A strong 3.5 stars for me. The main negatives we'll talk about later. Tucked away in the "restaurant row" of downtown Kirkland is the new expansion of Supreme Dumpling. Its a nicely designed, clean, open air restaurant that all the SD lovers can flock to instead of flooding the Bellevue location. More options always equals better. Supreme Dumpling has skyrocketed to success ever since opening their first location in Bellevue, deservedly so. The XLBs are solid alternatives to Din Tai Fung no doubt. In some ways, preferred because the tip of the dumplings are soft whereas at DTF they can be slightly coarse or crunchy or dry on top. This allows for a complete smooth dumpling wrapper experience and imo more delicate like it should be. Not pictured is the Beef Broth soup which is a staple order of mine always at SD. Its just my little "home away from home" hot but simple little comfort cup of enjoyment. Its always a top 2 must order, obviously anyone going to a dumpling house is ordering dumplings, but a suuuuper close second for me is the little beef broth soup. Spicy Pork wontons are next up and we usually order it with hot sauce on the side, but might go back to OG style soon. Its always good, however, the size of the wontons have been slowly decreasing and that is a big NO-NO for me. They were easily a 5 star dish for me here, but size decrease easily drops it a whole star for me. Dan Dan noodles are tasty, though a bit oily and greasy. Everyone always loves this dish, yet always complain at the end its too greasy. Yet everyone always orders it, what can you say. Red Bean dumplings are a nice finishing dessert. Same delicate wrapper and not sweet red bean filling. Simple, and elegantly done. Not mind blowing, but satisfying. Now the negatives and there are 3 of them. First was mentioned already, the won ton size decrease is very much not appreciated. The fried rice is just NOT GOOD. Although this one visit there was definitely more egg in it, the fried rice itself remains bland and tasteless. I'm not a fan of adding sauce to make something taste better and that is certainly the case here as it was in Bellevue. Again, appreciated that there was more egg (this one time), but man.....the blandness is just such a shock and not fitting of the rest of dishes at SD. Third, the bathroom situation, just not great. Although markedly better then the Bellevue location, its the same shared restaurant bathroom experience with other establishments. Its not like this is a bad part of town and low budget restaurants surrounding this area, they certainly can and should get together to modernize and clean up a fundamental thing such as having respectable bathrooms. read more

I was so looking forward to this second location in Kirkland, after having had a very good experience at their original Bellevue location. Nope, nope, nope. Fail, epic fail. They have gone the DZ route and is now machine making their XLB, instead of handmaking. Major pet-peeve. On top of that, nearly all their dishes were bland to boring. How inexperienced do they expect their clientele to be that they provide metal tongs with sharp teeth to grip the XLB? Hello, the broth will leak out! Maybe the Bellevue location is still handmaking their XLB; I don't know. Food quality wise, Din Tai Fung (DTF) is now supremely better than both Supreme Dumplings (SD) and Dough Zone (DZ). Both SD and DZ are blacklisted now. Being a newer restaurant, most of the staff are clearly inexperienced. I am willing to not ding them for that. When we went, none of the pan-fried items were available yet. Some are available now. The location is on Park Lane, a premium address in Kirkland. The front is a garage door style that allows for a continuous outside seating on nice days. It was nonetheless still hot inside. Need more fans. The Food: Supreme Pork Xiao Long Bao (8), $12 - 2 Stars These machine-made XLBs are on the smaller size. The flavor is sufficient. One of them has a broken skin when it was delivered to the table. (A big no-no) If you want to know what a handmade one looks like, look up the Bellevue location and find my review and photo. Or just look at any DTF photos. They didn't give us the dishes with ginger, and we had to ask. Drunken Chilled Chicken, $10.50 - 0 Stars They forgot the "drunken" ingredient when making this dish. It's more like boiled chicken with some herbs thrown on top to make it look better than it is. One of the table mates said the portion size was dramatically smaller than previous visits, and this visit was her third time there. Huge fail. Pork Chop Fried Rice, $15 - 2.5 Stars This was an ok dish, amongst tonight's dishes, which is not a very high bar. The pork chop pieces are not nearly as crispy or as hot as or as big as other Taiwanese restaurants. (Try Young Café.) The fried rice is flavorful. Stir Fried Seasonal Greens with Garlic, $11 - 2 Stars Our waitperson couldn't tell us what the seasonal greens of the day was. She said she was told to say, "It's like a bok choy." I think the kitchen manager can prep their staff better than this. The veggie is choy sum, also known as yu choy sum or cai xin. In any case, this was a very bland dish. We all ate plenty of garlic veggies in our lives, but this is bland and flavorless even with visible garlic pieces. Needed salt. Steamed Chicken Soup, Steamed Beef Soup, $9.50 each - 2 Stars Both were meh. They were underwhelming. The flavor just isn't there. Maybe it needs salt, too. I love the chicken soup at DTF. I was and am excited that's this place open in Kirkland downtown area and right during summer when we can have patio dining. The soup dumpling is great! The shell was think and soft, the juice was plenty inside and the meat taste have good flavor! The spicy pork wonton was also meaty and with big piece of shrimp and fresh taste and the wrapper was soft. However it as kind of bland, imo and the sauce was not at all spicy. In general I don't think this place does anything spicy but then again I eat my meal with 3 Thai chilies so I am probably not the best judge of spicy. However this was where it end - the vegetable with garlic was tasteless; the drunken chicken is ok; even the tan tan noodle could be done better. It should be less watery and thicker sauce. Last but not least - two of the servers who put the plates down did not flinch an eye when they spill the water (sauce) from the chicken and the noodle dish when they place the dishes on the table. The table had these small opening where the juice could have just gone through and fall on our legs/feet (thank god it didn't). But it did bother me they just didn't care the least bit. Of course I will return for the soup dumpling but I hope they can do something with the noodle ; add the flavor to the wontons and improve their customer service. read more

What I love about establishments like Din Tai Fung is that you can expect a consistent level of quality of food and service most of the time. With Supreme Dumplings it is a bit more of a hit or miss. The first time I was here with friends, it was absolutely amazing, wonderfully flavorful food: from dim sums to pork chop fried rice to drunken chilled chicken to seasonal veggies. The second visit more recently was a bit off though, with the food distinctly less impressive. Maybe it comes down to which shift it is in the kitchen, maybe something else. For now, I might stick to DTF as my go-to. The service was and is super friendly tho. Oh, and the lava dumplings are a must. read more

Came right when they opened on a Sunday and was told their kitchen was having difficulties and they would be delayed an hour. We wandered around for a little bit and saw they had started seating people already. Put our names down on the waitlist and continued to wait longer. When we were finally seated, we ordered right away. And then waited a LOT LONGER for the food to come... It was to the point that the table next to us complained to the manager, who comped a portion of their meal. Eventually he did the same for us, since we were waiting equally long. The soup dumplings themselves definitely hit the spot. The dandan noodles were also pretty satisfying. I was pretty let down with my custard buns though. I had expected the consistency to be a little thicker, but it was almost watery. We came maybe a week or two after their grand opening. Not sure if they were still trying to get situated, but I'd be willing to give them a second chance. read more

We dined in for the first time yesterday evening around an hour before closing. It took us about 10 minutes to be seated even though the restaurant was not busy. The restaurant ambiance was very nice, and the weather was nice enough for it to be open to the fresh air which was nice. We ordered the pork xiao long bao, truffle and chicken xiao long bao, shrimp fried rice, green beans, and dessert black sesame mochi rice balls. The xiao king bao was very good. Definitely the highlight of the dinner. The shrimp fried rice was bland and the green beans were just okay. The texture of the mochi rice balls were good, but we only liked the peanut flavor. Probably just a preference thing. All in all, we had high expectations for this place, as we'd heard it was better than din tai fung. The xiao long bao was in our opinion better than din tai, but everything else was a let down. We will probably continue to go to din tai fung instead. read more

My new favorite dumpling restaurant. If you leave a yelp/google review they'll charge only 99c for a soft drink, but it excludes the matcha green tea which I ended up ordering.. There was pop music playing throughout our time eating here and we liked the playlist. The lighting scheme throughout the restaurant made it a fine dining experience. The price also reflects it. Our food came out ~5 minutes after we ordered and there was no one else in the restaurant. The dumplings are fresh and we were able to eat them right after they were served without burning our mouths. My wife enjoyed pairing the thinly sliced ginger with her dumplings. The supreme pan fried pork buns had the perfect amount of crunch at the bottom and the filling didn't make the bread soggy on the inside. The charcoal gold lava custard bun with gold flakes was by far our favorite. Good presentation and taste. We'll come back for more. 5 outta 5 read more

This is our go to dumplings and Dan Dan noodles spot on the upper East side! The dumpling skin comes out thinner and more refined than DTF in my opinion. The tan tan noodles have a nice chewy QQ texture to them and the right amount of condiments to make the dish pretty addictive. The service here has always been good and the restaurant is a lot bigger than their Bellevue location which is nice for folks like myself who needs stroller space. read more

We were very excited to try our Supreme Dumplings. The ambiance felt spectacular, open air seating on a warm summer day. The place was busy when we got there. Thankfully we made reservations. We had to wait a bit but it's not a big deal. I can't help but feel like they're trying to compete with another restaurant DTF. Unfortunately, all the dishes and service was subpar. The hot and sour soup was runny and didn't have body. The pork fried rice was over cooked and tough. The pork did have the bone attached, which made it more authentic. It's a great location. Reservation wasn't taken as stated on their Instagram Post today. Wish they honored what was advertised online for people who were drove and showed support. Came on time for our 12:45 reservation but were told they were not taking online reservations. Asked if we are willing to wait for 1 hour (can't say no after already driving here). On a bright note, still here to show some love for the opening :) 5/5 Food: Main reason and they never failed. Though we'll still prefer the Bellevue location due to distance and post-dessert asian stops. Tastes just like the location in Bellevue which is ! The mushroom fried rice cures my trauma as always. This time i tried the steamed chicken soup, szechuan style XLB, and dessert taro XLB. The chicken soup broth was so refreshing and perfectly seasoned, the szechuan XLBs were quite spicy, unfortunately me being the odd asian who can't handle spicy very well it was a bit too spicy for me (i.e i get 1 star or 2 star when feeling adventurous at thai restaurants) and the taro XLB were very creamy and fluffy inside unlike ones at DTF which i surprisingly really enjoyed. In terms of ambiance, its a bit more open space unlike Bellevue location so you're less likely to have intimate/quiet seating in comparison however, the staff are extremely friendly, space is super tidy, and theres plenty of parking near by which makes this location just as good~~! i recommend making a reservation via google just so you dont risk having to wait for a table. read more

I also loved the open concept where they have the door retracted to let fresh air in. It is a really nice and well decorated place. - Supreme spicy wontons: 5/5. If I could, I'd buy their chilli oil to take home and eat it with everything I have. It was super fragrant but not too painfully spicy. The wontons were perfectly seasoned and cooked. - Tan Tan noodles: 4/5. I love the strong peanut flavor and the garlic. - Xiao Long Biao: 5/5. We got both the truffle chicken and the original pork one. I highly recommend the pork one. The dough here is thin which makes it so much better. All the XLB I have eaten on the East Coast are usually very thick so I loved them here. - Pork chop fried rice: 3.5/5.
