I walk in and was seated right away. A very thin blonde waitress came and asked what drink I wanted. She returned with s sweet tea. I sat here for a while and watched several patrons come and go to the table behind me. To my surprise the waitress walked by me several times and started to take their order even tho i clearly was here before them. When she took their order she looked at me snd i gave her the im so hungry look. She finally took my order. When she returned with the food she placed the food down with a uncaring manor. The big plate was on top of the little one. She looked right at it and it was apparent she didn't even care. I ran out of garlic bread and this waitress never came to ask how was my food or anything. I usually start all my waitresses with a 10 dollar tip. It can go ip or down from there. Shell be lucky to get 2 dollars. Sonny's was a pretty solid experience overall. Although the service was lacking, the food made up for it greatly. The host who greeted us was very polite and upbeat. The server, however, was quite opposite. Diana (I think her name was, older blonde lady) was a bit impolite and not urgent at all. From the initial table touch to closing out the tab, she took quite a while in between each visit. We were finished with our food for probably 10 mins before our next visit, while needing to close out and get dessert to go. I don't know if she was just having a bad day, or maybe struggling with some back of house tasks, but all I know is my party of 3 was so confused why things were taking awhile with only 2 other tables sat at the time. But like I said, the food overshadowed the service, very much so. We split an appetizer of the loaded tots, which were impressive. Perfect onion straws, great BBQ sauce, and soft tots with a good outside crunch. The sandwiches were all a great taste as well. The meat quality was perfect, but the Sweet Carolina and the Cuban could've used more sauce as the sandwiches felt a little dry overall. Luckily, we were able to dip in the amazing sides of different BBQ sauces they had at the table. My favorite was definitely the Cuban. I also ordered a banana pudding to-go, which was pretty average. Got the marbled brisket ($8.99 was the market price as of 08/20) ON GARLIC BREAD (which isn't an up-charge btw!) with a side of potato salad. It was crazy good! Now, lemme tell you about LISA. She is amazing! I was torn between choosing sweet potato or potato salad as my side. Without any hesitation, she grabbed a FULL small cup of potato salad for me to sample. The boyfie isn't a fan of it, but I'm a southern-style kinda gal so I LOVED it! Also, she had our second cups of soda available as soon as we got to half of our first cup. This is a great location! We were seated & served quickly. The food also came relatively quickly as well. Despite the quick service, the quality of the food was great! The pulled pork and chicken breast in particular were juicy and moist. The garlic bread was toasted well. Lastly, the BBQ baked beans were some of the best I've had! Been coming to Sonny's since they opened the Ft Myers location in the late 70's. What has changed? I can say that the brisket has taken a hit. Used to be thinly shaved and delicious, now it is tough and not so good. order the turkey instead. I saw a plate of pork loin that looked fantastic on the table next to me. My first time trying Sonny's and it was great! I kept wondering why I hadn't tried their food sooner. The prices were also very reasonable. You can get 2 meat plus 2 sides for under $14. They did charge me an extra $2.50 for the beef brisket without telling me. The kid's meals are also very reasonably priced. They had four different bbq sauces to choose from. April 5th My son got married recently and I used Sonny's for the catering. The venue was at the Orlando Science Center at the Dino Pavillion on April 5th. Soooooo it was the perfect menu to match the dino theme..... IT was such a smooth transaction. They took care of everything. I wish I can remember who I work with: I believe her name to be Ilene... She was such an Amazing & Professional lady to work with. I was going nuts, crazy my baby getting married. I couldn't think right, running around like a headless chicken. The wedding planner was MIA that day. So family and friends had to step up and decorate the Venue. We didn't want the kids to find out. So they can get married "stress free". I held up the ship and sweating my in royal blue dress and hair die bleeding down my face. The family came together: tie bows on the chairs, set up tables, set cake table, and decor extra..... We made it just in the nick of time with at least 10 mins to spare until they walk down the outdoor isles. Frustrated: OMG YES!!! with the venue "Orlando Science Center" but that's another topic to be continued..... Since our wedding planner was MIA. Ilene made it all come to life: smooth without any hesitation. Ilene and her team was AMAZING. The food was delicious and allot was left over. She made it stress free and took control of the rest. IT was smooth sailing from there. I was able to relax and enjoy my son's wedding. Dancing. eating and smiling from one ear to another with tears of joy. The leftovers was taken to the homeless shelter. *** It was OVERALL : An Incredible experience and I will for sure repeat business for future events with Sonny's BBQ. Unfortunately, my experience at this Sonny's hasn't been the greatest. Service varies, sometimes it's great, sometimes it's sub-par. Last time, service was poor. As for the food, it's okay. The food is the same as the service, sometimes it's good, sometimes it's not. I usually ordered pulled chicken. This time I got the pulled pork lunch platter, although it wasn't by choice. I actually ordered the chicken but orders got mixed up. Yes, I could have sent it back, but I was famished. It comes with two sides. I selected mac and cheese and fries. Being a self-proclaimed BBQ snob, I find it hard to eat out and order BBQ at restaurants. Because I had an hour to kill while waiting for tires to be installed, I walked over to Sonny's and treated myself to lunch. I was pleasantly surprised by my experience! I wanted to try several kinds of meats, so I just ordered by the 1/4 lb and got turkey, baby back ribs, and brisket. The turkey was just a hair overcooked but it still had great flavor. The brisket had a little fat on it, which gives more flavor, and I enjoyed both this and the ribs. The salad bar was also fantastic. My server was friendly. Good experience and food! read more

I actually got this meal via takeout, and so I can't really speak to their dine-in service. Let me preface this review by saying that I actually am from a big-time BBQ area in NC, so I know what I'm talking about. I've tasted chains like City BBQ, "Red, Hot & Blue", and some regional chains like 4Rivers, so I'm familiar with what's on offer. In addition, I'm an excellent smoker/griller, and my extended family cooks whole hog BBQ in the style of Rodney Scott. A friend I am staying with asked me if I wanted anything, and I told her I wanted the brisket sandwich. Oops. It was around 7:00 and they were already out. They subbed it for the pulled pork sandwich, and that's what I'm reviewing here. (Sorry about a lack of pictures. I usually go somewhere twice before reviewing it, but I don't know if I'll order from here again.) They offer two options: The garlic bread bun and the regular roll. I got the regular roll, which actually was a bit dry for my tastes, but substantive. The pulled pork was actually a little squishy. What I mean is that the meat itself was kind of wet, and the fat was wet as well / not fully rendered. The thing that did impress me was the availability of Carolina Gold sauce, which is kinda a regional specialty in SC. Unfortunately, there was too little of it to offset the dryness of the bun. I didn't get any sides, because it was spur of the minute add-on to the rest of the family's order. They included samples of their sauce to round out the meal, including the lauded "Smokin' Sauce", which is supposed to be hot. It is a little smoky, but to be honest, most of these sauces don't rise above Cattlemen's Best. As far as BBQ chains go, this is middle of the road, and I have to correct for the fact that I get top-of-the-line BBQ, anytime I want ;) I might try it again at some point, just to see if the brisket is any good. If so, I might revise the review. Decent price, but not exceptional. It's average, at best. read more

Save yourself the disappointment and go elsewhere if you must have a Philly cheesesteaks sandwich or just get the brisket sandwich. Been coming to this Sonny's location in Winter Park since it opened. Our server Lisa who has been here for years is absolutely the best! She's very attentive and takes very good care of her customers. Food is always good. This location just finished a huge remodel. Even though it looks nice, I don't care for the set up. The booths and walls run north and south and it doesn't allow you to see everyone like the old set up that ran east and west.
