From the moment you walk in, this restaurant is clean and odorless (a good thing for a sushi restaurant). The prices are very reasonable for the caliber of artistry in their rolls. The "Special" is an off menu item that was created on the fly by Inoh, the young sushi chef. We always get the oysters, when they have them. It depends on the quality of the shipment; they have refused to accept deliveries in the past. The oysters are amazing. This is a fantastic sushi place. I rank it up there with the Sushi Den in Denver (look it up! Definitely worth a visit if you are ever in Denver). I've had sushi at over 70 places across the valley. Yet another one of my regular stops. Always a calm and relaxing environment. The decor is quaint and really cozy, lighting is low. (I'm not a realtor, I swear) I have only ever ordered Nigiri and Maki and have never disappointed. My man prefers cooked food so he always gets the chicken katsu. Good food, below average service. We have visited Sekai a number of times over the years and generally enjoy the food and service, but Valentines Day this year was different. We sat at the sushi bar like we usually do at about 5:45pm. Keep in mind that Happy Hour runs until 6pm. We ordered, were served, and enjoyed our food until the bill came. None of the "happy hour" food we ordered was priced correctly. It was all at full price. When we ask, we were told there was no happy hour today yet there were no signs nor did anyone tell us this. We are now debating if we should go back to a place that we previously enjoyed and have been to 20+ times. read more

This is my go to spot now for sushi. Sat at the sushi bar and had great service plus the chefs were friendly and helped out with a couple questions I had. The rolls were terrific and so fresh! I had a standard spicy tuna and a specialty roll. I'm always surprised by how many places dont do a good spicy tuna, but Sekai nailed it! It was yummy, fresh, just the right amount of heat and not at all skimpy. Hopefully I'm not messing the name up but the specialty roll I had was the Gold Canyon roll - oh so delicious and that delicious sauce made it seem just a little decadent :). Iwent there tonight with my boyfriend and his daughter. We left feeling ripped off. The food was okay, but that's it good not great. The portions were small, there was no special flavor or anything beyond basic and to top it all off, it was way more expensive than it was worth. It was takeout quality at fine dining prices. They were understaffed and slow service, but otherwise fine. We were basically mostly upset and disappointed by the disproportionate quality to price ratio. The eel sauce was also kinda jelly like which was weird and the tuna sashimi was served completely plain, didn't taste good and was cut way too thick. read more

Let me start by saying this was our go to sushi spot. I simply wasn't active on Yelp at that point, so I never got around to submitting a review. Would have been a solid 4 stars at that point. The waitress always recognized us every time we stopped in and she provided great service. However, within the past few months or so they brought on a new waitress whose service has been the worst. We tried to give her the benefit of the doubt the first time since she was still new. That being said we have stopped in at least three more times after that. One time we ordered a roll without cream cheese and it came out with cream cheese on it. This last time I took my sister and her husband there and their sodas were flat from the start. I told the waitress about them being flat and asked for water on their behalf to which she responded by saying, "Yeah they felt a little flat." (Follow up thoughts, who can feel a soda being flat and even if you could why would you bring it to the table?) Moving on, they ordered a roll, edamame, chicken teriyaki bowl, and chicken fried rice to which she repeated the order back. The roll never came. When the owner brought us the check, the for-the-most-part untouched sodas were on there. I made him aware of what occurred and he took them off the receipt. I am a firm believer in tips and her tip reflected her service. Their happy hour prices and times are great, love that aspect as well as the quality of sushi. Gave me food poisoning. I was so sad this morning when I threw up my entire dinner. We came here last night for happy hour and I had the golden Cali roll and the shrimp tempura. On my last bite of the golden Cali, I chewed something gooey and pulled out something green and tough and gooey. It looked like a fish intestine. I almost threw up right then! Went on a Monday night an hour and a half before closing. We filled out our sushi sheet, and ordered edamame. We had eaten the edamame and had been sitting for about 30 mins while I watched the sushi chef started cleaning up his station for the night. I knew the waitress forgot our sushi. We called her over and told her that we filled out the sheet that she took from us..... she apologized and a couple minutes our octopus came out. We ate it cause now we had been waiting almost an hour for sushi. The sushi chef continued to clean his station and I call the girl over again because WE ORDERED MORE THAN THE OCTOPUS!!!!! She didn't put in the rest of our order after getting it wrong already twice. She seemed bothered that we were asking for the rest of our sushi. I could tell they wanted to close up but I mean come on. We most definitely felt rushed. The sushi was good, but the customer service will keep me from returning, our order was messed up not once, not twice but three times!!!!!!! We paid 70 dollars for the amount of sushi we ordered and she didn't even offer a discount for her mistakes!!!! Super disappointed in this experience. read more

I go here a lot, mainly because they have soju and I like it much more than hot sake. The food is pretty good as well. My favorite is the matrix roll, which is like a spicy tuna roll but they deep fry the rice and add the spicy tuna on top with some eel sauce. read more
