They had a container of salt on the table and I usually add a heaping scoop to bring the flavors out. Their texture of their brown rice is so good- very chewy. Went here this past weekend ~ 11 pm after Head in the Clouds and I guess everyone had the same idea as the wait was over an hour long. However, the wait time isn't usually this bad (usual wait time for me: less than 15 min). Galbi-jjim: The braised beef short ribs and back ribs are so tender and flavorful. Definitely a must try if it's your first time here! You can add cheese and rice cakes for an additional price. If you do order the cheese, they will torch it in front of you so that it melts over the meat, carrots and potatoes. Great option to share with a group as the portion is big and you most likely will have enough leftovers for the next day. Soups: Can't go wrong with any option in my opinion, but I tend to gravitate towards #7 (Galbi Tang) and #12 (Tta Roh Guk Bap). Something to note is that options #1-8 and #10 come with noodles and regardless of what option you choose, rice (purple or white) will be provided on the side. I'm really disappointed with our recent order. The taste of the food has completely changed, and I honestly have no idea what we even got because everything looked like mush. The meat wasn't tender, the potatoes and carrots had a strange, uneven texture, and there was barely any sauce or flavor. It tasted like the potatoes were overcooked, broke down into the sauce, and made everything starchy. The vegetables were super mushy on the outside but somehow undercooked in the middle -- it was bizarre. This is nothing like the galbijim we remember from here. We were so excited that we even ordered a large so we could take home leftovers, but we left wishing we hadn't ordered it at all. For a dish that cost around $100, this was extremely disappointing. We're regulars here and find that the soups are pretty consistent in delivering that punchy flavor Korean spicy soups excel at. My usual order is Tta Roh Guk Bap, which has a nice combo of plenty of soaked dried cabbage that really absorbs the soup nicely, and often a decent amount of beef brisket. On a good day, you could get quite a lot of meat, and it will be tender; some days, there's less, and it's firmer. The meat part of it is kind of up to your luck on what the kitchen scoops for you, but more often than not, it's relatively tender and a decent amount. I also really appreciate the breakfast prices and the banchan is tasty. Overall, Sun Nong Dan's menu, including their banchan, is more friendly to those who are comfortable with some spice/chili, though there are a few items that are not spicy, such as their Dduk Guk and Galbi Tang, and both are pretty good. I will note that the spicy soups vs non-spicy soups have a pretty different flavor profile, so if you are able to try the spicy ones, it's worth it! For the latter, the primary flavor notes are bone broth, garlic, black pepper, and scallions, I think, and for the former, it is maybe more complex and even more flavorful - I can't even guess. I will say this distinction is generally the case for the broths of Korean cuisine in general, for anyone who's not explored the spicy side of Korean food. It seems like a small detail, as well, but I also consistently like the rice served here - it's the more glutinous type of rice favored in Korean cuisine that has a great texture. I always get the purple rice, just bc I like it, though imo there's not a huge taste difference between white and purple. There's a difference, but it's subtle. Purple also maybe just is a touch more whole-grained in texture, but not by much. Our server yesterday, Judy, was especially sweet and helpful, and really helped us to enjoy our time there! Parking in this plaza can be slightly challenging at popular times, so if you're able to, coming a little early (if making an appointment with friends) can be good! read more

But a recent order of 4 Chadol Sullungtang was different looking because there was an unusual amount of fat in the meat. There was long lines for smoking tiger and tofu house, I thought that there might be a line here but there was no wait here during Sunday lunch around 11:30am. Restaurant is spacious, wide open space, high ceiling, well vented so you don't leave the restaurant smelling like what you ate. Everything was clean. The staff were all very nice and friendly. We ordered the #1 soup beef dish and #24 medium. Soup was bland, need to add salt and kimchi for some flavor. We did use some of the soup to wash off the excess chili flavoring on the Galbi Jjim for our little one. The dish has really good flavoring and the meats on the bone and off were tender and easy to eat. The bits of potato in there soaked in the sauce we delicious. The medium was a lot of food for 3 hungry adults, we had so much left over. We didn't opt for the cheese because one of us is lactose. It was cool to see the other tables with the flaming cheese. At the end of the meal, a male server with slightly longer hair brought me the POS machine, and I noticed that an 18% tip had already been added to the total -- without giving me any option to choose the tip amount myself.
