sushi damo was a restaurant i've always walked past without a thought until today -- was thinking of a quick lunch and craving ramen, and sushi damo came to mind. we came at 2pm on a weekday and it was fairly empty (one other group was already there, and two other tables came after us). we were seated quickly and service was super kind, welcoming, and prompt. my friend ordered a tonkotsu ramen and i chose the spicy miso ramen. the broth of the tonkotsu was pleasantly umami, and the miso had a good kick with the spice. noodles were tender, and the chashu was nicely grilled to imbue a bit of a smoky flavor. all in all, solid ramen that does the job of warming you up on a cold day. read more

Came to Sushi Domo after a show in the area and will have to say that it lived up to it's average rating. The service was quick and attentive and hospitable. The decor was very chic. The sushi was very pricey, which given that it's located in midtown right by Central Park is standard and kind of to my expected. The sushi itself was good but for the price that we paid we could have had much better sushi for cheaper at a less ritzy location if I'm being honest. read more

This is the sushi deluxe 'dinner'. It is $40 and comes with 8 pieces of nigiri, a Tokyo roll and miso soup.Four types of nigiri, each one xeroxed, not huge pieces you get yellowtail, salmon, tuna and eel. And then this Tokyo roll, ostensibly is a salmon avocado roll with Tobiko sprinkled,messily over it. I'm not a fan of those as they just wind up getting stuck in your teeth. And the rice was just a little too gummy. Also you can see the quality of the salmon and tuna doesn't have a nice sheen to it and has more of that mealy quality to it. The beau and I stopped in here for their happy hour which is from 4-7. They have a very generous food offering and the cocktails were good and strong. We chose several items from their "tapas" section and were quite pleased with our selections. The food came out fast and hot. The flavors were great and the heat on the chicken was perfect for me. The staff is friendly and gracious. My only negative is the bar isn't deep enough so your knees are in awkward positions. Beware but enjoy! We will be back. read more

The regular rolls like Salmon Avocado are small, the special rolls like the Golden Roll are bigger, and the Chirashi is remarkably huge. We decided that we wanted something different for Thanksgiving dinner and decided on sushi, after calling around sushi damo picked up and we made our way there for dinner. The staff was very friendly! We never had an empty glass of water or plates on the table. I thought the inside was great, and they had a wall of trees, also great music! I decided to have a French 75 to drink that was light and refreshing. To eat we shared pork guizoa that was savory! For sushi I had a rainbow roll, the Hell's Kitchen roll, and salom roe. Our visit started off a bit shaky as my family and I were interested in trying Sushi Damo during happy hour. Unfortunately, happy hour is restricted to the bar and with two little ones, it isn't necessarily appropriate ( I mean I don't care, but most places do)...anyways, upon learning of our intent, the hostess and manager were extremely quick to move us towards the bar and allow us to partake in happy hour...and boy did we ever! With a manager that couldn't be nicer, more attentive and wonderful with our girls, to the food being outrageously amazing (especially the shishito peppers...I mean, absolutely the best I have ever had, and I've had a lot), I cannot recommend Sushi Damo more! The seating was comfortable with wonderful plating and ambiance and every dish that came out was on point! 100% our new favorite Japanese spot in NYC! Thank you for such a wonderful time. The Cori Cori is underrated as an appetizer, garlicky, sliced mushrooms over steamed broccoli. Fish offerings are fresh. My husband and I have lived in the neighborhood for over 30 years, and somehow had never been to Sushi Damo until yesterday. To be perfectly honest, it was a spontaneous, last minute decision based on the fact that we were already on the block for an appointment, and couldn't get a table at Blue Ribbon. But I'm very glad that we made that decision, because it couldn't have been a nicer meal. The tuna tartare, served atop a bed of avocado and sprinkled liberally with fish roe, was perfectly hand-cut, easily the most delicious tartare we've had in a long while. My husband had the shrimp burger, which he declared delicious (and juicy, which isn't always the case). I had to sneak a spice-dusted French fry from his plate, and it was terrific! Who knew you could go to a sushi restaurant for great French fries?! I had the sashimi lunch platter, and it was expertly prepared, fresh and clean tasting, and just a delight. Service was very sweet, and I think that for the amount of food that we had, and its high quality, it's also great value for money. We look forward to returning soon. read more

We stumbled upon this spot while visiting the city and we loved it! Great, lively atmosphere and our waiter was really funny & friendly. We split a bunch of apps and then got two rolls, and it was the perfect light dinner for my family of three. My favorite thing by far was the spicy yellowtail sashimi - so fresh & the fish eggs of top added texture to each bite. We had the beef gyoza and the pork gyoza, and all preferred the pork. Shishito peppers were good if you don't like them fried like me. The rolls were great basics. Only thing we didn't care for was the soft shell crab, but i think that was more of a palate preference than it not being well-made/good quality. I wanted to like this place so much because the sushi was good and fresh BUT there was a hair in my shumai and it ruined my appetite and the entire experience. The server acted like it was normal and although he asked if I wanted a replacement (I said no) he removed it from the bill and that was that. No apology, nothing.
