Got food poisoning from here last week. Was waiting for confirmation from my doctor before I wrote a review because I don't want to tarnish a restaurant, especially one i've been to a decent amount. - This place has reasonable prices, but the portions are very small. so you end up spending just as much as higher quality restaurants to get full. - Inconsistent freshness of their food, even before my incident. - Everywhere online says they close at 2:30pm. But if you order at 2:01pm they will literally call your phone and say sorry we won't make your food, no matter how simple the order is. - Stay away from the chicken teriyaki, it is extremely poor quality. I'm pretty sure this was what got me sick rather than the fish Last week was definitely my final visit. Not only because of food poisoning, but for the subpar service I got. I was ignored while waiting for my to go order and my food got very cold. They made half my order (the hot portion), and stopped making the rest when I arrived at the restaurant. They proceeded to help other customers--even those who came in after me. Half my food just sat there getting cold for ~45 mins+ while I'm waiting for them to make 2 simple makimono rolls. And my salmon roll ended up having bones in it. I'm disappointed cuz this place is conveniently located and had been goin here for a while, but I'll never step foot again after the horrible week of stomach pain, fever, chills, gross things, etc I just endured. read more

This place makes miso happy!! Affordable & consistent food! I come here almost every week because I live less than 5 minutes away. I always get the Happy Dinner Box (pick 3 items, comes with miso soup and salad) for $8.99. Go to other sushi places and you'll see how cheap Sushi House is. My go-to rolls are the House Special roll, Caterpillar roll, & Spider roll! The only reason why I didn't give them 5 stars was because the wait can get really long, they don't answer the phone when they get busy, and they sometimes don't estimate properly regarding the wait time for picking up food. I suggest to come to Sushi House on any day except for Friday and Saturday. Fridays and Saturdays are usually when there's a rush. Their hours are also weird so be sure to check it's open before you go. But overall, cheap & yummy food. This place always makes my sushi-loving-tummy soy happy! read more

I have been a regular here for a good 10 years and the restaurant seems to have changed ownership during the years but the customer service and food here is always 5 star. After taking a stroll on San Mateo ave my wife and I where searching for a bite to eat. We then notice this place. Walked in with plenty room to sit. Had a waitress bring out menu with miso soup right away along with water. Miso soup wasn't bad little on the colder side tho. I ordered the bento box D. Came with teriyaki beef & chicken and 4 Calofornia rolls. This was actually really good. I also ordered a kamikaze roll. Spicy tuna and asparagus. Which was great. Only thing I would say is the feel of the restaurant was a little depressing and the bathroom were dirty. read more

I got the salmon teriyaki, tempura, and California rolls. This meal is definitely very filling and all for $11.25 with many options to choose from. If you are looking for a no frills place without the normal interminable wait for Japanese food while on the Peninsula or of you are by the SFO Airport then this is the place for you! This is nice restaurant. I came 20 mins before they closed after lunch time. They were very nice and immediately sat me down and was very attentive. When you come for lunch they give you a complimentary miso soup and it was good. I ordered a San Bruno roll and a dragon roll. The San Bruno roll was delicious and was very fresh and I think it's their best role. The dragon roll was okay. There was tempura shrimp in there but was cold and clearly was not freshly fried, probably because I came right when they were closing. The price for each roll was approx $10. Worst experience I have ever had! Imagine I get there at 1.to.meet a dear friend I haven't seen in years. We chat and order and chat and order. During our meal.she brings the check. We push it aside to keep eating..she comes right back demands payment and says they are closed! Wth? She just brought us a dragon roll! We say we are still.wating..she says you have to leave we are closed at 230! I look at my phone and it's 233. Now even Department stores give warnings the store is closing and to get ready to check.out. you would think a eating establishment would have same courtesy.. Have come twice when visiting my friend and her family. This is their go to place for sushi. It's not fancy but the service is friendly and the sushi decent. The bento box meals are good value and the overall price is affordable. We had a little of the ahi tuna, some salmon, California rolls, sashimi, miso soup. The tempura in the bento box was yummy - crispy and tasty. I was too busy eating to remember to take down the names of the rolls we had. Place was quite busy upon arrival, there was one table on reserved, we were told there is an open table in 12-15 mins, but if we want, we can have the bar. Craving for sushi at around 8pm and stumbled upon this area. Service was nice and quick. Sat down and was served hot rice tea and a bowl of miso soup. The miso was decent and not over salty. Ordered the salmon skin roll, dragon roll, and a crunchy california roll. Total came to about $20. The 3 sushi rolls took about 10 minutes to prepare. Dragon roll is always a good choice. They prepared it well, though the tempura could have been a bit more crunchier. The Crunchy Cali roll, not really to my liking. The batter they used is the flaky kind. I would have prefered the batter they used for the tempura. But that's just my preference talking. And lastly, the salmon skin roll. This was just ok.. It's probably something I will not order next time. I'm still trying to find a good place that serves a good salmon skin. All in all, this place is decent for sushi. I would not recommend ordering to go here. Their business is not setup to help multiple customers. Tried calling to order - line is busy or you get the fax machine sound. Went online to their website and was redirected to beyond menu to order. Spent 10 mins ordering for 5 people. Got confirmation from website. Drove there in 30 mins thinking we'd get a confirmation email or text. Nothing. Park out front and there's over 10 people scattered - no social distancing either. No order of management. Disarray. Customers don't know where to line up or what to do. Everyone is visibly frustrated. I finally get the employees attn and he comes to the door. I tell him I ordered thru beyond menu and he says "sorry were not taking orders from that site!" I have a confirmation code and everything. I show it to him. He asks for my phone number. I give it to him and he walks away. Comes back 8 minutes later (yep, I counted) and says we have not started your order. That really blew my mind. Now mind you, I ordered about 30 minutes prior and waited outside for another 25 minutes to learn my order was never even started! I have compassion for small business but not even a sorry from the employee. He does this crossing hand thing of death to me when he sees me outside waiting "we have not started your order!" I haven't been here In awhile, but I ordered for pickup during the stormiest days in the bay beginning of January, it was literally pouring outside. I usually park in the back and use the back door to enter. When I picked up the food the lady was so rude. She pointed at my food and yelled with a mean look on her face saying go out that way. As I stated I parked in the back she said no you go out that way..she had me walk around taking the alley and their was a big puddle blocking the pathway so I couldn't take the alley..Had me walk all the way around the block just to get to my car...I was soaked and my $60 worth of food was soaked and cold..never again read more

The sushi was delicious, we ordered the spider roll, the flower roll and the caterpillar roll. Ali was amazing! And you can't beat the price either. Good quality food too! Been here twice already and I will gladly come here again. Our old go to place for bentos used to be Akagi, but not anymore. We'll definitely come here over Akagi anyday! The food is good. Their sushi is good. And everything is very reasonably priced. The saba shioyaki, or grilled mackeral, is solid for the bento box. And their tempura is good and doesn't leave that oily heavy yucky feeling with you. I can't even remember what rolls we've had there anymore but we've tried quite a few and save for 1 of them, we were definitely satisfied. Ok, so I've had this bookmarked for months, possibly years, and I now realize I've been here before. It was just entirely forgettable. Two servers for three tables, but still slow. I ordered assorted sashimi. For $14, I got 3 pieces each of hamachi, salmon, tilapia and escolar. Well I good price for all that fish, but... Pieces were cut very thick. The salmon was fresh and tasty. Tilapia is not a good sushi/sashimi candidate, because it has virtually no flavor. That's why folks who normally don't like fish will eat it. ESCOLAR!!! Well, I think we all know about it's nasty consequences. The hamachi. Didn't taste entirely fresh. Maybe this was because the skin and the bloodline weren't trimmed off. When I was finally able to get the check,the server looked at my plate with the escolar still untouched and remnants of the half eaten hamachi, she didn't seem concerned, asked if I was finished. I have yet to find a good sushi place in San Bruno, so my expectations weren't very high. To my surprise, the sushi was decent. Food and prices are way better than Hiro down the street. Bento boxes are cheap for dinner ($8.99) and you get to pick 3 items. Food came out hot, which is a plus. The chicken teriyaki was good, beef teriyaki was very tough and the sashimi was ok. Grilled saba, tonkatsu, and tempura for one box and chicken teriyaki, beef teriyaki, and 4piece california roll for the other. The bento boxes were $8 each, so we thought may as well sample everything. Free miso soup served before we even placed our order! That was nice. I was pretty happy until the food came. The bento items were extremely dry. Especially the saba, chicken, and beef. I did not like the look or taste of the california roll, which did not taste fresh. The beef was dry...not enough teriyaki sauce. Everything tasted overcooked. I would not re-order the bento boxes, despite how cheap they were. The nigiri and sashimi were better. Sushi House is a great spot for a nicely balanced and filling bento box or a deliciously grilled hamachi kama! I've been coming to Sushi House for many years now and have gotten it to-go many times. I typically come here for dinner hours and the one thing I always get every single time is their bento box meal. It allows for a choice of 3 items and comes at a very affordable price of ~$11. Alongside the 3 items comes a house salad, miso soup, and a scoop of rice. With the bento, I always get their sashimi for sure which is fresh and comes on a small plate with four varieties of fish. Other than that, I find their squid shioyaki, saba shioyaki, and tempura to be good choices. Their chicken and beef teriyaki are not bad as well. Another item I remember trying here and enjoying quite a bit is their hamachi kama which is the collar area of a grilled yellowtail fish. I absolutely love love love hamachi kama everywhere I've tried it and I definitely love the way they prepare it here as well. It is grilled nicely and ends up teeming with a lot of natural fish oils which goes amazingly well with the bowl of rice they provide. They provide a decently sized piece with a good amount of both bone and meat which is nice. They also serve salmon kama which can't go wrong either. read more

One of my all time favorite sushi places. Great value for great food. You can't beat the happy dinner box for $10.95 that gives you your choice of any three items served with soup and salad. Items include sashimi, California roll, chicken teriyaki, beef teriyaki, salmon teriyaki or shioyaki, squid teriyaki or shioyaki, Saba teriyaki or shioyaki, chicken katsu, ton katsu, tempura, or beef short ribs. Complement any happy dinner box with a huge variety of rolls. You can't go wrong with the spider roll, but they all taste good. Enjoy a cold negori sake as an adult beverage to round things out. If you happen to come here for lunch instead of dinner, the happy lunch box is even cheaper, with the same options. read more

3.5 STARS They definitely hired a new chef! Used to be a less than average sushi restaurant with one star quality sushi that you would literally only eat here for their affordable bento boxes. But now, the sashimi quality has gotten better and is actually fresh and edible and the rolls are presentable and not falling apart. Although prices has increased a bit, it's still very affordable. Their bento boxes are the most worth it. For $8, you can get a lunch bento with 3 items, salad, soup. Dinner bento is ~$10. The saba is one of my favorite items. - The hotate nigiri (scallop) and the sake (salmon) nigiri are both pretty fresh and good - Beef sukiyaki ($9.95) is one of my favorites also but it's a bit on the sweeter side so ask for a side of rice. - Oyako Don ($7.95) was greatly portioned with an equal balance of chicken, onions, and egg. Service still needs some improvements tho. The waitresses (one in particular with a pony tail) was very forgetful and inattentive. After telling us to sit at a two seater table, she didn't bring us menus for a while until we told her and she even asked us how many... when we're seated at a 2 seater table.... The other waitress with shoulder length hair and glasses had better service. If you want to satisfy your sushi cravings without breaking your wallet, this is the place to go. read more
