Another 5 star visit. The sushi was fresh and the tea was hot. Quality sushi at great prices. Fast friendly service with a smile. One of the top sushi restaurants in the area.

Food was great and reasonable; had 3-item Bento Box and everything was delicious....service was outstanding! Refilled tea and water when asked. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We haven't been here in a while and it looks like the place has been updated.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]..prices have risen from the last time I was here but that goes for all the restaurants in the area. Good food, reasonable prices and great service.....we will be back!

This was my third 5-star experience with Sushi House, and my first time ordering takeout. The entire process was incredibly easy and smooth, from placing the order to picking it up. The rolls were amazing and tasted just as fresh as when I dine in at the restaurant. Sushi House continues to impress me with its quality, consistency, and excellent service every time.

This was my first time eating at this restaurant. My husband's last time was before 2018. The family, who owns the place, was very welcoming and extremely nice. The food was presented so beautifully. The seafood was very fresh. I will definitely come back and try new things. Definitely recommend. [[HIGHLIGHT]]If you're looking for a wholesome and place where you'll definitely feel at home.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Go try it.

We've been coming to Sushi House for 13+ years! This is a cute little spot located right on San Mateo Ave. Parking can sometimes be a challenge, though they do have a private lot in the back with an entrance directly from the lot. There is also a very narrow alley to the immediate left of the restaurant that takes you back to the parking area. *AMBIANCE* The place itself is pretty small, with only around a dozen tables and some seats at the sushi bar. There are a few TV's inside which sometimes will show sports. It's generally not too busy, but there are almost always people eating there. The atmosphere is great for both a casual meal, and a date night! *FOOD* One thing that sets Sushi House apart from other places, is the free Miso Soup they give you when you sit down. That's right, I said FREE! I'm a huge Miso fan, but don't always feel like paying $3-5 for a small bowl. The fish is fresh and delicious. My partner almost exclusively orders the 15pc Sashimi Combo, and has never been disappointed. They have a page full of Specialty rolls, as well as standard rolls and dishes. They do Bento Boxes, soups, and have a bunch of apps such as Chicken Karaage, Tempura, Gyoza, Oysters, Edamame, and more! There is a newer "secret" menu at the back with some different dishes than in the main menu. They have Garlic Edamame in addition to some fancier, different rolls. *DRINKS* Selection of standard sodas (Coke, Sprite), Ramune, Japanese Beer, Wine, and Sake. We usually do the Plum Wine; It's sweet, and for $6 they give you a healthy pour! *OVERALL* Definitely recommend coming to check out and support this local, family owned spot. One of the staff was telling us recently that her mom owns it, and her sister usually works there too but is away at College. They've done some remodeling and menu updating over the years, however, the quality has stayed consistent throughout. Thank you again for a delicious meal, we look forward to coming back again soon! I love coming here for lunch. I love getting the bento box they have a variety of boxes. The Katsu vegetables are amazing. The chicken is flavorsome i loved it. Please pay for parking or the city does issue tickets. Service is normally fast during lunch hours. The sushi is fresh. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Small quaint place but never had any issues with service or anything love this place[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I never thought I'd be giving a restaurant that has lower than 3.5 stars a chance and what is even more shocking is that I came away so impressed that I'm giving Sushi House 5 stars. The food, customer service, value, and cleanliness took me by surprise. When a restaurant has been open for a decade I'm sure there are some down points in their life, but I can at least say at this moment they are definitely better than how they used to be in my perspective. I was impressed with how clean the inside is too. Even the soy sauce bottles are wiped and spotless. Customer service is quite friendly too and this is a Chinese owned restaurant. Inflation is real when I see old reviews talk about the great deal the $8.99 Bentos are from a decade ago. Now the Happy Bento Box here costs $16.95 and I consider that a bargain in this day and age considering almost every Japanese restaurant is charging over $20 for their Bentos when some charge that price for only two options. I ordered the standard Chicken Teriyaki, Beef Teriyaki, and California Roll. It's as safe as it gets. The Beef Teriyaki is the only item that is extra charge being $2 more, but I have no complaints if it is good and surely enough it was a real tender piece of beef. Perfectly medium rare and not overcooked to medium like some psychos like it. The Chicken Teriyaki is also very tender. The Teriyaki sauce they use here is honestly pretty good too. Not overly sweet and doesn't take away from the savory flavors. The California Roll also tastes like a standard California Roll. Can't go wrong with that imitation crab goodness. The side salad let's pretend doesn't exist. The miso soup that comes with the bento was piping hot which was perfect. Had the right amount of seaweed and tofu. I also yoinked a tempura from someone else and it was really crispy and the batter wasn't too thick. I also stole a sashimi and it was surprisingly pretty fresh too. Definitely great options for the bento. Also any Japanese restaurant like this one that serves hot tea for free gets bonus points from me. Some places like to charge $2-$3 for some mediocre teabag teas and I just opt for water instead usually. I'd say the 2024 version of Sushi House is at least better than 3.3 stars and I'd be happy with coming back again.

    Lunch Bento A

Had a lunch Bento box. The good Teriyaki chicken was good Rice and salad ok The not so good Tempura batter was hard and thick Miso soup was watery and had no taste California rolls were nothing special, fair amount of filler Did not have any sushi or sashimi so can't comment on fish. Quantity was enough. May or may not be back to try other items

    406. Two Piece Sake Nigiri, 601. California Roll, Lamb Chops

[[HIGHLIGHT]]This family-owned sushi restaurant has such a warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel right at home.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] And when I'm in a rush, the to-go service is quick and efficient. The salmon nigiri was incredibly fresh and honestly some of the best fish I've ever had. I also tried the lamb chops, cooked perfectly medium rare, tender and full of flavor. The California Roll was just as good as always, simple and reliable. Overall, everything felt fresh, carefully made, and served with genuine care. I can't wait to come back!

The food is delicious, and the service is great!! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The environment is really clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I really love this place. Recommend you to come here!

If you plan on visiting during the weekend, expect a wait. The line can get pretty long, but after eating here multiple times, I can confidently say it is worth every minute. Some restaurants are all hype, but Curry Hyuga earns every bit of the praise it receives. The katsu is consistently excellent. Whether you order the chicken or the pork, the breading is always perfectly crisp while the meat stays incredibly juicy and tender. That level of consistency is something I really appreciate because every visit has been just as good as the last. The curry is what keeps me coming back. It is rich, comforting, and packed with layers of flavor. Every bite has a depth and complexity that makes it stand out from your typical Japanese curry. It is the kind of meal that leaves you thinking about it long after you have finished. One thing I also really enjoy is the atmosphere. The restaurant strikes a great balance between being lively and comfortable. There is enough energy in the room that it feels welcoming and full of life, but it is still quiet enough to have an easy conversation without having to raise your voice. I often find myself stopping in for a solo meal when I am in the area, and it is the perfect place to enjoy a peaceful lunch or dinner by myself. At the same time, it works just as well when I bring friends and family. It is one of those rare restaurants that feels right no matter who you are dining with. The staff has also been nothing but friendly and welcoming every time I have visited. Even when the restaurant is packed, they stay attentive and keep things moving with a smile. If you have been debating whether to wait in line, take this as your sign. Curry Hyuga earned its place among the Top 100 Restaurants in the country for a reason, and it continues to prove why with every visit. I will happily keep coming back.

My husband and I had dinner here tonight, and overall it was a really memorable experience. We've…read moretraveled quite a bit and tried sushi in many different cities, including around the Los Angeles area where we live and have our favorite spots. So when we visit a sushi restaurant, we tend to evaluate everything as a whole -- price, quality, service, and of course the flavors. For dinner we ordered the Mango Tuna Roll (which was our first time trying a mango-style sushi roll), the 8-piece Omakase Nigiri, a Double Toro Roll, two pieces of Otoro, and a hot sake. With a 20% tip included, the total for the two of us came to $163.50, which honestly falls within the average range of what we usually spend for a sushi dinner like this. Normally we might pay around $120-$130 depending on the place, sometimes a little more if we add an extra item or two. The portion sizes were pretty standard. Not unusually large, but not small either -- similar to what we've experienced at many other sushi restaurants. Where this place really stood out was the depth of flavor. The quality and balance of the ingredients were excellent. At one point I actually caught myself closing my eyes just to focus on the taste, which is something I almost never do. The preparation felt very refined and the flavors were elevated, rich, and memorable. I would describe it as delicate portions with very elevated flavors. Because of that, I'm giving this place 5 out of 5 stars. This is the kind of restaurant that works perfectly for a nice dinner with your partner. It's not necessarily a place where you go wild ordering everything on the menu like at a taco spot. Instead, it's better to be thoughtful with what you choose and enjoy a few well-crafted dishes. You can easily have a special, enjoyable dinner here without going overboard. Definitely worth visiting if you're in the area and want a quality sushi experience with refined flavors. The only thing I felt was missing was a small welcome miso soup. In some sushi restaurants we've visited, they serve a tiny cup of miso with a couple pieces of tofu as a warm welcome. It's a very small gesture, but it creates a nice first impression and adds a sense of hospitality to the experience. Considering the quality and pricing of the menu here, a simple welcome miso soup would fit perfectly with the overall dining experience.

They have regular specials which are often very good, a recurring special seems to be their uni and toro on a crispy base (yam if I remember correctly), which is always served with the seafood fresh and the base warm and crunchy! They also have great non-seafood options, I recently got the spicy lamb skewer, which was served warm, and seasoned and cooked to perfection. The restaurant is a pretty decent size, if you come early evening it's easy to get seated right away, but it gets pretty popular as the evening goes on!

Unfortunately, they were out of one of my longtime favorites, the baby lobster. This time I ordered the Santa Barbara uni, ama-ebi, baby bluefin toro, and kanpachi. The Santa Barbara uni is still the highlight, rich, creamy, and absolutely delicious. It's still one of the best I've had, although I did notice the portions have gotten smaller. As a regular who's been coming here for years, I was disappointed with the bluefin toro and kanpachi. The bluefin toro lacked the buttery texture I remember, while the kanpachi was missing its clean flavor and firm, delicate bite. Overall, the quality didn't feel as consistent as it used to. We also ordered a few rolls and a bento box, which were decent. Service was a bit slow, although they seemed busy, and the ambiance was fine.
