited to try this place. Mind you it's a Wednesday at 7pm so not packed. Our waiter came over to take our drink order, but since we weren't sure yet, I simply asked for a glass of ice water with lemon and some bread to start. His reaction was noticeably displeased. Without a word, he walked away, and after a long 15-minute wait, someone else finally brought the bread and a small glass packed with enormous ice cubes--no water, no lemons. I politely asked another staff member for some lemons and a proper glass of water. Instead of accommodating the request, he pointed to the other water glass on the table and said, "Use that," before walking away. Eventually, the lemons arrived, but I noticed that other tables around us had normal-sized glasses filled with ice and water. When I kindly asked another waiter for a larger glass, I was given the same tiny glass with the same oversized ice cubes--this time with water added. Every sip required me to awkwardly hold back the ice cubes to avoid them hitting my face. When our waiter returned, we ordered an appetizer, a pasta dish to split, and a glass of wine. Throughout the interaction, he seemed irritated, despite our politeness. After another 15-minute wait, we watched other tables (who had ordered after us) receive their food while we sat empty-handed. Eventually, the waiter returned to ask if we still wanted the appetizer and had my friend repeat her wine order--despite having taken it earlier. Another 15 minutes passed before anything arrived. Unfortunately, the food was underwhelming--lukewarm at best, and overall, a 5/10. The staff rushed us throughout the night, attempting to clear plates with food still on them. At one point, while dusting off the table, they even swept crumbs directly onto my lap. By the time we were handed dessert menus, we were so uncomfortable that we just asked for the check. As we left, it appeared the waiter was talking about us to the hostesses at the stand, which only added to the strange and unprofessional service. Very cozy yet upscale spot in prime West Village. The hype around Saint Theo's lies with their famous ricotta and chili oil pasta, which is only available on Mondays and Tuesdays, FYI! You will not find it on any menu as it is considered a "special" both nights. My friend and I came here on a Tuesday at 6:30pm, and the place was packed! I definitely recommend getting a reservation vs. trying to walk in, especially on the ricotta nights. Service felt a bit like they were rushing us at first- the second our glass of wine came he asked if we were ready to order food before we had even taken a sip- but it improved over the course of the meal. Our waiter recommended we start with the cicchetti section, which is basically a variety of breaded balls of various fillings. We started with the polpette as an appetizer, and each cicchetti comes with 3 balls. The polpette was the closest version to a meatball listed in this section, and it was honestly one of the best bites of food I've ever had. WOW! Highly recommend. They also provided us complimentary pickles/cucumbers which were such a delight. Now, to the main star- the ricotta pasta. The chili oil is very spicy, but it comes in a carafe on the side, so you can make your pasta as spicy or not spicy as you would like. I've seen other reviews bash the pasta as an adult Mac n cheese (which it is), but what's wrong with that? It definitely wasn't the best pasta I've had in the city, but it's a great comfort food menu item. This is just way too overpriced for what it is. The menu is great- but between the portion sizing and hefty prices, there are tons of better options in walking distance. The reason to come here is if you want to feel boujee, spend money whilst sipping on a fancy cocktail. The atmosphere is unique, romantic and homey. It wasn't particularly bad, it just wasn't good either. We had the meatballs, fried mozzarella, scallops, the ricotta pasta, and tuna crudo. Everything was just ok, it was finely seasoned if not a bit under seasoned... Scallops weren't over cooked, they weren't properly seared either though. The red sauce was fine, it tasted equivalent to a quality jar sauce.... For the price point, it felt really underwhelming and we were disappointed. Haven't been back.. likely won't! read more

I want to share my an experience at this restaurant a week ago on NYCPride on June 30th. My friend and I decided to try brunch and I ordered a glass of rose and frittata (I can attach a photo of the portiont), so this place needs to change the presentation of the frittata and also how was cooked it, it was just two egg bites like in Starbucks without much filling, they can't charge the customers for this dish of $25, it was not also possible to eat the brad that much fried, salad on the side without dressing and poor. Later, the amount for wine was mixed up in the receipt and the waiter wanted to get $30 instead $18. We also waited a long time for drinks and the hospitality at a low level in such place, the interior was beautiful and it was nice to be inside. Complete disappointment! Do not go there! read more

Unfortunately.... We were seated at a beautiful table and halfway through our meal a massive cockroach crawled across the table. We alerted a host who didn't immediately get the manager (he seemed unsure of what to do and who can blame him), and then once a second roach was spotted on the wall, we begged for the manager so we could at least settle the bill / tip our waiter and leave immediately. We didn't want to stay there for a second longer. They asked if we wanted to move to another table (we of course said no we're getting the hell out of here we don't want to touch any more food here) and the manager comped the meal (we had appetizers and one round of drinks at that point and were waiting for entrees) which was very nice of him but we were all so freaked out and grossed out we didn't care and just wanted to leave. As we were finally leaving a third cockroach was spotted crawling on the ceiling above our table. We were in the side room and everyone in there was in complete shock / some girls who just walked in even took pictures of the massive roaches because it was so insane. The manager handed me the resturaunt card (idk why) and apologized profusely and said they would be happy to have us back any time. Nice gesture but of course will not be returning. I've been living in NYC for a while, and while of course roaches come with the territory...I have NEVER experienced something like this in a dining situation. I'm sure it was a one off issue as the very nice hostess said she was so surprised since they are typically freakishly clean...probably was a crack in the wall or they recently sprayed and they came out to play. Either way, it was really crazy and gross, especially for a nice and expensive restaurant in the West Village. Especially upsetting as I had visitors in town and we were having a fun night out that was quickly ruined by this situation. My boyfriend took me here for my birthday dinner, and the ambience was perfect for a celebratory night. It's a very cute and intimate restaurant, we sat up at the bar and had excellent service. We started with cod croquettes which were my favorite part of the entire meal. They were so crispy on the outside and so creamy and flavorful on the inside. I highly recommend ordering these if you come to saint theo's. For our meal we had a pasta, Bolognese, and a grilled fish. Both were tasty. Since it was my birthday, this waitress was nice enough to bring out a birthday dessert with a candle. I also happened to have luggage with me while I was dining and the restaurant staff was very nice to give me a formal luggage tag and hold the bag safely during my meal. This was recommended to me and my boyfriend from a local, so they certainly know what they're talking about! read more

The food was pretty good, the cocktails are creative, the decor is great, the service is very good and the vibe is awesome. If you want a hip downtown vibe, this is your place. My advice, go for a drink at the bar and then walk over to Don Angie's for dinner (of course it is almost impossible to get a reservation at Don Angie's, but at least its worth it). read more

My wife and I actually had a rez elsewhere but when we got there it wasn't the vibe or menu we wanted so we decided to walk around. We happened on St. Theo's. The outside didn't look like much but we had limited time, so we walked in. Wow! What a wonderful New York surprise this was! Right off the bat, the hostess Sophie greeted us so warmly at the door we felt like we were friends coming over for dinner. And we were seated immediately with no reservation! Sophie said they love to accommodate walk-ins, and usually are able to. The interior is just beautiful. It's a fairly large space that feels intimate because of the layout, which creates several smaller spaces. The ceiling is covered in gorgeous terra cotta tiles with a colorful, artistic design that made us feel like we were in Florence or Venice! The seating was plush and comfy, and the art and art posters on the wall helped contribute to the the Italy vibe. Our server, Jesse, was warm and engaging, and he and the rest of the staff were consistently attentive. We ordered martinis, which were perfectly prepared and ample. And the food was delicious! We had the Caesar salad and tuna crudo for appetizers. We agreed that the salad was one of the best or possibly the best Caesar we've had. It's a large, very shareable portion, with super crisp Romaine and a perfectly balanced, lip-smacking dressing in just the right proportions of garlic, parmesan and other flavors. The tuna crudo was tasty--small squares of fresh tuna crudo dotted with tiny bright green olive halves. It could have used a little more acid "pop," or if not, then finer slicing of the tuna, which notes we gave to the kitchen :). One of our entrees was the branzino, which was spectacular. Perfectly cooked filet on a bed of gigante beans, broccoli di ciccio and orange gremolata--an amazing bite--yummm! We love branzino and have ordered it in many places---this was the possibly the best we've ever had. Our other entree was the Ricotta Torchio, shell-like pasta in a luxurious ricotta cheese sauce. It was spectacularly delicious. Our only note there was that it needs a little color for visual pop--maybe some diced greens like parsley?. Sadly we didn't have time for dessert. We woke up the next morning thinking about the joy of our meal there. We live in Westchester so it's a shlep to get down to the Village. St. Theo's justifies the trip, and we'll be back! It's a gem--great for a romantic date, a family or business dinner! Prices are what passes for moderate in NY these days -- entrees mostly in the mid-40s, pastas in the mid-high 20s and apps mostly in the mid-20s. read more

What a disappointment. They suddenly closed abruptly Wednesday Nov 24th due to covid outbreak. We were sad as we finally got a resi but the business ethics and response has left me feeling like maybe they don't deserve all the hype/business from locals. They cancelled the resi 5 min before. Bummer but safety is a concern and I get that. Later in the week they wrote they were back open, I messaged them letting them know how sad I was in hopes they would work with me to get a resi and instead asked my opinion on the situation, which I gave. Saint Theo's is a restaurant that I had heard of last year on social media. I hate to say for me it doesn't live up to the hype. The food was good albeit for the price it felt lacking. The ambiance is upscale and the interior has a feeling of old New York which I loved. However, my favorite takeaway from a restaurant should not be the interior. The service was great and she was kind enough to inform us that they are no longer open for lunch even though the website says it's available. My chicken milanese was great but in an area like the West Village where competition is fierce for dining especially Italian dining it doesn't quite meet the bar. I also would have liked the ability to add a starch as a side other than a pasta perhaps a fingerling potato, mashed potato, or fries? I hope they improve. read more

Finally made it to Saint Theo's for a birthday dinner and it was certainly a very good experience. We were warmly welcomed by the staff and taken to our table. Once we were seated I felt that the seats were a little too close for comfort (especially during covid). Onto the drinks! I had a delicious tequila based cocktail called "The Tadzio". It was light and refreshing with the muddled strawberries. My husband had the "Death in Venice" which was my personal favorite as a mezcal lover. As for the appetizers - the complimentary bread is 10/10 delicious. It's got a pretzel-esque flavor while also sharing the light airy nature of focaccia bread. My favorite appetizer was the tuna crudo - the tuna pieces were meaty and the lemon ribbons on top take this dish over the top. We also got the mushrooms and squash. Both of which were average, not something I would order again. For our main course we got the Ricotta pasta having heard all the rave reviews about this dish. Unfortunately it kind of fell flat for me. It needed a lot of the Calabrian chili oil to add more flavor and depth of texture. Dessert was delicious, we ordered a crumbled chocolate cake with cream! So the vibe is pretty great. I really love the romantic/retro vibe of the restaurant. The only thing I wish is that there were more diversity in their pastas. We only had a few (I think 5) to choose from. Their bread is really good to start off with. We had their stracciatella which is like burrata to start off with too. Probably should've done something else since the bread and olive oil was filling enough. The pesto pasta was okay- I really hated how they put full basil leaves in the pasta with the stems and all. It really did nothing and had to put it aside since they were dried leaves. Probably would've been better as a garnish. The ricotta pasta they had which was one of their specials and not on the menu was pretty good. It came with a chili oil which was a bit too spicy for us. Went to Saint Theo's for the first time today for lunch. Great ambiance, service, and food. We were promptly greeted for our reservation and sat towards the left back corner of the restaurant. Everyone attending to us were very kind, knowledgeable and friendly. We each got coffees. Really enjoyed my oat milk latte. I ordered the pesto pasta and it was delicious. The pasta was perfectly cooked and the pesto sauce was so smooth it was almost like a cream. And the crispy basil was a great texture variation. I got the mista salad which was a good salad but again, extremely overpriced especially for the size. And lastly I got the ricotta pasta...which was a show stopper.
