I can't believe I've never tried Sub King before! I pass by it on the way to Costco all the time. Luckily one day on Yelp I found them while looking for a new sandwich shop to try. We ordered sandwiches for pick up over the phone and in 15 minutes drove over! I got a small Turkey and Cheese (8" sub) on homemade multigrain bread ($4.99) with no mayo. I think the cheese was Swiss?? But it was never specified haha. They give a reasonable amount of turkey slices. A small was the perfect size for me! I was able to finish it and feel satisfied but not TOO stuffed. I have to say though...the homemade bread was sooo yummy!! It's really what made the sandwich great for me. The color was almost black and it tasted hearty. This mom and pop shop is so affordable and the employees are so kind. We were able to say thank you to the 2 ahjummas making sandwiches in the kitchen! They accept credit card! The menu has a wide variety of cold and hot sandwiches, salads, and even breakfast items. No inside seating so everything is to go. Pastrami and the turkey and swiss are my favorites here. I love a great sandwich full of what a sandwich should be: meat. I mean essentially is the meat and bread that we pay for realistically. The Sub King delivers! My turkey and swiss sandwich, although, sounds simple is actually difficult. It's challenging to get the right amount of bread to meet to condiments ratio perfectly right. My sandwich for a large 12" cold turkey Sub was about $9 give or take but worth it. Here at the Sub King, they do it right. They do it fast. And they do it with really good service, plus a smile. There is a little wait (5-6 min) while they make the sandwich fresh. I think I might have found my new sandwich shop choose to work. Come check this place out. They've got some good eat's! read more

I have found my new sandwich spot, the bread is made in house and way better than To-gos and Subway! I called to place my phone order, I ordered a small #11 Italian Cold Cut on French roll and a small #14 King Club on French roll as well. Small is 8 inches which big enough! I can imagine that the 12 inch sub can be shared. When I did my phone order, the lady was having a hard time understanding me. But when I picked up, it was correct. The ingredients are fresh starting with the soft bread and I life that my cold cub was a COLD sub. I hate when I buy a cold sub from subway and its room temperature. Anyway, the sandwiches are cut in half and have the right amount of deli meats. Located in a small plaza across from costco gas. Mom and pop sub shop owned by a nice friendly elder couple, I believe they were Korean. Ladies in the kitchen waved and greeted me as I came in. Ordered the Turkey avocado bacon on house made bread lunch combo with a drink and chips for $7.50. The small sandwich was 8 inches. They accept credit card +++. Very sweet lady who made the sandwich brought it to my table with a smile. You could tell the sandwich was made with love as how the Turkey slices were folded in the sandwich. Good sandwich, good prices, friendly staff. Will definitely come back to try something new and bring some coworkers here to support this gem of a place. And it sucks when they are closed on Sundays or certain holidays, and when they are not open past 5pm. I'm torn between a 3 star and 4 star a review as a few years ago I would be giving them a 5 star rating. Why am I giving less stars? Staff is amazing. My problem is that I used to absolutely love their tuna sandwich. I don't know what happened but it just doesn't have the wow factor it used to have. I don't know if they changed the way they prepare it or a new distributor of their tuna, but it's just not the same. The other issue is I feel they cutdown on how much tuna they use on the sandwich. This is truly one of Long Beach's many little gems. Been enjoying their delicious menu for 5 years now. There was a time where I'd pick up a lunch order 3 times a week.
