Not worth it! It would better for you to just drive to LA. The fish was chewy and nice but all of the Nutella was in the bottom so I couldn't get the full taste when I first bit into it. I ordered Ube and it tasted nothing like it. It tasted like pure cream and sugar. My sister ordered the Oreo and Milk and it had a plain taste of vanilla. They serve a soft serve ice cream with a variety of flavors. Their cones are unusual in the shape of a fish which is fun and unique. I found the ice cream average. The texture was a foamy, whipped consistency lacking in the crunch texture. I purchased cookies and creme which usually has cookie bites throughout the ice cream. You can add toppings to bring the texture but it's not quite the same. I prefer the cookie pieces throughout. I was not a huge fan but for soft serve folks, I'd check it out. read more

I used to get taiyaki at Japan Town in San Fran when I was young, so I was excited to see that this treat existed near me as an adult. A treat it was not. Somi Somi's taiyaki is terrible! The filling was hardly a smear on the inside of the nasty waffle fish (I got red bean, Nutella, and custard). Whatever batter they use is not the traditional Japanese recipe that I'm used to. I really did not want to leave this review but I came to visit and decided to stop by for dessert. I ordered the upside down ahbiong with matcha ice cream and the new/limited time hotteok taiyaki. The taiyaki was okay, the filling was good because it's hard to mess that up. However, it was a bit undercooked, so there were raw parts. My issue today was the cleanliness. The matcha lid I had asked for had quite a bit of dust and little hairs. I just scraped off the ice cream and transferred it to a bowl because as I was eating, I saw more tiny hairs and particles along the rim of the cup and in my ice cream. After scraping, I wasn't left with that much ice cream... I was pretty disgusted so I ended up just tossing it. Love the ice cream here! They have fun flavors like matcha and horchata! It's always smooth and creamy. I bought taiyaki on the side instead of the upside down the last time I went and unfortunately both taiyaki were undercooked - I could even squeeze the dough out. We had already gotten to our car so I didn't take the ten minute walk back to ask for new ones. Just ate the bits that were mostly cooked. This is my first time trying SomiSomi and I had a really good experience! I came in with a group of 10 (or maybe even more) and none of them had anything to complain about. The worker, Alexis, had helped me a lot in choosing what flavor ice cream that I want because I was conflicted between ube and black sesame swirl and oreo and horchata swirl. She decided to bring out samples not only for me, but my whole friend group as well! With the kind service of Alexis, all of us decided to get something :) Everything came out in a timely matter and there was no problem or confusion with the food! We got the matcha green tea ice cream with custard filling in the fish cone. The ice cream was great. But the custard was gross. The custard was gooey and the cone was chewy. We also for the taiyaki with taro filling and custard filling. They were still raw when we got them. It was basically uneatable. But their ice cream is worth it. read more

I waited to try this frozen treat for so long. I saw that there were locations much further away and thought that it was just a naive girl's dream to hope for one to come closer. Then the Millz had its glow-up and that included a SomiSomi and, reader, I loved it. I love the ice cream and the taiyaki and the sweet cashier. The only thing that I had that was less than amazing was the strawberry milk which was a little tart for my taste; however the glass bottle it came in is adorable and I have it on display on my desk. My family and I were discriminated against. As soon as we spoke to cashier and team they spoke to us so rudely. My sister wanted a ice cream with the fish and they said they ran out and had 3 being made. So she said why can't she have one of those and they said because they were already sold. So we came back to get ice-cream since supposedly they ran out of the fish cone and the cashier announced he just closed. So their really was no other customer who purchased the freshly made cones. I happened to be shopping when I came across this little ice cream shop. I ordered myself an horchata ice cream with the little fish waffle, which I just learned were called Taiyaki. I added nutella in my fishy and the rest plain and no additional toppings needed. Had to wait to eat it outside in my car so it did start to melt. But oh my...the ice cream flavor was delish! The fishy was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I loved the nutella inside, paired perfect with my ice cream flavor. I scooped some ice cream into the cone, or at times bit the cone by itself and all were pleasing experiences. My son got one as well and he raved about the tasty cone as well. Returned a few days later with my daughter so she could partake in this tasty experience. She got the cookies and cream with strawberry topping and she ordered nutella in the cone. She described is as an amazing experience. Customer service was good both times. Kind and pleasant. Will surely be back! read more

So I decided to try this place out for the first time and while the ice cream was okay, the customer service was far worse. This place has the rudest people working there. the girl who made my ice cream was really rude while i was asking for more toppings because she was being stingy with them. I understand that they're barely making minimum wage but it's not that hard to dispense ice cream so there is no reason to be so nasty. They seem quite stressed and frustrated over having the easiest job ever and they're taking it out on their customers. when i got my taiyaki, the girl behind the counter basically threw them into the box and carelessly tossed it on the counter without saying a word. not to mention that she was really rude while taking my order. all of the employees there just had some type of rude energy or behavior to them. I was expecting to have a friendly and welcoming experience since that's what the business looked like it was all about but it was unfortunately the complete opposite.
