If I could give no stars I would. First, the water cup was dirty with butter stuck on the outside and my soda was served with sludge on the interior of the cup. The chicken souvlaki had no taste and the tatziki was a joke. It was sour cream with chunks of cucumber in it. The kids Mac and cheese tasted awful. It was just a thick yellowish sauce. The coleslaw tasted like it was passed from table to table and was warm. I'm afraid I'll be getting sick from the uncleanliness of this diner. The bathrooms were beyond dirty. Delicious hot food to be served. First impression is I'm going back for more. If you like cream cheese you won't be disappointed in a bagel with cream cheese here. I'm up all night. Dreaming of this perfectly toasted and magnificently prepared grilled cheese with bacon and tomato. Magical and buttery crunch on the bread and then soft cheese and tomato all accompanied by crispy flavorful bacon. Ended our little feast with amazing carrot cake (basically a healthy vegetable cake, right!!!). When you want to indulge, this is a great place to eat those classic diner dishes. read more

I would have given this review higher ratings but the food label in my Apple salad w/grilled chicken and my other order of the snapper fish entree which turned out to be fish jerky caused the ratings to be what it was. I'm glad I didn't eat too much of the salad before discovering that bit there. Makes me and should make you wonder if they actually wash their produce before preparing dishes. Maybe this was an honest mistake but I thought it's common knowledge to remove the label(s) before preparing food. With covid going on you gotta be extra cautious with food now. I'll update this review if anything happens since it's the only thing I ate today besides a breakfast bagel. Normally I don't have to check out take out food from stateline but after this incident I will be from now on whether it's dine-in or not. I've tried this place four times and I've finally given up. Although the service is friendly it is rushed. The food is terrible. I work close by so my coworkers and I often order through Grubhub for delivery. I have been disappointed lately. There have been numerous issues with our orders. First, I have ordered the Greek Salad without anchovies. I like their salad and the potion size is great for the price. However, on two separate occasions I have found sliced turkey in the salad. I cannot eat meat and thankfully was able to pick it out. I decided to order the portabella salad and found pieces of what appears to be fried chicken in it (photo posted). On another occasion my coworker decided to order over the phone to go pick it up. We wanted two Greek salads. The person taking the order actually asked her if she wanted lettuce in the salad. She thought he was joking so she said yes. Both "salads" had about a few pieces of lettuce and were less than half the size of the salad normally. So we paid over $30 for them and didn't get one salad between the two of us. Unfortunately I lost those photos and all the others I had. She called to complain to the manager(?) and we were offered a free dessert which we still haven't gotten. read more

One of the worst diners I've ever been. My fiancé and I walked in and the hostess asked us to take a seat. He didn't even walk us to a table and stated that he would bring us two menus. After waiting for 15 mins and no one acknowledged us, until four Caucasian women walked in and the same hostess walked the young ladies right past us to their table with menus. We both got up and on the way out we simply told the hostess that he sucked and his reply was that the place was busy and how he had no control of the waiters. TOTAL BULLSHIT! NB: From the moment we walked in we felt the vibe. Sucks we have to mention this, yes we are African American and the only ones in their at the time. Found this gem simply by happenstance. Staying in a near by hotel and it was the closest diner to where we were. Impressive, incredibly large menu. I can't imagine there isn't something there for everyone your party. Food was great, home made chips were a great alternative to French fries. Staff was available, attentive, and helpful. Food came out in record fast time and was honestly good. Nice clean diner with a large sitting area and easy parking. Desert case looked incredibly tempting but I opted out at the last minute. Huge cheesecake slices and such.. Nothing really negative and bad to say. Gets my recommendation if you're in the area and looking for a quick stop and good meals. read more

No thank you. From the minute we sat down it was just not a good experience. We ordered wings to start. The server came back with our wings and told us they didn't have the sauce we asked for so just gave us plain wings. didn't tell us, or even asked if we still wanted it. Our food was cold and not very good. There were explosives going off in the restroom, probably from the food. And sure enough we went running to restroom shortly after. I am disgusted with my experience at the Stateline Diner. It was apparent as soon as I walked through the door that I was not welcome as an African American female. I came with my friend as well, and we both felt the tension at the establishment. When we approached the counter, not only were we ignored, but when they did speak to us, the man gestured with his hand for me to wait. My friend and I were shocked speechless by this. We felt so uncomfortable that we went to the car and called in the order. The lady on the phone was rude and impatient, but we thought that possibly it was just because it was late and busy. This was obviously not the case as it was a common thread among all of the workers we encountered. As soon as we came back thirty minutes later to pick up the order, we were met with the same tension and dismissal of every worker. Once again when we approached we were dismissed with a hand wave even when we could see our order sitting right behind the two men at the counter. I have never been met with such racist workers. And this is not an assumption. If you look through any of the reviews on this site, it is glaringly visible that any black person is not welcome within the walls of this racist diner. When we finally got our order, we rushed out of the establishment and started our 2 hour ride back home as we were not locals. When we got home, two things were incorrect, but it was not worth the two hour ride back. We decided that we wouldn't complain as we did not want to speak to these people again, but as soon as the charges went through my bank account, I realized that we were also severely overcharged. This is when I decided to call back with the idea that someone will hopefully just refund us for the 20 - 30 dollars we were overcharged, and possibly help us with the issue of the incorrect order. That did not happen at all. We were met with the same rude guy who passed the phone to a condescending manager, who revealed that she had put our order in wrong. From there she said there was nothing she could do, and did not offer any means of help. I ended up having to take this to my bank to dispute the charges. In conclusion, the workers are racist and unhelpful. It is amazing that this place is still standing when the food and service leave such a terrible aftertaste. Came here for a quick dinner tonight with my husband on the way home from Vermont. We were seated very quickly actually the hostess didn't even stop she just kept walking and sat us down. It took a few minutes for the waiter to come over to greet us but by the time he did we were ready to order. We both got the triple decker turkey club add avocado, mozzarella, and a side of onion rings and for him the grilled chicken club add cheddar. The food took 10 minutes to come out and when it did we were shocked because the portions of the club sandwhich was SO TINY. This is a triple Decker club, there should be an equal ratio of bread to actual sandwhich. I am not a big eater as it is but I killed that sandwhich it was very small club Bites that were super tall and skinny. The onion rings were not that flavorful so I probably wouldn't get them again. My husbands sandwhich was the same size with the bread but half the height of mine. It was very unusual to see a club this small- although it was tasty it wasn't worth the $14.50 after my three add ons. read more

Waitress was excellent and meal good as well in fact I think one of the better diners in the area but the greeting needs some work. It was a gentleman who seem dumbfounded by the fact I wanted to eat. Then a couple walked in and he seated them and when he came back I said well and again he seemed dumbfounded but he seated me. The greeting is the most important and that's what the customer sees when he or she walks in. But it was all uphill from there with the waitress being wonderful. Work on your greeting. Loved this place before the covid events. Have been a couple of times since, including this morning. Sadly, very disappointed. French toast today was barely warm and had virtually no batter. It really was just toast. Ordered a side of bacon soft. Got almost cold bacon that was pre-cooked and not soft. It is a fairly long drive for me and it is no longer worth the effort. I go to the State Line Dinner once in a while when I am going through Paramus NJ. Today I ordered a pot roast dinner. I felt what I thought was a bone in my mouth. To my horror it was a jagged edge of plastic about the size of a fingernail. It wasn't a nail. It looked like someone cut something open and it made it into my food. I asked to see the manager. I was told there wasn't one. I started to complain a bit louder and magically he appeared. I thought at first it was glass. He said it should be ok because it was only a jagged piece of plastic. I said either way if I ate it I would have required surgery. He said they would comp my meal but not my girlfriends. I was not happy because neither of us had eaten much of anything. Worst service imaginable! I ordered a RUBIN sandwich on the waiter's reccomendation, and verified the rye was grilled. Well, it came out open faced, with saurkraut directly on bread, then meat, then cheese. Well... it was impossible to close it, because it was a soggy mess, from the saurkraut on the bread. My attempt to eat it with a knife and fork was upsetting, because the bread was so wet. I double checked the menu, which has no mention of an open face anything. The waiter offered to wrap it up, I said no thanks, he asked why, and I told him. He then got angry with me, and argued. He didn't offer other options. He promptly issued the full check. I attempted to discuss this with a manager, who couldn't care less. The Russian dressing which I had to order separately was very good, but not good enough to make the Rubin edible. It was late so I was just going to make due- the corned beef wasn't even like warm and the rye bread was hard i asked another server for Russian dressing and finally my waiter appears- and I said "remember I ordered a Reuben. He gave me a very half ass "sorry". I'm like whatever. Subpar service and a below subpar waiter. What a waste. Your place is a joke. Delicious example of a classic New Jersey diner. Clean space, friendly and speedy service. We visited the state line diner after a Ridgewood Symphony concert. The store was not packed, but did have a healthy sprinkling of patrons on a Friday at about 9PM. The menu offers standard diner fare: cheese fries, chicken fingers, burgers galore. Out of the many choices available I selected the cobb salad, which was quite good - fresh and tasty. Not typical diner fare I know, and I realize I was taking a chance, but luckily it paid off. From the looks of it, their specialties are their breads and dessert. Our waiter was efficient and quick. He accurately and pleasantly delivered our order. My mom and I found this place while looking for somewhere to get dinner after driving down from MA for the weekend. Our first night was ok. We had an older woman as our waitress. She was nice, but a little slow. We both had ordered the Triple decker chicken salad sandwich. The chicken salad was awesome! Most places I've gotten chicken salad have it too loaded with extra spices or fillers like olives and onions. I wasn't able to eat much of it, but that was because I had been stressed after misplacing my wallet. The second night I ordered the portobello burger and my mom ordered ravioli with meatballs. Our waiter this time was a very boisterous gentleman, which was awesome! We were so full after our meal that we got dessert to go. The portions we received were very generous. My mom got the cheesecake, which was nice and creamy, and I got the tiramisu, which was phenomenal. I really liked the 24-hour aspect of this place as it gave us time to get back to our hotel and relax for a bit after spending the day at the renaissance faire. read more

This diner is sooo good. We sat at a comfortable both and were very quickly greeted by a very nice server. She was highly attentive throughout our meal. We started with mozzarella sticks. They came out quickly and were perfectly cooked. I ordered the Mexican omelette. The portion was sizable and it was delicious. With my meal, I also had this cappuccino frozen yogurt shake- IT WAS SO GOOD. Highly recommend this if you like both of those ingredients. Even though there are many diners closer to my home, I will definitely be coming back to State Line! read more
