The Veggie pizza!!! I'm in love!! They came to my work for the first time today, and for $3 a slice no one was going to pass that up. I ordered a slice of pepperoni and then my friend asked about the veggie, but then ended up getting the sausage and pepperoni. We looked at each other and already knew we needed to try the veggie with all those toppings. So we were absolute fat kids and split that slice. Best decision I've made this year! Their crust is perfectly crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, completely holds up with all the toppings on the veggie. It is not greasy on the bottom at all. The veggie was spicy with those jalapenos and the feta added so much more flavor. The pepperoni was spot on, also not greasy, just a spot on good slice of pepperoni. I hope they continue visiting here regularly, I am a huge fan. read more

Had a fantastic sausage and pepp late night slice here after some Rainey Street fun. The crust was hot and crispy, there was a perfect cheese and sauce ratio. I love pizza, I can eat it everyday! When I saw Stony's Pizza on our food truck calendar I had to give them a try. These pizza slices were very generous and at a great price. Even better with the discount for my Yelp check in. So let's talk about these slices. I love that the it had a good crunch and chew on the crust. The toppings are plenty and delicious. I've eaten off this truck twice now. My husband is not a fan of Hawaiian pizza so I took advantage of eating pizza by myself one day. Ham pieces covered the slice and the pineapple was sprinkled perfectly in between. Their veggies pizza is also good. Toppings a plenty. The sauce is really good too. It has good flavor and tang. This sucked. First of all, it wasn't in the parking lot where it was supposed to be, so we paid to park and walk all the way down Rainey street, when we got to Stony's eventually, it was located inside a bar patio area and we were denied access because we didn't have an ID to show we were 21- apparently you have to be 21 to walk into a wooden deck and order a slice of pizza IN the eye line of the bouncer still. So in conclusion, don't waste your time. Don't waste your money. Stony's was not in the right place and is only accessible to 21+. Pretty stupid if you ask me. All we wanted was a single slice we weren't trying to slip into the bar. Don't go. read more

Hello folks, Consider this a warning about working with this truck! My experience with Stony's is that they have been serving at my corporate office weekly for 1 year++. I have seen every thing done wrong at this truck from undercooking the pizza to smoking a cigarette in the trailer while serving. I have even seen a car come to stock the truck up with ingredients, and there was a dog riding in the back of the car WITH THE INGREDIENTS. Aside from bad health practices, these guys are rude. This NY style pizza gets you NY style rudeness. The owner has argued with me over how many pizzas they had put out for a catering order, which they did not fully fill but were glad to charge me for a pizza that they did not provide. These pizzas are $20 for a large, which is standard in Austin, but only with 1 topping - this is unacceptable to me! Stony's Pizza provides customers with the worst smelling Parmesan I have ever experienced. It literally smells like feet, we call it 'feet Pizza' and it stinks up the whole office. Sure, they may be $4 a slice, but it used to be $3, and that's all I would ever hope to pay for a pizza this bad. Frankly, I'd rather get a $1 Economax frozen pizza. If you want great pizza in Austin, go try Little Deli, and if you want that pizza out of a truck, find Al Capriccio Pizzeria. read more

It was a warm evening after Quinn B's volleyball game and my kickball game. We got cleaned up and ready for Electric Touch, Nico Vega, and headliner She Wants Revenge at Emo's. As Mr. Smidgens and his lovely lady met up with our friends who were so gracious to invite us we realized we needed to eat. Our buddy mentioned Stony's so, we walked on over to the big red truck and noticed the Yelp review sign they had out front for the world to see! We both decided on a slice of pepperoni. It's great that they accept master card and Visa! We chose to pay cash. After waiting a few minutes the slices were ready. Mr. Smidgens went with the Brooklyn fold and Quinn decided on the grab, slide, and bite. The crust was like biting into a soft and sexy pillowy cloud. The sauce did not drip off the slice and tasted fresh not tangy and or from a can. The cheese stayed in place as the slices of pepperoni clung to their marks like seasoned actors! At $3 a slice it was a good deal. The fact that we were both sober made me think that this pizza would be friggin awesome at 2am! I am sure Mr. Smidgens and Stony's will cross paths once again. read more

Walking to a show last night I announced to my friends my plan to to try ALL 2 am eats in the downtown area. It's a mighty task, but I'm up to it. So, on our stroll I decided to take a poll and find out which late night pizza pie was the crowd fave. There wasn't a resounding winner, but on our walk we passed by Stony's and it came highly recommended by a new friend. I vowed to try it out and well, one rockin' show and a few bevies later, I was ready for my taste test. The shiny red van is pretty irresistible. Like a beacon in a slightly drunken storm it welcomed us. Father Steve and son Tony (get it, Stony's) run the biz together. While pappa Steve draws in the crowds with his sweet-talkin', son Tony prepares and bakes all pies himself within the confines of their well manicured van. When we walked up to place our orders, Tony asked if we wouldn't mind waiting five minutes. He preferred serving us pizza right outta the oven than selling us two not so fresh slices. Props to a business owner who takes extra pride in showcasing his product at its best. Those five minutes were well worth the wait, folks! Zesty sauce, delicious melty cheese that slapped me on the chin with every bite, uh!, and pepperoni that wasn't charred, yes! And don't even get me started on that freakin' crust, so light and so fluffy I'd like to stuff my pillows with it! To summarize: Stony's pizza = good stuff! Go eat some, NOW! Bad: The drunk douchebags in line around you. And believe me, if it's Sixth Street on a weekend, they'll be there. Our latest pizza travels takes us to the dirty 6th to the Stony's Pizza truck. Stony's started in late 2007 when a father and son team from Boston figured out there are a lot of drunks and a lot of bad pizza being served to them. So they pulled this fully equipped truck up to Red River and 6th and started serving some of the best pizza in that area. For the review we played it somewhat safe and went down on a Thursday night to avoid the mayhem of 6th street. We were greeted by the son, he went over some options (slices, pies, prices) and for the sake of the review, we elected to get a full pie. While the pie was baking we went around to the front of the truck to watch him and see what they were using. While not totally surprised I was a little bummed to see them using a little conveyor belt oven but I know they are limited with options inside of the truck. He hand-stretched some fresh dough topping it with some quality sauce (Stanislaus) and a very heavy-handed dose of cheese with pep on half. After the quick 8 minute bake it was ready to be destroyed by our hungry asses. We quickly started eating it and were very happy with the flavor. The bake you get on the conveyor is not perfect (typically lacking some crunch and structure to the crust) but it did a sufficient job on this pie. While it lacked the crisp or browning it was at least cooked all of the way through. The cheese was some of the best tasting cheese we have had on a pizza recently (we asked and it is mozz despite tasting a little like white cheddar) and the sauce was light but flowed so perfectly with the great pepperonis that had a nice char on them. I honestly don't think you could ever make a 5 star pizza out of a trailer on a conveyer oven, but I also think given the right tools and place these guys would be turning out some 5 star pies. I think the love, appreciation and attention to detail is there. Stony's is cooking up some home runs out of this truck so don't be a cheap ass, spend the extra buck and avoid Roppolo's garbage truck of a pizza shop. read more

There aren't many better feelings than finding your new favorite pizza place after being completely unimpressed with what most of the city considers "the best". Last night I was pulled out to go see a show at Emo's. We got there early and decided to just grab whatever was closest. The great news is that what was closest turned out to be one of my new favorites. The crust! Oh god, the crust. I almost want to order just that. It is clear that they make the sauce or at least have it made fresh for them. The cheese is delicious and as a previous reviewer said, slaps your chin on nearly every bite. I had the vegetable slice, and my friend had the cheese. We both sampled the other's slice and almost wanted to switch. My friend said this was even better than the pizza he lived off of while living in Manhattan. The other great news is how wonderful these guys are. I tend to pay with cards and their card system does not accept tips. I told them I'd certainly be back with cash to give a tip and they were very insistent that it wasn't necessary. The pizza here was made just right. We got the sausage and pepperoni pizza. The crust was thin and soft. The pepperoni was baked crispy around the edges and the sausage was abundant. The cheese and tomato sauce proportion was just right - not too little and not too much. I was splitting a slice with my girl and the guy even offered to split it for us. After a night out on "Dirty 6th" I found myself craving pizza and ended up at Stony's. The slice was 4 bucks and at first I was a little taken back by that....come on, I'm a cheap Californian! Once the pizza was on the plate in my hands though, it was instantly devoured and let me just say...WELL WORTH THE $4 I paid for it! So, so good. The crust is just right, the sauce to cheese ratio is on point, and they're definitely not stingy with their pepperoni. Yummmmm, wish I could get another slice right now. Also, I was having a conversation with some drunk guy about the best rapper in the world. I mentioned that Slug of Atmosphere, aka Sean Daley, was the bizz and there was no arguing that. Their menu is small, consisting of just four types of pizza (Veggie, Cheese, Pepp, Pepp & Sausage) with minimal extras (ranch or jalapeños for an $1). PROS - All slices are a flat $3 - Generous slice size - Not too oily - Cheese doesn't slide off CON (sorta) - The $1 extra for jalapeños or ranch seems pret-ty steep. Bad pizza, bad service. Food truck came to the neighborhood and I read great reviews. Decided to try them, got three different slices. First I got the text saying they were ready - they weren't. I waited and waited, no one telling me what's going on. Finally the guy ands me three plates with pizza's on them. So I'm supposed to drive home with three plates of pizza sitting on my lap? I ask for a box and of course that takes another 10 minutes. Then I get handed the biggest box on Earth with three terrible slices in them. The pepperoni slice had three pieces of pepperoni for crying out loud. It's basically just a huge cheese slice. I wish I hadn't pre-tipped them. I want my two bucks back. Actually I want all my money back and the time it took to get the not-so-hot mess. Stony's should stick to feeding the drunk masses and stay out of our neighborhoods. read more

First of all, their prices are slap-your-cousin awesome; two people can each eat a piece of pizza (the size of which would make Newt Gingrich blush) and drink a chilled canned soda water beverage for under $10. Second, the pizza is actually good. Yes, Austinites, there is such a thing as bad pizza (I'm talking to you, Austin Pizza Garden and all the other weak-sauced, flaky-crusted establishments that think they can slap cheese and pepperoni on a wafer and call it a New York-styled pie). From the flavor to the texture, you'll be hard-pressed to find something tastier that fits so neatly in the palm of a 12 inch paper-plate. Finally, they are super duper fast. From the moment you order to the point at which you are conquering your hunger, I guarantee you will only have time to play two rounds of Angry Birds, three at the most. They can have it ready for you in less time than it takes to find a lesbian transvestite alien hooker wearing a Red Sox cap on 6th street (so about five minutes). Do yourself a favor: get really hungry, and then go to Stony's. Your belly and wallet will be screaming for seconds. read more

This is the best slice downtown in both taste and value. For $3, you can get a slice that's about 1/5 of a pie. For $4, it gets topped with whatever they are doing that night (I recommend the pep-sausage). They have a close to perfect crust to stuff ratio. Staying on the crust, it is a prime example of the crispy-chewy style you expect from a NY style slice, and while it's not an exact doppleganger for a Northeastern pie, the crust always ends up in my belly rather than the trash can. I will make the trip to the red truck and skip over other downtown pizza-by-the-slice places if I'm anywhere close to Stony's. I suggest you do the same. read more
