I try to rate restaurants based on what they are trying to be. I'll give a bar and grill 5 stars and give a fancy steak restaurant 4 stars. It's based on what the establishment is trying to be. Pros: Southside Grill was great. My fiancé and I went here and got appetizers, drinks, and entrees. The service was great and there is lots of parking. Drinks were decent. The shrimp appetizer had lots of flavor . The chicken that my fiancé had was huge, crispy, and tender (highly recommend). I had the salmon and it was good and well priced. We also had a desert cocktail and it was well made and flavorful. Cons: We got the shrimp appetizer and it did have good flavor, but for $15, you get 5 medium sized shrimp. It's something you would be able to make at home for $4. The drink menu(excluding desert cocktails) were all citrus based and did not have items similar to an old fashion (I'm sure they could make upon request). The entrees were great and my only recommendation is a tad bit more of the lemon sauce on the chicken since it is a great size. We got a side of Brussels sprouts and the texture was amazing. They were lacking flavor though. I've had some really good Brussels sprouts lately so I'm also being critical. We will definitely go back and try other drinks and apps. Hope this helps! read more

South side is a hidden gem. Although it's exterior may look like it's not much, the interior is gorgeous (including the patio!). This is a great spot for so many things - brunch, happy hour and dinner. Their happy hour prices are really worth it! I highly recommend sipping on a cocktail and ordering their scallops. You won't regret it! Be warned - their drinks are strong! Edited to Add: Ordered their lobster ravioli tonight for the first time! It was PHENOMENAL! Ended up here with some work colleagues for dinner. It is located in a strip mall so parking was plentiful. We had a patio reservation and were seated promptly. Nice that the patio is covered! They had a stellar drink menu, even with some local beer options. I ended up having the black and bleu tortellini. The steak was perfectly cooked and the sauce had a little kick to it. Very yummy! 2 words-- hidden gem. I accidentally found this place a year ago when my date sent me on a wild goose chase and I ended at the wrong place but knew I wanted to come back to try it. I was finally able to try a couple of weeks ago. After surviving the plague, I needed to get out of the house and have a glass of wine and some good food. I saw that Southside had 1/2 price bottles of wine and I was in! Very pleasantly surprised they had Cava--even better! I ordered the steak bruschetta, the steak morsels were fantastic, it complemented the bruschetta perfectly. I enjoyed the pistachio chicken but the goat cheese mashed potatoes stole the plate. First of all, I cannot believe I have never reviewed Southside. We are regulars here so I guess I just never thought to review it. They never disappoint. You can essentially make your plate what you want it to be by subbing sides, asking for extras, and how well done or rare you want your beef or salmon cooked. I personally love every dish, except the Oscars medallion. I'm not a fan of the sauce on it. The shrimp and andouille sausage linguine is divine, a bit spicy, but so worth it. I can NEVER pass up their tomato soup with extra goat cheese and croutons. GET THE SOUP if you love tomatoes, goat cheese and croutons. The Scottish salmon is my go-to with sauce on the side and well done, add goat cheese mashed potatoes and green beans. My husband is a regular of their steak burger and meatloaf. I also love the chicken dishes. The Brasserie chicken is my favorite because I love capers. Also their Parmesan risotto is too hard to pass up. Sooo good. When they have Coconut cake we always have to go for a slice. They are heavy handed with their drinks so expect a buzz. The Southside cooler is so good and refreshing. And Martinis are strong AF but delicious. When I'm unsure about where to go, we always go to, or order pick up/ delivery from Southside. read more

After receiving our COVID-19 vaccinations and waiting a few weeks, my wife and I decided to dine out for the first time in over a year. We had discussed trying Southside Grill several times over the years. I think the fact it is in a kind of an out-of-the-way shopping center resulted in us never choosing to dine there. However, when we saw they offer patio dining, we decided to give them a try. We reserved a patio table. When we arrived, we were promptly seated, given menus, and...nothing. We looked over the menus, discussed choices, and we waited. We were not greeted by a waiter. We were not given water. We were ignored. Meanwhile, other customers were seated and given attention. After more than twenty minutes, my wife noticed two servers standing nearby carrying on a conversation. After trying and failing to get their attention, my wife went to them and informed them we had been ignored. Obviously, this is not the impression a business wants to make on a new customer. However, once we received attention, everything was great! The service was good, and the food was delicious. We chose the Beef Bruschetta appetizer. I am generally not a big fan of goat cheese, but the tender beef bites were perfect with the creamy, mild goat cheese. I would definitely order this again. My wife had the Seared Ahi entree, and she loved it. I had the Brasserie Chicken, which is a fried chicken breast with a lemon sauce served on Parmesan risotto with sautéed spinach on the side. It was excellent. I did overhear another server mention a wine special and informed that table there were no special menu items, but no one told us about any of that. The food deserves five stars, but the service clearly was lacking for some reason, which is why I am deducting a star. We will definitely return. read more

If you want some legit brunching, Southside offers it. They have somewhat spotty service hence why this isn't a 5 star, but after visiting here a few times, I can vouch their food is decent and priced well for the portions. Come hungry because you're going to stuff yourself dining here. Quality of food is great for what you are asking for. Another thing I can compliment is that they do not over salt their food. I have had that happen at a couple of American food brunch spots and this has not been an occurrence here. Parking is ample. Since it is in a strip mall, you won't have issues finding a place to park. You might just have to walk a bit if you want something super close to it, but once you're done eating here, you'll probably need that little extra walk anyway to lose some of the carbs you just took in. read more

Stumbled across this gem when we were visiting a friend in the area. Way outside our circle, we are long-time East Nashvillians. We were so excited to find this spot and it was the perfect reminder how important it is to get outside your comfort zone and explore the other wonderful culinary options available in our city. The food was amazing. We started with the octopus appetizer which was so tender and delicious. We followed with Lobster Ravioli with Shrimp and their filet. The filet was perfectly seasoned, tender and cooked perfectly. But, I will dream about the ravioli...OMG!!! Apologies for not remembering to take pictures, we were too busy enjoying the food. Although in the end of strip mall the exterior is charming and when you walk inside the decor is beautiful and comfortable. The service was perfect, just the right amount of attention but not intrusive....thank you Bri!! It was a lovely experience and we cannot wait to return to explore more of the menu. Very disappointing. Good looking menu but everything we ordered was a disaster. Restaurant was very cold inside & out. I rarely eat potatoes and was looking forward to creamy mashed potatoes w the filet. These were inedible. Spicy-hot, over salted, overloaded with white pepper and a texture more like polenta. Mentioned it to our server who said it was a known issue and would I like Parmesan risotto instead. That was a great solution until I saw that we were charged for it! Shrimp pasta dish also spicy hot w a runny sauce. Pork dish was the best entree at our table, good sauce & pasta ribbons but meat was tasteless. Chef needs to learn to season food consistently & correctly. Gave 2 stars because appetizers ( bruschetta & whipped feta) were delicious as were the desserts & our service was good too. read more

Won't be eating at this establishment ever again. Poor customer service. My sister who's allergic to seafood developed an allergic reaction after a bite of eating the 3-egg omelet. Apparently there was a cross contamination with the crab omelet. Although we were not able to eat our food, we were still charged.
