    just a kick!
    Haley X.

Visited on 6/7/26 -- I've been to Tang Bar a couple times, my first visit was somewhere around in 2023 but I went recently a couple of times with friends these past months. Initially after my visit in 2023, I wasn't ever really interested in the idea of paying by weight just because I feel like you can find AYCE for a cheaper price than the bowl you come out with. I still somewhat feel the same way about this idea, but I will admit Tang Bar's broth is really delicious and the way they cook your toppings and noodles is done well. I recommend not coming if you're super hungry because the weight of your bowl may become your downfall. There's a lineup of meat, fishball, vegetables, tofu, mushrooms, and noodles, then a selection of drinks after that. Oftentimes I've been to Tang Bar, there's a line but usually it moves quickly and toppings are refilled often by the workers behind the counter. They have seating around, but it's honestly quite limited so it may require a bit of waiting but usually a table should open up after a party finishes their meal. Personally, my favorite toppings to get is the American Wagyu Beef Rolls, Pig Intestines, Fishball with Roe, Napa Cabbage, Enoki Mushrooms, and Udon Noodles. I usually fill up on proteins just because that's where I feel like the value really comes from. For broth, I like "Just a Kick" but beware, it is pretty spicy imo, but the flavor makes up for the spice. Despite the pay by weight, I do enjoy Tang Bar if I'm craving malatang around Stonestown! Makes for a great meal after Round1 DDR.

Another visit did not disappoint! Food: Very flavorful and noticeably spicier than before. I ordered the "Just a Kick," and this time I definitely felt the heat. Ambiance: Busy and lively. We came around 6 PM on a Friday night, so it was expected. Service: Average. Food came out in a reasonable time not too fast, not too slow. Overall: A solid experience again!

Um.... Maybe don't come hungry because the price of your bowl depends on it. I wasn't really trying to restrain myself and just got what would keep me content and my order costed about $30+ dollars for a weight of 1.75lbs. I selected the fresh fish broth and it was as white and creamy as expected although I still really enjoyed it. I know for a fact that I could have easily reached $50 if I wanted to be full full. I have never been to Tang Bar and decided to give it a try. I enjoy the concept of a build-your-own hotpot, but with my appetite, an AYCE hotpot restaurant is more worth it. It's a fun concept if you want variety and eats like a bird!

Came back here and feel that it was better this time. Got around 2 lbs of ingredients and got the spiciest dry flavor. Had more flavor than last time, although wish they made it a little spicier

Was denied by Kura and decided to check this place out instead. Been curious about this place for a while, I'm not back in SF often so I was glad we got a chance to try it. Amazing broth and selection for the items. Decent price for the amount of food and I would definitely recommend as this place is busy for a reason. Service was great, but I will say there is no one actively cleaning or picking up after someone leaves the table. It's a self clean situation, so you bring your bowls to the discard slot. To my surprise, it's all order before you seat and it's a fight to get a table. One minor issue, I wasn't sure where it came from but my brother found a dead fly in his bowl.

This is the place if you're hungry, with friends, alone, craving some warm soup or if you like to build your own meal. There are numerous of this type of restaurants in New York City, mostly Queens. And I was craving for the dry stir fry version. I saw this place while I was "holo holo" (Hawaiian for walking around), so I had to get some. I grabbed a bowl, filled up the bowl with mostly pork offal and innards (I love them), some mushrooms, egg noodle. Be careful, it's easy to get carried away if you hungry. My bowl of dry savory mix version with Szechuan sauce was $29.34 (not incl. tip) Not cheap but not expensive either. They weight your bowl, so be mindful not to go overboard. The ambiance is casual and you can sit wherever you want, just watch for your order number being called and you will need to pick it up at the counter. It's a good place for me to have lunch when I'm bored and in the mood to play with my food.

The food is quite good and a good deal. The spice is definitely there haha. All the ingredients seem to be pretty good quality. The main problem is there is no table space. I had to wait a while until a table with just two seats together opened. The line took a bit of time but not bad. I didn't know how to judge how much food was enough lol and got too much, but that's a me problem. The decor is very cool with a river in the middle of one table and many display shelves.

10000/10 just a kick is perfect for my boyfriend and I. We love spicy food though. I'm scared to try the spicier ones because this one is just perfect. Take the leftovers home! Service is quick since it's self serve. You weigh and pay at the end. It's usually full to sit anywhere as a family of 4 so we normally take it to the food court on the other side. They need more tables & chairs. Not their fault! Soooo good.

Very disappointing. I stopped by your store at around 4:30 PM on Sunday, June 14, 2026, and took my order home. However, when I opened it, I realized I had received someone else's order, even though the order label had my name on it. The items inside were not what I ordered, the flavors were wrong, and the meatballs I selected were missing. I paid for my order but ended up receiving someone else's food instead. Unfortunately, I couldn't eat it at all. This was very frustrating and disappointing.

A little expensive, but fun experience. Lots of variety from meats to veggies. Took about 20 minutes for us to get our bowls back and tables can be tricky to find. Total came out to be about $20-$25 per bowl

My favorite spot for malatang! I love the wide variety of ingredients you can choose from -- multiple different types and cuts of meat, fishballs with different fillings, leafy greens, and noodles made from different ingredients! The food is prepared quickly and comes out piping hot. There's a good amount of seating inside the restaurant and it is always comfortable and clean. They also have a sink available in case you need to wash your hands or clean up any spills/splashes. I love their hot & sour soup base, and I always adjust the spiciness down because, without adjustment, it comes with a good amount of chili. Got too excited and added too much to your bowl? No worries because they have take-out containers available! Bags are 25 cents.

First time trying. The ordering process is like an assembly line and pricing is based upon weight. As you arrive, you will pick up a bowl and gloves before making your way down an entire line of meat, seafood, veggies, and more. Once you pick out everything you wanna eat, you have the option to choose a soup or a dry stir fry and there's a selection of sauces ranging in heat. They will give you a receipt with a number on it and you just need to keep your eyes and ears out for when they call your number which will indicate when your food is ready. I opted for level one spice, which was like a sweet and spicy, with the spicy meaning into mala type spice. I also did a dry stirfry and overall the dish was really well cooked. I had a mixture of proteins like seafood and meat, and it was nice. That one was not more overcooked than the other. The heat level itself was pretty decent, especially because I do not do heat, but I was able to tolerate it. There is a water self-serve station, and when you're finished eating, you bus your own dishes to a shelf.

There wasn't a long line this time, so it was a good opportunity to eat here again. At the entrance, you grab gloves and a large bowl, then pick your own ingredients to be cooked. The malatang is priced at $16.99 per pound. There are two options: Ma La Tang (with broth) or Savory Mix (dry with sauce). There's a huge variety of ingredients--different cuts of beef, pork, lamb, seafood, fish balls, vegetables, noodles, tofu, and more. I chose the BYO Malatang (0.78 lb) with laksa broth. It wasn't too spicy, which I liked, but I wish there was more soup base. I picked lamb shoulder, wagyu beef, fried fish ball, bok choy, rice noodles, and golden noodles, and the total came to $14.39. The portion was just right for me, and I didn't have any leftovers. Overall, I would come back again because I like the laksa soup base and being able to choose my own proteins and vegetables.

Does Tang Bar use powders for their broth. I'm guessing they don't use real bones to make the broth ? Wish that Tang Bar did use real bones for their broth. Would eat there more often if real meat bones were used to make the broth.
