Closer to 3.5 stars. Cute concept, and executed fairly well, but at the end of the day, the food should reign supreme, and while the food here wasn't terrible, it wasn't fantastic either. The pork belly Benedict was decent, and the pancakes weren't bad at all. We added chocolate chips and syrup which added to the cost. My mimosa was also pretty good, I just wasn't terribly impressed with any of it. Service was prompt and friendly. Place was spacious; we were lucky to get a table in 20 min; the place gets packed quick. My 5-year old daughter liked it enough for me to come back, but not sure if I would if it was just me

Local, fresh and friendly service with pretty incredible pancakes. The menu is great, sure they sell pancakes and you can even be the master of making your own tableaux but the banana bread French toast is pretty amazing too. There are monthly specials, burritos and even booze if you are feeling so inclined. Making reservations comes in handy at this family friendly breakfast spot, it's no wonder they are voted best in breakfast.

If you're looking for a place the kids and adults will love, this is it! We ate here 3 times in the week we stayed on the island. Build your own pancakes right at the table! Staff were quick and restaurant was clean. It's a large place but fills up quick. I recommend going earlier and get there right at opening.

Quick and friendly service, the decor is super cute and the restaurant is clean. I ordered the loaded potatoes with bacon and absolutely LOVED it. Super filling and very tasty, the peppers in the potato mix were a great addition. My husband got the grand slap which he enjoyed and my girls shared pancakes. The strawberry jam is DELICIOUS!!!!!!! We have gone back two more times as we liked it so much!

Very bust spot so took a while to get our food but was so simple and delicious! My husband got the cinnamon roll pancakes and I just got regular pancakes with some macadamia nuts. Huge portions, we couldn't even finish either of our plates.

Great little spot for a family with hungry kids. Had no idea what we were walking into but we were pleasantly surprised. You MAKE your pancakes at the table. Such great idea and the batters were great! I had the Loco Moco and it did not disappoint. Drinks pancakes and my breakfast were around $110.00 for 2 kids and 2 adults.

Delicious food and coffee! I came for breakfast and sat at the bar. Really helpful bartenders and loved the fun colors and decor inside. Would definitely come again. Got a cinnamon roll cake and it was delicious

Although they primarily serve pancakes their avacado toast is so good! Fun and family friendly environment

I was really looking forward to Slappy Cakes but it did not live up to the hype. They are extremely stingy on toppings. I ordered the Elvis pancakes and I didn't even receive half of a banana. Mind you the small pinch of bacon and peanut butter. The taste of the pancakes was decent but I'm not sure how you can really go wrong with pancakes, for $16 id expect a lot more. I'd recommend trying out some other small cafes for pastries and coffee instead of Slappy Cakes.

Significant other and I went to have breakfast at this location in Maui, If I could give this location a ZERO , It would definitely qualify because the food was disgusting pancakes were soggy. Potatoes were cold and the customer service was also a ZERO. Don't waste your money!!!! They should change their name SLOPPY CAKES!!!!!

This place opens early in the morning for breakfast, especially for those travelers traveling east. They have a hot griddle on each table to make pancakes live (make your own) which probably is a great experience and tasty as well. We although went for their avocado toast - not what they are known for and neither they should be. Nothing extraordinary there, but micro greens make it look fancy at the least. Ambience is good and service decent. Not every place on the island that's highly rated is great and this serves for a great example.

The pictures do it no justice. Slappy cakes was awesome!!!!! Came here for breakfast and wanted loco moco & pancakes to fuel us before we hit the beach. Husband and I were really happy with the food & service. Loco moco was one of the best I had on the island and the perfect portion for breakfast. The pancakes were so yummy too!!! . We came right as they were opening and got seated quickly. Clean & huge inside. Staff were so friendly and overall great dining experience. 10/10 food 10/10 service

Must stop when the nephews are here to visit. They love making their own pancakes. Gotta keep a close eye on them at 5 & 8 with a burner on the table but we always have a lot of fun. It's great for families with kids, quick pace and loud (so you don't have to worry about kids making noise). I always get the breakfast burrito and they get pancakes with fruit. We all leave full and happy!

Ask the Community - Slappy Cakes

I've seen lots of mixed reviews. What should I expect going here in June - July 2025?

Just plan accordingly. It's busy on weekends, but usually there's no line if you show up right when they open. If you're from the mainland a visit to Slappy Cakes is always worth it. Get the griddle table, create some fun edible art and if you're…

So you have pancake batter without eggs?

Yes! They have the best gluten free & vegan pancakes!

We are a party of 9 (5 adults, 4 small children). Do they have adequate seating for that?

    Yes

    Can you make reservations?

I don't believe you can. And they did have limited space seating when I was last there. We had a very short wait before being called in to sit. And it was DEFINITELY worth it!!

    Are there vegan options?

There are a few vegan options. You can check out a menu on their website.

    Do you need a reservation?

No reservations aren't required, but it gets busy and you may have a line of people in front of you.

Can the loco moco be made gluten free?

Probably not as you can remove the onion straws but the gravy almost certainly has some flour in it.

Do they have vegan or egg-free batter?

Yes!!! They have vegan & gluten free batter & it's DELICIOUS!!! Definitely try it!

    Are sundays busy?

It seems like every day is busy, but if you don't mind eating at the bar then you will gwt a seat a lot faster. So worth it!!!
