I ordered the chicken shawarma plate.... wow. The chicken was cooked to perfection and the rice was so tasty. It was such a huge portion I could have definitely shared it (but I didn't because it was too good). the salad it came with was absolutely delicious as well as the hummus and pita bread which salad and hummus were also a pretty big portion. $23 for all of that amazing food is a killer deal. the owner is soooo nice as well as the young female cashier. I got the chicken shawarma ($17.99) to bring up to my hotel room at Pechanga nearby. It came with sides of hummus and salad. The salad had a nice olive oil dressing on it with plenty of sliced tomatoes and red onions. It came with warm pita bread on the side. The slices of chicken was moist and had a good amount of seasoning on it. The rice was soft and fluffy. The wait time was not long, the place was clean. Absolutely the BEST Baba Ghonuj & the small order was huge!! Served with warm pita bread...it was the perfect appetizer & side dish! I ordered the gyros platter & my daughter had the special Kufta combo...both were plentiful & delicious! I must also say their hot sauces were fresh & added the perfect kick to the hummus! The Owner stopped by to chat & had some french fries brought over for my Gson! He was so nice & we complimented on how fresh everything was! Ordering was easy but it was disappointing to learn soup options were out of stock and the 1 we ordered was in no way lentil soup. The consistency was inconsistent . Thickness at the bottom and liquid on top. We had to reheat the soup and keep mixing to make it edible. Flavor was heavy salt and just ok. You might want to order ahead of pick up. We waited 25 minutes for our order. The food portions are mostly ample but the over abundance of rice to meat ratio is disappointing, especially for the prices. The toum (garlic sauce) and the spicy sauce are both really good! The beef shawarma is very flavorful. When I visited it was about 12:45 on a Friday. There was one table that had 2 people at it. The manager/owner was very nice. I asked how the red lentils were and he responded that they have the best lentils in Temecula. He also recommended homemade spinach pie or their oregano bread. I let him pair me up with the oregano bread. The food came out quickly and delicious. The flavors in the soup are so comforting. The lentils are fully blended rather than left whole. Omg this place is back thank goodness. Just had lunch and met Sam the newer owner when picking up my takeout order. We stopped coming here when it changed owners a few years back but now it's top notch again! The homemade spinach pies were like my grandmas and we had a chicken shawarma wrap and falafel wrap and they were stuffed with goodness and so flavorful. Seeing all of the 5-star reviews for this place, I was really expecting more. We were visiting the Temecula area for the holidays and I gotta say that I'm used to a lot more taste and quality than I got here. Nothing was bad, but nothing was amazing either. The food was bland-ish, even with hot sauce. The salad had huge chunks of things and unripe tomatoes. It was not a fattoush salad in my book. A few more minutes of cutting would have helped a lot. Falafel and hummus, again, just blah. The tabbouleh lacked acid/citrus. The dolmas were OK, light on the mint and a bit dry. The tastiest thing there was the couple of bites of my kid's gyro wrap that I finished for him and a few fries that I nabbed. I suppose if I got only a wrap and fries, my review would be much better. It is that gyro and fried that makes my review 3 stars instead of 2. In the end, I paid a high price (higher than I'm used to in my normal home area in CA) for meh food and a weird ambiance to eat in. I'm fine with people needing to have their family (young kids) with them at the family business, but when what seems to be a 10-year-old kid is taking my order and running the point of sale and another kid is using the lone TV in the dining area to stream inappropriate social media, it's not comfortable. We found this place to be incredibly expensive $22 for a plate of beef skewers and it only had 5 pieces of beef. They also charged an extra fee for using a credit card, so for 3 beef plates, 2 drinks and tip it totaled out to be $93. Incredibly expensive for it being a order at the counter type of restaurant. The food is good, but rice and salad is very cheap, if it had more beef maybe it would be worth it. The chicken plate was only $2 cheaper and it's a lot less expensive. Overall, this place is really strong, the newer owner is very pleasant and doing a good job! The food was great, especially the chicken shawarma, gyro, salad and hummus. The beef shawarma was very dry. Not reflecting this in the rating but the prices are way to high, we shared a three meat combo plate with no drink and it was over $31 which makes it the most expensive plate of Mediterranean food in the area. What I did different: - did not call my order in this time (unannounced walk-in) - tried something new (chicken kabob plate and baklava) - sat inside the establishment for a bit to get a feel for the ambiance. What they did different: - greeted me properly upon entering - clearly communicated with me as I ordered - gave me actual salad this time - provided all three dipping sauces without asking - thanked me for my business My experience was much better this time around but I'm left wondering if my last experience was simply a fluke or not. I suppose I'll have to continue to patronize Shawarma Grill to get a sense of whether or not the business is truly customer oriented. They have some really great tasting items like the gyro meat and Baklava and their sauces are pretty bomb (try mixing the hot sauce into the hummus). Honestly, this place could easily be my go-to for Shawarma/Kabob in Temecula mainly because the food is decent and it's close enough of a drive. Veggies were not sour as expected on the dressing, which I thought was good. Hummus not super oily; yellow rice not overpowering. Pita nice and puffy and not too much on the puffy. Recommend on both. Falafel. Shut my mouth good! The star of the show: you will never think about chickpeas the same way again. Outside is super crispy-crunchy -- not once losing this throughout the meal and getting all soggy. Tons of pleasant flavor exploding with every bite make this a definite recommend. When I asked about these, the owner told me they are a special recipe he will not part with. In fact, a guy offered many thousands of dollars to buy it, and he declined. Baklava. Home-made. I visited Shawarma Grill for lunch for the first time and was pleasantly impressed. I ordered the combination plate with gyro and chicken. My order came out in a timely manner and the young woman who served me made sure I had everything I needed. The food was very flavorful and plenty.
