Came here on a Saturday around 8pm. A lot of restaurants in this area didn't have reservation or walk-in availability but there was no wait here! The ambiance was lovely, there were a lot of interior tables along with seating near the bar in an indoor/outdoor setup. A lot of outdoor patio seating as well. Our bartender, Brandon, was absolutely spectacular. My friend got an espresso martini (made custom with tequila) and it was delicious. I ordered the salmon, I didn't specify a temperature when I ordered it but I'd recommend medium or anything a little bit less than the default temp here. It was seasoned very nicely and came with a side of little potatoes wedges and crispy cabbage. I also ordered a side of mashed potatoes, they were wonderful!! To start this was one of the best meals I have had. Zachary was the best server and made our experience all the better. So charming and helpful with so many great suggestions. We started with the fried green tomatoes, she crab soup and a salad. Our main dishes were the short rib and the fried chicken. The fried chicken was the moistest, crispiest, well seasoned chicken ever. I highly recommend it. The Mac and cheese was creamy and delicious. I always enjoy Soby's. We couldn't decide where to go for lunch after church but after much debate...we landed at Soby's downtown on Main Street. The weather cooperated and I discovered that they offer valet parking!! I have horrible allergies so I never choose the option to eat outside but they have a very charming patio where patrons can eat outside, enjoy the weather and bring their pups! Inside of the establishment has a lofty (somewhat) industrial feel to it that is very welcoming. It has, brick walls, high ceilings, an open kitchen area and an upstairs loft for additional seating They were serving brunch today and thankfully they had items on the menu that accommodated all of our dietary restrictions. I ordered Crab Cakes with Sweet Corn Maque Choux, Haricot Verts, Remoulade, and Crispy Potatoes. My son ordered the Fried Chicken, Mac N Cheese and Crispy Potatoes and his girlfriend ordered the Anson Mills Grit Bowl with Sherry Glazed Dark Spore Mushrooms, Confit Tomatoes, Broccolini and Fine Herbs. We recently enjoyed a long weekend in Greenville, and we were very surprised at what a foodie town this little city is. We loved the downtown area, and saw so many positive reviews for this place, we made a reservation even though the best time we could get was 8:30 for dinner. When we arrived, there was still a wait, which we know happens sometimes. This is a bigger place than you realize, when we were finally called, we went all the way to the back and up a flight of stairs. Our table overlooked the kitchen, that's kind of cool. The food was all very good, I must say. Everyone says order the crab bisque, so we did. Very good. Even better when you use the biscuits to sop up the last little bits. We shared the Southern Fried Chicken... very good as well. The server knew we were celebrating an anniversary, so he brought us a banana creme pie. I can see why folks enjoy it, even though we could only eat a bite or two. We thought about bringing home leftovers, but if you are visiting this area, know that everywhere is very walkable... so you're likely to not get your car out until you're heading home. We go to Soby"s regularly, especially before attending a concert or a show downtown. It didn't disappoint until today. It wasn't the ambiance or the service but the kitchen. My country fried steak was the most abismal meal I've had, hands down. I've had country fried steak and chicken fried steak all over the country and have never been served a so under prepared, gristle laden, over salted piece of meat. It was about 3/4" thick and obviously wasn't tenderized with a mallet to break down the muscle fiber before preparing for cooking. I had to have ginger chewies to calm down my stomach before going to the Peace Center. Soby's, it you can't cook it right, take it off your menu. read more

You can tell that Soby has established itself as a strong withstanding restaurant in the Main St Greenville area. A good restaurant to stop by with family, including kids and grandparents, as there is something on the menu for everyone. While the cuisine, itself, isn't extraordinary, it is consistently good. What we found impressive is their attention to evolve with a) the times and b) the growing diversity of greenville's visitors and new residents. There's action being taken to meet consumers' interests, such as incorporating more local ingredients (like South Carolina Peaches on the French toast) and creative culinary dishes, like the salmon avocado toast. The shrimp and grits had plenty of shrimp, and satisfied both appetite and hunger. While TopSoil in Traveler's Rest had a superb Shrimp and Grits, Sobys certainly met the expectations. read more

It's a wonderful place for date night or just a lovely dinner. You can request a table in the front by the windows to take in the view of the street or they have outside space with twinkle lights too. They have a lovely loft space. Be sure to check out brunch too! The eggs Benedict is tasty and the pecan bun is absolute perfection! The she crab soup is delicious too! The staff are friendly and very professional. I thought I shared about my wonderful experience at Soby's. There was a lot right next to the restaurant that was valet and operated by tip-based. The gentlemen were very nice.    I loved the atmosphere. There's outside patio seating, and then the inside is open. They also have an upstairs, which is where we sat. It was small but nice for a small group dining affair. Everyone was pleasant and friendly. They also provided great service.   The crab cake with the remoulade was delicious. It was a good size as well. The caesar salad was amazing, along with the cheddar biscuits. The braised short rib was really good. The macaroni and cheese was okay. Soby's was recommended by our hotel and we were told by our concierge that it has "won several dining awards" but they must be based on industry politics because this place was just not it. The food itself was mediocre and nothing profound at all. The service is also mediocre and the building is nothing great. For the price go elsewhere. Wouldn't recommend nor go back ... it is overpriced. Reminds me of Applebees, about the same quality but much more expensive. read more

I could see when plates were put on the table for servers to pick up and our meals were not sitting for long. Cons: I ordered the Fried Chicken with Mac and cheese, haricots beets (also known as green beans). I give this meal a 2/10. Again the meal was hot, but I didn't care for the Mac and cheese with ham chunks or the chicken. I couldn't quite put my finger on what was off, but I just didn't enjoy it. What I did see that looked really good was the shrimp and grits and salmon and avocado. I will try again to give this place another try. read more

The only thing better than the food at Sobys, is the service. Candace was incredible! So attentive, so accommodating - it was as if you were having dinner in her own home and everything had been personally prepared. The venison best I've ever had. The shrimp and grits and the fried chicken I was nibbling off my children's plates. The truffle Mac is so decadent! Candace provided butter and honey with the most delicate biscuits. My son was insatiable. A very memorable dinner and a wonderful introduction to Greenville. I would strongly recommend to anyone who comes into town that your first meal is at Sobys. Last night at home, enjoying a dinner of hot dogs and homemade coleslaw, my wife suggested that it was much better than our Soby's experience. She was entirely correct. Our server ( Zachary) was great. ( One Star ) The ambiance was very enjoyable ( Add Another Star). The rest was truly lame: Poor menu variety, steak not cooked to order, cold soup, waaaay too much salt, miniscule portions. Summary? Fine dining at its worst. Almost 5 full stars here. Great spot. Highly recommend. Would definitely come back here. Fried green tomato blt is delicious. The pimento cheese puts it over the top with flavor. Crab cake is another level. Just delicious. (Apparently award winning). The beet salad is really delicious. I think the only reason I did not give a full 5 stars is that I wish they offered the option of 2 crab cakes with the salad. The crab cake portion would be perfect with 2. (Which is I believe how they serve the entree version with potatoes. I tried to order the entree & sub the potatoes for salad. So we may have had a bit of confusion in ordering. And maybe I'm just craving another crab cake as I'm writing about them.) Service was top notch. Friendly. Attentive. Multiple staff checked on our table.
