I would give an extra1/2 star if possible because I wanted to like it more! I know this place is very popular as an iconic landmark type restaurant in LA. The building is beautiful and inside equally. Big comfy red old school steakhouse feel with celeb pictures everywhere, beautiful. The outside area is cute and relaxing. This and the seafood selections were my fave. Pretty much it stops there. The service was also very good. A+ for this! ( we were here for the brunch) The food was good the salads were all tasty, basic breakfast food, omelets, bacon and sausages. Very basic nothing special. Garlic bread, meh okay nothing special. The hot selections of meats were good tri tip and turkey fine. Prime rib would have been better as the beef option. Ribs were okay again nothing special overload of sauce IMHO. Crepes were good. They also had a variety of desserts that I didn't try. They looked good though. The seafood was outstanding and for that worth the trip although not a huge selection. The crab legs and oysters and mussels, fresh peel and eat shrimp were wonderful. Love their cocktail sauce and fresh horseradish. My husband loved their lox with all the fixings. The Prosecco/sparkling wine we didn't care for although they were very generous with pours It was probably one of the worst generic type wines. We go to lots of mimosa brunches and we know most use these generic bottles of bubbly well this had no bubbles whatsoever lol or flavor. This being said I feel like lots of old school restaurants like this get stuck in time warp ruts that probably worked decades ago so they don't change up or modernize. I think this is probably the case here. Maybe get a chef to modernize their recipes to update to what other brunch buffets do well in 2024? Just my two cents. I wish I could give zero stars. To keep it short, there was a cockroach crawling on the wall of the restaurant. I approached the manager about it. I came back to find the waiter smashing it on the booth next to where my mother was sitting. The manager gave us a measly $13 discount and refused to comp the meal. We had a five hour flight delay to come to LA for ours and friends birthday weekend and looked forward to sharing the Smokehouse Restaurant with them. Not a good start to our evening. We come all this way and have a restaurant with a lack of direction, poor communication, hostess station not well defined. If you are not standing right by them, you will NOT hear your name called. Get a pager system or better communication process. Why have a reservation, doesn't seem to mean much. Their only saving grace is the food. Seems they have become complacent and take the customers for granted. Not sure about a next visit, have to think about the effort to get here the poor experience tonight. read more

Wonderful place to eat if you don't have to go to the dining area to the right which isn't nearly as nice as the other dong area. However, I really enjoyed that they had their holiday decorations up a few days past the New Year. I sat in the lounge as I was solo and had the best service from the bartender Gary. He is old school and makes you feel very welcome, especially if you're dining solo. He was also very generous to the other guests there as well. Had a dinner there for my cousin on his birthday the year before but we had been put in that side area room and service was good but steaks were over cooked. My entire family had looked at the regular menu beforehand and had specific dishes in mind, but most of them weren't available. I get that holidays can change things, but it would've been nice to know in advance. Our waitress was also surprisingly rude. She cut us off mid-sentence, questioned our order choices in a way that felt condescending, and kept getting things wrong despite us repeating ourselves several times. It made what should've been a special family meal feel tense and frustrating. The food itself was just okay. The famous garlic bread didn't live up to the hype - it didn't really taste like garlic bread, more like it was dusted with powdered mac and cheese mix. Overly salty and not balanced at all. I truly wanted to love this place. I've heard so much about it and had high hopes because of its legacy. But overall, it fell flat. I came here on an early Sunday evening with a group of four friends. I've never been here before but it was certainly an interesting place. It's an old school steakhouse with matching vibe, definitely a throwback to the 50's/60's. First, our service was impeccable. We were seated quickly and out waitress took great care of us. Service was fast from drink service to our apps and meals. Definitely a plus, as steakhouses can be hit or miss on wait time--and the place was very busy so definitely honorable mention for that. I got the filet mignon and vegetables with sweet potato fries, and the steak was definitely cooked to order and tasty. This place truly gives you the nostalgic old-school steakhouse dining memory you loved growing up. The inside is warm, comforting and classy. Being decorated for the holidays added an extra cozy touch with their crackling fire! Service was friendly and they accommodated our large group easily. The inside is very spacious and seemed to be able to hold many parties. As for dinner, the warm bread was SO delicious with a cheesy topping that was unique and gone in seconds when brought out. The jumbo shrimp cocktail was nice to include 5 large shrimps instead of the usual 4. Clam chowder had great flavor! Drinks were great with a beautiful presentation. I payed with a 10 dollar bill and the buy there asked if I wanted change. I think it is ridiculous to even ask that. Of course I want my change! But it got worse: someone else asked for their car and the guy just ignored me from then on. He got someone else to get my car to me and "forgot" I asked for my change. If you come here, be prepared for a really weird environment. I came here a couple days ago and manager (David) was touching his employees completely inappropriately in the back, it made my wife and I uncomfortable to see. An employee even let my wife and I know this is something normal for David to do with his employees. On top of that, when I went to the restroom there was 2 employees so drunk and smelling like alcohol. Overall, coming here was uncomfortable and seeing the men groping each other should not be something you should have to see while just trying to eat. The so called general manager (David) should not hold this kind of position at this iconic restaurant!!! My wife had lunch with her girlfriend a week before Christmas with her girlfriend and ordered 4-loafs of garlic bread for pickup on Christmas Eve! I went to pick up the bread and nobody could locate my wife's order, now my order is $8 more than originally quoted! David accused my wife of thinking she ordered it but actually did not! That's insulting and he's very fortunate that I didn't lose it! I'm a disabled American veteran and on a fixed income, $8 is $8! It started with us arriving at 4:30 PM on a Sunday afternoon to an empty lot with 4 valets standing around doing nothing and an $8 Valet Parking sign. We had no choice but to valet with no option to park ourselves. With a reservation we walked into a quiet restaurant with just 2 booths occupied in the dining room. The blond haired hostess took us (2 women) to a secluded booth next to the kitchen door in the back dining room. From there you couldn't even see the main dining room. I was so shocked with an empty dining room to be seated in that claustrophobic booth. I jumped up and ran to the hostess who sat us there, and told her, we're not sitting in a booth next to the kitchen door when I drove over an hour to come here for dinner. Her response was, "That's George Clooney's table" I said, "Well let him sit there and put us in a booth in the main dining room please." (See photo I took of how empty the room was as she choose such a hidden booth. The menu is very large, and we started with an appetizer of stuffed mushrooms, that were so over salted, it ruined the dish. Yuck! My friend ordered garlic bread with her rib eye steak, and I had the barbecue ribs, thinking I wanted the Chicken Buena Vista or Salmon on the plank, but I was in a Smokehouse specialty restaurant. I really wish I went with my real choices, the ribs were OK, not great, I order the sweet potato fries with it and couldn't flag the server down for ketchup, so I ate them without it. As many people have written as I looked down the reviews, "I too was very disappointed and guess I won't be returning" I must say the inside atmosphere was that of the old fashioned NYC Italian restaurant, which I love coming from NYC. I also was very disappointed to see how people came in the restaurant after us, dressed so inappropriately, a man even wearing a white T-shirt. I have visited the Smoke House many times over the last decade; sometimes for dinner other times for the delicious Sunday brunch. Both the food and the service have been consistently excellent. I would describe the ambiance as classic elegance. When my father recently passed away, the Smoke House stepped up to the plate with almost no advance notice, and hosted the reception. I highly recommend others make a reservation because they made it sound like we had the last table of the night at like 5:30pm. They taught having the worlds greatest garlic bread here, and I'm not gonna lie, it's true. The garlic bread here is so thick with cheese and garlic and deliciousness. Oh my goodness! My mouth waters just thinking about it. You must get it, and even if you're tempted to get the half order because you're a party of two, or even a party of one. Do what we did and get the full order, and then have leftovers. This carb filled bit of happiness cannot be matched. I'm not gonna lie, I filled up on the bread, and basically had two bites of my meal, and took the rest to go. I had to still save them for dessert! However, those two bites of prime rib were very tasty. My friend and I were both really pleased with our meals. The chocolate lava cake was warm, gooey perfection, harmoniously pairing with their vanilla ice cream. Such a fun experience here and so happy the food is great and the service is even better. I was pleasantly surprised to see the daily specials list and quickly decided to try the Thursday offering, the Shrimp Scampi with one side for $20. That turned out to be a fantastic idea. But I'm getting ahead of myself. We were shown to a celebrity booth (Gary Marshall). Next time I'm going to request a table - the rounded booth was feeling its age. We quickly ordered some of the "world's greatest garlic bread" and agree with the moniker. You simply must order this - it is delicious. My SO had the Barbecued Combination... $25 for two choices from the BBQ menu and two sides - a really great deal. He chose the tri-tip and the half rack of ribs and was knocked out. I was going to try the ribs but was so immersed in my shrimp scampi (swimming in a delicious buttery cream sauce - no pasta) I completely forgot to. Service was professional and old school, just like you expect. Valet was $8 when we went in... price had gone up to $11 for dinner hours (but we only had to pay $8). I have been frequenting the smokehouse for 30 years. I love its traditional, dining style and delicious Famous cheesy garlic bread. It's a spirited place for happy hour on any night. I usually order the prime rib but yesterday I ordered the Sinatra pasta and this is the second time I have had this dish which is quite tasty but I swear that some of the 'filets' that are in there are pieces of liver. I love Smoke House for its ambience and amazing Garlic Cheese Bread! Not only is this historic establishment located right across the street from Warner Brothers, the Ryan Gosling piano scene with J.K. Simmons in La La Land was filmed in their lounge. My personal favorites are the steak frites and ribs, but most people prefer the prime rib sandwich. I love this place for its history and charm, and visit it several times a year. Second time here. Made a reservation for 8:00pm, arrived at 7:45pm. Was told by the front desk 'it's going to be a little wait' same as the previous time. So, we went to the bar to grab a drink. Two drinks later, we see multiple people who arrived after us get seated. We waited at the bar until 8:50pm- during that time, my husband asked the head server why people kept getting seated before us and he kept promising us the next table. There was another couple in exactly the same situation just waiting around for almost an hour just trying to get seated. After waiting over 1 hour without being seated for a reservation, we lost the will and left. We had to pay valet for literally no reason and couldn't eat the food we wanted. The organization here is a joke. Not being able to sit multiple reservations within an hour or a seat and favoring random people who waltz in later is not ok with me. The food has never been good, you go for the atmosphere and kitsch decor but the service didn't allow us to even enjoy that. I would advise management to figure out their team and get them to understand basic hospitality practices. I don't know why anyone would ever go back there after the experience I had when you can go to Musso&Frank and the service is repeatedly impeccable. read more

Think of Smoke House as a level in between Outback Steakhouse and Morton's. This is true in the area of service, quality, ambiance and price. The service was quite good and professional. The menu was expansive focusing on steaks and barbecue and also several seafood, salad and pasta options. A $17 dirty martini was served with a huge side car kept on ice making it more like a triple serving. Great value but there was far too much olive juice. The bacon wrapped scallops were divine but the accompanying sauce was weak. My Caesar salad was tasty but limp. My filet was delicious but the side scampi was terrible. Good shrimp but the sauce was dead. Very fresh and crisp veggies. My family all enjoyed their meals, especially Mom and the staff did fun rendition of the birthday song. I think we heard it eight times around the place that evening. Lots of older couples celebrating birthdays, younger families celebrating graduations, folks dressed in coats and ties enjoying steak and wine, and dudes in shorts with baseball caps chomping on ribs and beers. We had a wonderful family party at the Smokehouse for my aunt's 90th birthday. The best part of all was having a private room with our own dedicated wait staff. Fourteen of us were able to mingle with cocktails and then gather around one table with no one else in our area. The Fireside room was perfect with its inviting fireplace to add to the atmosphere. It's like the Burbank version of Damon's except Damon's looks less old and the food is more consistent at Damon's. If I were to grade a normal lunch or dinner here at the Smoke House, I would say it's a decent place to go. The food is fine. The atmosphere is a little dated, which is part of the charm for some people. Your mileage may vary. HOWEVER, the Sunday brunch is EXCELLENT. I cannot rave about it enough. The price is just right, not cheap mind you but reasonable for what you get, and the quality of the food blows the regular menu out of the water! You would think that a buffet would make quality go down, but oh no, not here! Everything is significantly more delicious during Sunday brunch buffet time.
