This place makes miso happy!! Affordable & consistent food! I come here almost every week because I live less than 5 minutes away. I always get the Happy Dinner Box (pick 3 items, comes with miso soup and salad) for $8.99. Go to other sushi places and you'll see how cheap Sushi House is. My go-to rolls are the House Special roll, Caterpillar roll, & Spider roll! The only reason why I didn't give them 5 stars was because the wait can get really long, they don't answer the phone when they get busy, and they sometimes don't estimate properly regarding the wait time for picking up food. I suggest to come to Sushi House on any day except for Friday and Saturday. Fridays and Saturdays are usually when there's a rush. Their hours are also weird so be sure to check it's open before you go. But overall, cheap & yummy food. This place always makes my sushi-loving-tummy soy happy! read more

Never had a bad experience here. I have been a regular here for a good 10 years and the restaurant seems to have changed ownership during the years but the customer service and food here is always 5 star. Very reasonably priced, good portions, and attentive staff. The sashimi always tastes fresh and is well sliced. read more

After taking a stroll on San Mateo ave my wife and I where searching for a bite to eat. We then notice this place. Walked in with plenty room to sit. Had a waitress bring out menu with miso soup right away along with water. Miso soup wasn't bad little on the colder side tho. I ordered the bento box D. Came with teriyaki beef & chicken and 4 Calofornia rolls. This was actually really good. I also ordered a kamikaze roll. Spicy tuna and asparagus. Which was great. Only thing I would say is the feel of the restaurant was a little depressing and the bathroom were dirty. read more

Regardless of those past feedbacks, I came to try this out. Love their sushi especially the Sun Rolls, smoked salami with tiny slice of lemon. OMG, never thought of it. I could eat it al of them. A small hole in the wall place with some good food at excellent prices! My go-to is the bento box which includes rice, salad, soup, and your choice of 3 entrees. I got the salmon teriyaki, tempura, and California rolls. This meal is definitely very filling and all for $11.25 with many options to choose from. The waitress did forget our soup and we had to remind her. I get it, it gets pretty busy and hectic when there are only about 2 servers catering to a huge room of hungry patrons! read more

Do not order takeout from this restaurant. My order was 15 minutes late, multiple orders were messed up, salmon not having sauce on it, missing rolls, and the staff not fully putting the lids on soup which ended up spilling on the drive home. Food quality is better than average but nothing great, this is the only reason why I didn't give it a 1 star. Overall I am very disappointed by this restaurant and would not recommend to friends. read more

Low Quality and Mini size, less for your buck. Compare to other sushi, the sushi Roll are only 6 pieces charged you $13. Not too fresh /dry and with lot of MSG sauce bundle in your box. No chopstick or spoon or fork. NOT RECOMMENDED, IN MY BLACK LIST. read more

Worst experience I have ever had! Imagine I get there at 1.to.meet a dear friend I haven't seen in years. We chat and order and chat and order. During our meal.she brings the check. We push it aside to keep eating..she comes right back demands payment and says they are closed! Wth? She just brought us a dragon roll! We say we are still.wating..she says you have to leave we are closed at 230! I look at my phone and it's 233. Now even Department stores give warnings the store is closing and to get ready to check.out. you would think a eating establishment would have same courtesy.. She stood there for over 5 minutes arguing with my friend. It qas so embarrassing for us..ans ruined our reunion.. And the FOOD sucked anyway! Smallest rolls ever..mostly rice. Sashimi qas sketchy af..and trust me, seeing the kitchen and bathroom I would have never stayed if it weren't for this special.plans with an old friend! We used to go here all the time 10 years ago..it qas very nice before. Ill.never go again...and save yourself the time and money and drama. Sometime you do get what you pay for. And when you pay for an $8 bento box, well you get a fake california roll, awful salad, small portions of beef, and well, not that great service. My buddy likes it here because it's cheap, like him. I can't imagine coming here again unless I'm dragged, kicking and screaming.... read more

The food is honestly a hit or miss. Sometimes it could be good, but recently it seems rushed and not the best. The employees are rude, specifically the girl that usually is the server. Online it says they close at 9:30, but we get here at 8 and they say it's closed and we cannot order to go. read more

This is nice restaurant. I came 20 mins before they closed after lunch time. They were very nice and immediately sat me down and was very attentive. When you come for lunch they give you a complimentary miso soup and it was good. I ordered a San Bruno roll and a dragon roll. The San Bruno roll was delicious and was very fresh and I think it's their best role. The dragon roll was okay. There was tempura shrimp in there but was cold and clearly was not freshly fried, probably because I came right when they were closing. The price for each roll was approx $10. I probably re-visit their restaurant. read more

If you are looking for a no frills place without the normal interminable wait for Japanese food while on the Peninsula or of you are by the SFO Airport then this is the place for you! In fact, this is a must stop for us whenever we get dropped off or pick people up at the nearby airport for a quick but hearty meal. We always get the Happy Box meal with gives you three choices ranging from Teriyaki (Beef, Chicken or Salmon), Katsu (Chicken or Pork), Tempura or a Sashimi sampler that comes with miso soup and a side of rice and salad. All for the low cost of $9.95 for dinner (used to be $8.95 but I digress) and at lunch it's only $6.50! How can you lose? You can't, and it's the best option along the very busy San Mateo Avenue, an up coming outlet filled with mom and pop restaurants, stores, work out studios, and cafes with plenty of 2 hour parking options. I love that this family owned place is never slammed with people, (Which is not a bad thing) and there always seems to be a seat available. The food, it not only affordable but it's really really tasty. Is it the best Japanese food you will ever taste? Is it the freshest cuts of raw fish? Have come twice when visiting my friend and her family. This is their go to place for sushi. It's not fancy but the service is friendly and the sushi decent. The bento box meals are good value and the overall price is affordable. We had a little of the ahi tuna, some salmon, California rolls, sashimi, miso soup. The tempura in the bento box was yummy - crispy and tasty. I was too busy eating to remember to take down the names of the rolls we had. But from the different times I've visited everything's delicious. read more

I haven't been here In awhile, but I ordered for pickup during the stormiest days in the bay beginning of January, it was literally pouring outside. I usually park in the back and use the back door to enter. When I picked up the food the lady was so rude. She pointed at my food and yelled with a mean look on her face saying go out that way. As I stated I parked in the back she said no you go out that way..she had me walk around taking the alley and their was a big puddle blocking the pathway so I couldn't take the alley..Had me walk all the way around the block just to get to my car...I was soaked and my $60 worth of food was soaked and cold..never again read more

Place was quite busy upon arrival, there was one table on reserved, we were told there is an open table in 12-15 mins, but if we want, we can have the bar. So since we're hungry, we took the bar, 2 mins later a white couple strolls in. Guess what? They got seated at the reserve table, but the table wasn't reserved for them. ( you may question how I know?, well it's cuz I'm Chinese, and I understood them. :) Let's work on the food review after I try: food= eh and blah, normal sushi place. I would not recommend ordering to go here. Their business is not setup to help multiple customers. Tried calling to order - line is busy or you get the fax machine sound. Went online to their website and was redirected to beyond menu to order. Spent 10 mins ordering for 5 people. Got confirmation from website. Drove there in 30 mins thinking we'd get a confirmation email or text. Nothing. Park out front and there's over 10 people scattered - no social distancing either. No order of management. Disarray. Customers don't know where to line up or what to do. Everyone is visibly frustrated. I finally get the employees attn and he comes to the door. I tell him I ordered thru beyond menu and he says "sorry were not taking orders from that site!" I have a confirmation code and everything. I show it to him. He asks for my phone number. I give it to him and he walks away. Comes back 8 minutes later (yep, I counted) and says we have not started your order. That really blew my mind. Now mind you, I ordered about 30 minutes prior and waited outside for another 25 minutes to learn my order was never even started! I have compassion for small business but not even a sorry from the employee. He does this crossing hand thing of death to me when he sees me outside waiting "we have not started your order!" I didn't yell, scream of throw a fit of rage. I left, drove to ono Hawaiian to feed me plus 4. Then I wrote this review in a fit of rage. read more

Craving for sushi at around 8pm and stumbled upon this area. Service was nice and quick. Sat down and was served hot rice tea and a bowl of miso soup. The miso was decent and not over salty. Ordered the salmon skin roll, dragon roll, and a crunchy california roll. Total came to about $20. The 3 sushi rolls took about 10 minutes to prepare. Dragon roll is always a good choice. They prepared it well, though the tempura could have been a bit more crunchier. The Crunchy Cali roll, not really to my liking. The batter they used is the flaky kind. I would have prefered the batter they used for the tempura. But that's just my preference talking. And lastly, the salmon skin roll. This was just ok.. It's probably something I will not order next time. I'm still trying to find a good place that serves a good salmon skin. All in all, this place is decent for sushi. Ok, so I've had this bookmarked for months, possibly years, and I now realize I've been here before. It was just entirely forgettable. Two servers for three tables, but still slow. I ordered assorted sashimi. For $14, I got 3 pieces each of hamachi, salmon, tilapia and escolar. Well I good price for all that fish, but... Pieces were cut very thick. The salmon was fresh and tasty. Tilapia is not a good sushi/sashimi candidate, because it has virtually no flavor. That's why folks who normally don't like fish will eat it. ESCOLAR!!! Well, I think we all know about it's nasty consequences. The hamachi. Didn't taste entirely fresh. Maybe this was because the skin and the bloodline weren't trimmed off. When I was finally able to get the check,the server looked at my plate with the escolar still untouched and remnants of the half eaten hamachi, she didn't seem concerned, asked if I was finished. Been here twice already and I will gladly come here again. Our old go to place for bentos used to be Akagi, but not anymore. We'll definitely come here over Akagi anyday! The food is good. Their sushi is good. And everything is very reasonably priced. The saba shioyaki, or grilled mackeral, is solid for the bento box. And their tempura is good and doesn't leave that oily heavy yucky feeling with you. I can't even remember what rolls we've had there anymore but we've tried quite a few and save for 1 of them, we were definitely satisfied. Parking is easy peasy on San Mateo Ave, or there's always parking lots in the back. read more

TLDR: Pros: Cheap! Easy parking in the back parking lot. Cons: Less than average tasting food You get what you pay for! Cheap food = not good quality. Came here on a Sunday because most of the sushi places nearby were closed and thought I'd give this one a try. I enjoyed the cute Japanese looking decor (although it's a typical Chinese-run sushi place.) It wasn't packed, and we were able to be seated immediately. It's a casual vibe. For two, we decided to order two bento boxes, #11 nigiri combo, and #12 sashimi combo. Yes we ordered a lot but managed to finish most of it... We ordered bento combos C and D. Grilled saba, tonkatsu, and tempura for one box and chicken teriyaki, beef teriyaki, and 4piece california roll for the other. The bento boxes were $8 each, so we thought may as well sample everything. Free miso soup served before we even placed our order! That was nice. I was pretty happy until the food came. The bento items were extremely dry. Especially the saba, chicken, and beef. I did not like the look or taste of the california roll, which did not taste fresh. The beef was dry...not enough teriyaki sauce. Everything tasted overcooked. I would not re-order the bento boxes, despite how cheap they were. The nigiri and sashimi were better. I did enjoy the big slices of sashimi. Portions here are good. read more

I have yet to find a good sushi place in San Bruno, so my expectations weren't very high. To my surprise, the sushi was decent. Food and prices are way better than Hiro down the street. Bento boxes are cheap for dinner ($8.99) and you get to pick 3 items. Food came out hot, which is a plus. The chicken teriyaki was good, beef teriyaki was very tough and the sashimi was ok. For the price, food is decent and I will come back again if I'm in the area. read more

I'm surprised I haven't reviewed this place! I've been going here for years and years (since I was in middle school and that brief time my family and I had an obsession with this place). I love the chicken teriyaki and the pink dragon roll. Always so yummy. The dishes stay pretty consistent and the service is pretty quick. Sushi House is a great spot for a nicely balanced and filling bento box or a deliciously grilled hamachi kama! I've been coming to Sushi House for many years now and have gotten it to-go many times. I typically come here for dinner hours and the one thing I always get every single time is their bento box meal. It allows for a choice of 3 items and comes at a very affordable price of ~$11. Alongside the 3 items comes a house salad, miso soup, and a scoop of rice. With the bento, I always get their sashimi for sure which is fresh and comes on a small plate with four varieties of fish. Other than that, I find their squid shioyaki, saba shioyaki, and tempura to be good choices. Their chicken and beef teriyaki are not bad as well. Another item I remember trying here and enjoying quite a bit is their hamachi kama which is the collar area of a grilled yellowtail fish. I absolutely love love love hamachi kama everywhere I've tried it and I definitely love the way they prepare it here as well. It is grilled nicely and ends up teeming with a lot of natural fish oils which goes amazingly well with the bowl of rice they provide. They provide a decently sized piece with a good amount of both bone and meat which is nice. They also serve salmon kama which can't go wrong either. read more

One of my all time favorite sushi places. Great value for great food. You can't beat the happy dinner box for $10.95 that gives you your choice of any three items served with soup and salad. Items include sashimi, California roll, chicken teriyaki, beef teriyaki, salmon teriyaki or shioyaki, squid teriyaki or shioyaki, Saba teriyaki or shioyaki, chicken katsu, ton katsu, tempura, or beef short ribs. Complement any happy dinner box with a huge variety of rolls. You can't go wrong with the spider roll, but they all taste good. Enjoy a cold negori sake as an adult beverage to round things out. If you happen to come here for lunch instead of dinner, the happy lunch box is even cheaper, with the same options. read more

3.5 STARS They definitely hired a new chef! Used to be a less than average sushi restaurant with one star quality sushi that you would literally only eat here for their affordable bento boxes. But now, the sashimi quality has gotten better and is actually fresh and edible and the rolls are presentable and not falling apart. Although prices has increased a bit, it's still very affordable. Their bento boxes are the most worth it. For $8, you can get a lunch bento with 3 items, salad, soup. Dinner bento is ~$10. The saba is one of my favorite items. - The hotate nigiri (scallop) and the sake (salmon) nigiri are both pretty fresh and good - Beef sukiyaki ($9.95) is one of my favorites also but it's a bit on the sweeter side so ask for a side of rice. - Oyako Don ($7.95) was greatly portioned with an equal balance of chicken, onions, and egg. Service still needs some improvements tho. The waitresses (one in particular with a pony tail) was very forgetful and inattentive. After telling us to sit at a two seater table, she didn't bring us menus for a while until we told her and she even asked us how many... when we're seated at a 2 seater table.... The other waitress with shoulder length hair and glasses had better service. If you want to satisfy your sushi cravings without breaking your wallet, this is the place to go. read more

With a 20% tip included, the total for the two of us came to $163.50, which honestly falls within the average range of what we usually spend for a sushi dinner like this. Normally we might pay around $120-$130 depending on the place, sometimes a little more if we add an extra item or two. The portion sizes were pretty standard. Not unusually large, but not small either -- similar to what we've experienced at many other sushi restaurants. Where this place really stood out was the depth of flavor. The quality and balance of the ingredients were excellent. At one point I actually caught myself closing my eyes just to focus on the taste, which is something I almost never do. The waitress at sushi house named HUI was awful...grabbing me and blocking me from leaving after she wanted me to charge for her tip on my credit card and apparently thought she wasn't going to get a tip. She went on to tell me that this isn't fast food and I have to tip. Before she even started to get worried about her tip, my daughter had been going through my wallet to get cash out to tip her. My husband told me that cash is always best for waiters. Still during this time the waitress Hui insisted to me that I needed to give her a tip and she would put it on my card at 25%. I took my personal information that she wrote down stating she was going to charge my card 25%. If she doesn't receive a tip she charges people's credit cards 25% after they leave she writes down their information. I told her forcing tips and charging cards is illegal. She blocked me from leaving the restaurant and was pulling on my shirt and grabbing me in front of my two children and patrons. Hui should never be working with customers. She is aggressive, rude and presumptuous. She should be fired immediately. I called the police and made a report. The police told me to file a complaint with the better business bureau. They also told that she should expect tips. She would have gotten the five dollar bill which my daughter had in her hand but she became so rude I couldn't see tipping her at all. Never at anytime was I aggressive. I have cancer to fight I don't have space for arguments or confrontations with ignorance. read more

I have been coming here for about 6 almost 7 years and will not go anywhere else, it's a small place has a sushi bar in back corner does get packed fast. So come early. The price is unbeatable, where can you go and get 3 rolls, soup, tea, salad for just under 30 bucks. The rolls/food is amazing I always order the fire cracker balls veggie dragon roll and a super dynamite- now I have had this roll at other places but this is the best I have come across a must! Service, old managment was real good then they changed assuming but after a good three years about they r back they get to know u by order and well starting to know there regulars but pay extra attention to ne customers wen slow....... Ok, I am a fan of their sushi! Their prices are very reasonable and they fill you up, not just on rice like some other sushi restaurants, they actually give you an abundance of SUSHI! The Super Dynamite Roll is sooooo yummy. Parking is easy since they offer street parking in front and there is a parking lot in the rear. I am taking off a star because the last time we ordered beef teriyaki for my 3 year old, we asked for sauce on the side (we have ordered it that way a few times here before) they brought it smothered in sauce AND we ordered her 2 Unagi rolls which they forgot and we had to remind them about, I do think their service could be improved based on that, therefore I cannot give them all 5 stars! I don't know about the other reviews but I love this place. I tried and been to many, I mean many sushi places before and its not as good as this. I come here like at least once a month to try their $9 for 3 item bento happy box. I always order for their sushimi, saba terriyaki, with tempura. It comes with soup, salad, and rice. Their prices and quality of food is unbeatable compared to many sushi restaurant I tried. The service I agree is a little slow on the weekends, the tables are always packed. Sometimes, the nice waitresses give free ice cream to little kids but not the waiter. Don't know why..
