Great fish tacos. Fish is always fresh. But they have something for everyone. My husband gets the vege burrito. Always packed but worth the wait. More Californian than Mexican with lots of veges on fish taco. Salmon taco is complemented with mango salsa, and is cooked to perfection. This was our 1st visit here. Every time we have stopped before they have been closed....? So after reading the yelp reviews and calling ahead to make sure they were open, we stopped for a quick lunch. Hubby always gets a burrito at Mexican restaurants and I was eying the Alaskan cod fish taco... Then we watched the waitress bring out 2 burritos to the table next to us. They were huge! So we decided to split one. Talk about a cheap and filling lunch! $8 for the shredded beef burrito that we split and we were both stuffed. The meat in the burrito was tender and flavorful. First time back in almost a year and it was good, but not as great as it used to be. They changed the recipe on the tacos and its good, just not Wow! Like before. Their scallop tacos have always been the signature dish for us and they were just 4/5 with the new recipe. Also had the calamari tacos, which are massive. Good, but i think the oil may have been old as they tasted a little off. As always, desserts are divine. They were out of carrot cake, so we tried the lemon cheesecake and it was very good. I've been coming here for 15 years and this was my first 4-star experience, so i still definitely recommend trying it! Best fish tacos in town! Very large portions and the desserts the best around! Jake has been our server several times and has always provided A+ service! Sometimes there is a line but it is well worth the wait! They usually have some special beers on tap and a help yourself salsa and chips bar! I highly recommend!!! read more

If you are looking for a great fish taco, this is your place! I had the seabass taco and it was amazing. My husband had the carne asada and he was disappointed. The chips and salsa were great. It was a little pricey but well worth it for the fish tacos. The only thing I didn't like was that it was cash only. Luckily I knew this ahead of time because I never carry cash on me. Taco Temple has wonderful, healthy Mexican food. Lots of veggies. The Carnitas are delicious. The Carrot Cake is one of the best I've ever eaten. These tacos are NO JOKE! Not only are they huge (TWSS) but they have some of the best cooked fish I've ever had. I usually roll with the Blackened Salmon tacos and never regret that decision. Go down the street if you want that. I suggest you do not get the simple burritos, etc.,go for the big taco, go for the glory! Get the 12- 18 dollar taco. Shrimp, fish, etc. Yes it is one taco. But its not a taco. They put two little tortillas down, some cheese, then pile wonderful salad stuff on top. Cabbage, shredded radish, letuce baby greens, carrots, mango salsa etc. then the hot seafood on top, with some brilliant delicious sauce. A giant plate of differnt tastes, quite gourmet. Culinary Masterpieces. Great chips and salsa. I am so happy when I go there. Better by far than the idiotic waterfront clip joints in the harbor. Olive Garden and Charthouse would decimate them if they were allowed to come in...lol The restaurant is small kinda divey..and I wish it were bigger with nicer decor, maybe thats why its so cool? We love this place the location is great with a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean. We love the Chili Rellenos and Guacamole Tacos al a cart a side of there beef which has the most consistent wonderful flavor, there crab cake was yummiest on the west coast. There desserts are super. If you go on Thursday after 3:00pm you can go to the farmers Market. There chips and salsas are very good and they are self serve, the only complaint I can give is there is to much salad on their food but its a minor thing so I give 5 stars all day. read more

Wow...i heard about this place from one of the locals in Moro bay about their desserts, especially the Mango cheesecake and awesome killer Carrot cake. I went there, after eating 2 clam chowders at the wharf, breakfast at Dorn's and having continental breakfast at the motel during the 3 hours prior to arriving at Taco temple. There's always room for dessert said one of my buddies even though i was stuff. Anyways, i ordered the mango cheesecake and carrot cake, omg, it's party in ur mouth so good, and so rich and moist. It's the best carrot cake i ever had and over the year's i had my share of great carrot cake. I do agree with all the reviews, that they only accept cash as payment. The four of us couldn't finish the carrot cake and cheesecake, so we took it to go. Next time i go back to Moro Bay i'll definately stop by there again! read more

On our first visit we had to order light because we did not know they took cash or check only. So with $14 in hand we ordered a fish taco and a chicken taco. I enjoyed the fish taco. It was huge! One taco filled an entire togo container. Couldn't beat it for $5.50. Tons of lettuce, cabbage, and tomato on top of a full filet of fish. The chicken taco on the other hand seemed like the meat was boiled. All the same topping, just greatly disappointed in the meat prep. We will be back again, with cash, to try the carnitas! read more

Maybe we're just spoiled because we come from San Diego, home of some of the United State's greatest Mexican food, but we thought we were in for a treat when we came to Taco Temple. People have written some good reviews so we thought we'd give it a try. I have to say we were pretty disappointed. The burritos ran us $9 a pop which is pretty expensive. I've paid that for Mexican food before but only when the food is gourmet, yet these were only mediocre burritos.The service was decent, but the ambience was nothing special. My best advice is to go during an odd hour, because they get extremely crowded during meal time. I think their desserts and free chips and salsa is what they do best. They make very good quality seafood too, but my main complaint is it's so damn expensive for the amount of fish you get. It just seems like a lot of food because they add a lot of salad, rice and beans. If I'm in the mood for a really tasty and good quality fish taco, and I can afford it, I go here. I got ordered their scallop taco the other day, which was $20, and asked if they can turn it into a burrito. They charged me $25 and honestly, the only difference was I got a large flour tortilla instead of two corn tortillas. People seem to love this place. I do not. The food is overpriced, and tends to be greasy. Portions are huge, but at that price, they should be. Environment is pretty tacky (again, for what you pay it should be nicer), and it is crowded and noisy. It is NOT traditional Mexican food in any way...so doesn't work for me at all. I have been eating here during my pregnancy, and Taco Temple has been a part of my baby's life during conception, incubation, and life. It was her first restaurant experience both as a newborn and as a toddler ordering off a menu. Needless to say, she's hooked, and Taco Temple has just gained another lifetime, loyal customer. I LOVE this place! If you want to enjoy a wonderful, healthy, reasonably-priced meal where you receive a TON of food, this is the place. The food is always very, very fresh. I order ONE taco and it is usually enough food for at least a second meal, if not a third. The prices are extremely reasonably, if not downright cheap. Some of my favorites are the carnitas (crispy), the potato-leek soup, and their homemade carrot cake. Taco Temple is iconic and usually very, very busy no matter the day or time so be prepared for a short wait. We have driven by the Taco Temple many times on our trips up the central coast. Decided to try it yesterday and were simply amazed at the quality and quantity of the food. It is easily reached off Hiway 1 on the north end of Morro Bay. The parking is plentiful and we found the place almost at capacity at 11:30 am on a Saturday. We were seated and directed to help ourselves to the chips and salsa bar. Delicious salsa from mild to wild. The emphasis in the menu was TACOS. You can order the basic--chicken, beef or pork but the specialties are on the daily special board and they are fish. The owner has many connections to the commercial fishermen at Morro Bay and what they catch is what he prepares. I tried a carnita taco and my wife had the beef. They came out shortly on plates that could barely hold them and they were large plates. They are served open face, so is that an enchilada--I don't know but the meat was a large portion and then it was covered with lettuce, spinach leaves and sliced cabbage. We could barely finish the meal. If you are a first time visitor, be sure you ask the waitress on what the portion size is. The burritos were the size of a small loaf of bread! The staff was so friendly-- from the waitress to the owner coming over to see how we were doing. We will venture into the many fish taco selections next trip. read more

Been coming here for almost any 20 years. Today was terrible. Ordered a carnitas burrito (my favorite) and The meat was dry like it been sitting out all day. Also ordered a veggie burrito and the tortilla was so dry that it was almost crispy. Ordered iced tea, which we never got, water was never refilled, waited for our bill and finally took it to the hostess to get change because our server was MIA. Typically the carnitas is flavorful and juicy and the service is great. We were embarrassed as we had hyped the place up to a friend and he was with us. :( VERY disappointing to say the least. Come on Taco Temple...if you keep this up I will have to quit wearing my TT sweatshirt and take the bumper sticker off my car! read more

It is true what an earlier review said... this is not authentic mexican food. This place is expensive and while the portions are big, they consist mostly of salad greens. We were not impressed, in fact very disappointed. Adding to the disappointment was the atmosphere. It had much to be desired; it was loud and close seating. Lots of toddlers making squeaky noises and dropping dishes. Just saying....it was not worth it for the price and lack of atmosphere. Servers were friendly though. read more
