Ok so I get there with my very good friend who has been many times, little tiny place and we were oh so lucky enough to get a table. It's always a party at Song E Napule, which would normally have me recommending this place emphatically but gives me pause as the virus rages in the background. They aren't expressly flouting covid restrictions, but there are certain elements at the restaurant that have great entertainment value but would make an epidemiologist raise an eyebrow or two. People often like to celebrate their birthday here, and they have a practice of bringing out a speaker blasting a song so loud you have to shout to be heard, while multiple employees come around to that table to dance and clap. In tandem with playing the music they also serve a dessert that entails them using the same squeeze bottle to squeeze nutella into the mouth of each person at the table. Hey, it looks like a lot of fun, but some people opt for outdoor dining specifically because they're trying to practice some level of safety, but being in a space that is largely enclosed (though still outdoors), with tables packed very closely together, where people are inclined to shout, and where you might be subjected to something as unsanitary as having the same squeeze bottle squeezed into your mouth and everyone at your table's made me uneasy. Real safety sticklers could argue that by dining out we're already choosing to expose ourselves (and others), but experts have been having this argument ad nauseum about proven ways to dine out safely during a pandemic and this ain't it. When it comes to the food, their kitchen exhibits a clear talent for making good wood fired pizzas, salads, and a really nice parmigiana. Prices felt steep for what you get, which is pretty standard Italian fare, but not unusual for the area. 2 glasses of wine each, a salad, an appetizer, and 2 pizzas and tip set us back over $140. As many others note, the service is incredibly friendly, and though their lively set up makes me nervous, it looks like it's a big draw for them as they always seem to be busy any night of the week. I feel like a real Karen putting them on blast but I would rather be armed with this knowledge to help make a decision on whether or not to partake in outdoor dining here. If you want to throw caution to the wind (or lack thereof, because of the enclosure of their set up) look no further. Otherwise, you can support them by ordering food for takeout. read more

I was driving by the other day and remembered that I had came here before covid (Jan 2020). I totally forgot to post this review! I am definitely going to go back soon because I saw that they have outdoor dining! 01/2020: The server saw us peeking through their shop window and welcomed us in. The place was crowded but luckily there was 1 table left. He seated us quickly and gave us their iPad menu. This cozy little shop is crammed with about 10 two-seater tables. It extends out into the sidewalk with an enclosed foyer with 2 more small tables. The pizza and the pasta are delicious. I tried the DIAVOLA pizza (small 12") which is tomato sauce, mozzarella, spicy imported salami from Napoli, and basil. This pizza was super thin while the crust is really soft, thick but hollow. The toppings easily fell off as I picked up a slice though. I also tried the LINGUINE NERE CON GAMBERI which is black linguine (squid ink) with baby shrimps and cherry tomato sauce -- can be saltier but still good! They gave us a complimentary PANNA COTTA with chocolate syrup at the end for dessert! This soft pudding has that melt-in-mouth texture and wasn't too sweet. I would order this next time! Good food but bad service. I came with a friend and my boyfriend. The food was delicious. Salad was so flavorful and the chicken dish was great (even with a delayed surprise). I am gluten free so I couldn't enjoy the pasta and pizza but my friend and boyfriend did. From my observation, they both joined the Clean Plate Club and really sang many praises about the meal they just had. The service was the downfall, but hey, sometimes the server gives the table (who was sat 40 mins after us) our pizza. No biggie. An actual big deal is saying I am gluten free and asking about flour on the chicken, and not noticing until way into the dish that maybe there was flour on the chicken. I am not celiac so I didn't die, and that's a blessing. But, I am gluten free because gluten and I don't really like each other. It's always a delayed effect when gluten has entered the boundaries so the staff were not aware of the hour and half plus of pain that I experienced while attempting to entertain my out of town friend, and how sick I felt for the next two days as a result. So, although the food is 5 stars, I am feeling so sick that I can't possibly give that type of review. But, I know I am a minority when it comes to food allergies and if you are not gluten free, this is definitely the place to go. read more

Hilarious customer service on the phone. I called to order 3 pies to go and was trying to understand the difference between the sizes. I am used to only one size for these types of pizzas and it's usually a personal size. So basically he got fed up and said just come in and order. Song E Napule is one of the best options for Neapolitan pizza in NYC. I would rank them above Ribalta, Kesté Pizza & Vino, Motorino, or Luzzo's. It is made with mozzarella, deep fried egg plants, large pieces of Italian sausage, and cherry tomatoes. I was most impressed with the mozzarella and the Italian sausage. I could tell their cheese and toppings were carefully curated and prepared. I also loved the crust. It was a traditional Neapolitan, so it had a soupy and soft center and a crispy charred end crust. I loved the differing textures found throughout each slice. Porcini Pizza (4/5): This pizza was also pretty good but it didnt impress me as much as the previous one. Their cheese and crust were great, but I felt the mushrooms were too sparse and tender. If you are naming your pizza after a mushroom, it should come with plenty of them and they should be great. Top Italian! During the first of summer COVID, I went on a pasta craze and found this hidden gem. From the outside, the place humbly sits on the streets, but the waitstaff and food are to-die-for. First off, pizza is never my first choice when ordering sharing dishes, but the Diavola is amazing--we were literally fighting over the last slice. The salami and mozzarella combo is perfect, and we also tasted a hint of umami truffle. Also, the Spaghetti Alle Vongole is a must-have! The size of clams vary occasionally, but the garlic sauce on the pasta is amazing. After a few visits, the staff recommended a few daily specials to try, but I would personally stick with the octopus special--the others were mediocre. Check your bill carefully. They automatically give themselves 20% tip regardless of party-size which is not unusual nowadays in some types of places in NYC to be fair. But what I don't appreciate is that they defaulted to ask for another 18%, 20%, 25% on top of the 20% they already automatically took which is not normal or okay. If you take 20% automatically , it's normal to only ask for an additional 3%, 5%, 7%. People have drinks and may not be paying so close attention and they could easily unintentionally tip 40% +. I'm sure they will say it was a misunderstanding but that is a setting you pre-determine on the machine. It is obvious what they are trying to do. The pizza was decent and the ambience was fun, but if you get a reputation of no integrity in this city you will be finished as fast as you have grown. read more
