With so many breakfast places around, Sweet E's is just average. I had higher expectations from the reviews here and endorsements from a few friends. Even without any expectations, the food was average, service was average, the menu was very basic, and parking was nonexistent. Sweet E's is located on the corner of Kapahulu and Kaimuki Ave. It has a very small parking lot with only 10-12 stalls. When I got there, there were several cars waiting. After realizing waiting made zero sense, I continued down Kaimuki Ave I search for parking. I normally see those parking spaces constantly taken whenever I drive by. There were no spots, but I luckily seen someone drive out and made an immediate, tight, perhaps illegal u-turn. When we arrived inside, there was no one waiting, and also no one there to acknowledge us. We just seen a sign-in sheet, but it was JUST us, so I didn't find it necessary to jot down my name. Either there's no host position there, or the host was on break, but we just stood there listlessly waiting for one server to notice us while a number of them passed by back and forth between tables and the kitchen without ever looking to the front. It's a small place, and we're obviously in their periphery. Just tell us, "I'll be with you in a minute," or something to that effect. After finally sitting down at a table, we can finally decide what to eat. The menu is very basic. You have your omelettes, waffles, pancakes, French toast, benedicts, the one breakfast burrito, and etc. We ordered the Traditional Eggs Benedict and All American Omelette. One with fried rice and the other with herb roasted potatoes. The Egg's Benedict was okay. The eggs were too over easy as the yolk ran down close to as if they were raw. The hollandaise sauce was bland and lacked the sour note. The potatoes were not good. It was neither roasted not herby. No taste, no crisp whatsoever. The All American Omelette was decent. The egg and filling were a little on the bland side, so I had to get the ketchup, the pepper, and the Tabasco. Only the sausage had taste, but it naturally and artificially has taste anyways. The egg was over cooked to my liking. It was on the dry side and slightly tough. The fried rice was terrible. It looked and tasted like what you get at a grungy, dark bar where the only food option is fried. There wasn't much taste. The texture was strange with the mushy rice and super tiny bits of meat and egg and onion. It feels obvious to me that the fried rice was prepared long ago and just warmed in a giant rice cooker. Overall, I expected better. This was an unacceptable experience. Everything was so basic and average. Nothing was memorable. The service was subpar. Not friendly, not attentive, and their peripheral vision is terrible. There are so many better breakfast options nearby that Sweet E's just can't compare up to them. Sorry Sweet E's. We ordered spinach feta mushroom and one more customized omelet with tomatoes, green onion, peppers and onion with cheddar cheese. Both came out really good and we could taste the freshness of vegetables. We also ordered fruit bowl, which came with strawberry, blueberry, pineapple and half papaya. Brah!!! My wife and I just had the best quarantine brunch yet, seriously! So my wife and I have been wanting to come here for sometime now but it's always super packed. So we took advantage of this quarantine to check them out and give them a try and I'm glad we did. We ordered the banana stuffed French toast, extreme mess and the turkey pesto club. We called ahead and then wife went in to pay and they are kind enough to ask if we would like coffee or juice while we waited in our car as they would bring it out to us. Convenient location with plenty of street parking (or valet in their lot for $3), busy but no wait for 2 of us on a Saturday morning (11 am), smooth, delicious, fresh pot of coffee ($3 a cup, but refillable ... and we were even offered another cup to go), knowledgeable and friendly service (howzit, Nao!), lots of menu options with fresh food made to order with NO skimping on portion or flavor...if I had to take away a star, it would be on me as I can't believe it took us so long to try this place! After much debate, we ordered the extreme mess and kalua pig eggs Benedict and were not disappointed! I only wish I had brought my second stomach or wooden leg as I ate enough for it! Our total bill was $34 and worth every penny. We sat out on the lanai and enjoyed a leisurely meal, never once feeling rushed for our table. Located on the corner of Kapahulu Ave, near Leonards Bakery, this gem of a breakfast spot is worth the time to check out. The ambiance here is great, and it has that breakfast/brunch spot that you want and crave for! Did you know that this is a BYOB cafe? We over heard our waiter discussing that with our fellow neighbors, and my friend had a bottle of wine in her car, we popped the bottle in the cafe and they provided us with wine glasses! The place is pretty small but there are plenty of tables. Big families of 5 or more should definitely call ahead. Customer Service 5/5: Well, shoutout to the all-male waiter staff. I didn't see one female waitress which isn't the norm. There are no issues with it but it helps me realize some gender differences between how males serve and females serve. Of course, those are 100% generalizations so take it with a grain of salt. But as a gay man trust me I'm 100% satisfied with an all-male waiter staff attending to me. They work very well together. I didn't get a sense of any alpha male nonsense you typically see among men when we congregate in small spaces (I'm guilty of this as well). It was like they were one big family and the moment I walked in they were right there at the door asking me where I wanted to sit. (Again, small space so that would be a given). I think that this place is adorable. And the breakfasts are super cute. And the reputation clearly has spread because it was super busy on a weekend morning. Adorable pics of the owner's(?) kids all over the place were super cute. I also got the sense that the servers aren't particularly concerned with customer service because there's a line out the door and other customers waiting. We got semi-rude responses to asking if they had any soy or almond milk for the coffee (spoiler alert: no), asking for silverware when they forgot it, and when we asked for our checks. Lots of attitude; made me feel like I was back home in LA. Ahh!! The reviews don't lie!! This adorable quaint place is sooo delicious, and the servers are so friendly and laid back yet attentive. This is during COVID19 but they took precautions, such as temperature checks and plenty sanitizers, even on each table. The food was so comforting and delicious. Plenty on each plate, it's a great idea to share. My kids and I had the corned beef hash eggs Benedict, blueberry cream cheese French toast, and the buttermilk pancakes with fruit. Exceptional, efficient, energetic! All e-words aside, the service and vibe in this restaurant was genuine and welcoming. From the moment we entered and greeted immediately by a braddah with an impressively manicured mohawk to the moment we exited, everyone worked efficiently as a well oiled machine. The menu isn't overwhelming or bougie. There was enough to satisfy any palette. We didn't have to wait long for our food, it came out quickly, hot and plated beautifully. The flavors popped, portions were perfect and all of it exceeded expectations. Watching the crew work in harmony with hustle was impressive, constantly moving and cleaning. Loved it! The food here is amazing, the only trade-off is be ready to wait for at least 30 min when you come here. But, I suppose this makes sense since their food and benedicts are absolutely delicious! The parking can also be a little difficult, they have some parking in front but it's always occupied and there are street parking but don't forget to feed the parking meters. We usually get their Benedicts and that's our favorite, I'm also a big fan of their bacon it's always crispy and cooked to perfection. Hey ladies. We love brunch right? Take your gals to Sweet E's cafe one morning and tell me what you notice. Nice setting, even nicer (looking) male workers. You either park on the street near the sketchy park OR you battle it out with the valet that always seems to be full already. A tip? Unsure if this is cool but my friends and I tend to park in front of Safeway and then walk on over. I'm an eggs Benedict girl, so the Kalua pork eggs benny was a must for me. But that's not all!!
