Probably would give this place a 3 1/2 if it was possible. It was good food, but price points weren't worth it personally for me. I ordered the shack stack with a side of fries. I know a lot of people compare shake shack to in n out but both burger joints are completely different. In n out is simple with a very small menu. Shake shack has a lot more to offer but at a steeper price point. The burger I got was amazing. The fried cheesy portabello is what dreams are made of the fries are definitely better than in n out for sure. They're much crispy. This place does CRAZY business. The first time we walked by, there was a crazy line (outside the building), so we decided to pass it up. The next time we walked by, the line had gone down, so we went inside. My boyfriend only wanted a frozen custard, so we got to be in the short line reserved for people only ordering a drink or a custard. It's been a while since I've had Shake Shack in NY. Last time I went, they were running a promotion to welcome Carmelo Anthony to the Knicks (I think it was called the Carmelo Anthony Shake.) Either way, I remember having a pretty good impression of their burgers. Combine that with all the hype in the media, my expectations were high. We ordered the regular ShackBurger, the Roadside Shack, the Corn Dog, the Banana Pudding Custard, and Fries. We also got to try their special Uchi-koncrete and some kind of peach custard pie thingy that others in our group ordered. Well, the burgers were pretty good, just like I remembered, but the single patty wasn't nearly enough for me, even with the fries and other stuff. If you have a decent appetite, I would definitely suggest getting the double patty. The corn dog was underwhelming. It was kind of soggy with all the oil. My wife LOVES corn dogs and she didn't even want to eat it. The fries were good but nothing too special. As for the desserts, the distinctions between the custard/concrete weren't too noticeable. Maybe because they melted too quickly in the heat but they were good nonetheless. Overall, I'm definitely a fan of the place and this location in the Domain is awesome! However, my dilemma is when I would actually come here. See, people like to compare Shake Shack to In-N-Out but that's not really a fair comparison. In-N-Out is a fast food chain. Shake Shack is not. It's something slightly fancier. So if I'm craving fast food burgers, I'll go to In-N-Out. If I'm craving real gourmet burgers, I would go to Hopdoddy. With their double patty burgers priced at almost $9, if I'm already paying that much, I would no doubt choose Hopdoddy over Shake Shack any day. So yeah, while I enjoyed my experience and would recommend the place, I'm not sure when I'll come back again. Maybe come for desserts after a meal? read more

It really is a cool and hip joint. And the burgers and fries are darn good (check out the cheese fries--YUM). So it is always an enjoyable experience at the Shack. Right now they have a special shake available... Holiday Cookie. Extra YUM. Tastes a lot like cake batter frozen yogurt which is one of my family's favorites. We don't normally do shakes and burgers but decided to break with tradition this time and it paid off. The Domain location is a fun one... some very interesting folks coming and going there. I was craving a shake before my long drive home back to Houston, TX tonight. The whole SXSW crowd is in full effect so getting here sooner was a no go. But finally the traffic died down and I got to check it out with a local friend. Located in Austin's Domain shopping center, it's a very posh looking spot. Walking in it looked like I was in for a treat. I took one look at their menu and saw all their offerings. It was tough to decide, since I was a first timer here! I decided to go for something a little more than basic so we opted to split a Smokeshack burger, share cheese fries and each get a shake of our choice. I got chocolate, she got salted caramel. Being that this was in the Domain area I figured the prices would be a little on the high side. Burger was around $7 and the fries around $4 and the shakes were about $5 n change each. So just for a complete combo it was a bit high, but I was curious to see what I was in for. The staff was kind and courteous and when the food came out I saw just how small the burgers were. Think P.Terry's or In And Out.. the fries came in a small carton container, enough for a nice sized handful, and the shakes were in small cups. The first thing I thought was "There's no way we can split this burger. It'd be like 3 bites each!" So I went back to order another and the manager was ringing me up this time. I mentioned it was my first time there and he was kind enough to offer me any dessert on the menu. He suggested the Hopscotch and I said "sure!" So my friend took a bite of her burger and she nodded her head in approval. She said it's good but insisted I try mine to give it my own opinion. Mine came out and I ran to the bar to grab it, got my ketchup for the fries and sat down to eat. I picked up the burger and took in the sweet bacony aroma. For such a small burger it smelled great! Took a bite and I was impressed. The bread was not too thick or bready, the meat was thin but very flavorful and what impressed me the most were the spicy peppers and signature sauce. It added just the right about of kick to the burger without overpowering the whole thing. I moved onto the fries, and they straight up reminded me of high school crinkle cut fries. They're not fresh cut fries, but they tasted great. I am glad they didn't drown them out with cheese. The ketchup complimented them well too. Onto the chocolate shake. Now I am used to your typical shake made with Hershey's syrup and God knows what kinda icecream. So when I took a sip of mine I was not expecting what my buds got smacked with! It tasted like real deal ground chocolate cocoa. Think Abuelita's hot cocoa bars ground up to a powder and then mixed in with really great ice cream! It wasn't too sweet at all and it had really deep hints of sweet and bitter chocolate grounds. I bet ground espresso beans would set this off, but it was great just as it was. I also tasted the salted caramel shake as well and it too was sweetened to perfection. One would think salted caramel would invite the sleepy-itis but it didn't .. the key word is balance. And the shakes were perfect in this category. Now, I thought about giving this place 3 stars because at a glance it looks like a rip off because of the amount of money you are paying vs the quantity/size of food you are getting in return. But after a while I realized that everything I consumed was more than enough to satisfy both my palette and my appetite. One could argue that you can get just as good a combo at P.Terry's or In and Out, but the flavor of the bacon and toppings on the burger really did set it apart from the rest. Fries are a non-factor, but in the shake department this place is golden. If you wanna pay cheap prices to eat more than what you need elsewhere then do that. But if you want a good serving size and flavor to boot, then this is a good spot to try. I am tempted to complain about the size of the shakes but again, my tummy is more than full. If you need more then you probably need to be eating healthier...just saying. I will be back again sometime soon to try other stuff. Oh and the Hopscotch was ok, just a bit too sweet for my tastes. So delicious! I was concerned the lines were going to be crazy but turned up early (toddler dinner time) only a few people there. It was still a bit cramped I had a stroller but even if I didn't it would have been annoying with a long line of people. There are only two registers one of which is meant to be dedicated to drinks and desserts only, but the drinks one is pretty impossible to get to without leaning squeezing past the food register. The ropes don't help at all. Lost a star for that since it was totally annoying and there were only three people on the line with me. Now lets get to the good stuff.... the food!! The burger was A-mazing. Grilled with crispy burger bits, cheese nice and melty, bacon was crispy and not too fatty, the bun was so soft and fluffy, pickles weren't too sour added just the right amount of zing. The fries were super crisp, hot and salty! I shared an order of fries with the hubby not a good idea, they're pretty small so you might want your own. I had a glass of wine and the husband a beer. Nothing amazing house wine was good crisp a bit of a fizz to it. Best part though is you get to keep the little plastic Govino wine glass it comes in! Those plastic cups are not cheap normally sell for 12 bucks a 4 pack. So although the wine was a bit pricey at least you get to take something home. Seriously don't leave it behind Govino cups are awesome and they'll just toss them into the recycle bin. read more

I've been to shake shack's multiple locations around the US and this one is my absolute favorite. The employees here were the most chipper, and when you ask for a little extra of something, they make sure you get it. My favorite is the smokeshack because of its shack sauce paired with the cherry peppers (make sure you get extra peppers)! I also looooooove their cheese fries with a malted vanilla shake. The fries are okay as they were a bit crispy but empty, meaning that the fries didn't quite have the consistency of the potato inside the crispy shell of the fry. I was told this was one of the the best burgers in town by a chef, so being a burger connoisseur and trusting of his opinion, I had to give it a shot. I was with my Dad and told him I would buy lunch and since we were near the Domain I thought we would give this a shot. Took me a while to find it relying on google maps, but eventually we did. I was afraid of lines (had also been told not to go at noon since lines would be out the door), but there were only a few people in front of us. The place was full and finding a place to sit was more of a challenge than anything else. The place was very clean, the setup was good but I can see where there could be a problem if the lines were too long. They did have some outdoor seating areas which alleviated some of the crowding it was moot when it began to rain and everyone came in. I ordered the Lockhart Link burger and my Dad ordered one of the specials. We also added an order of fries. The burgers looked good, the link burger tasted quite good, the other one was ok, it had some kind of sweet pepper sauce on it. It was not my favorite and I would not order it again. The meat was not too thin but almost. The bun was toasted which I prefer and the topping quantity (lettuce/tomato) were just fine. The fries had a good texture, crunchy on the outside, soft in the middle, they were good but nothing out of this world. Overall, I liked the burger, it was good and I would go back. What I didn't like was the value. The price is on the high side for the amount you get. Literally it is the size of a junior burger at most restaurants. You could have quartered these burgers and eaten them in 4 bites. I did not get the double meat, but next time I will try that. I still think Mighty Fine is just as good for a plain ole' burger, and you get more. read more
