We have been trying out different pizza places around the area and Sampas has been on the list for a bit. We decided tonight was the night, ordered *Half & Half* Napolitana and Meat Lovers. The pizza was smaller than I expected, I think they was my original dissatisfaction. The meat lovers was very good, great combo of meats and good crisp. The napolitana was already cold, even though I picked it up right at my order time, which made the cheese clump together. We did not enjoy it, even after reheating. This is one of our new favorite pizza spots in the South Bay! This has been our go-to pizza spot for the last few years and it never disappoints. What really sets Sampas apart is the dough. The crust is perfect, not too thin, not doughy, just right every time. The kids always stick with a classic cheese and love it. My wife and I usually go for the funghi al tartufo and add chicken, which is solid every single time. Recently tried the Sal Paulo and I'll be honest, when I first saw corn on pizza I wasn't sure about it. But wow, it ended up being one of the best tasting pizzas I've had in a long time. The flavors just work. I also like that you can grab pizza by the slice if you're in the mood to try something new without committing to a whole pie. We live a few blocks away and can't believe it took us this long to try Sampa's Pizza. As soon as we walked in Jean(say it with a portugüese accent) greeted us and had the biggest smile. Told him it was our first time there and we're curious of what they had in the menu. He explained that they had several takes on Pizza's, They had Brazilian specialty pizzas, American & Italian classics. They had A few Salads, desserts and some fun Appetizers as well. They have fun Brazilian drinks and other specialties. We went with half Supreme & Margherita Pizza. We got a side Greek salad as well. The pizza was thin Crust, the tomato sauce was light and the toppings were fresh and delicious! Simple yet so fulfilling with every bite. Safe to say we finished the whole pizza & Salad. The Location is small but very cozy and love the decor they have. The inside had a few tables to fit maybe 20-25 people.. there is plenty of parking in the shopping center as well. Cant wait to come back and try other specialty pizzas. Really loved the vibe and they even have All you can eat as well as another option. We were hungry for pizza after transitioning our home into 'winter wonderland' mode for the Christmas season. Yelp and the great reviews lead us to Sampa's and our interaction with Gustavo, the owner. They basically have three different categories of pizza: Brazilian, Italian, and American. Gustavo is Brazilian and absolutely nails the Brazilian varieties, we went with a 1/2 Rio de Janeiro (Brazilian) and 1/2 BBQ chicken (American). The Rio de Janeiro is fresh tomato sauce, hearts of palm, provolone, *catupiry, mozzarella & oregano. It was a delicious change of pace, especially when I put on the Brazilian hot sauce. The BBQ portion has big bold flavor with the perfect amount of chicken. We got one pizza between the two of us, and left with two slices to go, if that helps give you some size perspective. The restaurant is small (4 tables), super clean, and a enjoyable atmosphere should you decided to dine it, with idyllic music to set the tone. Gustavo was a great host, ushering us through the menu and making us feel right at home with his food suggestions and genuine hospitality. As first-time visitors he insisted that we try the coconut custard on the house, I was happy with the offering, although it was not super sweet. We also tried the Brazilian flan which is less of a sugar rush than the Mexican flan, I liked it with less sugar. After these two desserts I've come to realize that Brazilian flavoring is slightly tuned down versus my normal expectations. We enjoyed a nice evening and absolutely expect to be back. They do NOT have a liquor license, so don't expect pizza and beer. They do have fun/unique soft drinks and fruit drinks which are from Brazil. In the past we have ordered their pizza and it has been outstanding, tonight we ordered, was over and hour late and cold. The manager was very gracious, Jean but was not very helpful in resolving the issue. Apparently they are trying to change delivery companies and it is not working. We love their pizza but they need to watch how they do business with the customer. Blaming it on the delivery company is still a reflection on your business, great pizza (although we have had better, my crust was too thick and the mushroom choices have changed) but the delivery has got to improve. We were really excited to try this place as it's just around the corner from our house and reviews seemed promising. We ordered a pineapple ham, lasagna pizza, and coconut pudding. Unfortunately, not a single thing we ordered was edible. The crust was chewy and tasted almost raw and the sauce and toppings left little to be desired. I see that in many reviews the owner defends his ingredients as being of high quality (hence the price) but that just did not translate into how it tasted. The pineapple may have been fresh but the proteins looked and tasted like regular deli meat. The coconut pudding was so sweet to the point it was not even enjoyable - it just tasted like condensed milk with more sugar. Really disappointing! We aren't very picky eaters and were not expecting gourmet pizzas by any means, but I can't for the life of me justify the rave reviews. read more

I've been ordering the wrong things from Sampas and that's really saying something. I already loved the other pizzas I got, but there is nothing like their signature Funghi Al Tartufo. It is absolute perfection, and it's mushroom-lover heaven. The Prosciutto is another fantastic choice - amazing proscuitto with arugula on top. We went halfsies with Strawberry Nutella and Churros for dessert, and the churro half wins - gotta love the dulce de leche. Strawberry and nutella is super rich, like half a jar of nutella but I can't say that a bad thing. I just had two of the South Bay's best pizzas in a single day. Highly recommend! read more

After agonizing over all the excellent looking choices, I decided on the Meat Lovers pizza. Mainly because it didn't have ham, as I do not like ham on my pizzas. Been on a pizza kick lately and decided to try this place because of their star rating. First off let me say the service was wonderful. The young man helping us was very sweet and threw in a free slice of the guava dessert pizza because we had to wait for a bit longer than we were told. The toppings are really tasty. My only issue is that the crust is really thin. Now I take the blame for that because o should have asked but the in the photos the crust looked like a medium thickness but it is really thin and unfortunately I really like a thicker crust. I can understand why this place is getting five stars. Being able to order a half and half pizza is big. You can order by the slice, and there are crust options, gluten free and cauliflower. We ordered 1/2 calabresa (fresh tomato sauce, hot Portuguese sausage, onions, mozzarella & kalamata olives.) and 1/2 Naples (Italian tomato sauce, fresh basil, fresh mozzarella, capers & anchovies.). Black olives are a must for my pizza, those went so well with the sausage and onions. These are thin crust pizzas, more of a traditional style, not the thick crust type that has too much dough. Those out balance the taste of the toppings. It's good to have a lot of bread $$$, but not when it come to pizza. The Naples is not for the faint of heart. Anchovies and capers. Salty goodness with mozzarella and basil. Simple ingredients that work. There's a good variety of drinks, from 2 liter down to cans or bottles. I got a lemonade San Pellegrino (Sanpellegrino Limonata). Perfect with the pizza. They also have salads and desserts. I'll try the Brazilian flan next time. The gentleman making the pizzas was very helpful and friendly. And by the way, he can cook! The place is located on PCH (Pizza Coast Highway) near the Project Barley Brewery, which is the next stop. Yes, this pizza is more expensive, but you get what you pay for. The chain pizza restaurants aren't even close, no comparison. Bon appetit! read more
