Having had Shake Shack in a few different cities across the country, I'm an even bigger fan of In-n-Out now. This new Shake Shack is located in the heart of Downtown just a block away from Whole Foods. We came by on a Sunday for a quick dinner and were surprised that the restaurant was completely full. After ordering, we waited about 10 minutes for our buzzers to be called. The Shackburger was pretty small. If I just ate that, I'd be hungry 2 hours later. I'm not a fan of the texture of the buns because they're super soft, but that's just my preference. The meat patty was pretty small too. I liked the Chick'n Shack more. A crispy chicken breast with lettuce, tomato, pickles and buttermilk herb mayo. The chicken was fried well and pretty juicy inside, but the sandwich got pretty messy after a couple bites. I'm not a fan of crinkle cut fries at all, so I'll never order them here. But I did steal some and they were nothing special. My biggest gripe with Shake Shack is that everything is a few dollars more expensive than it should be. A burger with fries and a drink will run you almost $15, whereas the same thing at In-n-Out would be less than $10. Pretty big difference in my opinion. If I had a choice, I'd go to In-n-Out 9 times out of 10, and the 1 time I'd go to Shake Shack, I'd hope the food would be better. read more

Another pretentious burger joint. I ordered a shake burger fries and a drink. The customer service is good. the cashier, did verify that they were out of avocado of her own accord, and informed they were out. So I sat down to a modernist appointed dinning area. Withing 10 minutes I was served my order. The small burger was scrawny, comically hiding in the wrapper and not quite golden crinkle fries. The burger patty was tasty and buns very soft. However, after a not so crazy day of work in L.A., I decided that I should check out Shake Shack. For the past couple of months, my wife had been trying to pull me out of my comfort zone and encourage me to check them out. Putting my stubbornness aside, I entered into the unknown. The cashier patiently waited as I browed the menu. I ended up ordering the "SmokeShack" burger with their cheese fries. Less than ten minutes later my food was hot and ready. I sat down in the "minimalist" themed eating area and prepared to demolish my meal. I try to eat moderately healthy, so I was pleased to see that the size of the burger and fries were well proportioned. In addition, they won my heart with their use of crinkle-cut fries (they bring a sense of childhood nostalgia). The combination of fresh beef, Applewood bacon, and chopped cherry pepper made the "SmokeShack" nothing short of delicious. The cheese fries were piping hot (just as I like them) and flavorful. Although the proportion of fries were small (not an issue if you are on a diet), I felt very content as I happily walked out of the restaurant. I knew Shake Shack was coming to DTLA, but I must've missed the memo on when it opened. Apparently, it's been open for two months! Finally got to try my first shake shack, and it was pricey but I guess lived up to the hype. (being cheap, went for it on Prez day, when street parking is free:) still had to park a block away) Good burger! Got the double smokeshack $9.99 and fries $3.09. Took a while for the line to move and then again to get the food. Had it to go to take back to office a quick 5 min drive away. Burger had great flavor and loved the shake shack sauce! Have had Shake Shack burgers at the opening of the West Hollywood one with always long wait lines. All the burgers seem smallish, but the best to get is The cheese burger shroom stack fully loaded with the garden veggies: lettuce tomatoes onions and pickles is good. Shake shack is one of the new chains slowly but surely making its way into the west coast from the east coast. This location is a couple days young and the service was vibrant and full of energy. And the wait time was pretty good, I waited 10 minutes for my food. They offer condiments, straws, napkins and water on the side. I ordered a shack burger, a lemonade and some fries. The burger would have been perfect had it not been for its assembly. It seemed like the cook just took a burger and stashed tomatoes and lettuce to one side. (sorry if that sounded picky). But despite that it was really good. The meat was very, very, fresh and well cooked, not at all like in-n-out or other burger joints (sorry) and their potato(roll) buns are amazing. I would get it again as long as the tomatoes and lettuce are more evenly distributed. The fries were good, crispy with the right amount of salt, but I think in-n-out is better on that one and same for the lemonade, while I did like it (it wasn't too sweet or sour), i liked theirs better. sorry. The place is busy, the prices are slightly higher, but the food is pretty good, not stellar, but good. Depending on what you order, you may or may not leave full. The double stack is generally pretty filling, especially if you also get some of their crinkle fries. However, the mushroom 'burger' is much more of a Slider-Sized snack; The taste was very good, but it was more of a Button Mushroom, than the Portobello that it is. We ate again after lunch. Even if ordering via the app to avoid lines, you'll most likely still be waiting when you arrive and receiving the text to your phone, but not too long. Let's just be clear: I'm an In N Out girl, forever and ever amen. Haters gonna hate on my indifference toward Shake Shake, but I've never really understood the hype and perhaps I never will. I mean, it's a fine burger, but why is it over twice the price of In N Out? Will some Eastcoaster megafan please explain?! Last time I was here I asked for a lettuce bun, which the staff member made kind of a big deal over (joking that they didn't do that but then confirming yes, they could do that) and then alas, they got the order wrong and put it on bread. It seems like the self serve area is always in need of a refresh but no one is really on top of it. Service here seems seriously lackluster for being in a busy city center like DTLA. The fries are crinkle cut which is interesting and not at all a bad thing. I always order via postmates for delivery and I'm amazed time and again at how attentive they are with the details. My order came in a paper bag with handles and the top was sealed by this sticker strip. If I wanted to order fries, which I'm not inclined to do because I'm not into it, I wouldn't have to worry about the delivery person breathing into my fries. It's the details. Avoid this location like the plague if you're using UberEats. Maybe avoid them entirely since they lack any moral or ethical center. We ordered almost $100 worth of food, and 45 minutes into our wait, our order was cancelled after two drivers changed their mind and then a third just cancelled it entirely. Maybe parking is a problem here, or maybe the kitchen can't get their act together. Who knows. We made the mistake of then making another order of the same items. It was timely, as someone on a bicycle picked it up promptly and delivered it in a timely manner. The problem was that the food he delivered was not our new order. It was the food from the previous order that had already been sitting there for an hour, which had gone cold, stale, soggy, and melted. The restaurant didn't even bother to refire a single thing. That was extremely unethical and downright shitty. Uber Eats will refuse to help you if the food is not the temperature you expect it to be at. You'll just get copy pasted conciliatory messages. If you call it, it will all get filtered to the same people who will copy and past the same conciliatory message without any resolution. There are no avenues for resolution. There's no way to communicate that the restaurant sent you an order that had already expired. Shake Shack, of course, won't take any responsibility for it either. Ordered a veggie and shroom burger through UberEats. Received a grilled cheese that literally looked ran over and a chicken sandwich. The receipt on the bag listed our actual order meaning someone at Shake Shack put the wrong order in the bag. Called the manager, who answered the phone laughing and told her what happened. Always a fan of a Shake Shack burger, especially when I'm all about making bad decisions later on in the night. Stumbled upon this one after an event in DTLA and knew I wanted something with cheese and a side of something fried. I got all that and more. Settled on double Shack Burger, fries and split an order of chicken tenders with the table. The burger came perfectly cooked on that soft bun that everyone loves and because I added the extra patty, it was definitely a gut bomb - something 100% DON'T regret. The fries were great with just the right amount of salt and their chicken nuggets were fab - not too oily, but kept crispy until the end. This location gets crowded, so the later you go, the better the chances you'll snag a table. Firm breading and thick sliced chicken breast meat. Yum! But the bun... Cheap! Flimsy! Along with the lettuce it makes eating the sandwich difficult without unraveling. Shake Shack is really popping up everywhere. I live close to DTLA, so this one's the one I would probably go to. I last went when there was a BOGO on the ShackBurger, and I had it as a lettuce wrap. It was good. I ordered from my app and picked up just fine. When comparing to In-N-Out, I think the differences are marginal it comes down to preferences. The menu at Shake Shack is larger but pricier. I prefer In-N-Out fries. In-N-Out is great, but it's not that great for me to travel to when Shake Shack is close by. Shake Shack has frozen custards and an assortment of desserts, often unique to its geographic area, which sets it apart from a lot of places really. And then another girl came up and shadowed them too. So no orders are coming in and everyone is standing around and there's now 15 people in line. My receipt was for 10:07 when finally young man finally walked over and opened up a second register. On top of that, the young medium complexion girl with dark hair who served my food had the nastiest 3 inch nails with 3 missing. That can't be sanitary when your ratchet nails are not strong enough to stay on so you only have two acrylic nails per hand when serving food!!! For two of us, we ordered two burgers, one fry, one coffee malt and one soda. Burgers and fry was good. Shake came as caramel and had sat around long enough for the whip cream to completely melt on top as a liquid mess. Threw it away. It was cold out but how can you not get a shake at the shake shack! They kept the joint well heated so I had mY $7.00 shake in doors.
