Noodle Plate with Chicken Teriyaki and veggies
    Alyssa B.

Honestly the last okay place open in Tanforan mall right now. Service is a hit or miss, they can be really nice and give you extra sauce. The ambiance is just the open seating area, where I've definitely had my fair share of creepos through the years. The food is nostalgic to me. Their noodles are my favorite, and I don't even know what kind they really are LOL Some days when they crisp up the chicken is when it's at its best. The veggies are just okay, steamed well. ALWAYS ask for extra sauce!!

The worst service ever!!! I ask for rice, noodles and chicken and I had to ask again and they put it on top y left the box open and yelled at me "ITS READY" y had to close the box by my self, get a bag and utensils and I was scared to ask for soy sauce! WORST SERVICE!!

    Severely rude- no customer service.

What a terrible downer on our last night by the bay. Rudest person ever. I was in line in back of another customer waiting and after a few minutes he shouted NO MORE ORDERS!!! He could have notified me earlier without shouting. Even the cooks looked at the situation in shock. Did they run out of ingredients or...Maybe he just wanted to close up fast but he handled the situation poorly. There was 20 more minutes before they closed- zilcho customer service. Goodness... can you tell I'm very bummed? Never ever been treated in such a manner. I hope management sees this review and trains this person better. He could have said it in a better way especially if no one else was behind me plus I had been waiting in line. Anti- Asian??? Seems strange for a Japanese take out to hire such an employee with no tact or respect for customers. So glad Pita Gyros greeted us with smiles, treated us kindly and took our order without a problem. Kudos to them. Good job Pita Gyros.

Fragment of the stone that lodged in my gums. Found with the side of veggies.

Ordered the Chicken Teriyaki double orders last night. As I took a spoon full of the side veggies & chew on it. A stone pierced my gums. Not at all satisfying when you have to remove it when it was embedded in my gums at the back of my molars.

Love this place but man it's disgusting when you find a cockroach in your food. Please be aware what your eating! This is probably due to unclean grill

About the best katsudon you can have outside of japan. The salads are bottomless so that is great. A bit of a wait so come early.

After ordering it did take a bit of time to get our food as they seemed pretty backlogged. I got the sushi deluxe which came with an assortment of nigiri and an eel roll. We also got the tempura udon, and a crab roll. Everything was delicious! I loved the nigiri here as they're so generous in size and always taste fresh. The crab roll was also good, and the sweet potato tempura that came with the udon was amazing. Definitely recommend amami - their omakase is great and everything else too!

My husband and I had dinner here tonight, and overall it was a really memorable experience. We've…read moretraveled quite a bit and tried sushi in many different cities, including around the Los Angeles area where we live and have our favorite spots. So when we visit a sushi restaurant, we tend to evaluate everything as a whole -- price, quality, service, and of course the flavors. For dinner we ordered the Mango Tuna Roll (which was our first time trying a mango-style sushi roll), the 8-piece Omakase Nigiri, a Double Toro Roll, two pieces of Otoro, and a hot sake. With a 20% tip included, the total for the two of us came to $163.50, which honestly falls within the average range of what we usually spend for a sushi dinner like this. Normally we might pay around $120-$130 depending on the place, sometimes a little more if we add an extra item or two. The portion sizes were pretty standard. Not unusually large, but not small either -- similar to what we've experienced at many other sushi restaurants. Where this place really stood out was the depth of flavor. The quality and balance of the ingredients were excellent. At one point I actually caught myself closing my eyes just to focus on the taste, which is something I almost never do. The preparation felt very refined and the flavors were elevated, rich, and memorable. I would describe it as delicate portions with very elevated flavors. Because of that, I'm giving this place 5 out of 5 stars. This is the kind of restaurant that works perfectly for a nice dinner with your partner. It's not necessarily a place where you go wild ordering everything on the menu like at a taco spot. Instead, it's better to be thoughtful with what you choose and enjoy a few well-crafted dishes. You can easily have a special, enjoyable dinner here without going overboard. Definitely worth visiting if you're in the area and want a quality sushi experience with refined flavors. The only thing I felt was missing was a small welcome miso soup. In some sushi restaurants we've visited, they serve a tiny cup of miso with a couple pieces of tofu as a warm welcome. It's a very small gesture, but it creates a nice first impression and adds a sense of hospitality to the experience. Considering the quality and pricing of the menu here, a simple welcome miso soup would fit perfectly with the overall dining experience.

They have regular specials which are often very good, a recurring special seems to be their uni and toro on a crispy base (yam if I remember correctly), which is always served with the seafood fresh and the base warm and crunchy! They also have great non-seafood options, I recently got the spicy lamb skewer, which was served warm, and seasoned and cooked to perfection. The restaurant is a pretty decent size, if you come early evening it's easy to get seated right away, but it gets pretty popular as the evening goes on!

Whether I stop by for lunch or dinner, the food, service, and overall experience remain reliably good every single time. On my latest visit, the Mango Spider Roll was a standout. It was fresh, refreshing, and perfectly balanced, though I will admit I am biased since mango is my favorite fruit. My ultimate guilty pleasure, however, is the sushi pizza. If you have never tried it, do yourself a favor and order one. It deserves all the praise it gets. The service is consistently friendly and attentive, which is one of the many reasons I keep returning year after year. Parking can depend on what is happening nearby, since street parking is the main option, but I have never had to circle the block more than a couple of times to find a spot. The restaurant also has plenty of seating, and in all my visits over the years, I have never had to wait. Reliable, welcoming, and delicious, this is the kind of neighborhood favorite that earns its place in your regular rotation.
