This is located in the bustling food truck park on Rainey. I checked in this time, and Yelp had a 20% off deal. The employee said he had never heard of it before, but he honoured it. This was very kind of him to do. I do hope it is a real check-in offer and that it is consistently honoured. I've gotten the chicken shawarma plate here twice, and I've enjoyed it. It doesn't compare to Halal Bros or Kismet, but it's not bad. The portion is a decent size, and the price is reasonable. With the discount, I paid $10.36. After an exhausting afternoon at ACL boy were we happy to find this place! This place served up delicious food and we were so thankful that ACL was inclusive enough to include halal food. I had a string fries craving so we got the beef and lamb gyro over fries and it did not disappoint. I was worried that the fries might get soggy but they didn't and salty fries mixed with spiced meat, creamy white sauce and feta and zingy red sauce was arguably perfection. The owner seemed really nice and even gave us more halal recommendations for other vendors at ACL which was super nice of him!! This is like reaaallllly close to a five but not quite. It's a food truck at UT near the intersection of W. 21st and Whitis, making it a quick jaunt from Calhoun Hall, my academic Batcave. I ignored it for years because most of the UT food trucks are lame, and now I regret it. So, you can get your stuff as a plate or wrap (get the latter), with beef/lamb, chicken, or falafel as the main. You should get the last one to be good people, but also because the falafel is crunchy and made-to-order and glorious in all known ways. Spice is a game here. The owner/operator is friendly and cool, and so are the other people I've dealt with, but the spice levels (ranging, bluntly and hilariously, from "no spice" to "white people spicy" to "brown people spicy") will require you to assert yourself. (This is also true of all Thai places.) Speak up if you want it spicy, and let them know that you mean it in your soul, or they might downgrade you. Truth. So, it's about ten bucks, it's good, and it's hot if you plead your case. Can't think of any better truck options around and it provides an alternative to Teji's, lackluster Dobe Mall carryout, or Chipotle. Check it out. Protip: hummus and pita is $2 off with a student or staff ID, so be sure to ask. read more

While in Austin for my boyfriend's birthday, one of our must-do's was go to Rainey and check out the food trucks. I wanted a gyro SO bad, and was so excited to see Shawarma Point. The computer went down while I was ordering, but the gentleman helping us still took, made and brought me my order. He even went so far as to try give us the gyro for free for the inconvenience (there wasn't one, it was amazing and very quick). I noticed a sign for Shawarma as I was heading home one day and I had to stop by. I tried the wrap with beef/lamb and hummus and asked for it to be fairly spicy. It was awesome! I am quite opinionated about shawarma - I feel like people tend to either make it too dry or too greasy. I thought that the meat was moist, not greasy (YUM!). I also loved the fact that they did not skimp on the veggies and were generous with the sauce and hummus. I plan on going back to try out the salad. There should be a ton of chatter about this spot - it's fantastic. From a purely cosmetic standpoint, the logo is clever and bright (super attractive). This is my go to place in west campus for shawarma/halal. I typically get the beef/lamb wrap (with brown people spice level- interesting metric for spice level, but they don't mess around with their red sauce) and it is always consistently delicious. Quality meat, pita, veggies, and of course, sauce. Reasonable price for UT students too. Can't recommend this place enough if you're looking for a good shawarma wrap/plate near campus. EDIT: Unfortunately, I have since been forced to change my review. The food remains great. However, the fact that they accept online orders (which, mind you, requires you to pay upfront), when they are closed is absolutely ridiculous. I tried to order food online (during normal working hours as listed on google), placed my order of about $20, but when I arrived at the truck, it was completely unstaffed and closed. My first thought was to call their number as listed on google. Yet, the phone number listed on google is actually for some young kid, who had no idea why I was calling. After, I decided to attempt to contact them online, but I have not received a single response. No restaurant establishment should use an online ordering system, if they are going to allow people to order when they are closed. This truck really needs to figure out a better way of posting hours and taking online orders if I am to reconsider my review. EDIT #2: my complaints and issues were solved quickly by the owners. Yeah buddy this is place to get your Shawarma on! I really enjoyed eating here. It brought back some memories when I serverd over in the Middle East during my miltiary career. I have not had Shawarma since I was last over there. It was definitely great tasting! I will agree with others the meat was not cut like they do over in the middle east. The staff was very friendly and were excited to know I knew what a Shawarma was. I definitely recommend folks to try it. White boy was pretty spicy but not to spicy hot for your taste buds. I am going to have to try the Brown Boy hot next time. Food was very tasty, very well cooked, and I felt like a VIP when ordering my food from the truck. This food truck was at the Ohana Festival in Dana Point, CA two weeks ago and they are a complete scam. First of all, the food was awful, that might be expected at a music festival, although a gyro was $16, so that really sucks. But yeah, food sucked. That's not why I'm writing this review. The workers of the truck are scamming people out of money on tips. I order 2 sandwiches, which should have come to $32, I know ridiculous, right? Still, not why I'm writing. My total came to $40, very quickly, and I was trying to get out of the way of the next people in a very long line. I suddenly realized how much this cost, and I stepped up on a stool to inquire. They said, "Oh you tipped $8." I corrected them and said I did no such thing. They asked me how much I meant to tip, and I felt on the spot, so I said $3. They refunded me $5. The point is, I was never asked how much I want to tip on the original purchase. This is a scam, and the owners should know about it. Buyer Beware. People are crooked. No complaints on anything from salad to shwarma to rice. Everything was spot on. For the proximity to campus and it's bustling competitors, I'm pretty satisfied. I came looking for a decent mediterranean meal and pretty low expectation and left full and thinking I'll come back. Don't be fooled, for being a food truck, they have great catering options as well! I would definitely advise against ordering from this food truck. The lamb and beef gyro is disgusting. It's mushy ground meat, mostly fat. I'm used to having thinly shaved meat in gyros, not mush. There was very little white sauce added on top, and way too much lettuce. The chicken was better, but still not worth returning for. Also, seeing as though they are parked at football games, festivals, etc in hot weather, maybe sell COLD water bottles? The falafel boasts solid flavor, though lacking that crispy fried texture. Atop a salad, I found the feta and tzaziki nice touches, but the canned black olives disappointed. Hits and misses alike in their offerings. On the whole, a pretty middle-of-the-pack food truck. I tried out Shawarma point at Mala Luna Music Festival, and I have to say I wish there was a location in San Antonio! The falafel was great and crispy, yet soft on the inside. The ratio of vegetables to falafel and pita bread was great, not a lot was falling out. The lady who took our orders was helpful and kind. However what really won my heart were the seasoned fries. The white sauce and spicy sauce were a great addition to the seasoned fries, we piled on the sauces and then my friends and I devoured them.
