Great food! My coworker and I stopped by for lunch and ordered the sofreh kabob tray for 3 people and it was delicious. I enjoyed the chicken, the rice especially and the side of baba ghanoush. Everything came out fresh! We had a catering order for the next day and the cashier Aime was very helpful with us. She answered all of our questions. My wife and I went to this spot for the first time today and had the Chicken Shish and the Beef Lule with a side of fries for a nibble! And let me tell ya we ordered the plate to share and it was huge! Enough for us to share and both feel very satisfied. When you walk in through the front gate you order your food and they give you a little pager to let you know when the order is ready. I ordered the chicken and steak Kabob plate, it comes with a salad, pita bread, hummus, and rice. It was a really good meal, everything was made fresh, and the food was flavorful. First come first seat. Seating is best for 2-4people. Tables include hand sanitizer. Even though the patio area is designed with artificial plants, mix with tiny amount of real plants, it's actually feels like a tiny paradise space in east LA. East LA and heritage photos designed around the walls were such a nice touch. Dairy free meats include lamp and chicken. I changed out the rice (with butter) to pita bread. So my $22 chicken and lamb chops dish actually became a pork chop and chicken salad in their view. I asked them for no dairy on my salad and plate overall. Food: Sofreh plate with the addition of Gyros: We were a party of five and the Sofreh plate alone was more than enough to satisfy our hunger: the plate contained chicken kabobs, lamb chops, beef lule etc. along with a big plate of basmanti rice on the side. When the food came, the whole presentation looked like something one would see on a food documentary: it was a feast that spread beautifully on our table. My friends and I were in awe with how generous the portions were. I've had my share of Mediterranean food but none could match Sofreh's level of culinary execution. The meats: the chicken kabobs, the beef lule, and the gyros, all had their distinct inherent flavors aside from the flavors that were imparted by the spices/seasonings. I especially enjoyed the beef lule because the meat was tender and succulent. The gyros were the best I've had to date in Los Angeles: it was tender, flavorful, wholesome, and there was a smoothness to its texture that was absent in other gyros I've had over the years at other Mediterranean restaurants. Drinks: Turkish coffee: The Turkish coffee was good in the sense the brew was clean, smooth, and without any astringency. Dessert: Baklava: I love a good baklava especially if it were stuffed with walnuts as opposed to pistachios. Fortunately, the baklava at Sofreh was the former variety which was a plus in my book. The baklava's texture was smooth and wholesome and its sweetness delicate with each bite. It complemented the Turkish coffee perfectly. Ambiance: Casual, clean, relaxing, and classy. I went here with my two best friends after the roulette told us to. We got the beef lover and we all thought it was a lot. It was a total of $45, $15 each for it which we thought was really worth. My personal thoughts were that the meat was great. It was tender and not dry. It was decently seasoned and filling. We couldn't finish it though and had a to go. This was kind of on us but we went on a cloudier day and it was freezing cold. There wasn't any heater and the fan was on which didn't help. I'm really disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. The person who took our order was incredibly unhelpful. He barely spoke, was distracted by his phone, and didn't make us feel welcome at all, especially since we were first-timers. My wife ordered a Greek salad, and she was really let down by the dressing. It tasted just like the cheap Olive Garden Italian dressing, which was nothing like what she expected. When we asked a worker about it, she confirmed it was Italian dressing but didn't even offer to replace the salad or help in any way. Not a great first impression at all. Wouldn't recommend it. Also, the hummus was horrible. The Greek salad was nothing Greek. We will have a great day, great customer service. Go on your phone. read more
