Stopped in for a bite. Restaurant was fairly busy. We were seated at a booth & I was able to park my stroller close to the takeout area. Takeout orders were rolling in so I know this must be a popular spot. Our waitress brought waters & took our order. I ordered the Rock in roll sushi, A Small fried rice & Vegetable spring rolls. The rolls come with soup or salad, so I selected the miso soup to accompany my dish. The soup and vegetable spring rolls came out first. Hot & fresh, very delicious. The rock in rolls shortly followed. Yum yum sauce was brought to our table in a large container. The rolls were delicious. Filled with shrimp tempura, crab & cucumber w/ Mayo. A quite decent Japanese restaurant near in New Tampa area. We got love boat: the sushi/sashimi and rolls set for two, and scallop habachi. The love boat is very appetizing with the delicate in a wooden boat, which made it look like a loooot of food too. Fish is fresh with acceptable quality tho not as good as lots of other similar sushi restaurants I've been to in other cities where Asian population is larger and so is the demand for Asian food. Quite good sushi and service here at Sushi Cafe. Quite busy for a weeknight, but busy generally means that it's going to be solid. Rather than wait for a table, I made my way through the crowd and took a spot at the sushi bar. I was the only person who seemed to have this idea. I had a squid salad to start and it was a solid portion on a base of julienned cucumber. Tasty. Then I ordered the "Rocky Mountain Roll" (which is a rainbow roll topped with shredded crab) and a Hawaii Roll. Both were very good and more than full size. Great location, great prices, friendly staff, delicious sushi! Finally a place to eat delicious sushi that does not cost over $10. Most sushi range from $5 to $9. And they are really good! Miso soup $1.95 - really good. Gyoza $4.95 (with veggies and meat, really good). We also tried Tampa Bay Roll with tempura red snapper (cooked), cream cheese, avocado and eel sauce - delicious! First time at Sushi Cafe tonight and I was impressed. The servers were friendly and attentive, even as the crowd in there picked up. I explained it was my first time, so the server took her time answering my questions. I landed on the Dynamite roll, Volcano Roll, a piece of Scallop Ngiri and a Snoke Salmon Ngiri. I also started with a ginger salad and clear soup. The Dynamite roll was crunchy from the asparagus and the salmon was yummy. It's deep fried, so crunchy all around, with a dollop of sriracha and mayo. Not too much sriracha though, so not very spicy at all. I wasn't as impressed with the Volcano. It's a Cali roll with baked cream cheese and scallops on top. The cream cheese had broken down and I found it kind of oily. Probably wouldn't order that again. My Ngiri pieces were plump and fresh! The ginger salad was basic, and the clear soup was good, albeit a little bland. At the table across from me they had a Crystal roll and a Crunch. They looked fab! Definitely on the next trip! I read the reviews and took a shot on lunch today. Saba nigiri and shrimp hibachi. It was disgusting at best. Everything looked and/or smelled like it had seen better days. They also did not include the soup and salad that are supposed to come with their lunch special. That's okay though because I didn't even eat the sushi because the "hibachi" grossed me out so much. I gave it a 2 out of 5 because I'm willing to think (for 3 seconds) that I ordered on a bad day. HOWEVER, there is nothing that will make me order from here again. Hands down, gross! read more

What a great find after a half day of medical appointments. We originally were headed to an all you can eat Sushi spot to fill the gargantuan eating habits of my teen, but thankfully there was a 30 minute wait and......teens don't wait. On to Sushi Cafe. First thing I noticed was the great and appreciative service. Multiple people came by to assure that we had placed our drink orders and did not have any menu questions. When we did place our order, we opted to pick multiple things and share. We started with the Hibachi Chicken which came out piping hot and full of flavor, with both fried rice and lo mein noodles. Next we moved onto the Sweet Potato Roll which was a cross between a philly roll and sweet potato casserole, but it really worked well and was my clear favorite. Next, my predictable teen ordered the Philadelphia Roll, which was very well done. Then he added a Rock n Roll which was fantastic, although I am not sure what is in it. Sushi Cafe is like the Sam's Club of Tampa Sushi. I say this because the prices are a bit higher than some of the other places around but they make up for that with larger portion sizes. These are the biggest sushi rolls I've ever seen. We visited the cafe on a Friday night. The place was packed. We waited for only a few minutes before the servers found a spot for us. We poured over the menu and weren't completely in love with the vegetarian/vegan options. A large number of their rolls had cream cheese in them. I don't know if Sushi Cafe has stock in a cream cheese company or not but based on the menu it certainly seemed like it. As far as I could tell, Sushi Cafe didn't even offer our go to roll, Sweet Potato Tempura. They did offer a sweet potato roll with Salmon on top, so I asked for one of those sans the salmon. Unfortunately removing the fish didn't bring the price down any so it was the most expensive sweet potato roll I've had. We also ordered an avocado roll and some miso soup. Aside from the size, seriously this sweet potato roll was like the Big Mac of sushi rolls, what stuck out to me about the Sushi Cafe's version of the Sweet Potato Tempura Roll is that they tempuraed the whole thing. Typically places just batter and fry the sweet potato. While this was cool and all, I felt like it masked the sweet potato flavor. This meant the complimentary sweet, of the sweet potato, and salty, of the soy sauce, flavors that I love were dulled considerably. The avocado roll was fine, nothing really stood out about it (aside from the size). The waiter that we had on our visit was awesome. He chatted us up, even though the place was packed, and answered all the questions we had about the menu. He acted extremely interested in our substitutions and the reasons behind them. He also made sure to check in after the sushi arrived to make sure that everything was right. My overall impression of Sushi Cafe is that it is sushi for the American diet. Its a place that sacrifices taste in order to increase portion sizes. Eli N.'s review suggested it was a gateway sushi restaurant, a good place for people who are just learning to like sushi. Upon ordering take out we had ordered a side order of noodles and a small steak plate and we found a shrimp shell in our noodle plate! Miso was as expected (hard to screw that up unless they salt it too much). The rainbow roll was also as expected. Didn't blow me out of the water either. Through my Tampa Bay Sushi Tour 2019 this may have been my favorite thus far. Was recommended this place by a friend and saw decent reviews but it really was great. A nice quiet atmosphere with very kind and generous staff. We were welcomed and sat immediately and our drinks were out before I could even open the menu. Ordered an appetizer of Krab Rangoon, a soup, salad, and two sushi rolls (Sakura & Osaka). All of it was not only delicious and filling but easily the best priced out of all my sushi adventures. Less than $30 for all of that and the Sakura Roll may have been my favorite to date. Would highly recommend this cute and quiet sushi stop for any sushi lovers in Tampa. I used to come here a lot a few years ago for lunch to enjoy their hibachi. I came this past weekend with my husband for date night. It was very nice and clean, did not take long to get seated even though we did not have reservations. It's a fairly small restaurant with a cozy feel to it. The servers and wait staff were very friendly and helped recommend sushi dishes for us. Our meals came with soup and my husband ordered a salad because he loves their ginger dressing. Both were really good! We then had their spring rolls which were really great! Fresh, hot and definitely cooked to order. Next came our sushi, my husband is a vegetarian and he was able to ask them to make some vegetarian rolls for him using ingredients off of the menu.
