Their ice cream is exceptionally creamy and rich, with a generous filling that melts in your mouth, making it incredibly delicious. The breading or fish is notably tender and crispy, offering a perfect contrast in texture. The ordering process is mostly automated, but the staff remains genuinely friendly and efficient, ensuring quick service. The venue is quite small, creating an intimate atmosphere. They also offer a variety of refreshing, well-crafted drinks, and a selection of tasty toppings to customize your order further.
I was unfortunately a bit disappointed in our experience at Somisomi. We got two taiyaki, one custard and one black sesame. The black sesame was okay, but the custard one was way too sweet, and did not taste authentic. The texture of the outside was also quite gummy, almost like mochi, which did not fit the flavor profile. Maybe I came at an off day, but based on that experience I would not return.
Located inside Valley Fair, near Ramen Nagi, Uncle Tetsu, and Alamo Drafthouse Cinema area. This spot have always been my go-to since they first open for whenever I craving for a good soft serve. The rotate flavors from time to time, so make sure to check their official Instagram to see which location offer which flavors, my all time favorite is their Milk and Cookies n' Cream. Somisomi's soft serve is creamy and quite strong on milky taste. Their taiyaki (fish shaped waffle) is also very good, it does have a good crunchy texture on the outside, soft and warm on the inside, with the perfect amount of sweetness and nice fragrant smell. So, I do recommend their Ahboong or Upside Down Ahboong for first timer, you cannot goes wrong with their Custard or Nutella filling. But this time, they released a brand new taiyaki's flavor: Dubai Chocolate and it was so good that I came back twice in the same weekend. This flavor was more expensive, I got 2 for almost $10 meanwhile 2 regular taiyakis was for $4.95 but it was worth it in my opinion. My taiyaki came out piping hot, the curnchy kataifi added so much texture to each bite and I was really happy to finish my taiyaki in one sitting. I thought I have to wait for long but there was no one in line during my visit at 6:30PM on a Friday night (shocking), staffs were attentive and quick with making my order, the taiyaki was ready in about 5-7 minutes. I think I will be a regular here if Somisomi will keep Dubai Choco Taiyaki on their permanent menu lol, finger crossed!!
We hot some icecream and taiyaki because my friend really wanted to try them out. The server was not very friendly and seemed annoyed. Took a while for our orders when there wasn't anyone before us. The ice cream was fine, taiyaki was good. Of all Somisomi locations I think this was the worst. Hoping for better service next time.
Service was super quick, location is convenient, and the dessert is delicious. I ordered nutella inside the waffle, with matcha and ube swirl ice cream and fruity pebbles on top. The ice cream flavor tastes and looks genuine, unlike other ice creams that have fake dye and flavoring. The nutella-filled waffle was the best part; I love how the waffle is thin and crisp.
Somisomi is a local chain that sells fish-shaped pastries that you can buy with a filling of your choice (Nutella, custard, sweet bean, among others) along with soft serve ice cream. On a recent visit, my husband got ube soft serve and I got strawberry soft serve. We each got a pastry topping filled with Nutella. They were delicious!
Taiyakis were excellent and had great crispy outsides, while maintaining a chewy interior. The newer black sesame flavor was so good! Next time I'll need a couple of those. I also enjoyed the usuals like custard and red bean. They were filled pretty well. The soft serve was nice and creamy, as well as flavorful too. Not sure if eating it in the mall made a difference but I've always found somi somi soft serve to be a bit more mellow and lacking in flavor (good creamy texture but weak in taste) but on this try I had the strawberry and could taste it loud and clear! It was very delicious and smooth. Creamy and flavorful! Very strawberry-y. I was pleasantly surprised and delighted. Very nice.
Got two taiyakis and was pleasantly surprised they had some fun flavors - hotteok (a brown sugar cinnamon nut mixture) and a black sesame one. They were made fresh and well cooked on the inside. My only wish was their filling was more generous but alas! The hotteok is a seasonal flavor and I really hope it becomes a staple because it's better than the custard / red bean flavor (also classics).
Somisomi always hits the spot! I got an upside down ahboong. I got the cookies and cream and matcha swirl with Nutella as my filling and Oreo crumbs as the topping. All the flavors together worked so well and it wasn't too sweet at all. I felt so bad since there was only one worker at the time, but she handled the line like a boss! Love love love!
Yay for SomiSomi! They're located upstairs near Icon Theaters and Ramen Nagi. There are limited seats near by the more it gets busy, so you most likely have to stand and eat if you're here during busy hours! I was intrigued by their taiyaki biscuits and decided to try this place. Every week, they have new swirls to try from so be sure to keep up with their socials to keep up to date! I believe that they only accept card, and tap-to-pay is an option. I decided to buy an upside down ah-boong with the matcha and milk swirl and add cocoa pebbles and oreo crumbs. I didn't have to wait that long for my ice cream, and the worker asking me for my toppings was very polite. The taiyaki had Nutella. The Nutella complimented the ice cream. The taiyaki was warm and delicious! I would come back here again! read more
Todays flavor swirls consisted of strawberry and ube and cookies&creme and Thai Tea. Service was quick despite the crowd. They used to ask if you want the macaron but the last few times here they haven't, I had to ask if it was still free which it is. Just know it's no longer defaulted onto you dessert. Flavors are rich as usual. And always taste great with toasted coconut, my go to topping. Definitely love the pastry as it's crispy as well as mochi like on the inside. read more

Been waiting to try this desert spot for a while and the ice cream is sooo nice and creamy. Didn't try the tayaki since i shared with my friend but the matcha and guava flavor were very good. You can pick toppings too if you want! Typical dessert prices read more
I love Somi Somi, but I surprisingly haven't gone to this location too often. I decided to come here before dinner (because why not ice cream before dinner). I got the strawberry and Thai tea mix, which was delicious. This was the first time I have gotten strawberry from somi somi, and I was not disappointed. I also ordered several taiyaki to eat later. This was the first time I ordered the cheese taiyaki, and I fell in love immediately. Because it was before dinner, they weren't busy at all. I didn't have to wait too long for my order. read more

I got the cookies and crème with milk combination. Topped with matcha powder and match filling. It wasn't too sweet and worked well with the ice cream flavor. I wish that the matcha filling had more of that matcha taste. I feel like it tasted just more like sweet and the matcha flavor wasn't apparent enough. The service was great and I didn't wait too long since it was on a Wednesday night. The ambience was nice and had lots of seating nearby so it wasn't hard to find a place to sit down and enjoy the ice cream. read more

This location is inside Valleyfair mall. There was only one worker when I came by on a Thursday afternoon and there were a good amount of people getting in line. The worker took our orders and had to make everything fresh by herself so it did take a while. The nice thing is, when your order comes out, it's nice, hot, crunchy, and chewy. I ordered the black sesame and red bean Taiyaki. Unfortunately, I did not like their black sesame filling too much which is unusual for me since I do like black sesame. It seemed more like a syrup than a filling. I did enjoy the red bean paste inside the Taiyaki. My only complaint about the Taiyaki is that the flavor of the batter seemed a bit lacking in maybe some sugar. I loved the texture though. read more
Great as always! I love going to this Somi Somi since its so conveniently located in Valleyfair. They also have really up to date flavors such as Cookie Butter and Pecan Praline, all which are really good! My personal favorite this season is Cookie Butter which tastes a bit like vanilla with a tinge of cinnamon. There's also other really great spots near by like Shihlin Street Snacks, Uncle Tetsu (another favorite) and a Macy's Men and Furniture right next door for ease of shopping. A few tips! If you do purchase a coffee or a cold brew, be sure to get the float. The cold brew is very watered down. Also, be sure to ask the preparer for a macaron or strawberry as they do not ask anymore and completely negate it! Also, a new Somi Somi did open in Berryessa next to Safeway Gas so also be sure to check that one out! Happy eating! read more
This was the first time that I've ever tried somisomi and I'm glad they have a location in San Jose. We came here on a Sunday afternoon and luckily there was no line. The hype was real. The waffle fish, also know as anboong, was warm and crispy with your choice of filling, and the soft-serve was flavorful and soft. We ordered an anboong upside down with Nutella filling and Oreo matcha swirl soft-serve, and milk horchata swirl soft-serve in a cup. Everything was served within 5 mins. They also asked what kind of toppings that we like before giving us our orders which was a nice touch. Overall, the dessert was delicious, price was affordable, and service was good. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. I'll definitely be coming back to try their other flavors. read more

Somisomi brings an Asian twist to an American classic soft-serve ice cream and makes it feel like you're having it for the first time again. The biggest Asian heavy hitting flavors combined into one is an epic blend but swirl combos are in rotation so check in with the store to make sure they have the one you're looking for. The ice cream is housed in my favorite vessel, the taiyaki cone, a fish shaped cone that has a slight crunchy exterior and is soft and fluffy on the inside. You have many topping options to choose from so go with your tummy! It was my first time there but the staff were very patient and helpful as I struggled choosing my flavors and toppings! After almost a year of not having SomiSomi, my partner and I walked on over to get ice cream after stuffing our bellies next door at Shihlin's. We were intrigued by their strawberry soft serve--well, my partner knows how much of a strawberry connoisseur I am and insisted we try it out for dessert LOL. Just like I remembered SomiSomi about a year ago, their soft serves are so creamy and gooooood. It's not super sweet like other soft serves, but sweet enough to remind you that it's ice cream and definitely blended with a high quality milk! The taiyaki is a perfect balance for the ice cream as well--it's like the Asian version of a ice cream cookie, but better! 1 star off because of how SMALL our strawberry was. The strawberry on display was half cut while the one we received was like a 1/4 or most likely s 1/6 cut. read more

This was my second time visiting this Somi Somi location and I have to say that I'm a fan! This location is in the mall nearby a couple of restaurants so you can eat dessert after a delicious meal. You can check out the swirls of the week on their Instagram page. This week's swirls were Thai tea/matcha (which is what I got), cookies/strawberry, and milk/ube. I highly recommend getting a swirl so you can try 2 flavors and the swirl combinations that they come up with are perfect. The Thai tea flavor was very light and the matcha was more overpowering in this swirl. Overall it was light and refreshing. I recommend getting the taiyaki in the cup. It is the easiest and cleanest way to eat the soft serve ice cream. read more
SomiSomi is always a solid dessert spot after a meal, as a snack, on a hot day, etc. I've had it multiple times in SoCal and it's been consistent so far throughout all my visits. This SomiSomi is located on the second floor of Valley Fair mall. On the day I went, I was hoping there would be black sesame and matcha ice cream flavors but they didn't have it that day. Lowkey wish they had a consistent menu since I know a lot of my friends love the black sesame and matcha as well. I ordered the ube and cookies n cream swirl in a cup with a free macaron topping and it was great! It was a good mix and was a perfect dessert after lunch. However, they were super busy and the taiyakis given to my friends were broken and overfilled with filling to where it did not look too great. Nonetheless, definitely would visit again. It's been a year since I've had the chance to come back here. The dessert still taste great the the service and attentiveness could be better. We ordered 2 Nutellas, 2 custard and 1 red bean taiyaki and were given 2 Ubes, 2 custard and 1 red bean. We did know until we were already driving away that they messed up the order. Will need to check before we leave next time. read more

My friends and I spent the afternoon at Westfield Valley Fair and we were excited to get something sweet to wrap up our shopping spree. There were so many options to choose from (boba, donuts, yogurt!), but I'm glad we ultimately decided on SomiSomi! We each got the Upside Down Ahboong with swirls. My friend tried the Ube/Pink Guava and we all thought it tasted pretty strange. We expected a fruity, refreshing flavor but it was pretty milky and artificial tasting. I loved the matcha and cookies & cream flavors though! The taiyaki cones were also a highlight. They're freshly made to order, so they're soft, warm, and pair really well with the soft serve. I got two taiyaki to-go for my boyfriend. They took forever to make (we were almost done with our soft serve by the time they were finished!). They were a little soggy by the time I got home, but my friend recommended putting them in the airfryer and they were good as new, so don't be afraid to order some for the road :) read more

I've been craving taiyaki for the longest time! There wasn't a long line on Saturday around 130pm, but shortly after we got in line it got long haha We ordered ube & milk tea with custard ahboong (upside down), regular milk ahboong with custard, and 7 taiyakis' (all flavors - cheddar, nutella, red bean, taro, oreo, and two custard). The ube and milk tea soft serve tasted pretty good, I didn't think it'd be a good combo! Only downside was the tayaki, it wasn't stable and fell on the floor. When it fell, it was right in front of the store front so they gave me another one. The taiyaki's were good - our favorite was custard! My next favorite would be taro and my least is cheddar, tasted a bit odd LOL. I'd come back for more taiyaki's! read more
Late night mall stroll and saw SomiSomi's fish and I really wanted one. Got a nutella filled and a taro Taiyaki and they were really good, similar to a pancake. Would totally come back and try the soft serve. There was a bit of a line but it moved pretty fast. read more

First time trying Somi Somi and I loved it! There was a short line so I got my order pretty quickly. I got the Upside Down Ahboong with Ube soft serve and Taro Filling. The soft serve was so smooth and delicious! The fish shaped waffle cone was warm, crispy, cute and yummy! I highly recommend this dessert to anyone who loves frozen desserts! read more

SomiSomi is my new favorite taiyaki/froyo spot!! My first time trying SomiSomi was about a month ago and I was SHOOK. It was soo good! The froyo was flavorful and creamy and the taiyaki was probably my favorite part. I like how the taiyaki is very customizable (type of filling, and how you want the taiyaki), and that they have lots of diff soft serve flavors. I know a location is opening in SF Mission Bay soon, so i'm excited for that! Then I won't have to go to SJ for my fix. read more
Somisomi @ Wesfield Valley Fair is a worthwhile stop for a snack when you are in dire need of some rest from shopping. First time trying this place and was delighted! First piece of advice: eat the taiyaki (fished shaped waffle) as soon as possible while it's still very warm! It's delicious!!!! Slight crispiness of the waffle-like shell along with soft mochi-ness inside with the red bean filling is divine! There are other filling choices to try too. this is one of the worst places that you can go. This is not the first time they pissed us off this is the second. so the first time we went their to get ice cream and when we at line a worker had came and told us sorry we are closed. they were not closed they had 5 minute! and she only told me! not the rest of the people that was in front of me like making an ice cream does not take five minutes. the second time was actually today. I was with my family, we came back to get some ice cream and I also got a bottle of water and drank some of it. A lady came and said uh ma'am you have to pay for that I said I will, then she came back and said again you need to pay for that again i said yes I will, while picking my order she then came but with some people and said ma'am you need to pay. at this point I got mad and said okay I will, it's not like I'm going to steal it like don't put me under stress , she was very rude I do need an apology from the owner and If I don't I will sue the somisomi and I am very seriou. and don't get me wrong but I loved somisomi but because of them I'm not going to come back, with that attitude so the customer service is not good, very rude if anyone is thinking to come an this location please have second thoughts. read more
A friend recommended me this place and it was lovely to hangout with them here. There's no seating area but you can stand around the wall and eat your treats. We got several flavors including taro, red bean, Oreo and another one. My friend also got the swirl ube ice cream. I tried a little bit and it tasted delicious. I like the ube flavor. Apparently all the ice cream are lactose free! I'm happy to confirm I'm not feeling bloated. I'd go back for more ube swirl ice cream next time. It also wasn't crowded when we went around 7pm and chatted for some time :) nice warm, cold and sweet treats. I'd bring a date here someday. read more

We tried all fillings and decided that we only like Nutella. Taro was pretty specific. We suggest to eat it right when its cooked, as few minutes later it will not be that crispy. Also, always get a scoop of ice cream because it combines well with hot teriyaki. Overall nice service and convenient location. read more
Quick mall fix for something warm and sweet. The taiyaki has new flavors! New seasonal flavors too for ice cream like praline and cookie butter. Overall service was fast, we got cheddar and custard. Cheddar was a mix of mozzarella and cheddar, it was great. Custard isn't too sweet, I highly recommend it! I wish it was cooked a little more to be crispier, but it's the standard golden brown. read more

I was craving some dessert after dinner (because, there's always room for dessert right?!). I got the matcha cookies and cream soft serve with red bean filling with an upside down ahbong. Their soft serve is sooo good!! It's got a very creamy consistency to it and you can definitely taste the individual flavors of both soft serve even with a swirl. The taiyaki was super fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. It was still a little warm because they had just finished making it so it was really enjoyable to eat a warm and cold dessert combo. The red bean filling complemented the taiyaki very well too, although they don't really fill it up very much. Delicious place to get dessert, would recommend! read more
Well, this has dethroned Cafe Maiko for us. The ice cream, which comes in many creative combination of flavors, is smooth, thick and creamy. You also have the option of adding the taiyaki fish cone which is a def must - super mochi-like crispy airiness. SO GOOD! They even give you added toppings at no cost and a cute little macaroon. At under $6, this is also less expensive (even with the taiyaki) than most other ice cream places nowadays. read more

Went to the mall for the first time in a super long time since covid. The last time I was here, the space was still boarded up & under construction. So, I had to try Somi Somi. I ordered the upside down style with milk tea & ube swirl. For the taiyaki, I opted the res bean filling. My little one chose fruity pebbles & sprinkles for the topping. The soft ice cream was super yummy! It has the perfect consistency as the soft serve ice cream. The milk tea flavor was good but the ube flavor was lacking imo. The taiyaki was crispy on the outside yet chewy. The red bean filling was delicious as well. I will definitely come back to try more flavor. read more

I'm obsessed I couldn't resist the temptation of this soft serve The matcha flavor was very pronounced, and the matcha ice cream matched so well with the red bean paste buried inside the cone. Please make sure to add extra matcha powder on top to further strengthen the flavor. The texture was very smooth and the ice cream itself was not overly sweet. Everything was perfect! read more
There's not too much to say about this place. It was a lovely and pleasant surprise. It's one of the few places in the United States that had ube ice cream that I didn't dislike. The taiyaki is freshly made on the spot and is warm, toasty, and fluffy. The Nutella filled taiyaki goes weirdly well with ube ice cream. There was a relatively long line when I came here but the staff was speedy yet efficient. The line moved in next to no time at all. They did a tremendous job handling so many orders, one right after the other. GIVE THEM A RAISE, HIGHER UPS. I KNOW YOU CAN SEE THIS SO DON'T YOU DARE IGNORE IT. I guess this place is a nice spot to get your sweet tooth fix and take a nice Instagram photo if that's your thing. There's a table right outside to eat at as well as ample spots to sit and enjoy your food in the immediate vicinity. Overall, nice experience. I will happily come back here again. read more

Located near the Macy's Men store in Valley Fair, SomiSomi serves a fun Korean snack called an "Ah-Boong." The taiyaki waffle was thinner and less cake-like than I expected, and doesn't have much flavor on its own. Their soft serve is the real star - we got the ube and strawberry swirled together and they were both delicious and creamy. You also get some free toppings like sprinkles, Oreo crumbs, graham crackers, or Fruity Pebbles. They only get four stars because they FORGOT my custard filling!! So sad! T_T read more
