But 1 star is for the worst experience, Our group sat in the family area near the barn, the girls who were taking care of the area were nice, but the rude guy who seemed to be in charge was very, very rude; he came to us and asked us to move to another area, my wife told him we were eight adult and two babies. He said, "It doesn't matter! You need to move!!" So our group moved to another area. This place is one of my favorite places to go. Let's start with the basics: The wine is stellar. Oftentimes vineyards that aren't in California aren't that good. Virginia wine has come a long way - and Stone tower's 2018 Riesling is one of my favorite wines of all time. The charcuterie board puts all others to shame. This place knows what it's doing. The perfect mix of meats, cheeses, and breads - perfection. They also are COVID friendly with outdoor tables... if you are a wine club member (which is worth it) you also have access to fire pits, and if you are more comfortable - you can sit inside. This is the best vineyard I've ever been to, hands down. If you are in the dc area, you must check this place out. The finishing touch is that the owners (or investors- but same deal right?) are furniture store owners... and it shows. The interior room is beautifully decorated and the wood is shiny and perfect - and the views are insane of the beautiful rolling hills of Virginia. The owners clearly invested some money in this place because it's awesome. I go at least once every few months, more often in warmer months. 10/10. read more

Stone Tower is one of my absolute favorite wineries near the DMV area. We went several times, brought friends, and we were never disappointed. Seating: There are SO many seating options at Stone Tower. There is a section for families & dogs, a section for 21+, and a section for wine club members. There is indoor seating, but it is limited. Additionally, there are a select number of umbrellas if you are interested in sitting outside, but want some shade. Views: Great views here! TIP - show up as close to opening as possible to secure a prime spot with the best views. Wine: Love the wine here - I would recommend getting a bottle and enjoying it at your table while taking in the scenery rather than doing a tasting, but either way you can't go wrong at Stone Tower. Food: AMAZING wood fire pizza. Definitely recommend a wood fire pizza to go with your wine. Wine + Pizza + Views = great day in the making. read more

We met a couple of friends who are members of the winery at Stone Tower a couple of weekends ago on a Saturday. Our friends had made reservations for the Tower View Tasting Room (which is members only). We all had a flight/tasting and then lunch. The bistro menu at the Tower View Tasting Room was good - lots of options. Among our group, we had or shared: dolce & ciabatta demi-baguette with compound butters; marinated olives; seared lamb chop risotto; tomato pie; smoked salmon pizza; and maybe more. The food was all good. The service at the bar for our tasting and at the table with our lunch was great. After our reservation time was up, we moved to the harvest barn. They offer a wide variety of wines (10+ options), so there's probably something for everyone. I learned that viognier is the state grape of Virginia, so I recommend checking a viognier out! The property is massive and gorgeous. We were there on a foggy, drizzly day, but the winery still offered beautiful views of the surrounding hills. It's a great place to spend a few hours with friends or family and enjoy some wine. (Because the weather was a little dreary when we were there, it might not have been as busy as usual. I can imagine that it's a popular place on a beautiful day!) Overall, I enjoyed myself, and I would be happy to return! read more

My husband and I went here for a little afternoon getaway from the city. There are 2 different parts of this winery, one is for reservations that can only be made if your a member of their wine club. We didn't have a reservation but was still able to find a great spot sitting upstairs at the HARVEST BARN. We got a wine flight, enough for 2 people, the crab sandwich and a pizza-the total came to about $100. The wine was great and the atmosphere is great. It was a little too cold to sit outside but the view is amazing! Tables are spaced out both outside and inside. If you want to sit outside I would just bring a blanket or extra warm blanket. To order food you order at a counter and then they bring it out to you. I ordered the roasted red pepper pizza and it was tasty-my husband had a couple slices but it was enough to fill me up. He got the crab sandwich with truffle fries, loved it so much! I would recommend it here if you are looking for a stop on a wine tour or just a spot to meet and have lunch! I should have read the reviews. Do not book this location! Especially if you are a large group. I booked two pergolas 12 ppl per pergola. I mentioned the policy with the person I booked with (Lauren) and they told me if I book two pergolas with two different names I would be okay. I made both reservations on the same call and used the same card. When my group arrived they met us at the gate and told us we could not be seated. I heard side remarks " oh they are here " . I truly felt uncomfortable and unwanted at the property. As the coordinator of the event I was embarrassed and my Mother's Day was ruined. After 30 minutes of talking with the manager Elizabeth she informed us she could make it work. Elizabeth did offer an apology to me however not to my group. At this point we felt so unwanted. I'm appalled by the unprofessionalism. I asked to speak to Elizabeth again and she was not available. The director of hospitality came down. She should have came down initially. After explaining what happed she offered a few bottles of wine. I asked to get a refund and she gave me one. I did not appreciate the way we were treated despite having a reservation. This establishment does not employ kind logical ppl. I am still appalled and disappointed by their response to our arrival. This review is consolidated and does not reflect the sarcastic tones , annoyed faces and mumbles from the staff that greeted us the second we got off the shuttle. Absolutely wonderful experience. For our annual "mother-son weekend" this was our choice of wineries to visit. My son reserved the Signature Experience for us. Our guide and leader, Hilarie, was fantastic! We were greeted warmly with a glass of "bubbles". We were 16 in our tour group which was a perfect size. Along the tour we got to sample the white wines. (Pours were good size and Hilarie offered more for anyone who would like). After visiting and learning about the production areas we went upstairs finish our experience. We were seated with another couple and we had 3 reds waiting for us along with a nice charcuterie and loaf of bread for 2. More questions answered and a nice friendly atmosphere. After the tour we enjoyed a glass of Cabernet Franc while overlooking the beautiful vineyard. The bottles are on the high end such as $40-$50 per bottle for some. So this place was ok. Very beautiful setting and property, but had issues immediately upon arrival. Our wine tour bus party had about 14 people and we all kinda agreed we'd buy our own tastings if we wanted to taste. Upon getting off the bus we were immediately greeted by a rep from the winery and asked how many in our party. We told her 14 and she said she could not accommodate parties of 8 or more without prior reservations. Our friend called days prior and asked over the phone if it was ok, to which she was told no problem without reservations. The host immediately asked for a name, which we didn't get since there was no reservations required. The host sold us stable for $100, after we asked if we could split the group in half, to which she said. I since we got off from the same bus. The whole encounter felt like she wanted to up-sell us the table or we'd have to leave. We opted to stay and paid for the table. The wine tasting itself was ok and wines were decent. The property was gorgeous! Our table was kinda far, so our hostess did the best to bring out the wines as often as she could. Prices were average and comparable to other wine tastings. Found this winery last year and really enjoyed the views they have over the vineyard. As with everything, COVID changed their business practice and you now had to have a reservation and be a member to enjoy their pizza. So, I signed up to become a member and couldn't be happier. We've always had outstanding service at Stone Tower and we enjoy both trying new wines and getting advice from the knowledgeable staff. Today we didn't have a reservation and couldn't get one same day on their app, so we decided to make the hour drive with our dog and see if they could accommodate us. When we arrived we were greeted in the parking lot by a hostess who inquired with the host station if they had room for 2 walk-in members with a dog. She advised us that they had a table on the patio with "no view". We were happy we could get seated and said we'd take the table. We parked and walked up to the host station with our dog. We were walked to a table on the lower level on the lawn overlooking the vineyard. It wasn't a table without a view, it was the best seat in the house! Shortly after we arrived Kevin came to our table to take our order. We ordered a bottle of Blanc de Blanc and inquired about a pizza. He said that there were several pizza orders ahead of us and didn't want us to be disappointed it if took some time (maybe 45 minutes) to get our pizza. We were in no rush so we ordered a pizza. To our surprise, the pizza came out well before 45 minutes and it was delicious. Prior to leaving we ordered a few more bottles of wine and Kevin graciously delivered it to our table. A bit of a far drive to get here however once you arrive you see the beautiful scene! We reserved a pergola for the afternoon which was great. You have to spend up to $500 in order to be in the Pergola section however that was not a problem for my group of 12 patrons. We started off by ordering several bottles of wine including the rose the Cabernet and the Savignon Blanc. The food here is not amazing however it does the job. The best part of the whole experience was the amazing scenery your set up on a hill right in the wine country what an amazing site. Good wines are found at Stone Tower Winery. We visited Stone Tower Winery and had a fine experience here. When we visited, we were able to get an outdoor table with our dog; however, I recommend making a reservation, as Stone Towery was busy on a weekday afternoon. For the four of us, we ordered a bottle of the norton, which was a solid wine. It wasn't my favorite norton wine that I had while in Virginia, but better than other wineries I visited around the region. On the menu, they also had two different bordeaux-style blends, which is my favorite kind of wine. Sadly, they didn't allow for tastings or glasses. You had to buy a bottle to try the wine, which I'm always hesitant about, especially if the bottle is close to $50. Along that same note, my boyfriend asked for a cup of water, which our server said he could buy. When he said he just wanted tap water, she explained that they don't offer tap water, so if he wanted water, he would need to buy bottled water. When we walked into the tasting room where the bathrooms were located, we saw that they had a jug of water that people could help themselves to. I'm confused as to why my boyfriend couldn't get tap water. If this was something that was self-served, it would've been nice for our server to inform us of such instead of demanding payment for water. Or is the water for wine club members only? Either way, an explanation would've been appreciated. I know businesses are struggling during COVID-19, but seems like this winery is trying to pinch every penny out of you. What a beautiful and vast winery with a lot of land and wine options! My sister lives close by to this winery but we visited for the first time when my mom came to town. We had such a wonderful time thanks to Amy and my mom thought she may be in heaven. When we arrived, we knew it was going to be packed because it was a beautiful October day and it was hard to find parking. It was pretty warm out but we walked up to an outdoor tasting bar in the kids and dog friendly area and began our tasting adventure with Amy. I was surprised that we had the full outdoor bar to ourselves because the indoor bars looked a bit crowded. I walked past Puccio's- a wood fired pizza food truck and knew I'd be wanting a slice later. At the bar, you could order a bottle, do a tasting, or have a glass of wine and we decided to do a tasting for $15. I thought the price was worth it. Amy did an awesome job explaining all the flavors, notes and origins of each wine we were having. She was also super sweet, understanding and patient. She was also pleasant to talk to which added to the experience. We started with a wild boar blanc de noir champagne and from the first sip, I had full confidence that I'd enjoy the rest of the experience. The wild boar brands are sourced from France and the estate ones were locally made wines from grapes grown on site. I liked the champagne a lot so my sister and I each got a bottle in the end. The wines progressed from lighter to heavier flavors in the red and white categories. I personally really enjoyed the red wines. The first red we tried was Wild Boar Malbec and it had cinnamon and vanilla notes on the nose. My mom ended up loving the plummy Estate Petit Verdot which was the last one we tried so we got a bottle to lure her back to Virginia. Amy also gave us a margherita pizza and I absolutely loved it. Wine and pizza are my favorites so by this point, I thought I was in heaven as well. After the tasting, we walked around and saw the 21+ area and stood over the patio to get a view of the whole vineyard and it was beautiful. There's weddings at Stone Tower every weekend so we were able to see wedding parties. The 21+ area had a different vibe; it was definitely more swanky and chic. It would be a good place to host a birthday party. However if you have a party greater than 8 people, you should make a reservation. Overall we had an amazing time here and I'd really like to come back, even if it's to enjoy the scenic views. read more

Great views, good wine, & horrible group policies. I have been going to stone tower for years and have always enjoyed the wine and the amazing views. Recently my perspective of this winery has changed for the worse. I was hoping to have a group of 15-20 people to come to stone tower to celebrate my 33rd birthday. We had read recent reviews that said that stone towers group policies had changed and they will harass you/not let your group in if you come with groups larger than 6 people. Instead of showing up to the winery without a reservation, I contacted the winery to book an outdoor covered table, which requires a $150 deposit. The outdoor tables have a limit of 12 people per table, so we asked if we could book two tables next to each other for $300. We were told that this is not allowed, and our only option was to book a indoor space that came with a $1,050 deposit. Keep in mind the deposit cost is just to rent the space, and guests would still need to purchase food and wine on top of this fee. We are willing to pay to rent a space, but $1,050 for an indoor location is just insane. The group policies at stone tower are absolutely ridiculous. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else with more relaxed group policies so you can actually enjoy yourself with good wine and the people you love. read more

My family has been going to Stone Tower for years and have spent thousands on over the time we've been going. We think it's one of the most beautiful and iconic wineries in Northern Virginia. Today, we visited to celebrate a family member's whitecoat ceremony. The last time we came here was pre-COVID, and we didn't know that outdoor food is no longer allowed... while disappointing, we just shrugged our shoulders and left the cooler in the car. The most disappointing aspect of this visit was that while some of us were let in, most of our group of 10 were questioned by the manager regarding whether they were with us. We were then told to sit on the grass instead of taking two adjacent tables on the patio (which were available, by the way). By this point of the visit, we had spent $150 on wine total, 15 minutes into our visit, and we are being told to sit on the grass. (??) We spoke to both the manager and whoever reported to the manager, because if you looked at the patio, there were several groups of adults on the patio which were larger than 7 (their arbitrary limit for who gets to sit on the patio). It felt like we were being unfairly targeted, so we asked the manager's manager (lol) if they would break up the other groups in front of us (they didn't). We have never once experienced this issue being at Stone Tower. What was funny is that eventually they graciously gave us permission to sit on the patio as long as our tables weren't right next to each other. Like... what? Do the people that operate this establishment understand that people visit wineries to socialize? We left and went to Barrel Oak, were never harassed and were able to eat the food we brought. I'll probably try this place again in five years but until then, I won't be recommending it to anyone and hope this review causes people to think twice before patronizing a business that is this anti-customer. read more

We signed up for membership while there and did not understand (i.e., read the fine print) that there is a 1-year commitment to purchase 12 bottles per year. At an average of $40 a bottle, this is pricey. When I called to cancel, I was advised that there would be a $50 charge to cancel membership. I would recommend a visit every now and then but I do not recommend membership in the wine club. read more

We started eating outside, but the wind got the best of us, so we moved indoors. I wasn't able to take good pictures of the food and wine, but I'll definitely be back to do so. Beautiful winery, but shady hidden automatic fees are not cool. The winery is exactly what you'd expect for the area - very expensive for relatively unimpressive wine, but still good quality as far as Virginia wineries are concerned. My issue is the automatic 20% fee I was charged. When I attempted to close out my tab at the end of the day, I was told there was no open tab. Lo and behold, I find the bar closed my tab out themselves with a 20% tip. Given that I attempted to close my own tab out in person, this is wildly unfair and shady. I was issued a $10 fee for a bottle of wine that I poured and bussed myself. I'm sure I'll find myself here for future events, but I will be closing out my tab immediately with no tip. It's a bummer, but that feels like the only resolution to their scammy tip theft. read more

This winery is absolutely gorgeous; the view alone makes it worth the trip. There is ample parking and visitors can choose the surrounding that best fits them, either upscale or more relaxed. Closest to the entrance is are two large, beautiful buildings that reminiscent of country clubhouses and an adjoining stone patio. It would be a very romantic setting for a date or an intimate party. Just across the way there is a converted wooden barn and outdoor lounge area, which was more casual and attracted families with children and a number of dogs. This is where my group sat and spread out a picnic feast we brought with us. There was also a food truck behind the barn. There are two bars inside the very attractively decorated two story barn. The wine was good, but not particularly memorable for the price. I had a glass of the rose, which was about $12, and sampled a Chardonnay, which I liked better. My only real gripe was that there was no water available except for bottles for sale behind the bar because their one and only water cooler wasn't working. When it's 98 degrees and you're sitting in the sun drinking wine, you're going to get dehydrated very quickly! read more

This winery is amazing in so many ways. The views are impeccable and the staff are so beyond courteous and accommodating! Their food menu is "simple" yet elegant and fits their vibe perfectly. We tried one of their pizzas and 2 smaller dishes (crab fondue and Parmesan truffle fries) and all were awesome, especially when eating out on the patio and looking out at the amazing views. Their wine selection is impeccable and it goes without saying that you cannot go wrong with any of them. When my hubby suggested this spot, it seemed really complicated. We had to make reservations and they had an intense sounding menu. I didn't like the idea of being locked into a specific time, and my husband chose outside seating, which made me nervous because you just never know about Virginia weather in April. Got the set-up? When we arrived it was super windy and cold, but I couldn't deny that the setting was gorgeous. The hostess confirmed our reservation and asked if outside was fine. I asked if we could move to indoors, and she said that was fine. We were there on a Thursday at 3, and she said the ballroom has open seating when they don't have events. She handed us a menu and sent us off to the bar to order. The menu didn't mention a tasting option, so again, I felt a little unsure. My husband had an idea of what he wanted, but I told him to brace himself for me to ask some questions. I started by saying that I'd love some recommendations, and immediately, the lovely bartender/sommelier began pouring a taste for each of us. She ended up cheerfully explaining generous tastes of 6 or 7 of their wines. She was relaxed and personable and we bantered with her and a few other sommeliers. I was amazed - I've paid $14 for tastings with pours less generous and bartenders much less friendly. Her willingness to provide this full service for free left us eager to indulge. We walked away with a delightful bottle of bubbly and an order for way too much food that they brought out to us. While we enjoyed the blackened trout BLT and truffle fries (both amazing) along with the cherry bubbly, a surprise April shower of snow flurries fluttered outside the windows (thank goodness we sat inside!). The couch was comfy, view was peaceful, and the atmosphere perfect for a group or romantic teta-tet. Why should you take the trouble to make a reservation and go all the way out there? I'm disappointed. I visited Stone Tower a couple of years ago with a group for a tour/tasting. We toured some other wineries in the area that day and I remembered that Stone Tower was my favorite. The winery was just getting on its feet. The grounds were beautiful and serene. The staff was wonderful and lavished us with their time. The wine was young, but that was to be expected. My boyfriend had never been there before and I remembered how much I liked the place, so I suggested that we return. This time, we didn't opt for a scheduled tour, just the tasting (which was a bit pricey). Unfortunately, the wine hadn't improved, but each of the red wines had actually gained an acidic property with a disturbingly chalky finish. I didn't try any of the whites. We didn't feel tempted to buy a glass or a bottle and stick around after the tasting. The grounds are still lovely, but crowded. The staff was pleasant, but the person working our tasting knew next to nothing about wine. The focus was on getting people through the door instead of the quality of the wine (quantity over quality). There are so many other wineries in Loudoun County, they really need to improve the quality of their wines to get repeat business. read more
