Wow! We had a wonderful dinner at Seasons Taiwanese Eatery. Lots of parking in the Plaza's garage... but the plaza itself was so empty and majority of businesses were closed (it was only 6:30pm). Upon arrival at the Eatery located alongside the canal, place was fairly busy (3/4 full). Service was helpful... first time here so we had lots of questions about the dishes. We ordered the Cucumbers & Dragon Dumplings to share, then individual bowls of noodles (hardest part was determining what spicy level we each could handle). All the food arrived timely and were prepared beautifully... we enjoyed the flavors and spice of each dish. Bonus: Got a discount for paying with my ASB Debit Card (bank's 'Buy Local' program). Glad cashier mentioned it... that added a star to my review. When craving Taiwanese food, would definitely return and highly recommend Seasons. read more

Food was so good I forgot to take pictures of our other dishes Came here with two friends and we did family style -- Taiwanese style popcorn chicken (large), stir fry tofu with veggies, oxtail in black pepper sauce, and classic beef noodle soup. Popcorn chicken did not disappoint -- reminded me exactly of what I'd get in TW and have never had basil leaves fried and soooo crispy and light! The tofu stir fry was a sleeper hit; idk what sauce is on there but it was delicious. Oxtail in black pepper sauce was the true winner. Soooo much flavor. The only disappointment was surprisingly the classic beef noodle soup; there just wasn't really any flavor. We "saved" the dish though by taking out the beef pieces and noodles and coating them in the remaining black pepper sauce. Service was also very friendly! The only open table they had for four was right under the AC and it was freezing! They apologized multiple times and tried to lower the temperature. Very attentive and workers seem happy. Ever since I visited Season's Ice & Eatery's a few weeks ago, I literally cannot stop thinking about their chili wontons and taiwanese popcorn chicken. They're in the Chinatown Cultural Plaza and have a very reasonably priced menu of classic taiwanese street foods. the owner was super chill and chatted with us and told us about how he took over his family's business and has plans to expand the menu in the coming months. I'm not a huge beef noodle fan but I really liked the flavoring he uses in his soup base, and how generous the portions are. The popcorn chicken is spiced nicely and is given an extra fragrant boost from the fried thai basil. They're fried to a perfectly golden brown crispiness and the inside is super juicy and just the perfect dish to share. The chili oil wontons with chives use a szechuan pepper which I absolutely love, and they're quite large and stuffed generously. I asked to take the chili oil home and have been using it on everything from rice and edamame to eggs and meats and it enhances the flavor of my food tremendously haha parking is available in the chinatown cultural plaza for a pretty cheap rate, or you can try to find some street parking around the area. read more

I think this is one of my favorite spots. The portion sizes are big so my mom and I order 1 spicy ramen and split it. Mostly becuase we love to order sides as well. The spicy ramen is SPICY!! Even if you do a level 1. If you only like spice sometimes, just get the beef broth. Very hearty but delicious. We also always order the popcorn chicken and the dumplings. The location is kind of odd but not too big of a deal. Parking is $1 per hour. Staff is always super attentive and very good. I'm assuming the guy at the register is the owner. The soups are fantastic but even heat lovers better start mild or 1 on the 1-5 heat scale. The food was wonderful! We ordered the popcorn chicken (level1), fried green beans, spicy eggplant and white rice. I did read a review about not liking the eggplant dish since it's cold but I found all dishes worked perfectly together. I like eating the hot green beans and cold eggplant in the same bite! We were disappointed that the dumplings were sold out but that will give us reason to return. The restaurant had a steady stream of customers while we were there and there seemed to be only one person taking orders, serving and clearing tables but she was pleasant and the food was served relatively quick. My friends and I came here on Friday for dinner. I wasn't sure how crowded they were going to be, so I made reservations the night before. We parked across the street at the municipal lot, which has a max of $3 when entering after 5pm. We came around 7:30pm, and there were only two other parties dining in. For our group of five, we shared five different dishes, which ended up being the perfect amount of food. I was very happy with the variety of dishes and the unique flavors each brought to the table. We ordered a large popcorn chicken, fried tofu, fried green beans, classic beef broth noodles, and boiled dumplings, along with sides of rice. The popcorn chicken almost tasted like cinnamon but had a great light and crispy texture. The fried tofu was probably my favorite dish. It had the perfect amount of crispiness and had a nice vinegar flavor. The pickled cabbage that came with it was also really crunchy and delicious. My second favorite dish was the fried green beans. Even though it had fried in the name, it wasn't super heavy or battered. The noodles and dumplings were also flavorful. The workers here were super kind and patient! The server was very nice and helpful and the chef even came over to ask how the food was. You can feel the love for the family restaurant! We ordered the classic broth, spicy broth and the chefs special spicy broth. You can choose to have beef, tendon or both in all of the noodle dishes. The noodles are thicker and have a nice chew to it. The chefs special spicy broth didn't have too much flavor just straight Szechuan flavor. This is definitely the spot for some amazing beef noodle soup! I ordered the classic combo noodle with a spice level of 3 and my wife ordered the classic combo mild. Such a clean herby taste of the broth with a rich touch from the beef and tendon, would highly recommend. Just be careful with the spice level because it can definitely get up there. Like the new space it's bright, clean, and bigger. We passed by the old place. Apparently that was the father and mother's place. The son is now the chef and he said when his mom gave him the recipes he was shocked .he's added more spice and heat. He said as it should be and not customize for every palate. We had their dumplings in spicy sauce and it was very good. They give a lot. I would get it again. We also had the Taiwanese popcorn chicken with fried basil. It was so good. The vibe is different. I can't really put my finger on it. But I was craving the popcorn chicken...even if I never had the chicken before. Just did take out...good thing b/c was kinda crowded. Asked if I wanted Spicy...yes please. Really not very spicy though. Could have kicked it up a notch...and think if they added more of the shichimi looking thing, it could get brutal. I could have used a little more. Like the fried basil. Other than that not that much taste. Some pieces tasted a little salt, but other not so much. I put furikake on my rice so that added a little. Cooked well, and they put pukas in the container so it wouldn't steam itself soggy. Nice touch. Outside of the container super messy though so got the spice and oil all over my hands. I've been wanting to try the food here for awhile & finally had some free time today. I'm so happy we got to come by, the food is definitely worth the drive from the west side. We got in around 11am, there was only 1 table left so lucky us. We were helped very quickly and the food came out just as fast. We ordered the retro beef and tendon noodle bowl, pork sauce rice, Taiwanese meatball soup, 3 braised egg and the dumplings w/ the chili oil on the side + 3 drinks. Total came out to around $74 & with the portion sizes, I definitely think you get your monies worth. Everything was delicious! The chef/owner was very funny, making jokes with a lot of the customers. I apologize in advance for my personal taste preferences. The Chef Special Spicy Beef Noodle was too tangy for my liking. I understand szechuan is tangy by nature, but too much for me. Otherwise the noodles were cooked perfectly al dente and the brisket was very tender. Lots of fresh basil and crunchy bean sprouts added for good measure. Even the Classic Beef Noodle Soup was surprisingly tangy . . . Again, personal preference? The spicy wontons were flavorful and the presentation is great with all the red chili oil. Moderate serving enough for 2-3 people to share. The ambience is simple and cozy. I'm a sucker when the owner/chef makes rounds with his customers which he did today. Our food was packed really well and loved that the soup was packed separately from the noodles. For the chefs special spicy beef noodle, I got it at a level 3 and that was pretty spicy so I recommend a level 1 if you're looking for a slight kick to your noodles. The chefs special spicy beef noodle was really delicious and hit the spot especially on a super cold and rainy day. There was so much noodles, it was totally worth the price! The beef noodle soup was the best! I'll definitely come back for that next time! It had so much flavor and umami, this is the flavor I think of for a beef noodle soup. Lunch in Honolulu's Chinatown... Metered street parking is free on a holiday. That was one of my main motivators for dining at the Chinese Cultural Plaza this past 4th of July. They do have a covered parking structure, but I dislike paying for parking. A long time ago, my friend, Rissa, recommended Season's Ice and Eatery because it's one of the few Taiwanese restaurants in Honolulu. I tried to dine here on a Sunday when metered street parking is free, but the restaurant is closed on Sundays... Haha! I finally made it a point to schedule a lunch here. I did call Season's first to make sure that they'd be open on Independence Day. Brian was our gracious host, server, and informant. He is the friendly owner who told us that the shave ice machine has been broken for the past 4 years. We had to go elsewhere for dessert... But we actually were too full! We ordered dumplings, chicken wings, and popcorn chicken to share. The dumplings were a bit overcooked and tasted better with the special garlic sauce. My chicken wing had a couple of feathers in it. It was a bit spicy for me so I moved on to the popcorn chicken... A winner! Tasty and crunchy, I even finished up the fried basil that came with the popcorn chicken! Wow everyone got a noodle dish I ordered the wonton soup. I liked the fact that there was shrimp in the dumplings. Too bad the Wontons were over cooked. The wrappers were falling apart. We came here for lunch on Independence Day and met at Season's Ice and Eatery in Chinatown Cultural Plaza at 11:30am. We were the only ones there so we were able to learn about the business from Brian. He is the second generation owner of the establishment that's been around for 30 years. We asked the meaning of the name and he said that Hawai'i has two seasons only which are warm/hot and rainy season so that's how they got Season's. They had a shave ice machine and offered this sweet treat till about 4 years ago when he took over the business and when the shave ice machine broke. If he expands the restaurant, he said he's going to get another shave ice machine and will offer the local favorite again. Peter Y, Donna O, Lunch Buddy and the Mayor of Chinatown was at this lunch. We ordered a bit of everything so we could get a tasting of their menu. Lunch Buddy got 3 drinks from their fridge behind us so we could try these Chinese/Taiwanese drinks. They were Apple Sidra, Hey Song Sarsaparilla (Chinese/Taiwanese root beer) and a Winter Melon drink. I liked the Winter Melon drink the most and the Hey Song Sarsaparilla least of the three but the latter had the most health benefits (especially for my liver). They also have cups and a water dispensing machine by the door if you want complimentary water. The restaurant went from empty to full shortly after we got our food. Talk about good timing! We ordered their Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken, Crispy Chicken Wings and Pork + Chive Dumpling to share. Surprisingly I really like the Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken and Crispy Chicken Wings. The fried basil in the Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken reminded me of a Thai dish I love eating. Crispy Chicken Wings came out super hot so be careful before you bite into it. I let it sit for awhile after I bit into it and there was steam still coming out from it with my next few bites. The Pork + Chive Dumpling can be dipped in their house made garlic sauce that's on the table (brown sauce in squeeze bottle) and what Brian said customers liked to do. I liked the dumplings more with their homemade chili oil. Make sure to ask for it if you like spicy. Brian recommended we all order medium bowls because the portions were large and we had ordered a lot. Glad he mentioned it because I left really full. Everyone ordered their own bowls but they have 3 main broth options. First is the Classic Taiwanese broth, second is the Retro Spicy (homemade chili oil) and lastly the Family Recipe broth which is Brian's grandmothers recipe. He also has a Chef's Special which is his take on 3 of his favorite beef noodle dishes in 1. It doesn't come with tendon but he mentioned that you can ask for tendon to be added. I took his recommendation to add the tendon on the Chef's Special and asked to make it super spicy. He said he'll make it level 2 for me. It wasn't spicy at all and I would probably order level 20 next time lol but I believe he mentioned he can go up to level 5 in spice. I'm so glad I ordered this vs their Retro Spicy Combo Noodle. The bean sprouts added a different textural component to the dish so it wasn't flat. I also enjoyed the basil in the soup as it made me think of "Taiwanese Pho" when I ate the dish.
