This was my first time here and never knew there was a hidden gem serving Japanese food in the Folsom area. Tried the Chicken Yakisoba and the Baked Mussels with Scallops and it did not disappoint. Combined with the excellent customer service, I'll definitely be back. read more

Good sushi The sushi here is pretty good. I enjoyed the rolls I tried. Service was fair at best and a bit on the slow side. It didn't seem overly busy at the time I was there but the server seemed agitated and uninterested in our table. Maybe it was just a bad day? One of my favorite spots for sushi! The restaurant is always very clean, super friends staff and yummy food!

I picked up 3 rolls today and I regretted. The avocados in the rolls were literally black and it made the sushi taste bad. The roll was falling apart, it appeared as if they were made in a hurry. The ginger was also old. I get the lion king for my kids and it had a spicy sauce on top of the roll which in the past it wasn't spicy so they couldn't eat much of it. In search for sushi places in Folsom, Tokio name appears as 4 star restaurant. I love to try places with 4 and above stars. And the waitress was nice and kept asking how can she help us. She was on point. Around 5pm less people so it's nice to come here when it's not noisy. Food was good. I wish it had some sauce to give flavor. Besides that, the rolls were cheap and worth it. I loved that happy hour deal was $5 and it comes with free miso soup. Totally worth it. I would recommend this place to anyone. And do try fiji sushi roll. I think my favorite was rocky or catalina. I ordered Sake-don sashimi and unagi-don via delivery from this place tonight. The salmon sashimi was COOKED on top of regular HOT rice (instead of sushi rice). The unagi was also served with regular rice. This is unacceptable, and they should've rejected the orders if they knew they were out of sushi rice. Fortunately, postmates refunded me. We came in tonight and learned the restaurant was under new ownership and to celebrate everyone was playful and fun and generous with sake bombs and complimentary dishes. It was such a pleasure, and the food was incredible. The albacore was just insanely delicious and everything was fresh and beautifully presented. The staff are SO GREAT. There was talk of staying open later on weeknights and weekends which would be wonderful since there is a nice bar here and plenty of room to stay later. Horrible service. Ordered kani salad and they did not give me that. I even confirmed the ingredients over the phone before I ordered, and was told it had in it what koni salad does have. They gave me a ball of imitation and called it "kani salad". Then when I asked for actual koni salad they wanted to charge me an addition $10 on top of what I already paid. Making a small side $16?? I went there yesterday with 5 family members. The floors were disgustingly sticky upon walking into the restaurant. When we first got there and ordered, we were the only people in the restaurant. We all ordered very basic, individual rolls (one each) and one bento box. By the time we received our orders, there was another table of four who'd just entered. NO ONE in our group received what was ordered - NOT EVEN CLOSE. Exception: we did get our miso soup. However, the soup was lacking flavor (as though it was watered down). The rolls were very small in diameter and length, and lacked flavor. The prices equaled Mikuni's, but the quality and flavor was awful. They advertise a sushi bar, but it was not open and looked as though it is never open. We all left disappointed with the food, service, lack of efficiency, and lack of cleanliness. I made the mistake of using the bathroom before we left. That floor was even stickier, which I couldn't believe was possible and it smelled like the sewer was backed up. I believe the roll I chose was called a sunset roll or something like that and It tasted a bit off when I was eating it and a day later I acquired food poisoning and I've been suffering for two days straight and had to miss work because of it. Example of horrible service. I will try to keep this short. I truly was flabbergasted by how we were treated by this server who will remain anonymous. My mother is very allergic to shell fish and we let our server know before and while we were ordering our food. This lady then processed to give my mom sushi that has real crab in it . In the description for the bento box it never said that it would have real crab in it and even if it did she should have told us as we had said she was allergic and I don't think a shell is supposed to be inside of a sushi. This situation has truly scared me and my other sisters . The server was rude from beginning to end and just had a nasty attitude toward all of us. One of my sisters were struggling to order as she is not a very talkative person and this server really tried to rush her about ordering and keep in mind there isn't a lot of people. This is the worst experience I've ever had.. not only was the place not busy (maybe four other tables in there) we waited twenty minutes for our water before I walked up and had to ask for it.. they served us beer we didn't want or order, charged us for it.. forgot two of the people's orders completely,leaving all of us waiting there another hour for them to make three rolls, proceeded to just say they were going to take two beers off of the tab (one being the one we didn't even order) instead of the actual meal the took the extra hour.. Since the pandemic this restaurant has been going down hill. We had take out and we found the rice was hard, portions have been cut back, and the orange that was included in the meal was noticeably dry... like it had been sliced and sitting out. The teriyaki chicken from the good old days was nicely charred with a rich sauce. Not anymore, it is barely charred with a thin liquidity sauce. Over 2021, we have also experienced incomplete orders such as missing salads... never before that we needed to check our orders before leaving the parking lot. The older women hostess who seats you and serves your food has the personality of an avocado. She might be the owner... who would hire such a women to greet your customers. The Bento box and the service were both disappointing. I'll start with the review of the food. The salad was gross, and cheap Iceberg lettuce with ranch. Sashimi was thinly sliced. Was ok nothing amazing or even good. rice was plain something could have been sprinkled on it to give it some flavor. Miso wasn't great no seaweed or tofu. I also ordered the salmon handroll. Way better than the sushi in the Bento. Oh and the California roll sucked. It was something I could get in trader joes. The service was horrible. There were only 3 other people in the entire place and she didn't check on me once. I had to order the handroll from the chef. When she delivered the handroll she asked if I was done with the bento in a Kurt way. I said sure you can take it. Then she repeated ok, so you are done. Not sure what the deal was with the bad attitude. I had to find the hostess to bring me my check. For it being super dead inside there is no excuse for no one to be on the floor helping people. I will not be back and would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Taiko offers wonderful service with EXTREMELY good prices...a wonderful find for lunch. I'm a huge fan of Taiko's $6.95 daily special, which will either be a roll or bento box, soup, salad AND edamame. For the price it doesn't get much better than that. Even more importantly, I've never had a bad meal here. The bento boxes are definitely worth a taste, but I'm still partial to letting the sushi chefs go to town and create something truly unique. Worst service ever! Waited over 25 minutes for ONE to go roll! Went back to ask how much longer the wait would be and the whole staff was taking shots. Instead of apologizing for the wait/forgetting to make my order, they avoided me and a customer who overheard me asking about my order apologized for them! Called in for a pick up order wednesday 07/01/2015 and once I arrived they still didn't have my order ready.. It was only 4 small orders. It wasn't busy there was only about 5 tables reserved and yet one chef who decides to take his sweet time. They told me a 20 minute wait but I've been waiting for about 50 minutes and barely had time to eat for my lunch. I've never seen a chef that slow.. the order was sloppy, rice kept falling and plus it was super pricey. I could have gotten behind the bar and made my own sushi rolls quicker than that. Let's begin with service - when there are four empty bowls of miso, two bowls of eaten edamame, wrappers from chopsticks and other assorted used items IT'S TIME TO CLEAN OFF THE TABLE. Segue to food: cold BBQ albacore, grey hamachi (yuk) and overall uninspired sushi. I don't know what's changed there, personnel or what, but it's not been for the good. Taiko Sushi is located in a major strip mall in Broadstone. It was almost empty during lunchtime, which is a bad sign. Tried the Taiko Roll, it was good enough. The rolls come with a small Miso soup, with Tofu chunks. Prices are expensive for lunch, and portions are small. They are famous for their Bento boxes, would try that if I ever go back. read more

Tried a new sushi place and I wouldn't recommend at all. Not what I expected in Folsom honestly. The sushi rolls are dry and they don't use real crab in their rolls either. They use a mixture of imitation crab and mayonnaise and call it 'crab salad' and if you want to substitute it for real snow crab (which looks like cat food) it's an extra $2.50. They definitely need some sushi making lessons. They're rolls don't even stay together, every single piece unrolled immediately. Do not come here if you're looking for good sushi.
