Was in NYC for work a couple months ago and looked up pizza places because I love pizza. Song e Napule came up as one of the top-rated ones and it was within walking distance of my hotel, so yay. Went there and asked how long the wait will be for a table for one. Or just seating for one person. The guy I talked to was nice about it, but told me I'd never get a table before closing (it was pretty busy and quite a few people were already waiting). I got the impression that they didn't really cater to people who are dining by themselves. Fine, whatever, I get it, table space is a premium and they have to make money. I'll get my order to go. Ordered the porcini with truffle pizza, long with a raspberry panna cotta for dessert. Nearly $60, including tip. Speedwalked back to hotel. Pizza dough was good. The pizza as a whole was not. Barely any mushrooms on there and it was pretty bland. So I was really looking forward to the panna cotta....and they gave me the wrong one, a Nutella panna cotta. I like Nutella on bread and on its own, but I don't like it in my panna cotta. There's a reason why I asked what other panna cotta flavors were available and very clearly said the raspberry. Ate one bite of the Nutella panna cotta and just threw away the rest. Honestly can't recommend this place for takeout. Can't say how it is when dining in, but it likely would've been a better experience because I could've asked for them to replace the panna cotta. Anyway, I don't plan on ever coming back here, especially since two days later, I had a fantastic Neapolitan-style pizza topped with mushrooms and real truffles for pretty much the same price elsewhere. This is by far the cheapest way to get to Italy from Manhattan. From the moment you walk in the door (or,in the Age of COVID, when you stand somewhere under the covered outdoor seating looking expectantly at anyone who works here...), it's like you've been welcomed into an Italian family's kitchen. Not that I've ever really been welcomed into an Italian family's kitchen in Italy, but it's pretty much what I imagine it'd be like. Warm, casual greetings are followed by inquiries of reservations (make one, your life'll be better for it), then a seating and corresponding earnest deployment of menus (or, again, in the Age of COVID, a little QR code you can use to pull up virtual ones) and you're off to the races. A veritable derby of gustatory delights. Having only been twice, I can confidently state that nothing you might order at Song E Napule would disappoint. At least, not based on n = 2. I suppose it's possible there's a dud in the lot, but I haven't found it yet. You could challenge me to find such a flop -- I'd take you up on that gamble with gusto. We've sampled two pizzas and two pastas, each exceptionally pleasing. Upon our first visit, we attempted to order the pizza with prosciutto and truffle without success. One of the ingredients (I don't recall which) was out of stock. Instead, we were talked into an alternative truffle cream pizza along with the house special ragu pasta. It was such a spectacular meal that we had to patronize them again after discovering they'd set up outdoor pandemic dining. This time, our requested pizza was available and fulfilled every desire. We also opted for a short rib bolognese, of which its sheer memory leaves my mouth watering as I type this. As I understand, Song E Napule is a family-owned small business. I visited their new location on Houston. Ambience is still really nice and the pizza is fantastic. As good as you would get in Napoli. I don't love doing this, but I don't think the overall experience still deserves five stars. A few feedback points which I hope will help keeping this place a great restaurant: -I realize there's been inflation in recent years, but the prices have really climbed. -We ordered the calamari fritti. Excellent but for $20 dollars the portion was really small -Biggest piece of feedback was how the meal ended. Not bad, not bad at all. Very solid pizza with a level of quality that you could easily find in any decent pizzeria in Italy. I read about the hype, saw the funny decor in the photos on Yelp/Google, and convinced a small group of friends to come with me and try some Neapolitan-style pizza. Stopped by a couple nights ago with no reservation and we were seated quickly enough (unlike the 2-3 week minimum reservation times you apparently require for 'Una Pizza Napoletana', the other famous NYC pizza place in Manhattan). I grew up in Italy, and spoke Italian to our first server. He called over another guy...who spoke Spanish :D Tried ordering a Pizza Fritta (google it, if you've never heard of it) - and got a Pizza Montanara instead, which was still pretty good. Went to the bathroom and walked through the kitchen (which was kinda cool!), and all the chefs / staff were Latino. Please understand: there is NOTHING wrong with people that aren't actually Italian making a pizza, especially because clearly these guys know what they're doing - but having read all of the raving reviews, I was kinda expecting some Italians in the kitchen. That being said, the food was great. Easily among the best pizza I've had in NYC. Better than Grimaldi's or other famous places in Brooklyn, nearly as good as Sorbillo's when they were still open. I went to Song E Napule for my birthday a few weeks ago. I've been once before and loved everything about it and wanted to come back to celebrate the new year! I made a reservation in advance about two weeks before my bday for 20 people (a lot in nyc I know lol... i have too many friends) on opentable. I also made sure to call and confirm that it would be okay. To make things easier I decided to order everything ahead of time and make it family style for my guest. With the amount of people I had, they moved our reservation to other restaurant on the same block. I made sure to confirm the day before that my reservation was in place. Upon my arrival however, both locations forgot about my reservation. So it took a while for them to figure it out and decide which location would host us. Regardless of that situation, the manager made sure that we were taken care of! The service was absolutely amazing and the food was to die for! Everyone loved loved loved the Burrata! The mushroom and four cheese pizza was also a hit! We finished everything off with Nutella pizza and their Nutella pizza dough balls! They brought it to me with sparklers and it was so much fun! I will say the calamari was a bit hard to eat as it wasn't really cut into smaller pieces for people to eat, but I think that was because they seemed rushed. Avoid if you are celebrating a birthday or event - or just want to enjoy dinner on a Friday night for more than an hour. They completely ruined my bday dinner last week. I booked Song E Napule for my birthday last friday specifically to enjoy a girls dinner for 6 people. My cousin called ahead on that day to confirm and let them know it was a birthday. They rushed us through the meal - we didn't even get to finish our pizza (which was fine, but we picked this place for the ambiance and relaxed atmosphere not the food). They are known to have fun bday vibes but not tonight apparently. They took our plates/unfinished pizza without asking, refused to let us order a second bottle of wine. Rushed through the bday celebration by just turning the lights on and off and putting whipped cream on my face??? I didn't even get to choose the dessert - I was planning on getting tiramisu and they brought some weird vanilla pudding that no one ate (not like we had the time anyway). Also one of the waiters knocked me on the head pretty hard (accidentally but still, with everything else, this dinner was a disaster). They forced us to pay the bill and leave - and were not nice about it. Our reservation was for 8pm and we were standing outside at 9:10pm. (and of course, who in NY shows up on time, so we were there for less than an hour total). When we pushed back they said they were busy and had a one hour policy??? I've never heard of less than 90 minutes. We chose this place to avoid something like that - I would have gone with a scenier / more upscale spot if I had known, like Cafe Chelsea. They were very rude about it as well (even to me who's birthday it was) and said "we should have called ahead to tell them, they would have sat us differently" - BUT WE DID CALL, THAT SAME DAY! When I pointed this out he got even ruder. Completely ruined my bday just to turn over a table. Awful! And FYI, we are 6 women who were not rowdy or rude at all, we were there to enjoy a few glasses of wine and celebrate a calm, fun birthday. Sad that the restaurant made that impossible, really ruined the evening for me when all I wanted to do was catch up with friends on my birthday. In terms of the ambience, the restaurant is small and quaint but a bit cramped, although it definitely feels like an intimate space. It was also really cool to see the pizzas being made inside the huge pizza oven at the back of the restaurant. For our meal, we started with the Mediterranean salad (beets & goat cheese) and the eggplant parmigiana, both of which were delicious. Obviously, the highlights were the pizzas. We got the 16" margherita and the 16" filetto di pomodoro. Between the gooey cheese, the fresh tomatoes/tomato sauce, and the insanely fluffy crust, I was blown away by these pizzas. Between the two appetizers and the two pizzas, we were more than stuffed, and there were even two slices left over at the end of the meal. Finally, our waiter surprised me with a birthday dessert: the Nutella panna cotta, which I can't recommend enough. Solid Italian food at a great price point! This West village spot is small, so be wary of coming here in a large group. Luckily, we were a group of three and they had a lot of outdoor seating. Their outdoor seating consists of long plastic tables, meaning that you could easily be placed next to another party. We were placed next to another party of two which was fine with us. However, it was ridiculously hot outside and our party was placed at the edge of the table with no cover. We ordered three things, two pastas and a pizza to share. I came here with a friend on a Thursday night, and there was no wait, though it was still filled with people inside. We got the diavola, which is basically a margherita with salami. I liked the thinness of the pizza (aside from the thick crust) but I wish it was a little firmer. The slice could barely hold itself up, and the toppings were sliding off. For the pasta, we got the linguine nere con gamberi (the squid ink linguine with shrimps). The pasta was firm. The sauce seemed pretty evenly spread through the pasta. The shrimp is a tad smaller than I'm used to, but they throw a good amount in there. Overall, it's pricey, but both entrees were indeed tasty. It wasn't blow your mind away delicious on first bite, but the more I ate the more I realized how good it was. I shared both the pizza and pasta with my friend, so we were only about half full. I'm not sure if everyone gets this, but we also got a Nutella panna cotta on the house, which was a pleasant surprise. It was super delicious to the point I wouldn't mind paying for it the next time I go. Aside from the food, the waiters are all really good at their jobs, particularly Giggino who seems especially passionate about the restaurant. They're all super friendly and very social. We got there pretty late, like 1hr before closing I think and were able to get a table fairly quickly. The restaurant was small and pretty crowded lol but the pizza was well worth it. Ma ma mia! I finally found the most perfect Neapolitan pizza outside of Naples. This is a little hole in the wall place with giant flavors in their food. Their pizza dough was perfectly proofed with large charred bubbles. The crust was so soft, chewy, and springy at the same time that I first thought it had to be undercooked; but, it was perfect. Have been to all three of their establishments in Soho, Upper West Side and New Jersey over the last few years and have never been disappointed by either the amazing food or great staff and service. The pizza and starters are all first rate, along with their delicious pastas and other entrees. Have even brought Italian friends from Italy here and they agreed. The spicy salami gave a nice saltiness to each bite and the pockets of mozzarella were perfection. Quantity: Light pizza, but 16 inches is still very filling. Value: $30 for the Diavola Pizza. $28 for the White Truffle Gnocchi. Ambiance: Song E Napule is located in Greenwich Village in Manhattan. It is a very small space and they use every inch. Even in winter months, they extend outside with an enclosed patio. Tables are close together and it can be a tough squeeze. The decor is all Napoli FC, with several shrines to Maradona, and jerseys and flags everywhere. Crowd: Make a reservation and expect to find each table filled. We somehow snagged last minute 2 person reservations for Friday night. For the large pizzas, they allow half and half orders. They are actually very fair cause the whole pizzas cost different prices, but the half and half order is just half of what the whole pizza would cost and not the more expensive whole. All pizza places should do this! Ordered half margherita and half mushroom proscuitto. The proscuitto for some reason was just ham?, which was misleading. The margherita didn't seem to have much basil either. Cheese was fairly thick and stretchy. The crusts were incredibly fluffy and airy and red sauce was also great. The squid ink linguine was divine. Plenty of shrimp, red sauce, and linguine all mixed together. I enjoyed the pasta more than the pizzas. The restaurant itself was TINY. Extremely crowded. Tables all jammed together, no where to move once you're seated. Someone was celebrating a birthday and the desserts were massive. The servers even came around and squirted chocolate sauce into people's mouths. It was really festive and music was incredibly loud. Hard to hear one another and settled for shouting at one another. I trekked across several neighborhoods in search of Neopolitan pizza. I landed at Song E Napule and was warmly greeted by their host and server. There is a proper mural for Diego Maradona, which let me know it was legit. The pizza was dreamy and exactly what I was hoping for with the right amount of sourdough flavor in the dough, fresh tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella and basil. The house red was a lovely accompaniment. What I couldn't finish hot, I lugged back to the hotel and enjoyed for breakfast. I took a tiramisu to go and didn't love it. Song E Napule still earned 5 starts for the pizza, service, and atmosphere I thought I could only hope to find in Naples! read more

Holy shit. Warning: the words I am about to post are 100% truthful. Ok so I get there with my very good friend who has been many times, little tiny place and we were oh so lucky enough to get a table. Tight squeeze but the servers do a good job of making sure all ur food fits on the table! First we had the carpaccio, I have never had it with cured beef but damn the tastes were beautifully balanced. Aged parmigiana, lightly dressed in a brightening lemon dressing. Second course was the vegetarian pizza, their crust IS TO DIE FOR. Cheese oh so good, very fresh. I mean u literally are watching them make it all right behind u! And then third course we got the special of the day- a gnocchi stuffed with truffle oil infused cheese. Oh. My. God. I am currently still taken aback at how exquisite this fine piece of pasta was. Biting into it, the texture of the pasta felt like the softest lips in the entire world kissing me. Then to take in account the oozing of the truffle induced cheese... oh my god. Truly a mouth orgasm- and I've never had one before. It was as if I was having a make out session with a tall dark and handsome Italian man who made kissing his life profession.
