Came here for a belated birthday celebration with my husband and in-laws, and we had a great time! The concept is pretty cool, if you want to do Korean barbecue and grill your food yourself, you sit outside, and if you prefer Korean dishes that are already prepared and served by the plate, you're seated inside. The Korean barbecue section isn't all-you-can-eat, but they portion it perfectly for small (1-2 people) or large (3-4 people) parties. We ordered the large set, and although we were skeptical at first, the amount of food and sides turned out to be just right! The corn cheese and beef were definite favorites. They also have a separate menu for plant-based guests, which was a huge plus. The portions are generous, and they even offer a vegan grill set with various plant-based meats and sides. The only downside is that the vegan grill option requires a minimum of two people, so my husband couldn't order it on his own. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal and left full and happy. Ambiance - The place is cozy! Not super big but not incredibly small. I would say it's medium size, leaning towards small. It's clean and neat. There's seating outside and inside. We chose inside! (Mainly because I didn't want my mom seeing the crematorium since she's superstitious). Food - DELICIOUS!! I'm so happy I made the drive up with my mom. I've been wanting ACTUAL vegan Korean style dishes. They delivered. My only complaint with the rice cakes and Beyond tenders was that they used too much sauce BUT the upside is we dipped other foods in the sweet, spicy (not that spicy), and slightly tangy sauce. The fries were pretty bomb though! Hot and fresh :) Dosiraks - Both vegan and non-vegan versions had the same stuff EXCEPT the vegan excluded the egg. The banchan were pretty good! Not overly salty or sour. The lotus root slices were actually my fave side!! The next time I come back, I may just ask for more of that instead of the cucumber banchan. The dumplings were pretty tasty. Nice and hot and crispy. The filling was okay, nothing to write home about but good as a side. For me, the vegan bulgogi flavor was pretty good. However, the texture of the "meat" itself felt a little too spongy? Maybe it was the brand they used or how they prepared it. However, I could look past it. My mom appreciated that the galbi here wasn't overly sweet. It had the sweetness you'd expect but it felt balanced enough with the savory side. The rice felt "dense" but not in a bad way. I'm not exactly sure how to describe it but it had a "chew" to it. Wasn't fluffy nor soggy but we didn't mind it at all. I believe both my mom and I liked how the rice was! Drinks - I had the honey yuzu tea! It was okay. I wouldn't call it again. I liked the yuzu bits but it didn't have enough sweetness or yuzu/citrus flavor to it for me. Joined the Yelp Waitlist for a party of 4 on a Saturday night and was seated inside within 20 minutes! We found parking further down the street and took a short walk. There were so many good options and we had a hard time picking what to eat, but we each ended up getting something and then sharing the Bulgogi Fries. Saturday night so I used YELP to get in line before leaving my place to walk over! Seated immediately at 6:20 upon arrival. 95% of tables full and a small line already forming! Went with a gal pal who hasn't had much Korean food so after a quick lesson in the difference between kim chee (one of many banchans) and banchan we ordered just two dishes - the problem of going to such a place with only 2 people is you can order only so much. The thinly sliced, no fat, spicy pork was delicious. It might seem a bit pricey but when you get no fatty pieces and stop short of licking the plate, you know it's worth it. We also did the Japchae which was the first dish I loved in my Korean food love life of 40 years. Sura did a great job as it had the just the right amount of thinly sliced carrots and onions and was dotted with a few mushrooms. This place has just gotten better and better! Loren really took care of us. Took our orders and the banchan came out lightning fast. I got the Bulgogi Bibimbap in the hot rock bowl. It was awesome. Perfectly cooked rice, high quality Bulgogi steak, crisp greens, and topped with a fried egg. We also got the seafood pancake appetizer. That thing was packed with squid for the price. A meal in itself. Our table also enjoyed the tofu soup at a medium spice level and it was plenty hot. I'd like to dedicate this review to my late brother who would've been 32 today and was the first in my family to go vegan. This one is for you... Never did I think I'd ever fully enjoy a Korean BBQ restaurant again now that I've gone plant-based. Sura proved me wrong and is the quintessential vegan-friendly KBBQ that you can find here in Southern California, and I am a fan. My friends and I made an evening reservation on Yelp and I'm so glad we did. Although our party was a bit late from LA traffic, we were able to be seated with half our party to get the night started. First off - all the banchan here is vegan by nature. Love that I could enjoy classics like kimchi, potato salad, and pickled daikon without asking whether there were any animal products used. You must order an entree to receive banchan, but order we did. We went through a lot of main dishes together as a group. Some of the highlights include their Fried Mushrooms (AMAZING appetizer and perfect for a huge party), Japchae, Tteok Bokki on a stick, and their Mock Meat KBBQ Kalbi. Everything was priced well, portions were generous, and everything tasted delicious. Many of my non-vegan friends agreed that no quality nor taste was lost just because it's plant-based. We came here during the flash flooding. There was parking in the back in their lot. We walked in and it was still packed. We only waited for like 5 mins. It was cold in there because they only have 1 setting for the AC. They also have a tiny bar area. We got the corn cheese, Spicy Brisket Soup (Yukgaejang), melona drink which they made it with soy milk, and Korean fried chicken. The spicy brisket soup is perfect for rainy or cold day. It was mild spicy and so much food worth the bang for your buck. The fries were amazing with the Korean fried chicken as I think they put old bay seasoning but they need to give more ketchup packets. I hadn't had Korean BBQ in years, so this place was such a great rediscovery. I originally found it while looking for something different since my partner eats meat and I don't, and we usually default to ramen. This spot ended up being perfect -- it's conveniently located close to both of us, which was already a win. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, and the outdoor area has heaters, which makes it comfortable even on cooler nights. Inside, the space is beautiful, very urban, elegant, and stylish without feeling stuffy. Parking is available but limited, especially on busy nights, so that's something to keep in mind. Once you're inside, the experience really shines. The staff is super attentive, friendly, and the customer service has been great every time. The menu is impressive with tons of food and drink options. What really stood out to me is their vegan selection, not just a couple of items, but a full page dedicated to vegan options, and they actually taste amazing. Arrived at 6pm on a Thursday, just before the dinner crowd arrived. We parked to the rear of Sura, but noticed that these spots are only available when posted. A large outdoor patio is available out front and we noticed a bar to the left as we entered. We were seated immediately and our server arrived to the table with water and asked us to scan the QR code for the menu. He mentioned that most dishes are large and sharable. We ordered the Teriyaki Chicken which comes with unlimited Banchan and he reccomended that we add the chicken wings that come with fries and salad. We chose to mix the wings, picking two different flavors. The banchan arrived right away. We received a variety of 6 and we enjoyed them overall. The korean fried chicken wing plate was a pretty tasty sharable dish. The crispy fries are topped with Old Bay Seasoning and the cabbage slaw topped with pickled cabbage was a great side to break up the dish. Also added on the plate were pickled radishes that were delicious as well. The chicken wings were crispy and tasty, but I preferred the Soy Garlic. The Teriyaki Chicken arrived and after the first bite, we both disliked it. Bland overall, lacking in any kind of BBQ flavor, we didn't want more than the one bite. After sharing our dislike with the waiter, we requested the Angus Galbi Short Ribs. The manager came by the table and was happy to accommodate by removing the chicken and adding the Galbi. We appreciated him taking the time to listen to our issues with the dish. The Galbi was a way better choice. The meaty ribs were delicious. Looks like this spot has happy hour on certain days of the week. I reccomend reservations if dining during peak hours. We went to their Happy Hour on a Thursday and I tried to order all the vegan options haha. It's so rare to find great happy hour deals that include a great variety of plant based options. I ordered the Crispy Rice Cake Skewers, Shiitake Shroom Fries, Scallion Pancake and the Crispy Dumplings. My coworkers and I come here when we crave Korean food during work. There is not many Korean restaurants or Korean food in general in downtown Long Beach, so this is the closest you have to go around that area to get your Korean fix. The first time I came here I was skeptical but then I kept coming back so it must be good! And they are! It has a decent amount of miso balanced with the mysterious chilli spice they've used. It is almost like Singapore's sambal blachan. And if any Malaysian , Singaporean or Indonesian is craving sambal blachan or chili sambal for Nasi Lemak, and live in Long Beach, this is it! Kudos to the management. Our sons said let's come back! This place always comes to mind when we are in the mood for quick and tasty soup. It had been awhile since we last ordered from this place (more than 6 months). So it came to much our surprise that when we ordered our usual dumpling tofu soup and seafood tofu soup, the portions were noticeably much smaller. Easily the soup container is 1/3 less soup (used to be taller) as we have the old containers from prior orders. I'm also pretty sure that the kimchi/rice tray is smaller as well. We would much rather know that we are paying more for the same amount/expected amount of food than to be surprised by this very obvious SHRINKFLATION. Came here for the first time tonight after a convention in the area and it was so good! The amount of food that was given for the price was awesome. Loved the corn cheese side and the sauces for the meat. The servers were really friendly! We were seated on the outside patio and after finishing our meal there was a dude right outside acting aggressively out of nowhere and then threatening violence. David, who I believe is the manager here, was incredibly kind and caring in making sure me and the rest of my party got inside the restaurant safely while he made a call and surveilled the area for the dude.
