Where has this place been all maaaay life? It's basically the shawarma version of Chipotle. There's a place in Dupont Circle called Amsterdam Falafel shop that does something similar, but this place had more protein options other than Falafel. I had the lamb/beef bowl and literally every veggie/sauce you could possibly fit onto it. The people were friendly, if a little confused by my over enthusiasm. We stopped by on our way to National Harbor and picked up a chicken and a beef shawarma. The overall freshness is very good, the portions are also very good. The part that is lacking is the genuine shawarma taste. Sadly, there is only one place I have encountered in the entire DMV with the authentic shawarma flavor. It is also in northern VA. But Shawarma Guys would come second but not a close second at all. My advice at this point is if you're in search of real authentic Lebanese/Levantine food and shawarma..just buy a plane ticket to Detroit and go to Dearborn. BWI to Detroit is only 2hrs, then from the Detroit airport to Dearborn is maybe 15minutes drive/Uber, then you'll be in Shawarma heaven :--) read more

I'm shocked. When this place first opened it was hands down amazing food, and it outpaced all the other local competitors. But one day everything changed. They replaced Kalamata olives with black Italian olives, they decreased their sauce portions from nicely sized cups to teaspoon sized thimbles, and the consistency of the shawarma is lacking. I happened to be in the area and popped in based on the posted menu outside. What a winning decision! I ordered the Shawarma Guys Platter and FEASTED! I loved everything about this platter. First, it was clear that they cook with love. All the flavors were bright and fresh. So many favorites with big stand outs being the chicken shawarma, the hummus, and the falafel, which was perfectly crunchy with the right ratio of crispy outside texture to pleasingly springy middle. The pita bread and pickled veggies gave just the right combo of flavors and textures. I've basically described nearly everything on the plate. Wait, the rice was cooked to perfection. This platter is so reasonably priced and easily provides food for 2 or even 3 meals. I'm sitting here on the day after my visit trying to figure out how I can make an hour and 15 minute drive make sense in order to go back and eat here again. We were excited to try this place since it opened recently and wanted to check it out. We ordered the Shawarma bowls with beef/lamb over rice. The set up is Chipotle style where you start with the base of your bowl and chose your toppings (hummus, cucumber/dill yogurt, onions, feta, etc) - all were delish. We also ordered the falafel and kebbeh appetizers and enjoyed both. We dinned in this time but the place is rather small so you might want to take it to go. The service was friendly and quick. I really enjoy this place! It's definitely a welcome addition to the old and somewhat tired Manchester Lakes shopping center. The place itself is tiny, so you'll be lucky to find a table. However, you can get your food to go (as I have), and the portions are humongous! You make your way towards the back, read the menu/see the ingredients, and customize your meal. The pita sandwiches are super-sized and the rice bowls are more like rice platters filled with yummy ingredients The meats are well-seasoned and cooked. Everything is at the right temperature, and it all tastes fresh. I've gotten a bowl with pretty much all toppings and the spicy tomato chutney. I liked everything together, but I wish there was more variety in the topping options - perhaps fresh cucumber or tomatoes. Secondly, some of the items are overly salty. Thirdly, the spicy tomato chutney isn't really spicy. I've also had the mango lassi and the rice pudding. Both were delicious! The mango lassi had great tanginess and sweetness. The consistency was great. The rice pudding was more gelatinous than I was expecting, but the cinnamon flavor and sweetness were well-appreciated. Bottom line: this is a great spot for quick Mediterranean food that is filling and satisfying. The menu has decent variety of entrees/apps/dessert. The entire family will love it. Love it! Chicken shawarma and beef/lamb shawarma actually made from stacked meat, slow roasted for the juices to drip down!!! Not the "secret meat" generic shawarma you see at most places. They offer rice bowls, salads & pitas and also falafel veggie choices. Fresh toppings include homemade hummus, yummy garlic (!!!), yogurt & cucumber, couscous, parsley, banana peppers, and CILANTRO CHUTNEY!!! Wow, the food tastes fresh and healthy EVERYTIME. The quality is in the consistency of the item choices. Desserts and drinks include baklava and mango lassi, though I haven't tried anything sweet here because the rice bowl is just too much food to consume in 1 sitting. I'm here weekly! Very flavorful. -Chicken tasted good, but we arrived just before closing and it was a little dryer than it looked when I stopped in yesterday. Will be giving it another go earlier in the day. -Garlic spreads is a MUST. It looks like they're putting too much on, but don't worry. It isn't crazy strong, but adds a great flavor. -The pickles and turnips were honestly my favorite topping, but didn't "play well" with the other flavors. Still, they are great on the side for a cleanser every few bites. -Saving the best for last... the Halawit Al Jibin. It's some sweet cheese dessert. I honestly can't say much about what is in it because I don't know. It's amazing, but don't take my word for it. It's $1.25/piece so don't take my word for it, try it. I know I will not leave Shawarma Guys without at least 1 Halawit Al Jibin from now on, I guarantee you. read more

I placed an order via Grubhub on a Saturday afternoon, expecting delivery in approx. 30-40 minutes. The order was delayed three times, for a delivery time 70-80 minutes after time of order. At the 80-minute mark, the order was erroneously marked as having been delievered when it had not. Ninety minutes after ordering, I called the shop to inquire, and they were extremely helpful. They attempted to contact the driver, and when he was unresponsive, without prompting offered an immediate refund. I have visited this shop four times, and have only ever ordered the beef shawarma wrap as a take out. I have no point of reference to say if it is good or bad shawarma, but it makes my tummy happy. When we sat down to eat all I could think was why I wasn't eating at Pizza and Gyro or Moby Dick, both nearby and way better options. The meat here, both the chicken and beef are cooked very dry. You MUST mix with all the toppings in order to get any flavor out of the food and for me that was a major turn off. It also didn't help that we were given such small portions of rice with the bowls. I wasn't greeted and service the entire time I was there was pretty curt and unfriendly. That was literally my first impression. I ordered the chicken shawarma wrap and they filled it up to the brim with all the fixins. I also ordered a side of the grape leaves. The wrap was good, nothing amazing. The grape leaves, however, were puny and flavorless and have definitely seen better days. I miss shawarma and I was super spoiled during my previous life in Toronto, where shawarma is ubiquitous because of the heavy Lebanese population and the late-night hordes hungry for garlic sauce. I'm happy to find Shawarma Guys so conveniently located in Franconia. Shawarma: The sandwiches cost $6.95 whether you want chicken or the beef/lamb combo. I actually prefer the chicken here because the beef/lamb comes out a little dry. The shawarma vertical grill here is a miniature sized tabletop one, far tinier than the towering majestic ones I'm used to seeing in Canada, probably because of the lower foot traffic here. You have your pick of many toppings on display, including sauces and veggies. I would ask them to be more generous with the sauces and use a combination of several, because they make the sandwich much more moist and delicious. Once your sandwich is assembled they panini-press them so they're warm. One complaint I have is they're a tad slower than I'm used to .. heaven forbid there be a lineup here. Luckily they take online ordering so you could always save time. They even do delivery! read more
