    Khao Soi

WOW! This was a fantastic Yelp find!! After a trip to Universal Studios my group was tired and hungry, this place was the PERFECT spot and only about 5 minutes away. We went on a Saturday night around 7pm (prine time?!) and though the place is pretty small, we got seated right away. There was additional parking in the back that was FREE which was a plus. AMBIENCE/ SERVICE The interior is pretty small but beautiful and casual - I felt like I was in Asia. The man who took our order (an owner I believe) was very kind and told us about how the khao soi recipe came from his wife's family who are from a city in Thailand. Service was fairly quick and there was even a little "instruction sheet" on the wall showing the best way to eat the dish. Menus were clean and large. FOOD I'd never had Khao Soi before, but now I feel like a new person lol. I ordered the shrimp one and it was absolutely delicious. The broth was the perfect amount of spice, warmth, and the flavor was deep. I enjoyed how I could add however much of the "sides" and chili oil I wanted. 10/10 all around

Expensive receipt! I normally don't take a photo of receipts. But this one is necessary,

My son and I walked into this hole in the wall Thai restaurant today around 6:15pm and had high expectations. We were greeted by Jena and she sat us in the corner where we wanted to sit and gave us 2 menus. Good selection of menu choices from their extensive menu options. She was somewhat pleasant and checked on us like 3 times. We ordered their Chicken Pad Thai ($16.95), add 3 small pieces of shrimp for $4.00. My son got their Chicken Stir-fried vegetables with a side of white steamed rice ($16.95), and also got Chicken Satay ($12.95), for 5 small skewers. Satay was also salty. For dessert we got their Mango Sticky Rice (14.95). Didn't get anything to drink besides 2 waters. He liked his food and I really didn't care much about the Pad Thai. It was salty, gooey, and hard to chew. Mango Sticky Rice was our absolute favorite. Before I forget, I wanted something with beef on the menu. They had nothing that had beef, except some of their soups. (Too hot for a soup). The A/C was on blast, I told her to turn it down a little, but nothing changed. I also asked for a small side salad that most Thai restaurants have, and she said they didn't have any salad. Place was cute, quaint, clean along with a gender neutral restroom. Also clean. They don't do catering, have pick up orders, delivery, and 3rd party orders. Established 2021. Most likely we will not go back. Plenty of other great Thai restaurants around us. Total came out to $72.21 including tax. EXPENSIVE!!!

I got the soft shell crab Kao Soi and it was delicious. Presentation was good. Price was reasonable.

Came here after a Universal Studios and was so happy we stumbled upon this restaurant. We had a big party of 8 and our server was attentive! We ordered everything from the fried rice, pad thai, pad se ew, and I opted for the Crispy Chicken Khao Soi The flavor on each dish was delicious and we had to order for to go as well! Our server informed us they have been open for about ~5 months and I hope to see more people discover this restaurant. The space is cozy, with just a handful of tables, and an open kitchen, providing a comforting feeling and aroma of spices of garlic, basil, etc.

I'm a huge fan of Thai Curries and was in the area after visiting Universal City Walk. The staff was extremely friendly and asked if it was our first time. After ordering the Prime Beef Harmlny Khao Soi, I was thoroughly impressed! This soup-like curry usually comes served over egg noodles (kind of like ramen) but I subbed the egg noddles for steamed rice. This dish was savory, spicy, and sweet making it a complex mix of flavors. The braised beef shank & tenderloin was incredibly juicy and tender, while the A5 wagyu was torched to perfection. I will definitely be coming back whenever I visit the area.

Best Khao Soi noodle soup ever . There are still many options for meat selections . All of them is amazing

Reading that they were originally from Wat Thai meant that it had to be legit. Came for dinner last night and they have such a wide variety of khao soi with different meats. I actually don't even know if they have a regular chicken option but it comes on a tray with condiments. The tray actually was kind of annoying but cool presentation I guess. Not a khao soi connoisseur but I love a curry coconut flavor. The noodles were chewy and it still had the crispy bits. For around $20 to $25, it is a decent portion. I would like a stronger curry flavor but I just love over-spiced foods. We also got the sausage appetizer and it felt a bit dry and it needed more fat in it. Service was decent but felt she was a bit slow and overwhelmed with just a few tables but still ok overall. Good overall but I feel there could be stiff competition around the Hollywood area.

I know I keep posting about this place and it will no longer be my delicious little secret place. But... omg they have a new dessert. Mango Sticky Rice ice cream sundae. It is as delicious as it sounds. And huge. Definitely enough to share. I'm still dreaming about that Khao Soi, not gonna lie.

I had take out here and I had chicken khao soi. The food was so good and is absolutely authentic Thai food. I really like the set-up of the place and the staff was great and welcoming.

I've been a fan of this place since they were selling at events, so when I heard they opened a physical storefront, I came to try it right away, and I wasn't disappointed at all. The Khao Soi tastes just as good as before, and the crispy pork belly was perfectly fried and super crispy. I also love that they now have a wider variety of menu options. The papaya salad was delicious as well. There's limited free parking in front of the shop, and we were lucky enough to get a spot.

Hole in the wall my boyfriend found close to universal studios. My mom and I had no expectations going in, because it was a "surprise" from my boyfriend. Vibes were there. Super cute, cozy, homey feels. I liked their open concept kitchen, where you can see them cook your food while you wait. It was a little cold but I mean not a big deal, it would've helped if maybe I wasn't wearing a tank top at 10pm Like I said we were pleasantly surprised about the food. It's like Japanese-Thai fusion. Not many options of food. Pretty much the same curry noodle dish with different protein options. I can now see way because it was good. I just wished someone had given an intro or something on how to eat it, because it wasn't until I was 3/4 done with the dish to where I was being adventurous and added the stuff on the side and wow did it make a difference. Another thing was I personally wasn't a fan of the fired noodles. When it got mixed in the broth with the non-fried noodles it got confusing when I would eat because the fried noodles started tasting just like hard uncooked noodles. Also, the katsu chicken was just ok. Not to bring it up again but I don't know if it was because the restaurant was cold but the food was just lukewarm. When I associate "soup noodle" dishes, I feel like it is meant to be piping hot. But I mean... you know how the saying goes... like a fatty I devoured it all. The dessert was delicious, it was the mango sticky rice. So if I could I would give it a 3.5 because it's average but a little more than average due to its unique fusion menu. However, when I really think about it overall it was just ok. I'd be willing to try again, it could just be that day it was off?

This is the best Thai food I've ever had. If you are reading this review and are trying to decide where to eat, do yourself a favor and choose Saoha! We went to Universal and this wonderful restaurant was on our walk back to our hotel. It's a nice, clean restaurant with excellent service and food. Our waitress explained that the recipes are her Grandmothers and they travel back to Northern Thailand for the special ingredients and spices to ensure the authenticity and special, unique flavor that all their dishes possess. I had the crispy chicken Sao Ha Khao and my Mom had the soft shell crab Sao Ha khao. I'm at a loss for words to express the flavor profile in my meal, it was out of this world and so delicious. I am a stickler for meat quality and it was excellent, not fatty or anything. I love this restaurant and wish it was where I lived, I'd eat here weekly if I could. I highly recommend eating here if you are ever so lucky!

The regular menu is quite expensive with the cheapest at $17 for appetizer and salad options and most expensive at a whooping $80. The lunch menu was more affordable but still on the pricey side $21-$32 with add on options. The waitress was taking our orders and what surprised me was with my co-worker ordered the pad see ew and the waitress asked her how spicy she wants it. I was aw shocked. I'm not a Thai food expert but I do know pad see ew is a noodles dish that's offers a sweet soy sauce flavor. Never served spicy. I didn't get to try the dish but when I asked my co worker how it taste she said it was spicy and not sweet at all. I'm not sure that was an authentic pad see ew. I ordered from the lunch menu and got the tumeric chicken, with steamed vegetables and paid extra $7 to substitute for a papaya salad. I asked for #2 spice level but it was not spicy at all. Other co workers said they asked for medium but it was way too spicy. So it looks like their spicy levels are inconsistent. I'm not sure how this restaurant can justify the prices with the quality they are serving. Probably won't be back. Service was mediocre. Didn't offer to refill our waters. The rice was piping hot and the mangos were sweet and soft, drizzled with a generous serving of sweet coconut milk. I went close to closing so the staff could only offer me takeout, which was fine. They were friendly both over the phone and in-person when I picked up my order. I'm only dinging it a point because of its high(er) price point. I would be down to go back again to try out their entrees next time though!

At the end I apologized and she was like "it's ok, next time." And she was genuinely fine with it. She reassured me not to worry about it. So I'm determined to come back to tip her because if anybody deserved a tip it was her. I ordered Pad Thai with tofu- I like to order peanut sauce on the side and the woman found it interesting and struck a non judgmental conversion about it. I could really tell she was genuinely curious. This was my favorite dish. It was good. I also ordered spicy fried rice with tofu and spicy panang curry with vegetables. I chose 4 out of a 6 for spicy and it was not spicy at all for me. The rice was fine, nothing extraordinary and nothing bad. The panang curry was yummy. I don't know if it's regional but it was very light in taste and light in thickness. BUT I enjoyed it for what it was. Felt like I had gotten home made chicken soup or something like that comforting and not overly processed. Maybe it's because I ordered it with no protein and just vegetables. I ordered a lot of food so I explained to her that I was going to eat some and take the rest to go. When she brought the food she brought it nicely packed without a bag. She also brought me a real plate and utensils to eat here. She let me know that when I was ready she'd bring a bag which I thought was thoughtful. She also made sure to say "take your time, no need to rush. We close at 8" and it was 5pm. Again, it felt genuinely nurturing, she wanted to make sure I felt taken care of and welcomed. It meant a lot because I was frazzled from forgetting my wallet and from having a hard day at work. This was my first time here and it won't be my last. There is a small lot on site. I especially loved the beautiful ceramic water cups with bird designs--they were so unique and charming. Even the water tasted wonderful! I'm thrilled that Au Lac is still thriving after all these years. If anything, the food tasted even better than I remembered. I certainly won't wait another 12 years before coming back. In fact, I was so impressed that I convinced my husband to come with me next Saturday for dinner! I've tried many vegan restaurants over the years, and Au Lac remains my absolute favorite. Nothing special, had better at other establishments in the plaza. 3 stars Pad thai was my least favorite and the worst pad Thai I tried. My daughter told me that it was not good. And all she order from thai restaurants is pad Thai. I usually think she doesn't know really, but after I tried it. I had to agree. Worst pad thai we tasted. It basically tasted like fish sauce. 1 star Duck curry soup was good, nice creamy broth, with loads of onions, bell peppers, pineapple chunks. 5 stars Yea I would most definitely try the other restaurants in the plaza guys. Dont go for the hype. Thai central or crispy pork gang. Unfortunately I will never come to ruenpair again. They won't miss me as a customer by the way the line out the door is. But trust me it's not all that great. Hey do take my word for it, give them a try. Matter of fact give them all a try. Let me know what restaurant you think is the best in that plaza. Also they automatically change 18% gratuity which I think is illegal and a robbery. Tip should be for the customer to decide. Depending on service and food. Not because you think you deserve it, because imo you did not. Ka kon kapp
